I truly believe that Senator Barack Obama will. win. He will win the popular vote as well as the electorial college vote. He is a novice politician, with vision, vigor and intelligence. On the other hand, Senator John McCain, is out of touch, eratic, and not visionary. Mr MCCain is not a true Republican. His original choice of Leberman for VP deonstrates his hatred for Republicans. Sarah Palin is a dangerous and extremely poor choice for a VP running mate.. McCain's health is questionable. The stress of the presidency would surely kill him in office, leaving Gov Palin to lead the world. Further a US President of color will only bolster our credibility with the world's nations mostly ruled by persons of color.

OKAY OKAY...this is 2008 and for a lot of white McCain supporters, it's hard to even think or fathom a black man to be your president. Welcome to the world of a black person. We have lived at the minority, in the shadows of whited since the beginning of time. What is harder is that a lot of people not just blacks know that from past experiences, people will do whatever it takes to win....even pretend to not attend the debate or choose a woman V.P. candidate that is pretty to the worlds eye. The white black issue will never go away even if we pretend. If white people would admit that there is some fear and that it would make them sick to have a black president then we can proceed and stop making comments like Ryan01976. So for your comments Ryan01976 on Riot, Protests, and Al Sharpton, Fair is fair and we all know that many leaders should not be in place if things were fair. Re think your comments and look at it from a black persons position (if you are not black) oh I'm sorry, us blacks have always looked at things from a white perspective because this country has made whites the superior and we are in your world,... well try being in ours.....IF you can without getting sick!!

I agree that it is unbelievable that African American people are going to vote for Obama based on his race alone. I am white, and I am voting for Obama because he is the best candidate. I think that the issue is not the race of the man to become president, it is the qualifications of the man to become president. Obama may not have had as much experience in the Senate as John McCain, but he also has a fresher view on how to fix the problems that we have and what Americans want from their country. I have been listening to both men speak, and I don't hear anything but negative remarks and non-discriptive solutions to problems from Senator McCain. He is riding this wave on the plain and simple fact that he was a POW. He did not DECIDE to become a POW, It was not in his hands, so that "experience" is, while very heroic, invalid. Obama is not only articulating the problems that our nation has under the Bush administration, but he is also telling the American people what he is going to DO about them. These are the kinds of issues that people should weigh in their quest to vote, rather than which candidate has the correct skin color.

People being disgruntled with the choice of the President is not a new phenomenon either, people. Voters are always mad when their vote didn't get picked by the rest of the nation. I will be mad if MY vote doesn't make it. But rioting is not the answer because, at that point, once the decision has been made, there is no going back. Be p***ed off all you want, but don't make it a race issue. Playing the race card is a cop out for people who want attention. If Obama wins, awesome! But if McCain wins, you have to put on your big-person pants and let your country deal with their decision the best they can--WITHOUT rioting and WITHOUT making race the reason for the events.

Obama has does not believe that our Lord Jesus is the ONLY WAY to eternal salvation, he tolerates the crime of abortion. He does not represent the majority of Black people and their fundamental Christian beliefs. You buy into all of the sound bites but you are not listening to what he is saying. There is nothing more important than maintaining your ability to worship as you please. Obama, along with the current congress will continue to move us to a more secular society whre our Christianity will continue to be denegrated and attacked.

John G - how about you recognize the constitutional separation of church and state and keep YOUR deity out of MY democracy? Unlike peanut butter and chocolate - they don't mix well...

By the way, I am a Christian who is happy that I have the opportunity to worship as I choose; however, I am also a reasonable person who realizes that what is right for me spiritually may not be right for others. They have the right to their beliefs, just as I have the right to mine.

I live in an affluent, predominantly white area. I believe my kid's school disctrict demographics demonstrate over 95% white. I have heard many discussions in many venues, from the soccer field to the gym to the wine bar. I am hearing the majority of people say we are in need of a change and their biggest concern is that Obama will raise their taxes; however, most are voting for him anyway as we understand this country needs an intellectual. Someone we can trust and someone who can lead us into a successful future with diplomacy, integrity and grit; who actually answers the question about how and if our taxes will be increased. Most of us believe this describes Senator Obama. I have never heard anyone state Obama was unqualified becuase of the color of his skin. This may be because people in my area are well educated - racism is an extremely ignorant thought process. My concern is not the "race card" as someone else here stated, it's that we will have a repeat of another president winning the election without the popular vote... I believe there were a lot of very angry Americans after the 2000 election fiasco; however, violence did not ensue. It's not fair to say that this will be the case because a black man is involved in the election.

