So what if he loses, he will be no different than the other 44 MEN who ran for the presidency and lost! Why is it there must be this big conspiracy that if he loses it must be due to racism? That in itself seems like a racist thought or idea to me.

I cant say that i am suprised this has turned into a "race" race...sad but true, Obama could be an awful candidate but still get the African-American vote. I am still not sure who I will be voting for on election day, but I am getting all the information I can to make an informed decision based on platform and experience, not color. Whomever wins will have a big mountain to climb before he will be able to implement ANY of the "promises" he has made to the people of the United States. All I can say is continue to pray for our government because only God can help us from the trouble we have gotten ourselves into.
It saddens me that there is a portion of Americans that have been raised to believe white man has wronged them, and that every misfortune must be attributed to white man. It is not the white man whom has wronged their ancestors; it is the slave owner, the KKK, the man whom has believed them to be below human. I do not despise this portion of Americans that have believe white man has wronged them for their skin colour, I despise them for their ignorance. I am, in a sense, mentally handicapped and yet I do not declare a hate crime when I am called stupid, inferior, or wasteful; I do not resign myself to this opinion; I merely dismiss it as the ranting of those that are on the very same level they claim me to be on.
One should chose a candidate on their policies, not their skin colour. The Fathers and Framers of this nation did not intend election to be judged by background when they formed this nation; they intended it to be judged by the people's belief on whom would represent their ideals.
People are not on different level due to ability, not skin colour, and it is sullying the name of this system when there are those that decide on skin colour, and not ability.
Also, Newsweek, as Jay said, is making itself appear incredibly biased.
Blacks voting for Obama is no sadder than white women voting for McCain because Sarah Palin IS A (white) WOMAN! That is even more of a stretch! Add to that the white men backing Palin as VP becuase they think it will keep Obama out of the White House and you get a lot of "sad" people supporting candidates for reasons OTHER THAN THE CANDIDATES QUALIFICATIONS.
O.J. was found innocent of murder because he was Black. Obama will make a great pres. because he is black.
What is Obama loses? Then the American voters will have chosen the candidate that they believed is the BEST candidate to lead this country based on experience, an actual track record of congressional accomplishments, love of country, and military savvy! The call of "racist voters" will go out, will be writte about in our history books, and talked about as a sad time in American politics. But new ground already has been broken by knowing that Barack Obama made it to the Presidential Election, carried a not quite majority vote, and made it into the (future) history books. This feat laid the groundwork for future people of color -- with the BEST experience and qualifications -- to make it to the White House.
For anyone to vote for someone strictly on the basis of race, is just as bigoted as someone voting against someone just because of their race. Voting is important to ALL Americans, and people need to vote on the platforms people are standing for. Black people need to stop looking at the color of Obamas skin, and look at the issues. This man is going to put alot of people out of work, extend the war to Pakistan and Afghanistan, and try to re-institute the draft. Who do you think is going to get drafted?? Read his plan, it is posted on his web site, he keeps telling people he's got a plan, stop listening to what comes out of his mouth, because that changes on a daily basis. Read what his plans are for the future of this country. It is very scary. I have always voted for the Democrats, but I cannot vote for the Obama plan, he is leaning toward Socialism. This country is based on Capitalism.
It would be best for America if the people whose quotes you've included in your article and possibly yourself, did not vote. I'd have to say that your votes will lead America in the wrong direction. Obama is black...get over it. It's silly to me that the black community feels that this is owed to them. That if somehow, the black candidate fails to win that it will only because the "whites" held him back or retreated into a cloud of racial fear. The fact that he's held up so high for his color and the possibility of bringing that color into the White House is absurd. Perhaps people should start listening to what he has to say rather than promoting his appearance. Comments and statements like those included in this article are counter-productive to his candidancy.
It is amazing how low Newsweek will stoop to get Obama elected. They did a hatchet job on Hillary and they are working over McCain and Pallin. Funny how Biden is getting a free ride.
Actually I see it another way.
