I am fairly certain that the majority of the black community is voting for Barack Obama. I have to wonder, if the color of his skin was white would he still receive the same support from the black community. I don't think so.
I think if Martin Luther King were alive today he would be proud yet disgusted, Dr King once said that "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." When someone votes for someone based on the color of their skin they are voting based on the same principles that Dr King oppsed.

Race has nothing to do with this campaign according to the majority of whites, however, the black community is making race the issue. I am an independent and I'm white. I would vote for Colin Powell if he ran or another black candidate of great integrity and CHARACTER. I don't see a man of conviction in Barack O'bama's political record. I think in order to be president you should lead and not be lead. I see positives and negatives with each president, no one is perfect, however, I fear for the safety of our great nation and beleive that the liberal politcal correctness of our policies could ultimately lend us in a perilous position and if there is one qualtiy necessary to be President it should not be based on the color of his or her skin.

If Barack Obama wins the black vote by overwhelming statistics. I think one statement could not be refuted, and that is that the present day racial prejudices are manifested by the black culture. So in my opinion, and this is only my opinion, however, I am sure others view this issue the same. A win for Obama is a prejudicial win for the non black community.

The public is making this all about race. Obama may be black on the outside, but I bet if you looked on the inside he'd look the same as McCain. The black community is voting strictly because he is black, not because of his political views. If he loses then they want to riot and protest?? I understand they want someone to represent them in the office, but my god, you have to look at the bigger picture. I personally don't care about the color of our president, so long as he does his job accordingly. I believe Obama is fit to run this country, but that isn't the main issue with everyone. They're focusing on his skin. I'd rather see Obama win the election as opposed to McCain. Everyone needs to shift from the ethnicity of the candidates to their political views. This has basically come down to black versus white. When will it ever end. And yes, I am a white male. I will never let the color of a man's skin determine my decisions.

It's no contest as far as I see it. Obama has little experience. McCain fought for this country as well as spent more time as a POW than Obama has been in congress. He's NOT African American but Bi-Racial. You don't hear about the rest of the nation gearing up to riot if McCain doesn't win. I think that African-Americans should get off their soap boxes and stop finding fault with every other race of people. We should unite as is our names, if you're born here, you are Americans. White and black are definately dying out. I think we should all be considered as Bi-Racial because there is no pureblood race anymore, learn to live together, forget the hate. I believe that it is so much easier to carry a grudge than to work at forgiving and just move on. Obama, in years to come, with more experience behind his belt will be a good candidate to win. He's just too young. His ideas are too simplistic for this complex time. He needs time to develope further.

White America give it rest. So what a black man wants to be president. I'm for it ! And I'm white ! This race issue had been played out for so long it like a bad record that wont shut up.

There are millions of Americans from every race creed and color doing every thing they can to change America for the better. I don't know about you but I'm a little sick and tired of watching people like George Bush run our country into the ground and walk away millionaires.

Mr McCain says one thing but does another. Says he doesn'ty follow Bush policy but he's using every trick from the Rove play book. Obama is not perfect he's human. You point to me one man walking on this planet that isn't flawed.

If Barack doesn't win because of shadey counting or a glitch in the system like there talking about all over Florida then I would say that there is some thing wrong. And people of all races should stand up and fight. But if McCain wins fair and sqaure then we will all have to find away to live with that fact.

It comes down to this who ever wins will be in a real pickle with how Bush left this country. If you want to be mad at some one blame the one who got us in this mess. George Bush ! He allowed CEO''s to walk away with 678.29 billion dollars before the bail out and now they will get even more. That 678.29 billion is almost the total cost of what he asked America to just flip the bill on.

White America should be pissed off about how Bush has ruined our country. Instead you want to pick on Barack Obama that hasn't even gotten into office yet. Wake up America, we are losing our rights our very lively hood worry about what is heppening right now. On Nov 4 vote for who ever you choose, let America be America.

