Regarding racism and Obama's loss, Seems to me that it would fall back on the Democrats being the racists as no Rebulican would vote Democratic no matter what the skin color of the person.

Wild Bill, your logic doesn't seem all the great either. If you are gambling on a machine and put in thousands of dollars in quarters - and haven't won - should you keep gambling? Should you try a new machine? Or should you get a life and find something constructive to do with your time? If you are in a bad marriage, do you stay because you always have, because you have years invested in it (why leave now?), or do you do something to change how you are living? Experience at something doesn't count for everything - and a new, very educated voice that speaks for the PEOPLE instead of special interests sounds pretty good to me. I'm not black either...blonde hair and blue eyes...educated and as white as they come.

Having said that, I have to hope that Abella is right - no matter our color, we should be voting for the best choice, no matter THEIR color. Barack has my vote. And I will be every bit as upset as my fellow Americans - whatever color - if Barack loses. We all should be very afraid of what it will be like for MOST OF US if McCain and Palin take the office.

Just get out and vote!!!! It's digusting to me that one about 1/3 of Americans vote. Isn't that part of the "freedom" we wage wars for? VOTE!!!!

  • Posted By: ThePeoriaKid @ 09/28/2008 12:22:30 PM

Well, I don't know about you all, but this article makes me want to vote all the more. Barack Obama has shown nothing but pure class throughout this campaign. John McCain has shown nothing but ignorance and arrogance. Look who he picked as a running mate. NOT because she's qualified to run the office, but because he thinks she can help him win the election. If McCain wins, then what?? What if he kicks the bucket? Then we have the most unqualified person in the history of this country at the helm. Good judgement on McCain's part? What a farse. What a totally selfish bastard McCain is. Use your heads-don''t be discouraged by this article. Vote for the more qualified team. Barack Obama picked Joe Biden because, like Obama, Biden would be equally qualified to run this country should anything happen to him, God forbid.

I'm sick of reading and hearing about the damn race card being dropped. It seems everything now days is racist this racist that. I can't wipe my own ass without being racist in some way. If Obama doesn't win its not about the color of his damn skin, its about his political views. Obama did good in the convention he just was not as strong as McCain was. Is that racist because McCain had better answers? man, get over your selves.

I am a 52 year old whitw male who grew up in northern Florida and southern Alabama. I am sad to say that the majority of the people I grew up with were very racist and it did indeed color blind me only for a short while, luckly my mother was open minded enough to instill in us the fact that everyone is equal. Since then I hav lived in many parts of the country including Los Angeles for many years.
Coming from the south I can understand some of the hatred coming from a black community about the white male but I hav ealways hoped that in a couple of generations we could weed out both the ignorant white people and the hatred from the black community.
I once worked with several black collegues and I asked them one day what they would do if the wer involved in a race riot and they saw me on the street. To my surprise they said they would probably kill me or at the least hurt me.just because I was white and these were work friends of mine.
It is unfortunate that articles like this put the the FEAR of god in me because the ar litterale saying that they are putting "WHITEY on NOTICE that if they don't get what they want there will be hell to pay!!"
There is a lot of talk that PALIN will set the Womans Rights back if she is elected but what do you think MOB mentality will do if the OBAMA does not win?
I feel that it will set the struggle for Black people back another generation.
Please vote with your HEART and if your pick does not get in don't throw out the "BABY with the Bath Water!"

The media is fear mongering, the obscene front page they printed with Obama and ignoring the fact that Republicanism has created the 21st Century Depression. Its not conservatism or liberalism or abortion that brought this country to its knees its regular everyday ignorance and stupidity thats what we need to correct, wake up world its the fear of McCain winniing that what the World is afraid of - another invasion , which country is next on the axis of evil.

I'm voting for Barack Obama because of his politics. NOT because he is black. Voting for someone because of their race or gender IS NOT what a responsible citizen should do. Protesting because a black man didn't win the election would do nothing but harm the black community because the act would be like throwing a temper tantrum and whining that life isn't fair. The proper response would be to take all the lessons learned and the hope created by Obama, and focus on education in the black community... because you never know who could grow up to become president.

