Sometimes, in my wildest dreams, I think that being black has become just another negative - like McCain's age, or Kennedy's Catholicism. Then I read some of the comments here......

Look - Obama is the first black presidential candidate in American history. His race is going to be focused on to some extent and rightly so. The same thing would have happened to Hilary had she gotten the nod because she is a woman. The same thing did happen to Kennedy because he was Catholic.

The biggest fear I have is if the polls at election time show Barack with a 4 point lead and then he actually loses by 5 points.

"The biggest fear I have is if the polls at election time show Barack with a 4 point lead and then he actually loses by 5 points." Then I suggest that you don't accept the validity of the polls. Polls don't question a large enough or diverse enough population to be valid. If you only question people from New York, California and Florida, then it will appear as if Obama will win by a landslide. If you don't don't know the number and specific people being questioned then you can't rely on the findings.

Barack Obama is the most articulate, thoughtful, educated and capable candidate for the Presidency. He is our hope for the future - not just for Black Americans but for all Americans. He will change America for the good. If he does not win this election the American people will get what they deserve - more inept leadership and corruption. I am a white, 60 year old female and it just seems obvious who is the better person no matter what his race, religion or age. I, too, will feel enormously sad, let down and angry if Obama doesn't win.

I can understand the unsettling feeling in the African-American community. I felt the same way when John Kennedy, the first Catholic Presidential nominee, sought the Presidency. We were jubilant when he won, only to see our dreams shattered when he was assassinated. There are many whites who voted for Obama in the primaries and will continue to support him. However, if he does lose we'll do the same thing we've done in the past. Dust ourselves off and try again next time. African-American voters should mimic that. A successful democracy demands that.

Old de-regulator McCain never saw a regulation he liked and now wonders what caused the bail out or cash for trash as the foreign countries call it while of course the poor and soon much poorer tax payer picks up the tab.Didn't want to cut the poor CEO's wages oh my that would be the sin of the year but than again niether does old Honst Hank the scam man after all his cut was only a lousy 170 million for his last two years at Goldman Sake's.B

I have had my heart broken many times-- as far back as my first presidential vote, for Hubert H. Humphrey. It was our country's loss not to have his leadership, and I wept watching his funeral years later. I was sad when Carter lost, outraged when Gore's win was stolen, and tired to the core when Kerry did not win. I very much HOPE Barack Obama wins, I've done what I could to help that happen, and the last thing I think Obama would want to see would be rioting or some kind of embarrassing excess if our candidate does not prevail. I am voting for Obama because he is SMART, cool-headed, hard-working, and inspiring. He happens to be black, just like I happen to be white. I would be so, so proud if he becomes our president. (What a change it would be to feel that way!)

The writer uses the word "fear" in this article's title. Wonder where that came from. A plant from the Republican's maybe to try and incite panic and "fear" among the whites?. It never seems to amaze me that people think they know what African Americans will do. They know so little about us. If they had, they would have known the reality that there are many articulate, brilliant African Americans in this country and that the day would come when we would, as a race of people and with God's help, make that known. This has happened in the person of Mr. Obama. Mr. Obama represents the voice and face of the millions of African Americans whose accomplishments are never mentioned and overshadowed by negative media who want to keep negative images of our people before the world. WIth Mr. Obama, they never saw it coming. Guess what , people of color all over this country and all over the world are saying to white America, enough is enough!. We are not the low-life ignorant race you have tried to make us out to be. And I am proud to say that there are plenty of Barack Obamas in our race. You just don't know this because you don't know us.
On another note, you have it wrong again about our concerns about this presidential race. We are concerned about the economy, healthcare, crime, government corruption just like white America is. So if Barack does not win, our fear is that white Amreica would rather see this country go down the drain and let the Republicans continue to rob the people blind, than choose the best candidate offered to lead this country. Say what you will but whites are whining much louder that the African Americans are..

