Allison Samuels - when did you graduate from tabloid reporting? This article is pure and utter horsesh*t. He can't win because of white people. Explain how he made it out of Iowa and New Hampshire to even reach South Carolina. How many actual black folk voted in IA & NH? Typical white racist persons don't vote for him in those two states he's toast. It wasn't black folks who got and kept him in the race. What's the percentage of typical white presumably non-racist volunteers to black volunteers? What's the percentage of donations from typical white person racists "rich white ladies & rich white men" vs black? Explain how he won the nomination and 18 million votes? That's a whole lotta typical white person racists. Maybe even a few really bitter ones pressing that lever. And now he can't win in the general election because of typical white person racists.

It's the black vote that could PUT HIM IN THE WH if they choose to vote vs not-vote and whine and riot instead. How much does someone want a black man in the WH if they think baggy pants are a problem and can't change out of them for an hour? And why don't people already know if it's going to be a problem? If they had voted in the primary they would know for sure.

8 MILLION black folks eligible to vote have not registered. 8 MILLION. That's A THIRD of eligible black votes. 8 MILLION potential votes for the first black president in American history. 8 MILLION black voters are not registered to vote for him. What does that say? In the last three elections, the black vote has been 10-12%. In the last election, Kerry lost Ohio by around 130K. He wins that he's in the WH. And how many blacks who were eligible to vote voted in Ohio? 120 Million votes were cast in 2004 with a difference of 3 MILLION votes. Ad what about Gore? What percentage of the voting-eligible blacks actually voted? And of only 1% more had voted Gore would be in the WH. Gore & Kerry have to carry some of the burden of Bush because they couldn't get elected. Kerry the most. Now 8 MILLION people are out there holding the election in their own hands. They vote, Obama wins. Period.

Ms Samuels - why didn't you use the opportunity to educate? To tell people how they can vote - who they can call - websites to visit. How much are YOU doing personally? YOUR church? YOUR friends? How many people you know personally are volunteering for Obama? What have YOU done TODAY? What do YOU plan on doing to make sure Obama gets elected? Or do you prefer to fear, not vote and then cry racism? What till November 5th to cry foul. The numbers will reveal just how many of those 8 MILLION blacks wanted a black man as president.

Shouldnt it be considered racist that the black community refuses to acknowledge that Obama is half white? Let me get this str8, Obama has both the white gene from mom and the black gene from dad. And somehow this produced a black baby and not a bi-racial child? Someone else comes to mind when I hear this, Oh yeah, Tiger Woods.

I am very offended by the comment, "You think white people were just going to turn over the keys to the most important job in the land without a fight." I am a 29year old white American and I have been excited about Obama since I first heard about him. He represents hope and change, not just for the black community, but for all Americans. While I understand that there is justifiable suspicion about voter fraud, I don't think that it is fair to assume that white people are to blame. I am convinced that there was fraud in the last two elections and you know who lost...white men and America. Please don't blame "white people" for sins of a few. This is a very racist way to think.

Obama represents Hope and CHANGE and PROGRESS to the world. It's about we Americans electing a much smarter, better person and a stronger team than the ones we've managed to elect these last eight years. Our standing in the world has suffered dramatically due to our fixation with Bushes and the GOP.

Time to elect the smart, the proud, the respected -- OBAMA-BIDEN 2008 and 2012.

"You think white people were just going to turn over the keys to the most important job in the land without a fight?" -- Absolutley, emphatically, yes. Ms. Wright, please have a little more faith in us white folks, as many of us have a lot of faith in Barack Obama. What I see in Sen Obama is a driven, well-educated, capable man -- the fact that he is black is only icing on the cake. I say that it matters at all only because it is inspiring to see him overcome the odds. I wish I could say the same about Palin, but her selection only angers me. Not because of her positions on the issues; although I disagree with those one must recognize and acknowledge differences in opinion. It is because she is so ill-prepared for the position. All of the struggles for women to break through corporate and political barriers, and then ... Palin? As a white woman and ex-Hillary suppporter, I cannot wait to hand the keys over to Obama.

If the blacks are voting for him because of his race, that's pathetic. How pathetic that one wishes to have a person President of the US that associates with such racists (his Pastor) and police-killers (his close friend William Ayers & his wife), and lives with someone that did her thesis on, pretty much, hating white people (his wife). What a good leader that would make.... what is American thinking? But I guess that is all okay since he's black.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 10/01/2008 6:56:16 PM

Hey, at least Michelle did a thesis - that's much more than your namby-pampby Palin could even imagine doing, if she could even concentrate long enough.