All of this irrational, childish, "you're racist if you don't vote for Obama" could have the opposite effect. Just as there are a lot of irrational black people, there are a number of irrational white people, and independants that could become angered by the racism showing among the black
population, and cast their votes to McCain. I have been hearing it from both sides of the coin and a lot of people are becoming very angry over the attitudes.
I keep hearing that Senator Obama has no experience and is an 'empty coat'. If I remember correctly G.W Bush was the Governor of Texas for 4-5 years and he will go down in history as one of the worst presidents in US history. Why is that when it comes to the president the only one's that are qualified are "ex-military..I got this on my father's tailcoat, white republican men. When as a Democrat you have to be the smartest or one of the smartest individual's in your party(all have been attorney's) Whom ever believes their isn't bias with Obama is fooling themselves. I use to support Mr. McCain until he took the low rode and picked S. Palin. Im 33 and I know more foreign policy than she does. When you are running as the Vice president of the 'free world' and all a leader of a foreign country can say about you is 'you are gorgeous' HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!! Im voting for Mr. Obama because I agree with him 90% of the time on his issues.
All of the people that bring up Mr. Obama's middle name...your ignorance is the reason that Black america feels the way that do!
Surely the fact that gang members and ex-cons are excited to vote for Obama gives some people pause? We are talking about a group of people who wreak havoc upon society and who should be barred from voting in all states. Unfortunately, this is not the case, but I would be still be looking around and thinking about that old addage which addresses the company you keep.
Uhm, you're joking right? Because certain people vote for Obama he's responsible for that? What about the KKK members and Neo-Nazi's voting for McCain? Should we not support him because of that?
This artical is disgusting, what happened to people being able to vote for who they like becuase they like the person. Just another artical writen with the underlying attempt to guilt and fear people into voting for Obama. Has anyone even stopped to consider that part of the reason that race continues to be an issue is becuase of people that think and act like this. If we dont get what we want, we may riot? What the hell kind of crap is that. I'm sorry but I liked Obama alot in the beginning and I even waver here and there, but all these little articals aimed at make up voters minds for them just make me want to vomit and i lean more and more towards McCain. He may not have the best of everything, but atleast hes not attempting to guilt/fear me into voting for him.
This article is so stupid! How dare people say they are going to riot in the streets simply because Obama doesn't win. This is the problem in this country. Everyone wants to say white people are racists but I am sorry black people prove that they are much more racists. In my neighborhood many of the black people openly express hatred towards the whites. This happens even when nothing is done to provoke them to do so. If Obama loses then please just go back to Africa and try to live there. The fact of the matter is that "African" Americans would be eaten alive in Africa.
I am black, and I think that it is ridiculous to vote for a candidate based on the color of his/her skin color or any other exterior factor. I am voting for McCain because I align closer to the values that he stands for compaired to Obama. Truthspeaker2212 is right, "Obama has no experience running anything" but his mouth.
I do believe in Obama I am white and one could say that i honestly fear defeat, I will cry if Mc
Cain wins assuming I am still alive, this so called bailout passes I might not be able to give 20.00 for a loaf of bread.
I am a white European married to an American Hispanic who like many poor kids in New York City did not have a lot of things going for them. But he paid attention in school and did his best without any guidance or complaints. He is now retired with a rich career and a Masters Degree behind him. I have never heard him say that we need a president in office who will support or take care of less fortunate people like him. He did it all on his own by making the right choices. America is truly the country where you can achieve anything you set your mind to. This is why I don???t understand the pack mentality of the majority blacks who vote solely based on color ??? what does color have anything to do with the presidential race or any other job for that matter? It has to do with whether you have the experience or not required to do that job. And what is a black president suppose to do for them that they cannot do for themselves?? By the way, my husband is republican and I am VERY proud of him because he is a good example of what America is all about i.e. it???s all up to the individuals to make something out of themselves and not the government.
Why do white women think that sex or marriage to a non-white man adds credibility to their racial beliefs? So your hispanic husband "pulled himself up by his boots traps"( yea, yea), made money, married a white woman, doesn't do a d*amn thing to help hispanics, and this makes his white wife proud?