I have voted for the losing president so many times that I think I must be in the minority of American Voters. Maybe so, but the last election showed me that it isn't just being a majority that wins (steals) elections. And we the people of the United States watched it happen and did nothing about it. Are we as passive as it seems? Americans seem to respond to scare tactics, and lies, without any shred of evidence whether it's fact or not. This election is headed the same way. I think that good sense tells us who the next president ought to be. All the flack about experience is just that, flack. We the American people ought to know that. These men who want to run the country put on their pants just the way any other man does. They are not much different than anyone else. How many of the rest of the United States population has the ability to lead America? Many of us would have serious doubts in anyones abilities. Experience comes in many forms and every person has their unique abilities; no two people being alike. Americans have, though, have become used to the ideal of getting "it all" for ourselves. We don't really care what happens to those who have less as long as we are OK. This is the numbing agent for our country. It's time to take care of this country, all of it, the good and the bad. I want a president who will give me a "new hope" for America. I am tired of watching our 'elected" government line the pockets of the few and lying to the rest of us. Regardless of the BS that the media presents, I am voting for Obama. He is a qualified as any of us. Better? Well how do we really know? But he is one of us. This is not the same America of WWII, Korea, Vietnam values. We need a leader how will inspire each American to take a role in leadership and not one that promises to tell us what's best or claim to be the good shepherd for the flock. So who's "gonna" do that? Fossils are records of that past. Let's build a better America.

How can anyone read this article and not be angry?
" People that I know that have never cared about politics are registering to vote this time: gang members, ex-cons, you name it,"
Yep, folks who don't care about politics are suddenly behind Obama - I'm sure it's based on their careful reading of his policy positions, not his race.
Just read the article - it's clear that the SINGLE reason most of those interviewed think he should be president is because he IS black (and so are they). This is Identity Politics, not smart policy-making.
I'm not saying Obama isn't a smart man, but it is clear that many of his supporters don't care if he is or isn't - he's the right color for them to vote.
"for him to come this far and lose will be just shady and a slap in black people's faces." I guess every other guy who's lost a Presidential election is a slap in the face of his supporters? Does this guy understand that there is always a loser in an election? "Getting this far" is what every losing candidate does - get over yourself.
Unlike the ignorant nurse who commented that whites won't "hand over the keys without a fight" (shows where her mind is on race-relations), I'm not afraid of a black man becoming President based on his merits - I'm afraid an incompetent man (of any race) will get there strictly because of his race.
We're supposed to be trying to get beyond race and encourage equality. It's clear how NOT beyond race the black community appears to be.

For anyone to assume that a vote for John McCain is stricly a vote against African Americans is ludicrous. There are many reasons to vote either way in this race. I could not care less that Mr. Obama is an African American. He does however, stand for everything I'm against. I'm pro life - he's not, I believe paying in excess of 50% of your income in taxes is enough and you shouldn't be taxed even higher (Hello - that does not make me unpatriotic - come on 50%??? enough is enough) He feels I should pay more. I believe if you've worked your tail off to supply a living to your family, you shouldn't be forced to support people who won't work. Now don't get all bent out of shape, I'm not talking about the occassional hand-up - we all need that, but multi-generational welfare families? If you believe the world is truly and international arena we need a president who has experience in that field. I believe when you've worked hard and saved for your retirement you shouldn't be penalized by the loss of your social security. Mr. Obama wants a means test and plans to take it away from those of us who haven't spent every dime even though we've paid into the program for 40+ years. So you see, whether you agree with what I believe or not, these issues have absolutely NOTHINGto do with Mr. Obama's race and everything to do with an absolute and total disagreement with his position on these issues.