So, in order to have the best man win, let's all get out there, encourage your friends and neighbors, volunteer your time, your vehicle to help others get to the polls and vote for the betterment of our country!!!!!

First the bias media deprive us of the best qualified and long time hard working candidate and capable leader; Hillary Clinton.
Now you are more or less endorsing riots if "your man" doesn´t win.

    My.....
One more reason to go McCain.

I???m white, I have worked hard (to get an education, to get work, to excel and compete) since I was twelve years of age. I???m not ignorant or lazy. I know what the very rich in the world are doing to become even richer. In fact, I know too much about what the Milton Freidmanites (MF) of the world are doing not just to us, but others around the globe. If the poor and the middle class truly understood what these people are doing to them, then they would be mad as hell. I can???t stand what the Republicans who subscribe to the Milton Freidman doctrines are doing to our country. Every time a Republican is in office it seems that we have more of the same huge spending on the industrial military complex, huge profits for oil companies, huge profits for pharmaceutical companies, banking or Wall Street corruption, and staggering amounts of debt heaped on the backs of the American people. The balance of power is tragically skewed in favor of the wealthy and large corporations. The average citizen is working 40 to 100 hours a week to make a living and save for retirement, a child???s college education, or a home while the very rich steal from them. I???m tired of being lied to by the rich and the political donor class. The fact that Obama wants to rebalance the use of our resources to benefit the average person in this country, and correct the imbalance of government power is why I will vote for him.

Yeah, because the Republicans bail out wall street on you back, it's not socialism...
Every businessman decries socialsim, until all of a sudden the become one in order to save thier business.
Man, the number of clueless people voting this year truly scares me...

All we have to do is get off of our butts and GO TO VOTE!!! Like the article says, "don't complaint if Obama does not win"... complaint if you didn't go to vote. All bottles down to voting!!! VOTE VOTE VOTE. I can see there is a huge amount of people in favor of Obama. He can potentialy win, let's go and show our support.

"How should they feel?" "How should they react?" Well, I would guess "they" would feel that the democratic system by which we are governed worked: that is, the majority of Americans did NOT vote for Obama. There's no other sinister thing implied in an Obama loss. It is not a given that he SHOULD be president! They should react like Americans react: No matter what the outcome, we accept our elected officials and move on. That's a mature, stable democracy. But thank you, NEWSWEEK, for beginning to subtly plant in the media some more dark response, or the necessity for it. We can always count on the media to attempt to swing the social agenda to what it choses. How did we react when Kerry did not win? How did we react when Bush Senior did not win? How, indeed, did we react when Kennedy won? We go on about the business of living in a free democracy, not one manipulated by blackmail.

I'm white, and I'm really embarrassed that I have to start my message out by stating that, but I must.
It truly sounds like Newsweek is trying to discourage people from voting in the first place by the tone of this article. I say, let's make this happen, folks, and prove this magazine WRONG!

I am a white. middle-aged, middle-income, mid-American, female Democrat. I will not understand if Senator Obama does not become our next President. He is the person I want to represent me and my country to the rest of the world. But, I have been disappointed before. I've lived with the shame of it for at least eight years. Don't give up. Don't retreat. Get involved at a local level (school boards, etc.). We've got a very good chance
this time. We must take back our country and heal.this time

This sounds like another commercial from the "WE can't live without Hussein liberal media".
Suppose you end up in the hospital with a serious heart problem that required open heart surgery. Would you choose a Surgeon in their first two weeks of residency or a Surgeon who had twenty five years experience doing open heart surgery???
Suppose you home had a serious electrical short that could cause a house fire that would leave your family well done. Would you trust an apprentice electrician who only knows how to change light fixtures to troubleshoot your house wiring system or a electrician with twenty five years experience.
In each scenario any rational person would take the person with the experience, so why on God's green earth would you want to turn over the country to an APPRENTICE.
Are we as a people suppose to elect someone who is half black, just so that blacks won't be disappointed?? That has to be some of the most illogical thinking in the history of mankind!!

