I am sorry race is such an issue in this. Can't we vote for who would be the best leader for the country without making it a racial issue. Don't vote for Obama because he's black, vote because you believe he will be good for
america! Don't vote for McCain because he isn't black. Vote for him because he has the experience and votong record that best aligns itself with your personal (not Racial) beliefs and opinions. Vote for the man, not his color!

BARACK OBAMA IS AN ELOQUENT TALENTED INDIVIDUAL. HE IS ALSO DANGEROUSLY INEXPERIENCED TO BE PRESIDENT. AFRICAN AMERICANS ARE BLINDED BY THEIR ANTICIPATION A BLACK MAN SHOULD BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE. THERE IS MUCH MORE AT STAKE RIGHT NOW THEN WHAT ONE RACE WANTS. IN THIS COUNTRY. I AGREE THE CHOICE IN CANDIDATES ARE SPARSE AND CONCERNING. HOWEVER OBAMA IS THE LEAST QUALIFIED AND AFRICAN AMERICANS SHOULD STOP THEIR CONSTANT COMPLAINING.

Black people are not the only ones who fear a Obama loss. There are many white folks like myself that
have great fear. We are no dough in times that need great change. If fear will lead us to change and motivate people to take control of their destiny and Vote Fear On. It is not just a Obama loss that scares me it is a possible Sarah Palan president that scares me too. This is the first time in history I remember a running mate
being protected from speaking except in very control enviorments and her answers do not reflect someone prepare to step in and be president. One last non political note, if you asked me who was the most powerful woman in the US I would have to say Oprah. Who would you say? The Black leaders are not the one who say we can't but "Yes we can."

We should all know and know there is a racism left not only in America but whole world. We also must realize racism is very sensitive issue and to publish article like this will open many old wounds. I hope this article remain as just an article not an seed to violence.

    Paul from Canada writes:
Rappers, gang members and ex-cons .... and potential rioting in the streets by angry blacks.. With an article like this, who needs Karl Rove? Then again, one never knows...

Every candidate has negatives. Sometimes, in my wildest dreams I hope that the disadvantages of being a black candidate have now subsided to the point that it has become just another negative - like John McCain's age.

If the actual poll results are pretty close to the final outcome I dont see a legitimate cause for complaint - though I can understand well enough why there probably would be. What bothers me more is if for example the polls show Barack ahead by 4 point, but he actually loses by 5.

Well, I don't know about you all, but this article makes me want to vote all the more. Barack Obama has shown nothing but pure class throughout this campaign. John McCain has shown nothing but ignorance and arrogance. Look who he picked as a running mate. NOT because she's qualified to run the office, but because he thinks she can help him win the election. If McCain wins, then what?? What if he kicks the bucket? Then we have the most unqualified person in the history of this country at the helm. Good judgement on McCain's part? What a farse. What a totally selfish bastard McCain is. Use your heads-don''t be discouraged by this article. Vote for the more qualified team. Barack Obama picked Joe Biden because, like Obama, Biden would be equally qualified to run this country should anything happen to him, God forbid.

    Period. What if McCain wins

This was truly an ignorant comment. Obama is wonderful because he picked Joe Biden who has the experience to lead if something happens to Obama...but McCain was pandering because of his choice of a female candidate...Personally I do not care for Sarah Palin...but to praise Obama WHO HAS NO EXPERIENCE and criticize McCains choice as VP because you feel she is unqualified is just stupid. At least McCain has the experience and he will be our President as opposed to Biden who will be in advisory role to a man who will Spend, spend, spend. This election should have nothing to do with race...and quite frankly, black, white, brown, red... I do not care the color of you skin...I care about the policies you want to enact and I am tired of the race card being thrown down everytime someone does not agree with the "plans" Obama has made....I am a woman and I would not of voted for Senator Clinton either...not all of us vote based on looks and charm...some of us vote based on experience and policy.

Obama/Biden is the ultimate HOPE. McCain/Palin the ultimate Great Depression.