I am a white female and I am planning on voting for Obama and not because he's black but because I like what he has to say. The thought of McCain winning feels me, well I can't even find the words to describe the sick feeling I have at that thought. I believe that if Obama doesn't win it will be another four years of more of the same and for the first time in a long time I feel hope that our country have be healed. I don't have a problem with calling in an apprentice to do the job after all look what the so called journeyman has done for the last eight years.

Incredibly incendiary article. The posts reflect the reaction sought for such pathetic journalism.

Am I supposed to feel intimidated by Obama supporters that IF my vote is not right, then riots will result?

    Lose the soccer game-riot?
    Lose the football game-riot?

Is this the behavior expected from the secular Left, and the poorly educated students taught by the American Federation of Teachers?

One candidate, and I'll let you figure, is the product of the Woods Foundation, ACORN, and affirmative action. His coming out party was at the home of a known domestic terrorist annd his pathetic wife. His spouse was an affirmative action student at Princeton and Harvard ( where "Liberal" arts has a different meaning) and produced a senior thesis full of hate and rascism- and asked Princeton to freeze access until November 5, 2008.

Since none of the Saul Alinsky community programs interest me, much less endear me to socialism, I find one of the candidates lacking beliefs in my philosophical ancestry.

Besides, the first rioter that comes across my front lawn, either because his candidate won or lost, will meet a hellfire response that will assure the end of his family tree.

OH Whatever... Every Businessman is a "socialist" when he all of a sudden wants us to bail out his failing company. It's ok to make your money off the backs of America, but when it comes to taking care of it...
      "Let them fend for themselves."

how condescending and racist to say that there has never been a president that "actually cares about" blacks. lyndon johnson did a hell of a lot, dont try to tell me jimmy carter didnt care, history will show that bill clinton was the first black president.

"So this is how democracy dies..."

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

???St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

???What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

???This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson???s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

???Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.???

Polls have consistantly shown that whites are roughly equally devided between McCain and Obama

Polls consistantly demonstrate 95% of blacks support Obama

NOW TELL ME WHO THE RACISTS ARE !!!

Is the Label "Black Person" racially Biased? I E, is the Spirit/Soul inhabiting the body "Black", or just the skin tones?
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr. Does self segregating as "Black Person/People," is that actually fulfilling MLK's Dream???
Does a person with black skin tones born in Africa, or Great Britain, sound, think, believe and behave as an American "Black" person??? I E, Is an American "Black" person, racial, learned, a belief and behavior, or simply a natural person???
AGAIN: is the Spirit/Soul inhabiting the body "Black", or just the skin tones? If WE -SPIRIT are the person, and the body is our vehicle, do WE label our self as the color of our Vehicle??? (car, p.u.truck, motorcycle, etc) In pondering Spirituality deeply, I have discovered NO Evidence Spirits come in either Race, or Color...
If you ask most "Religious" People if they have a Spirit, or Soul they will reply, yes, they do... Meaning Organized Religion entrains people to believe they are a physical person who "has" a Spirit/Soul... Convince that person how they, the physical person, behaves in relationship to that Religion, will now decide what happens to their "Spirit/Soul," and you have a "Sheeple" who may be herded by speaking about Love, but controlling them with Fear... Like a sheep dog controls a whole flock of sheep through Fear...
Politician have very much, especially the Republicans, caught on to herding "Sheeple" using Fear... Fear "herding" has worked for Organized Religion for a long time... Certainly has been used by this Administration for 8 years, to take away Constitutional Freedom and manipulate the public... Is going on even as you read this with the Fear based Crisis Bailout of the Wealthy C E O's and Campaign Contributors... 8 years of Republican fear and Domination (with some assistance from Democrats) has been disastrous for our Nation...
Hillary was far more experienced/qualified the Obama IMHO... Yet Obama/ Biden is a welcome change, from more of the same...