I understand the opinion (SNA2008) that a person's life is what they make it, and aversion to any dependency on government assistance or support. However, on the other end of the spectrum are Republicans with their hands in their pockets who subsist very well, thank you, with the help of lobbyists, and who prefer to offer no breaks or support to the middle class and promote tax cuts only to the wealthy. There has to be some middle ground and I think Obama is the only candidate who has the potential to find it and rein in the excesses on both ends. He just happens to be biracial. He also just happens to have been the catalyst for more political involvement by the regular person than anyone since Kennedy. The catastrophes that sick of stupid are referring to have been generated, then accelerated, by the 8 years of white Republicans throwing their weight around to maintain their narrow focus and personal agendas. Meanwhile, bin Ladin is still active and Al Qaeda prospers while we can't even get out of a war we never should have started. Republicans' days are numbered.

You know people tend to forget that Obama not only black, he did have white mother and grandparents. We need to always vote for a President on what his values are and what he will do for whole country not by his skin or gender. People wake up know what you stand for so you know how to vote in this very important election.

Racism is only their if you want it there. I ,for one ,vote base on who I think will make a good leader. It seems to me that those who keep bringing up the issue of racism are those who want to keep this country divided. Who made Snoop Dogg spokes person for any group of people anyway? Maybe that is the problem some people are just listening to the wrong people. We need unity in this country, not division.

Who cares about my " feelings" in McCain looses. This is just more liberal whining. This is just a fear tactic as if saying " beware of the blacks if Obama looses!."

LET'S KNOCK THIS TYPE OF TALK OFF AND GET DOWN TO BUSINESS, ELECTING THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR THE PRESIDENT. I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF AS A BLACK AMERICAN. I WILL NOT DESTROYING ANYONE'S PROPERTY OR ATTEMPTING TO HURT ANYONE BECAUSE SENATOR OBAMA LOST. IT JUST DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. SOME BLACK AMERICANS MAY FEEL THAT WAY AND THERE ARE WHITES WHO FEEL THE SAME AND I SAY TO THEM...KEEP YOUR COOL AND LET THE PROCESS TAKE SHAPE. IT IS FREE COUNTRY SO VOTE AND BE RESPONSIBLE.

Also I would like to add that I think it's hilarious that based off of one article claiming Black people are going to riot that there are so many responses from White people assuming that this is true. Since you seem to think that all Black people think alike, I can tell you as a Black woman that I have no intention of rioting, picketing or protesting. So there, now do you feel better? Shouldn't my one opinion be enough since this one article that is desired to stir racist sentiments gave an opinion?
And while I'm at it, let me help you out on some other points. One commenter mentioned that Black people make up 30% of the population. Actually the correct number is 13%. Now once you subtract the amount who are not eligible to vote, i.e under 18 or convicted felons, let's say you have at the most 8%. So even if 100% of the eligible Black population voted, it would count for less than 10% of the overall vote.
Why is it a big surprise that Black people are voting for Obama, the DEMOCRATIC candidate? Throughout history, an overwhelming majority of Black people have voted Democrat. I've been voting for white men all my life as a Democrat so why do I have to justify my vote now because a person of my own race is running?
Finally to the "Hispanic" who mentioned that if Obama wins he will go back to his country. I think you should stop delaying the departure and go ahead and leave. I have been disgusted with the Republican regime that represents my country for years now but I am still an American and always will be an American. I am not always proud of my country's actions but I am always proud of my country.

Lotus...It just goes to show how many ignorant and uneducated people still exist in today's society. If we are to leave this country in the hands of this present administration there is no hope to educate these poor souls.
Sadly enough, many voters will only see as far as their party affiliation and are too afraid to step out of their comfort zone and throw in the martyr towel. They say they want change, yet in reality they are satisfied with sitting back and watching this country go to hell under the mis-guided, uneducated, unethical likes of Bush and McCain.
I will not give up the work I am doing to ensure Obama's win. As a matter of fact, this white, middle to low class, hard working, with a BA woman never worked so hard in her life to get someone elected and it feels good to have a candidate that is in touch with my class; whether black, white, green, or blue.
People need education. There is no budget other than the war's budget to educate our youth and I am seeking to change that...right here...right now! Obama 08*

