A man's religious beliefs shape who he "is". Only after Rev. Wright's ranting and raving was splattered across the TV did Mr. Obama distance himself from Mr. Wright. The mere fact that Mr. Obama championed the beliefs espoused by Reverend Wright is enough for me to not vote for him.
It is based "not" on the color of his skin, but the sole of the man, that I vote against Mr. Obama and support Mr. McCain. The fact that Mr. Obama supported Rev. Wright's brand of Christian beliefs for so many years, is plenty reason enough for me to distance myself as far from he and his wife as possible... America would be wise to do the same.

You have no problem criticizing Obama's character because you believe he was influenced by the church and Rev. Wright. However, you love Sarah Palin's Kenyan minister's backwards, 14th Century practice of "laying hands on Sarah to protect her from witchcraft". Maybe we all need that "blessing" to keep Sarach out of the White House before she carries us back to the Inquisition.

But you approve Sarah Palin's brand of religion as shown by her visiting preacher from Kenya "laying hands on her to protect her from withcraft"! My God, how primitive and ignorant do you want the US to continue to be viewed in the civilized world? Or are you only trying to be more extreme than the Islamic fundamentalists?

I feel that Obama is to young and does not have enough experience to lead the this Nation at this time! I also think that McCain is to old to think about what the future will require!

I feel we should have a selection on the ballot that has a choice of none of the above and have a new election with different people on the ballot!

This I know will never hapen!

If you are voting for Obama because he is black, you are an idiot. If you voting for McCain because he is white, you are an idiot. My reading of comments and blogs lead me to believe that there are more idiots supporting Obama than idiots supporting McCain.

SO WHAT IF HE LOSES? THERE'S A LOSER EVERY 4 YEARS

    Prof-a-seer

You sound like one of those products of INBREEDING. I propose capital punishment for INBREEDING, it is the root cause of all of RACISM's evil. If you ever meet a racist SOB, think INBREEDING. INBREEDING has created an arrogant way of thinking that nobody else matters, nobody else has the right to exist, nobody else is smart enough to be president except a few INBRED neanderthals. When one views other races as inferior like HITLER did, there is every justification to nuke the entire notion that it is right to breed with your relatives and animals for it creates a generation of retards that can never look at the world from a different perspective except their own. America is the greatest country on EARTH, but when you have a group of neanderthals controlling other people's lives without due consideration of the CHANGING TIMES, science has to do something. Superiority complex arises when a group of people are offered the best life has to offer. They then oppress the other group of people who they deem inferior. Years of oppression fortunately do come to an end because of CHANGING TIMES, but the hurt and damage is already done . So when the oppressed rise a little to change the status QUO, the OPRESSOR feels threatened. Example, CLINTON backers who have refused to back OBAMA simply because he is not one of them. Yet what they forget is that, the CLINTON machine was so powerful partly because of overwhelming oppressed backing. Forgive the intellectuals BUT this would have been over if this candidate OBAMA was 100% white, simply because there is no other time in HISTORY where times simply JUST call for CHANGE, it just so happens the change is not what is it suppossed to be, it is NOT of the right texture and color. It amazes the intellectual community how so little has changed since the neanderthal roamed the earth to colonize it hence the birth of RACISM. Any smart person who watched the debate for example, would have noticed the ARROGANCE, TOTAL DISREGARD OF MIDDLE CLASS, the you dont understand CRAP, no mention of substance, just a mentality of the old western gun slinger with no real answers of how to fix the economy...only reasons of how to start another war with countries not deemed to be BRHAVING....I predict that the latter part of the 21st century would bring all AMERICANS to the the center right, BUT INBREEDING should be banned for this country to move forward; if it is allowed to continue unchecked, we will end up a 3rd world country. Can you IMAGINE IRAN's "Ahcmedickassjad" pointing the fingure at us and telling us to behave or else we will be cut off from the world community? Please do NOT let racism drag this country back to 20th century, WE all have to be on the same PAGE to move forward.

I'm a white man that is voting for Barack Obama. If Barack doesn't win it's not because of people I would say it would have to do with how each state counts the votes. Florida has been telling people that there is a glitch in the system state wide which could really put a damper on Barack.

But if Mr McCain wins fair and square this country still has to deal with that. Politics is an ugly business and any thing can happen.
But there is hope to look forward too. People are out in record numbers at each of his meetings. The Democratic convention was a big success. There are more republicans going to vote for Barack then people relize. Look at what happened at the DNC and what happened at the RNC how many showed up ? Then most of the audiance was just at odds with what Sarah Palin said about the voters and how they changed America threw a grassroots system.

But it does come down to this, who ever gets into the white house has the problem of having to clean up after 8 years of Bush. Either one will have a real pickle to throw.

Ignorance and fear dominate these discussions. I suspect that a lack of education and the consumption of mass media substitute for an authentic worldview here. I'm a white male - blue collar, middle class and southern. I'm also educated, at least to the extent that I've been able. I don't fear Obamas' name, his mixed race, (we're all mixed race, fools!), his superior intellect, or his admirable accomplishments. He represents the best of America to me. The editorial focus of this article frames his candidacy in the narrow window of race, and drags the entire discussion into the mud of ignorance, fear and hate. In actual numbers, I'm sure that there are far more ignorant, hateful, racist whites than there are ignorant hateful and racist blacks. Keep the national discourse focused on race, and Obama will lose. Mr Samuels understands this, and has done his job well.
One or two generations of well-educated people may be the only hope the world has left. Obama would be an inspiration to that end. READ.