"What should they feel?" "How should they react?" They should feel that the democratic system was employed in this election, and that the majority of Americans did NOT vote for him. Plain and simple. Nothing else in there, folks. But thank you, Newsweek, for beginning to pump up the media message that somehow there should be some anger here and demonstrations? I don't recall that reaction when Kerry lost. I don't recall that reaction when Bush Sr. lost. PLEASE. If you want to be treated equally, please act equally.

News flash to bayer14 - SOME ex-cons have lost their right to vote - only those convicted of felonies. Think about how many Washington insiders have had run-ins with the law recently - how ironic is it that those who were "in the know" about all the corruption and deceit in the nation's capitol are no longer able to participate in the electoral process. I applaud those who have prior convictions who have learned from their mistakes and turned their lives around to the point of having some concern and bond with society. That is the way the justice system is supposed to work.

Please explain scientifically how a person that has one black parent and one white parent is considered "black" and not "mixed race".

what do we want with a president that is high strung and unstable and don't know what day it is? That's what i see in john mccain he seem to be angry because he was a pow and we lost the war we didn't know what we was fighting for just like our troops are doing now.

I'd vote for a Black guy...as long as he was a Conservative. :)
Obama = Socialism and Socialism is slavery.
    Don't forget.

Please do not think all minorities think in this manner. As a hispanic, I am tired of my minority brethern always using the race card as an excuse for the plight in life. My parents, both who are life long liberal democrats instilled in our family responsibilty and accountability for anything you do in life. I'm not convinced that McCain will be the president I am looking for, but until Obama shows me just one specific, I will not vote for him just because he is a minority. All those that do are just plain ignorant. If nothing else, maybe it would be a good thing to have him as president so that all my minority bretheren can see that he will be just as lousy a president as any of the majority of "white" presidents weve have had in our history.

Sadly, we would not even be having this conversation if Obama were classified as white. If he were 100% white, the polls would show him leading by a landslide for a number of reasons. It was the slave owners who came up with the "one-drop" rule classifying Obama as black. As a black man, of course the African-American community will embrace him. Notice there was no rally behind Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton when they ran for president. The black community chose to rally behind a person that would appeal to the white communities as well. Nobody is saying Obama may be the first "bi-racial" president. They're saying he would be the first person with an ounce of black blood to win the election. After being considered less than equal for so long, why shouldn't the black community be proud of Obama and want to claim him for their own? On that note, Obama doesn't even want to BE the black president... he wants to be PRESIDENT... as EVERY man before him did.

As long as you are a United States Citizen, over the age of 18, have never been convicted of a felony (or if you have, you have had your voting rights restored) and you meet the residency requirements of the state you live it to be considered a resident of that state, you can vote. Period. Show up naked and you can vote. You may get arrested for indecent exposure and taken to jail, but dress, cornrolls, eyeglasses, shoes or barefeet are not things that can keep you from being eligible to vote.

So vote. And if you get to do it twice, think nothing of it.

Media bias? In Newsweek? No way! "Now that the race with John McCain is as tight as Sarah Palin's smile" How could this be considered biased? I have not made up my mind yet, but I'll be damned if threats of "protests and 'other stuff'" are going to intimidate me. Also, since ex-convicts are not allowed to vote I think it's ironic how people are saying if Obama loses it's shady, but if ex cons get their vote in, it's not shady. How come? "People that I know that have never cared about politics are registering to vote this time: gang members, ex-cons, you name it," says rapper Snoop Dogg. "I hate to see a lot of that hope go down the drain.." Personally, I don't give a flip what gang members and ex-cons want because my values aren't the same as theirs. If Obama doesn't win, as difficult for it might be to understand, it might just be because the MAJORITY didn't like his ideas and what he stands for... and if the minority was trying to stack the decks with illegal votes and STILL lost, it just goes to show how big the group of MAJORITY really was.

I am a white woman and the wisest choice anyone could make would be to vote Obama/Biden. McCain and Palin are not leaders but breeders of deception.
