I am a 56 year old white, female secondary school teacher in Ohio who has firmly supported Obama from the beginning. When I heard him speak at the Demoncratic in 2004 I knew he would someday be a great man and he is definitely on his way. I strongly believe he is the ONLY person to lead the United States during these troubled times with his calm manner that explores all aspects of the issues. He definitely utilizes the decision-making steps in his everyday life.

Barack Obama can and will win the Presidency because he is the right person for the job. I believe the majority of the citizens of the US are beyond the race issue. They will look beyond someone's exterior and look what is inside the person and I believe Barack Obama is a morally sound person, who has the quiet, calm fortitude to lead us during these troubled times. I am fearful what path McCain/Palin could lead us and the rest of the word down.

People who endorse McCain try to scare you into thinking that Obama will raise your taxes or force you into getting sub standard health care. Do you really think that the 700B bail out that was sent to GW isn't a tax? And who do you think is going to pay this? Lemme give you a clue, it's not going to be the rich, or the business owners, it's going to be anyone who works as an employee and pays taxes. It's time for the companies and the rich to pay the majority of the taxes for a change. let the executives that make 400 times what the average employee makes now be on the hook for the tax burden of the country.

Instead of worrying that he may lose, get out there and vote -- and get everyone you to know to vote -- travel to the next state to campaign if you have to, but vote, vote, vote!!! He's not going to win with people sitting at home watching tv and hoping. Every vote counts. Get out there and do whatever you can to help Obama win!!! It's not about black-and-white (I'm white) -- it's about doing your part to help affect the result. Our lives and futures depend on it...

As an African-Amernican male, I can assure you that I'm voting for Obama not just because of race, but because of the content of the man himself. America needs change. We've had a few hundred years of the "same ole, same ole". We've seen our grandparents and great grandparents suffer through enormous inequality and hatred, only because of their skin color. We've seen laws and tax codes passed to benefit the favored race and the wealthy, and not helping the ones who really need the help.

It's not a matter of voting for someone because of race, but rather someone whom we feel for the first time will consider our best interest as African-Americans. You have to remember, we weren't allowed to vote for a couple hundred years....so how does that feel when your vote or opinion doesn't count? That's why African Americans have never felt they mattered. With Obama, it allows more African-Americans than ever to feel empowered about their constitutional right. We can honestly look at our children and say, "yes, you can be the President of the United States", and actually mean it.

If Obama had inherited the country with a 7 trillion dollar surplus (like G.W. Bush did) and ran it into the ground to where we now have an 11 trillion dollar deficit (like G.W. Bush has), what would white America have said about him? His treatment would have been twice as bad as Bush. The overall sentiment would have been, "look at what happens when you give up the reins to a black man".

Well, Bush isn't African American, and he is at the core (center stage) of what has happened to our country. My overall point here is that it is time to "change", step outside the box, and give someone a chance that never would have had in the hundred years of the past. We don't need McBush for another 4 years.

You have to be kidding. This is reverse discrimination for people to vote just because Obama is black or to say you will be angry if he loses just because he is black. This is a time for everyone to choose a candidate based on their views, their records, and their platforms, NOT on their race. If whites said they will be angry if McCain loses to a black man, how would that make you feel?

  • Posted By: Freethinker0212 @ 09/28/2008 11:12:02 AM

If blacks riot after Obama loses, they will play into their violent stereotype. An Obama loss is no excuse for not voting...that's a childless response.

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 12:25:54 PM

I'm childless and I don't riot. But I do think it would be childish resonse.

I'm white, and I would love to see a black man get elected if he is qualified for the job. I've no doubt that Senator Obama would do a credible job as president, but I can't vote for him for one reason: he doesn't get it that abortion is an intrinsic evil that is pushing this nation down a moral decline. Human life becomes of less and less value; before long if you're over 65 and/or disabled you will feel it your duty to request euthanasia.
Senator Obama doesn't see that, much like slavery, abortion targets black people, that was the original purpose of Margaret Sanger's Planned Parenthood. His attitude is fair for a pro-choice person, he listens to the opposition, but I can't vote for someone who thinks it's regrettable but should be legal, to stick scissors into a baby's skull during birth and extract its brains.
Aren't many black people Christians? Why don't they see this?

    • Posted By: jmellio @ 09/28/2008 12:25:31 PM

Hey barbosav - tell me then, who exactly are you supporting in this presidential election? I mean, considering that you have made clear your beef with Obama. Curiously, the nominee on the Republican side voted in favor of expanding federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research. Gee - I wonder where those evasive embryonic stem cells come from. Maybe I'll google it...