To vote for Obama simply because he is black is just as bad as a white person voting for McCain simply because he is white. Both are wrong down to the core. You cannot acheive equality between all races when you vote on a candidate simply on race. That goes to the very basis of prejudice which is the root of racism. How can racism be obliterated when race is still a huge issue? You cannot move forward and look to the future when you are still looking in the past. The vote should go to the best person for the job, not the most likeable candidate. We're voting for a leader of our country, not GQ man of the year. Obama has very little experience as a politician. During his tenure in Illinois, he has yet to pass a single law or bill. NOt very productive to me contrary to his stance for making "CHANGE"! Change is a very powerful word during this brittle time for our country which is to the blame of Bush. HOwever, Obama is simply riding on the strength of the word "change" with no intention of making change. If he cant change Illinois, how can you change an entire country?

It amazes me that people just make the assumption that African Americans are voting for Barack Obama because he is African American. Most African Americans vote for the candidate from the Democratic Party. This voting pattern has been consistent throughout history because African Americans have most closely identified with the party???s ideas. In many instances, African Americans and white people have blindly voted for the Democratic candidates because of those ideas regardless if the candidate is black or white so it is understandable for them to vote for Barack Obama. The question that now stands is why white democrats say they will rather vote for John McCain whose ideas are in totally conflict with those of the Democratic Party. When thinking about voting for John McCain, Sarah Palin should give anyone pause. I know more about foreign policy than she does and I work in education.

For the person who said that Barack Obama did not pass one law in Illinois, it takes more than one person to pass a bill.

The first mistake is even thinking that Obama is African-American. His father was a Kenyan Muslim - once Islam takes hold any hint of the original culture, in this case African ,is destroyed. So his "African" roots are really that of an Arab. It might be interesting for Americans of African descent to ponder that slavery's roots began with Islam in Africa and that the major slave traders were in fact Muslims. So actually, Barack Hussein Obama is the descendent of slave traders in Africa and has no kinship with those who can trace their roots to the other end of slavery. And to echo other commenters, the blatant racism expressed by those quoted in this article is really frightening. For many it seems it is all about Obama's skin color while the fact that he has no executive experience and deep ties to Chicago machine politics and questionable alliances with the likes of Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and Louis Farrakhan to name a few.

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/28/2008 12:11:09 PM

Do you have anything to say about the blatant racism balancing out the equation on the conservative side of things?

Until the conservative movement polices itself and gets racists like Don Imus or Bill O' Reilly to stop saying demeaning things about blacks, and roots out the undercurrent of white supremacy that is barely hidden but quite alive in segments of American conservativism, it's going to be hard to listen to you much on this topic.

You might want to read up on your guy. His mother sent him to live with his grandparents when he was 10 while she continued to live in Indonesia. Obama was 34 when his mother died.

sirhc:..So you are saying we should vote for Obama because his mother died penniless?..Or because he has white g parents?...You grow the "f" up!..I dont care who his dad was or is..I dont care that he changed his name for the shock value to his class mates...Obamas policies suck, his experience in ANY arena is limited and he AND his wifes anti-American stance in the past and present is more than enough reason for me to vote McCain.

  • Posted By: lonniet1 @ 09/28/2008 12:11:04 PM

I am very sorry for all Americans during this election. This has turned into more of a three ring circus than a Presidential race. The ugly head of racism has definitely raised its head this time(not just against blacks, but against every race). I agree with all of those that see the truth about this election. It's not about choosing a canidate based on his race, afterall this country does consist of more than just black and white. We as Americans are the biggest melting pot there is, or at least that's what we've always claimed.
I don't believe in voting for a canidate based on his/her popularity, but on his/her credentials. These are the people that will be making life altering decisions for all of us for the next four years. I would advise everyone who is about to cast their ballot on Nov. 4th, to at least look at where each candidate stands on all of the issues. Then make your decision and cast an informative vote.