Listen to you people -- voting for Obama and McCain: Do you really think people should be able to make decisions about other people's lives? Would you go into someone's house with a gun and force them to live the way YOU want them to? NO! Then why do you do it with your vote, using the police power of the government to do the same? This is supposed to be a Constiutional Republic (freedom), not a democracy (mob rule). Learn the founding ideals of this country and vote Libertarian!

  • Posted By: gideon2121 @ 09/28/2008 11:01:43 AM

It seems I'm a racist if I'm on the right and don't vote for Obama...truly sad. The problem is that he's a liberal, kind of, and many don't want liberals running the country. Have an african american running as a republican, Independent, or even a conservative democrat....and may 'white" on the right would back that person. Enough of the race card from all sides...

    • Posted By: springinmeadow @ 09/28/2008 12:31:02 PM

You are not a racist if you do not vote for Obama.
I do wish you might at least consider this.
mcCain has been quoted as saying he IS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH DECISIONS AND MAKES THEM AS FAST AS HE CAN TO GET THEM OVER WITH EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NOT ALWAYS THE BEST OR RIGHT DECISION. This is paraphrased I wish I had written it down immediately word for word. My son is an active republican you should have seen his face when he heard this he happened to have stopped in and the news was on, Oh my dear Lord we do not deal with problems by quickly searching for the first rememdy we can find because we feel uncomfortable with a problem. If McCain wins I will cry as I did when bush was re-elected, that is again, as I mentioned in another post if I am alive. Our govt is implementing a bailout which is going to make inflation soar. I may not have enough money to buy bread and sandwich meat, but if I am still here I will cry and then give it to God. As I did with Bush's "win."

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 11:22:54 AM

You are a racist. And many of us DO want liberals running this country. Just look at what conservatives have done to it in 8 short years!

    • Posted By: patri715 @ 09/28/2008 12:30:57 PM

It's funny you use the word "loot" The good ol' white boys of Corporate America looted us Americans for 700 billion dollars!! What about the good old whtie boys of Enron? We have our own share of looters, so I think you should really scrap that idea. White Woman for Obama/Biden 08

I am a black American with a set of ideals that were instilled in me by parents and grand-parents that all people are created equal no matter the color of one's skin, religion, sex, or creed. It is through these ideals that I have been successful in life's demanding challenges. Most important, GOD gave me wisdom to see through those things that would be an impediment to my success. So the real question is, when will as a peolpe stop seeing ourselves different because of sex, religion, creed or color? It is time for a change and if we cannot change on our own then circumstances with make us change. Sometimes those circumstances hard lessons for us a people to accept but over time we will.

  • Posted By: rogers606 @ 09/28/2008 12:30:42 PM

I feel that even if Obama is not elected President this has been a learning experience for me. I am a 37 year old black man and was never interested in politics, but the potential of having a black nominee, this has been great. You that this is huge for our race when you are in a room of 40 something fraternity brothers and you could hear a pen drop during the Presidential Debate.
And for the comment towards Snoop Doggy Dog, if he can get those gang members, ex-cons, and who ever else to vote, this is a wonderful thing. This may potentially give these individuals some self-worth, and if it doesn't, it will help elect a man like Barack Obama and he will certainly help all individuals change their outlook on life.

  • Posted By: CaliDoc @ 09/28/2008 12:30:39 PM

Oh give me a break. Wah! Why don't these self-pitying, victim-peddlers, just shut up and do what the rest of us do, and that's work hard and not pretend your being victimized to try to get more entitlements. Pathetic hypocrite losers.

  • Posted By: cml430 @ 09/28/2008 12:30:26 PM

FYI - I am a white woman, 44, married with two boys, a registered republican, and will be voting for Obama this year. Race has nothing to do with his qualifications and the sooner people learn to see beyond the color of his skin, the better. It seems to me that the Anglo population of this country is doing better wtih that than the the African-American population. If the race card is completely dropped and we base our opinions on a person's ability, morality, and work ethic, we'll reach a level playing field for all Americans much faster.