Black people are smarter than to be duped by this street hustler. It doesn't matter about his color, we are all Americans. I think he's a very articulate speaker and has great potential, but what are his qualifications and experience? The change we'd get is "socialism" where everyone loses.

    • Posted By: working class hooligan @ 09/28/2008 12:25:27 PM

I would prefer "socialism" to the 21st century feudalism we're under now. If your corporate puppets keep getting elected it'll eventually lead to the toppling of this empire. Incompetent, corrupt ,arrogant leadership such we've been under for the last 8 years lead to conditions which allowed for the rise of tyrants such as Lenin, Hitler, and Napolean. If it wasn't for FDR's "socialist agenda" this toppling might have occurred 70 some odd years ago. If you "upper 1%" lords of the manor want to save your lilly white behinds you'd better vote for someone other than a republican. As long as the peasants have a roof over their heads and enough provisions for their families they won't revolt. A lot of the peasants' out there (they used to be called the middle class but that's a mere 20th century novelty nowadays, can't have that in the "globalized world economy") have worked hard, played by the rules, and done everything they've been told to do. Instead of gaining upwards social mobility in return for their obedience, and hard work, they are now facing outsourcing, foreclosure and ultimately starvation. In order for a representative democracy to function the people who work hard must be able to get their piece of the pie. Otherwise it's not a democracy. So, therefore, giving tax breaks and subsidies to corporations for the outsourcing of American jobs (something which you conservatives avidly support) isn't very conducive to a healthy, fully functional republic. Do you, as does your candidate, support the abolition of the minimum wage? While you're at it why don't we just abolish paying them at all. They can be paid with company script redeemable only at the company store.

don't forget that he's half white. Even if he wins he'll be only half a black man president. But, that's a start.

First it is necessary to clarify the reason this article was written, was it to address as Senator Obama would say, "the question is???... what will be the reaction of Barack Obama supporters in case of a loss? We would surmise the reaction will be to begin to prepare for another campaign in the next 4 years. However, I think to rehash the old arguments and relish in the fear mongering of negative arguments and thoughts goes against what this campaign has been about from the beginning. Have we forgotten the mantras which has gotten us this far? "Yes We Can". See this is about change and perseverance. Allow yourselves to continue to move ourselves forward in our destiny. These "what if's, and preparing for the worst and thinking about protesting, is contrary to the thinking the Obama???s expect from their supporter. It is hopeful the supporters are voting for Barack Obama because he is the best man for the job. African Americans were more skeptical than others in the beginning. He was thoroughly vetted by the African American community before he was supported by it. He won the support because he proved himself to be worthy of the support. Furthermore, the African American communities of supporters are intelligent enough to make a decision based on other factors besides race. I have listened to John McCain, I can recall a time when I would have supported the man. He has some recognizable stances on the issues. Look at the two candidates, look at their voting records, obviously Mr. McCain has a longer record he is older and has been around longer. What has he accomplished for the everyday American? Have you and I been his main objective throughout his career? I would say not. Mr. Obama on the other hand has worked for the everyday American, and it did not matter to him what the race of the "American??? was. Let's look back to the primaries although it appears the politics have changed because it is the election campaign the mission has not. Mr. Obama is continuing to speak the same message. ???Yes we can???... has progressed to ???yes we must???, maintain our positive thoughts; rule out fear, and divisiveness as the focus, Read the recent article by Dawn Teo of the Huffington Post , Michelle Obama in Phoenix: Fear is a Useless Emotion.

I think people need to do some research we have had a democratic congress the last four years and they are the ones not the republicanswho have gotten us into this mess, the president is only a figure head, congress is the real problem. The media needs to quit being bias, they are report the news not make it up. They need to expose some of Obamas deals also not just Palin. But as always the media is giving Palin free publisity lol.

I am one of the old, white independent voters that both parties are courting. I did not vote in a national election until 2000 when it was Bush / Gore and again in 2004. Both times I voted against Bush because of my deeply held beliefs regarding the separation of church and state. I also saw the smear tactics used by Bush and Rove against McCain during the 2000 Primary. At the time, I could not imagine Bush leading our great nation. I believe the last 8 years have vindicated my vote. Now we have a similar choice, but it involves an African American opposing a man who is going to continue many of the same failed policiesof Bush. We can't let this deterioration of our great nation to continue. I say to my aging white counterpart, it's time to vote for the younger generation and let them govern and decide their destiny. He's a black man, get over it. He's as bright and articulate as any person who has ever led this country.