The only people I have EVER heard inject race into the election are African Americans who are voting for Obama SOLELY because of his race--not because of anything they have in common with him or any policy he has proposed. I live in the south, and I have never heard any white person discuss disliking Obama for any reasons other than because of his poor judgment, immature decision making, and overall inexperience. Either way, readers will respond to this comment by telling me I am ignorant and disconnected from society, and will probably say I am a racist as well. That's "change we can believe in," alright. In my opinion, just because a construction worker or a convicted criminal believe the country is prejudiced against an African American candidate does not necessarily mean the country is full of racists. But racism is certainly a convenient excuse for a poor presidential candidate losing--I will agree with that.

I've come to believe that most people who claim to be switching their vote are just making that up to support their statements. After all, what purpose is there for a Democrat to voice support for Obama or a Republican to voice support for McCain? It's a no brainer. One has to create the illusion that they were originally going to support the other candidate. People claiming to know staunch Republicans or Democrats who are now going to switch their vote is another favorite. It's more of a contest to see who can create the most believeable lies about the other. With all the smoke and mirrors going up, it's hard to see what the true abilities of each candidate.

Looking at American history, you will see many ethnic groups -- Irish, Italian, Chinese etc. were discriminated. But instead of self pity and crying about mistreatment, they taught their children hard working and law abiding. Because of this parental values, their children were able working out of poverty and gaining respect of others.

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 12:21:23 PM

Yeah, but none of those groups were held in slavery for over 200 years or subjected to another 100 years of Jim Crow. There's a difference.

News flash to Snoop Dogg. Most gang members and ex-cons are felons who lost their right to vote. News flash to the law abiding citizens. Does it not make you think "why would gang members and ex-cons be supporting Obama"?

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/28/2008 12:21:21 PM

Because they're still Americans and hope to have someone in office who might understand the kinds of problems they go through?

The thing I hate most about this country is the tendency of people like you to look always at where someone has been, never at where they're going. Someone screws up once, according to you, and they will forever.

According to that philosophy, what reason do they ever have to change? They could live their lives in perfect recognizance of the law for 40 years and someone like you would still treat them as if they were still a gang member.

    • Posted By: Lotus13 @ 09/28/2008 11:56:31 AM

Newsflash, Snoop Dogg does not and has not ever represented the voice of Black America. Just because one Black person out of many has an opinion does not mean every Black person shares that person's opinion. (Why is that so hard for people like you to understand or do you choose to ignore that basic, fundamental fact that only a non-educated ignorant person would not understand?)

Polls have consistantly demonstrated that whites are roughly equally devided between Mr McCain and Mr Obama

Polls consistantly demonstrate @ 90% of blacks support Mr Obama

NOW TELL ME WHO THE RACISTS ARE !!!

    now let the rationalizations begin...

Even readers who support Obama are offended by the incompetence of this writer. Does Newsweek have editors? Or is anything acceptable that promotes their candidate?

  • Posted By: jklipuma @ 09/28/2008 12:21:00 PM

Thank You for this story. I too am concerned IF Obama loses and all I can do is inspire every one I can to vote O8/12. This country is not only way overdue for a Black president but way way overdue for one who cares about people and REAL issues. We have had ENOUGH of criminals running this country. OBAMA/BIDEN

  • Posted By: Obama for President @ 09/28/2008 12:18:33 PM

Racism if he loses? People who think like that need to be properly educated. The race card is tattered, discolored and worthless. It no longer reacts with credibility and is now ridiculed. The quiet laughter in the background when someone screams "rascism" is more about chuckling over the persons ignorance rather than the argument itself.

Imagine a White American College Fund, or a group policy to Empower Whites, or even a doctrine that gives preferences to Whites over blacks! Whis is what exists today. The anger goes both ways. I want Obama to win but I cannot tolerate the race-card mentality of he loses. All who support that idea is themselves rascist.

Our 12 year old son is black. We adopted him when he was 4 years old. He too wants Obama to win. Not because he is black but because he offeres change and hope. If he chose him for the color of his skin it would be rascist.

Most blacks cannot define rascism becasue they were raised to not like whites simply over thier skin color....sound familiar? Educate your children. Love them for who they are and teach them to love others the same way. Anthing else is simply disgusting ignorance that resumes the hatred and the cycle of a divided people.