Besides, you're wrong: Michelle's thesis had nothing to do with hating Whites - you're making up lies again, just like your heros in the GOP and the White House (Bushes).

If the dumb whites who don't like Blacks in this country aren't voting for Obama because he's half-Black, that's truly sad.

The entire world wants Obama to win. They respect him and they respect Biden, like they respected the Clintons and the Reagans and the Nixons (even)... but they don't respect an old guy whose claim to fame is being a POW in the Viet Nam war, who nominates a total numbskull for his VP. They are laughing at us dummies for electing BUSH Jr. TWIDE. Do you want to continue this farce?

  • Posted By: Love LA @ 10/01/2008 6:33:15 PM

Face it - any taxpayer voting for B. Hussein Obama is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders!

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 10/01/2008 6:49:53 PM

No, this is just exactly what voting for McCain will get you - next to no tax breaks unelss you earn TONS of money - the highest tax breaks go to the richest 400 people in the US under McCain's proposal.

Obama will give you a much bigger break if you earn less than a quarter million. DUH. I don't see any chickens there. I see smart economics.

  • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 10/01/2008 6:45:52 PM

Sarah Palin brings a shocking new low to the low-brow political race played by the GOP each election year. She's a champion of the moron simpletons who don't read, who don't listen to news of the world, and who only care about making babies and waving flags at churches that blatantly promote political views from the pulpits.

If Obama loses, God Forbid, the WHOLE WORLD will be disappointed in the USA.

It's not just about the African Americans here in the USA - it will be a sad day for the history of the world if we defeat Obama and put McCain-Palin in the White House. No doubt, the GOP will cheat for ballots during the election night, since that seems to be the ONLY way they can truly win. But if these crooks do prevail, we'll be facing another term of idiots ruling our country... LITERALLY.

It will be tragic for the entire world. Pray for the dummies in America to have a change of heart so they can do the right thing and elect the persons truly best qualified, educated and beloved to run the country.

As a white man who has a mixed race daughter who is the light of my life, I hope America can get past the racism on both sides as we must work together to get Obama elected and hopefully finaly start to overcome the problems of our society and the negative effects of racism as it is a reality that holds our great country back in the dark ages.

Our country was doing well until the Democrats won the majority in Congress. Look back at the numbers and see where it began to fail... that's when.

  • Posted By: Love LA @ 09/29/2008 8:38:52 PM

To begin with, blacks should not be voting for him because he is black. And B. Hussein Obama, after reading his biography, felt more like a Muslim than African American. The closer to his Democratic Nomination, the more African American he became. His close friend is William Ayers, a former Weatherman who was convicted of a car bomb on police, killing one, and less than a year ago took a photograph standing on the American Flag. No one should vote for him becaue he's black.

    • Posted By: GoBamainColorado @ 09/29/2008 9:40:15 PM

Absolutely correct! If we were voting race, then I'd have to vote McCain-Palin and that scares the hell out of me!!!

      • Posted By: Love LA @ 10/01/2008 5:42:56 PM

Well, then, I guess you're voting for him because of his race. How pathetic that one wishes to have a person President of the US that associates with such racists (his Pastor) and police-killer- (his close friend) and live with someone that did her thesis on, pretty much, hating white people (his wife). n a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide the largest morgage bank in the world,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms. Also, Fanny and Freddy Mae which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States.
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash and we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before.

McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.

Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He either didn't care or didn't realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime.
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a tanking economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 10/01/2008 5:40:45 PM

I don't know if you saw the latest polls, but Barack is starting to pull ahead in some swing states that he was either tied or losing. Why the gap of him not being further ahead, prejudice still is a factor, Hillary supporters are starting now to pull more towards him and some are still waiting for the VP debate, the economy has taken its toll on McCain, and finally, trust in Obama. Remember he is a newcomer to the national scene, which means high risk for some voters. I think that covers it for the most part.

I am a white female 48 and am hoping for a win with Oboma as well. This is my first time voting :( . I have been trying to get my sons and husband to vote as well, they would like to see Oboma win just like I would, but think their vote will not count. We need all the voters we can get for Oboma. Remember JFK won the election by popular vote, so can Oboma. Lets do our part I am sure Oboma can win too. I only hope they do not do what Bush did to the Florida voting system and have FOX news announce a mcsame win before the election is over.
GO OBOMA 08 Indiana is behind you too!