Why does everyone see Obama as the black man with a hard life that he had to endure? I'd take his race anyday for a Havard education and a seat in the senate. Hard life my ass....

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 12:16:21 PM

Yeah, growing up on welfare and having your father abandon you at an early age, nothing hard about that.

  • Posted By: freda747 @ 09/28/2008 12:12:42 PM

NO ONE IS GOING TO RIOT IF OBAMA DOESN'T WIN! THAT IS CLEARLY WHATMANY ARE TRYING TO SUGGEST!
The folks who think otherwise are usually racist whites or sad, black , "street corner revolutionaries" who love talking about crazy uprisings that never happen.

  • Posted By: JPBroker @ 09/28/2008 11:42:11 AM

Why is this about RACE!!! You are being THEE RACIST if you vote for anyone simply because of his or her color.
How stupid is America getting !!! I won't vote for Obama because I don't agree with his views. NOT because he is 1/2 white. COME ON AMERICA !!! WAKE UP & GROW UP !!!

I'm with you J.P. We're in the 21st century and my grandpa (Archie Bunker) is resting in peace. Rise above prejudices and save this country! We must take back our government...The Constitution reads "WE THE PEOPLE" not "Me the people", as the present administration and Obama's opponent would like to believe.
We end up with McC and bumbling idiot Palin we're doomed to repeat the raping we've put up with for 7+ long years.
Get off your tushies and see to it that Obama wins for peace of mind and our country's future.

If Barack loses, there will be a lot more than just black folk who will be disappointed; as strong as his support is in the black community, I still believe that support is less than half of his projected votes. For all of his supporters, possible disappointment may not be the only thing we experience: A McCain/Palin win should leave at least half of this country scared as hell.

I'm embarrassed to have to say this from the outset, but I am a white person who believes that this magazine article is trying to sway the election. This article is clearly trying to disappoint ALL of us into NOT voting at all in November. I interpret this as "just give up hope now, so the sting of loss isn't so hurtful in November." What a CROCK!
Let's all prove them wrong, and get out there and vote! Obama is the leader of the future, and McCain is stuck in the past.

  • Posted By: hagstrom22 @ 09/28/2008 12:15:50 PM

Its not white people for McCain/Black people for Obama. Its gonna take support from both races to come out victorious over the Republican Regime. The article says "whites aren't going to hand over the keys to most important job in the land without a fight". That alienates the white people that support Obama.
Obama's intellect and eloquence is undeniable. Even the most podunk rednecks are blown away when they hear him speak.

  • Posted By: Tgroom @ 09/28/2008 12:15:46 PM

The issue should never be about race!! It should be about your values, what you stand for and which candidate is most likely to represent those. This article angers me. If the role were reversed and we wanted a white man in just b/c he were white we would would be racist. Why is there such a double standeard?!

  • Posted By: ChicagoResident123 @ 09/28/2008 12:15:34 PM

McCain is the only one with a feasible plan for energy independence. It's called Nuclear Energy. He gets my vote.

  • Posted By: Glades2 @ 09/28/2008 11:15:48 AM

I agree with lizdoll's comment - as a white conservative voter, I can tell you that I would have voted for Gen. Powell had he run, but, being the person he is, he was wise enough to stay out of the entire mess - I don't blame him...

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 12:15:11 PM

General Powell is pretty liberal. He's in favor of abortion rights and he now says he feels duped by the Bush administration into supporting the Iraq War. Are sure you still want to vote for him? Really? Because as a liberal I would have no qualms about it, but you identified yourself as a conservative. Strange.

I read your article... "What if Obama losses..?" Do you think american people are so stupid and gullible to be sold gthe Golden Bridge twice...
To any intelligent republican out there I want you to answer yourself this question.. "What the republican extremist in power did for this country in the last 8 years?
McCain is talking about change and he is telling you the truth.. Meaning.. he agrees that having the republicans in power brought this country to where it is at this moment.. Do you think if Bush/Cheney/Republican Congress would ave brought success to this country McCain would be saying that we need change?
The current deficit is: $ 9,855,662,000,000.00 The Outstanding Public Debt as of 28 Sep 2008 at 04:22:39 PM
and the estimated population of the United States is 304,810,905 so each citizen's share of this debt is $32,333.69.
The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $2.32 billion per day since September 28, 2007!
and this is as a result of almost 7 years of republican radical/greedy extremists. Soo.. you want lose your house and your job.. Go ahead.. elect another Bush with the name of McCain.

People should be proud of Obama's progress regardless of rather he wins or loses. But he is not gong to lose because he is black. He will lose because he is not good for America. We are not a socialist country but he is a socialist leader. Our country has taken a hard turn toward socialism under Bush and we need to put a stop to it.

  • Posted By: myopinion1 @ 09/28/2008 12:15:00 PM

If Obama loses it's only because he wasn't the strongest candidate the democrats could have run this time.
If Hillary was the top of the ticket and selected Obama as her VP- which she would have to unite the party and win, then the Dem's could have run the table for 16 years. Clinton would serve for 8 years and Obama would run after being VP. Obama is no Al Gore and would have surely won.
Timing is important. I hate hearing about all of this race stuff when democratic candidates black or white lose almost every time. When will we learn.
AA's rioting would hurt their cause tremendously.

according to sylvia brown (paychic) the next president will be assinated, so mabe Obama does not win God has other plans for him. I am one of the undecided and race has nothing to do with it.
Senator Obama is not 100% black nor is he 100% white. If God does not see color why should we. We in todays time was not around when there were slaves and neither the black or whites can help what was done during that time. I do not understand all this racism we are all Gods people.