I am a white, 54-year-old single working mother who lives in small town rural Ohio - and I am voting for Obama. I lived in Detroit for 12 years before moving back to my hometown 2 years ago - so I discarded racial stereotypes ages ago. What Obama lacks in experience, he more than makes up for in vision and sincerity - and our country needs to look to the future right now, not to the broken, failed past of the last 8 years. I've always been a Democrat, but this year I realized it is more important than ever for me to be public about my support for Obama. Residents of my lily-white community still harbor some fears about African-Americans dating back to the Civil War - and some are just plain old racists - but I believe most of them have enough good old rural common sense to know it is time to put race aside and vote in the best interest of their children's and grandchildren's future. I believe that my neighbors simply need "permission" from one of their own to show the courage necessary to vote for an African-American when you live in a rural area like this. And since I am fairly well-known around town, and most know I lived in Detroit for 12 years - I think I am in a unique position to say, Hey, I am one of you, but I also lived and worked with African-Americans for a long time, I know them, and I am totally okay with voting for Obama. I thought I'd be the only person in town with an Obama yard sign, but the other day I noticed that someone who lives on Main Street - which is actually heavily-trafficked US Route 20 - has put up a huge 6-foot hand painted Obama sign. And other Obama yard signs and bumper stickers are popping up. So please don't be naive enough to think that Obama's race is not playing a role in this election. Out here in rural America where few people have ever known an African-American and still harbor the old stereotypes - it is an issue. But hopefully there will be more whites like me who can reassure our neighbors that in Obama, we have a candidate who is not running as an African-American - but who is running as a rock solid American who will put the interests and needs of the rural and suburban middle-class ahead of the special interests that have brought our country to its knees.

This article is infuriating. Since everyone wants to talk about the race issue, let's talk about it in a fair light. Racism goes both ways and I think this article makes that very clear. When I moved down south after spending most of my life in the north, over a span of a few years I experienced more discrimination against myself as a white person than I had ever seen from whites towards blacks in my entire life. How come nobody talks about that? I've also seen more black people setting themselves apart than I've ever seen white people pushing them away. I???m talking about black colleges, black baseball leagues, black radio shows, and many other such examples. How come nobody is talking about that? My guess is that it???s because if a white person says anything even close to these lines than he/she is immediately labeled a racist, which I personally am not by the way. I am just trying to show the other side of the coin. I am also not naïve to the fact that there are racist people in this world, both black and white. It???s really so sad.

Now, about this article as it pertains to the presidential election???I am actually beginning to fear that if Obama is elected it will be BECAUSE of racism as opposed to his qualifications. That???s what this article leads me to think. The fact that riots and blame are being pre-planned in the event of his loss is ludicrous. Every person who believes strongly in a candidate who doesn???t end up winning feels disappointed and/or apprehensive no matter whom it is. I liked Obama a lot when I first saw him and heard him speak in the last elections. I thought, ???Why isn???t he running for President???? I was super excited for this election when I found out he would be. However, the more I learned of his views, the less suitable he became in light of my ideals and the direction I would like to see our country go. Nonetheless, I still like a lot of the things that he has to say and I will take those portions of his message to heart regardless of whether or not he wins. I think to incite angry riots would only dishonor Obama who seems to feel so strongly about bringing our country together, giving back, and taking a positive stand for the change that we want. The bottom line for me is that there is only one race I care about in this election and it???s the human race.

Why is it assumed that if he loses it is race?!?!? He should lose because he is a liberal and like all liberals be locked away where they can do know harm. At least terroists admit publicaly they hate us.

I agree Owned.....the black community wants to blame the white community, however there are alot, ALOT of whites supporting him. So maybe we "whities" aren't the ones who are racist. And tell me why is he "BLACK" now instead of being what he really is.....half black and half white? It is all BS. It seems the whites, asians, hispanics, etc. that are supporting him mean nothing to anyone, INCLUDING Obama and his spouse. Personally, IF I vote it will be for McCain....key word is "if", cause I don't like what either party is saying.