Obama supporters are sounding more like a cult than a political campaign. The language they are using here in Virginia is the language of evangelical Christianity ??? the Obama volunteers speak of 'coming to Obama' in the same way born-again Christians talk about 'coming to Jesus.'...So I say, we should all get a grip, stop all this unseemly mooning over Barack.
I see something just a wee bit creepy about the mass messianism I see in Obama's speeches and rallies.
"We are the ones we've been waiting for," Obama has said. That is not just maddeningly vague but also disingenuous: the campaign is entirely about Obama and his ability to inspire. Rather than focusing on any specific issue or cause ??? other than an amorphous desire for change ??? the message is becoming dangerously self-referential. The Obama campaign all too often is about how wonderful the Obama campaign is.
I find myself increasingly wary of and resistant to the salvational fervor of the Obama campaign, the idealistic zeal divorced from any particular policy or cause and chariot-driven by pure euphoria. I can picture a President Hillary or President McCain in the White House dealing with a recalcitrant political faction; I can't picture President Obama in the same role because his summons to history and call to hope seems to transcend legislative maneuvers and horse-trading; his charisma is on a more ethereal plane, and I don't look to politics for transcendence and self-certification.
I'm not saying there shouldn't be enthusiasm in politics. I'm merely touching on the fact that some Obama supporters' exuberance seems to be getting a little out of hand. Obama himself joked about this at a Hollywood fundraiser, as noted in Men's Vogue:
???When Morgan Freeman comes over to greet Obama, the senator begins bowing down both hands in worship. ???This guy was president before I was,??? says Obama, referring to Freeman's turn in Deep Impact and, clearly, getting a little ahead of his own bio. Next, a nod to Bruce Almighty: ???This guy was God before I was.??????

Phyllismleblanc , the point in raise is not with ethics but with the issue of style over substance. Senator Obama to me anyways doesn???t have enough of a track history to judge him from an ethical point of view. As for you asking me to name one ethnic president. How is this relevant? Why is this relevant? I would have issues with many of senator Obama???s positions no matter the color.
As for your question concerning about the question marks, it from doing my writing in MS Word and pasting in this blog. The conversion to the web Newsweek uses is very bad.

What if hew wins? We'll get universal health care, an end to the Iraqi war, values will have meaning, the world will respect us again, terrorist will have less leverage with ordinary people, etc. etc.

    • Posted By: JEM1024 @ 10/01/2008 1:43:22 PM

Who cares if the world respects us? I do not care and I am confused as to why anyone would care. We will always be looked to when there is need in another country. We are expected to step in and help today and apperently no one likes us. This is not high school and it is not a popularity contest. We are an integral part of the world economy either as lenders or borrowers and that will always remain.

So once again, it is a lame arguement to state the Barrack will make us popular again. Who cares...

In 1991, McCain railed against raising the FDIC insurance limit from $40,000 to its current $100,000 level. "The perversity of Federal deposit insurance is exemplified by the taxpayer bailout of the savings and loan industry," McCain said, while omitting his own role in the scandal that actually precipitated the S&L crisis.

"I think it is generally acknowledged that the failure of the savings and loan industry, to a large degree, can be directly attributed to the unwarranted expansion of deposit insurance,"... McCain continued.... "Basic coverage was increased from $40,000 to $100,000. No longer was deposit insurance for the small depositor. It became the safety blanket for large, sophisticated depositors and freewheeling bankers."

Now, as McCain echoes Barack Obama's call to raise the FDIC insurance level from $100,000 to $250,000, Black believes the idea that FDIC insurance rates ever caused the S&L crisis can finally be put to rest as being "complete bunk."

I'm not making this up. John McCain today urged the Bush Administration -- on more than one occasion -- to immediately and uniliterally spend $1 trillion buying up home mortgages.

I was watching live when he made the proposal this morning, and it seemed like such a staggeringly insane idea that I assumed he couldn't be serious. He couldn't think that Bush should just spend $1 trillion without asking Congress for permission...could he?

But then I saw his economic adviser try to back the idea up, and then I saw McCain make the proposal again during the NBC Nightly newscast. So he's serious. He really thinks that Bush should just spend $1 trillion without talking to Congress, without seeking approval, without building any sort of consensus -- without getting any protections whatsoever for TAXPAYERS.

This is the same John McCain who just a couple of days ago was railing on the $1 trillion price tag of the bailout (when it was actually $700 billion).

But just a few days after railing against the unbridled power of government, McCain now seems to envision the presidency as a DICTATORSHIP. He now thinks that Bush should just spend $1 trillion without allowing anyone to ask any questions -- and he supports doing it just one day after the House of Representatives voted down a $700 billion bailout.

This won't suprise anyone on the left. The question I have is this: when are conservatives going to wake up and realize that despite all his bluster about being a conservative, the Republican nominee for president has proposed the single largest expenditure in the history of this nation -- and that he's proposed that it be made without the approval of Congress?