Once again, here is a person who has not bothered to look at what change actually means and is voting party lines - some of you must read what Obama promises - we are up the creek worse than now. He wants to tax everything including inheritances - old folks think about that - you will pay 33% of your wealth to the state no matter where you live if Obama gets in - he just doesn't have the experience to lead and change is a handy but nondefinitive term that means nothing...........

        • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 12:24:35 PM

Lies, lies, and morel lies. John McCain is a liar and you with him. Under the Obama plan 95% of Americans will get a tax CUT. Only the richest 5% will see their taxes rise, and rightfully so. They've been living of the backs of the middle and lower classes long enough. I say tax the bastards at 80% and let them live like the rest of the country!

I'm afraid articles like this do little to improve the stereotype of the black male as a drug dealing, welfare collecting, gang member whose response to disappointment is to "Demonstrate". That word in itself has become a politically correct term meaning to riot and loot honest business establishments. The very fact that the voting block that the author is concerned about is made up of gang members and felons does little to raise anyone's hopes that the United States will ever make political choices based on sound consideration of the important issues. Rather, it underlines the fact that a large number of people will vote based on race, gender and a misguided sense that educated and intelligent leaders would reward a group based on those same factors without concern for their nations interests. Shameful , I can only hope it is inaccurate.

I'm sick of reading and hearing about the damn race card being dropped. It seems everything now days is racist this racist that. I can't wipe my own ass without being racist in some way. If Obama doesn't win its not about the color of his damn skin, its about his political views. Obama did good in the convention he just was not as strong as McCain was. Is that racist because McCain had better answers? man, get over your selves.

I am hopeful that Obama looses. I cannot believe the extreme bias the media has consistently shown toward Obama Bin Laden! If you want an Islamic extremist who's wife hates white people, then Obama is your Hollywood! Why would anyone vote for a presidential candidate who has tried to hide the fact that he has made millions of dollars shorting the US Financial stocks. What kind of leader would bet against his own country and profit from it's demise while running to be its president- I could only imagine that self-serving stunts he'd pull if he were ever voted into office!. It is disgusting, decietful and further exemplifies the DUPLICITY THAT IS BARRAK OBAMA! Plain and simple, Obama does not have any experience running anything! If you want bigger Federal Government and higher tasxes, then Obama is your shadow of a man! Obama is the Ultimate FEDZILLA FANTASY!

Sounds like a facist and racist. No wonder this country is in such dire straights. Hopefully, the majority will rise up and vote the best man in; Obama. We're crying for change and in delivering this country out of the mess these fat-cat bureaucrats have gotten us into.
      Change must reign!

        1)Obama is a Christian, NOT a Muslim
        2)That shouldn't matter anyway...seriously. This isn't 1600 Salem witch trials. Grow up.
3)...I just...don't know wherther to laugh or be sad for you. You would be laughed out of any *serious* political discussion by educated people-Rep. OR Dem.- with those view.

It scares me that people like you actually get to vote..

"If you want bigger Federal Government and higher tasxes, then Obama is your shadow of a man! " < You obviously are not educated to the candidates experiences, education, or how he stands on the issues. A little research would have saved face for you. I, and many other white, middle-aged, Americans, want McCain and Bush out of the scene. They are the criminals that brought this country down and Obama's record and history proves to be the ultimate choice. You must wake up and stop the ripping off of America!

I am a 52 year old whitw male who grew up in northern Florida and southern Alabama. I am sad to say that the majority of the people I grew up with were very racist and it did indeed color blind me only for a short while, luckly my mother was open minded enough to instill in us the fact that everyone is equal. Since then I hav lived in many parts of the country including Los Angeles for many years.
Coming from the south I can understand some of the hatred coming from a black community about the white male but I hav ealways hoped that in a couple of generations we could weed out both the ignorant white people and the hatred from the black community.
I once worked with several black collegues and I asked them one day what they would do if the wer involved in a race riot and they saw me on the street. To my surprise they said they would probably kill me or at the least hurt me.just because I was white and these were work friends of mine.
It is unfortunate that articles like this put the the FEAR of god in me because the ar litterale saying that they are putting "WHITEY on NOTICE that if they don't get what they want there will be hell to pay!!"
There is a lot of talk that PALIN will set the Womans Rights back if she is elected but what do you think MOB mentality will do if the OBAMA does not win?
I feel that it will set the struggle for Black people back another generation.
Please vote with your HEART and if your pick does not get in don't throw out the "BABY with the Bath Water!"