Your husband sounds like many "people of color" who grow up poor, make it, and "diss"associate themselves from their racial/ethnic group. Mostly it's the men who do this. And they ALWAYS marry white women and ALWAYS go Republican/conservative. I don't like the crabs in a barrel mentality of some minorities, but the "I'm not with them.....I'm just an American" extreme - is just as pathological. Whites didnt get where they are by IMMEDIATELY marrying outside their race. seperating themselves, and doing nothing to help other whites! Whites did the opposite! All group do before joining the larger society.
LOOK WHITE WOMEN!!- having sex with men of other races does not automatically educate you on racial issues or qualify the beliefs you had BEFORE you met these men! If you date black men who say that blacks are less intelligent (and there are black men- who usually describe themselves as being more "mixed" - that do) that doesn't mean that this belief is true or that you came by this attitude thru that black man. If your hispanic husband doesn't care about the poor or other hispanics, and doesn't care if an hispanic is elected dog catcher-let alone president-----that means nothing! There are more blacks and hispanics who have the OPPOSITE attitude, so why does the attitude of the men of color YOU SLEEP WITH carry more weight?
You are all think that the President has absolute power! This is just not the case. While this may be the highest office in our country, go back to high school Government and you will see that we have other parts to the government for checks and balances. Bush did not create the mess we are in by himself. We have our representatives that we elected to thank for that. Just because McCain or Obama win, that will not entirely change the course of this country. They cannot make the changes alone. They need approval from Congress. Last time I checked, we had black Congressmen as well as white ones. No one should ever vote for someone based on color. That does not qualify a person. Frankly, look at your state representatives and that is where a lot of our current problems are coming from...
I would suggest that black folks have a severe case of myopia...seeing everything through the prism of race...and this article generates more heat than light. Perhaps that is inevitable given the "sociology of knowledge." But, it is a base canard that the only thing supporting Clinton's continued pursuit of the nomination was the latent racism of down-scale white voters. Your intellectually impoverished implication is that anyone of lower to middle socioeconomic status who does not embrace Obama is a racist. I would suggest that race has been a factor as much positive as negative for Obama and I am not referring to the universal black solidarity with Obama. Many young and self-anointed "enlightened" folks have relished demonstrating their freedom from racism by supporting him. They deride and cannot fathom the reluctance of others to do so...seeing no possible explanation other than prejudice.
What they cannot understand is the common sense of the largely older and less sophisticated Democrats. That sense is that Obama and his core supporters are far outside the mainstream. His resume is incredibly thin and his choice of associates troubling (a fact that is all the more relevant when the candidate himself has such a sparse track record). Most importantly, Obama raises serious doubts as to his adherence to their traditional American, yes ???small town??? values. Those who live in Oz cannot seem to contain their contempt for Kansas.
While there were not enough centrists left in the Democratic Party to stop the nomination of an extreme left candidate, many will find themselves strongly attracted to a centrist and maverick Republican who came within a whisker of being too "liberal" to get his party's nomination. It was this calculus that made the Clintons unwilling to quit...their hope that the party would yet awaken from its stupor.
Too many folks in our left-center party are consumed by heady thoughts that they can win an election going counter to 200+ years of American experience. That experience demonstrates that elections are won in the middle, where each vote switched counts for two. In a year where Democratic victory should have been a certainty, they are succeeding in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. And then there will be the predictable and simplistic cries of "racism" from the children following this modern day pied piper because their understanding of the electoral calculus (which the Clintons have mastered) is zero. Obama will have his day, just as McGovern and Dukakis???and his color will not matter any more than theirs did.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
What a load of twaddle this article is. I would expect as much from the leftist rag Newsweek. If you submitted the word "white" for "black" this could never be printed.
I guess this means I have to vote for McCain because I'm white, right?
Sadly, this is an accurate portrayal of the black community. Poor losers, whiny, andwith an amazing sense of entitlement
Get ready for dissapointment regardless of who wins, because the truth is no politician, black or white, gives a damn about the middle class or poor. Washington in in the back pocket of the Rich and their Corporations. So whoever wins we'll still be scraping out a meager living while the fat cats get fatter.
