Why is this a black vs. white issue? Why would it slam blacks if Obama loses? As always, the people need to choose the candidate the feel would do the best job. For me that is Obama. Yes, I will be disappointed if he is not elected, but not because he's black, but because I think he is simply the better choice.

So now the African American community feel they are entitled to the Presidency based solely on the color of their skin? The Democrats flavor of racism in on display for the whole world to see for the very first time and those who are fans of this flavor our going to throw a tantrum if the don't get to keep their favorite treat.

We can not allo these revisioneist historians to still our heritage away from us just because they do not like the way the people who look like them are accounted for; no matter how factual it may be.

Noe Spik Lee wants us to believe that African Americans played an important - and prodomenent role in the outcome of WWII

It is good that African Americans consider the option of ???what if.??? One has to prepare for the worse even when working hard for positive change. So, let us not cry that African Americans are voting because of race. In fact, they have always voted for White presidential candidates, not because there has never been an African American presidential candidate before. This time, there is an African American excellent presidential candidate for the country, and polls are showing that a portion White people are vowing not to vote for him because he is Black. Would such a portion of White cause some fear in African Americans who see that race is once more being a factor to discard an excellent African American presidential candidate from the presidency? Just try to put yourself in the shoes of African Americans, if you can, and you will retract right away what you said. Or, if you can get to know African Americans as friends and get to understand the daily hard reality that each one of them faces from the day of birth, then you will certainly get a different prospective??? Can you make this effort of getting out of your comfort zone to befriend African Americans and learn about their real life problems, or you prefer remaining in your comfort zone and make speculations about what you think you do understand???

I have had quite a few African American friends. Many of these friendships came to fruition after I proved to these wonderful people that I was not a racist; and it saddens me that they would require I prove myself before they would extend the hand of friendship to me. It would be great if a deserving member of the African American community achieved the highest office in the land, but not one that embraces issues my faith woll not permit me to support.

Obama is a brilliant man, with a brilliant wife, and a bright future: However, he does not represent my moral values, nor have the experience in foreign relations needed for me to vote for him. I am a college educated white man that would be glad to vote for a black man or a woman (I think it is time) if he/she reflected my Christian values and morals, and had the experience necessary to run this country. In fact, if General Colin Powell were to run for President, he would not only get my and my wife's vote, but the vote of most every white person that I know. ( I have discussed this with many of my family and friends). It is not a question of race or gender for me, but of qualification.

Just because he runs, doesn't mean he should win. This guy has a big bag of nothing.
Wanna protest and riot if he loses? Watts, Cleveland, Detroit. That did you a lot of good.
Pick up a book instead of a brick, use a mouse instead of a pistol. Give your bruther a hand instead of a hit.

    • Posted By: Rochel @ 09/28/2008 11:42:59 AM

The only reason he got to run was because we voted him there, because he was the most qualified of all the candidates...and yes he should win when you compare him to his geriatric rival.

If Obama loses, African American must allow for the fact that he really lost as any other politician does otherwise Obama or another equally competent Afican american will have a tougher time garnering support from their own community to win again. Additionally, if there are riots etc, it will be difficult gor other communoities to gauge their emotions now & in the future as well. Understand, I do mean if he "loses" or is clearly defeated. I am not talking about a case where there is a "questionable victory" a la 2000 be it Mccain's or Obama's win. As 2000 has clearly shown, unless a victory is perceived as really & truly fair, Americans, of "all stripes"
feel cheated as well as angered. Fair victory is not a an issue of race in presidential politics.
Everyone loses if the victory is not clean. The challenge will be in the judgement. It will also be a challenge for the media to reflect the circumstances fairly. Stoking racial rage rage [Black or White] will benefit no one, no president, no democracy, and no future minority candidate.

What is soooo crazy is- if he where a white man, he would be laughed off the ticket because of his lack of true leadership experience,
BUT BECAUSE HE IS BLACK, we have so many very ignorant people, saying they are going to vote for him-
not because he has a strong track record.
not because he has done great things in his few years in washington.
not because he has shown that he is a master of economics or foreign policy, etc.
    BUT BECAUSE HE IS BLACK?!?!?
    I am making a prodiction......
When he loses- which he will.....
    There will be riots
    there will be looting
    there will be anarchy
because of a population who reals that 300years ago history- that they are "owed" something,
Thanks Rodney, for showing how ugly our citizens can be,
Oh, by the way, I'm married to a black woman- so I guess the rasist card cant be used.

100% correct terry-and that is why NO Obama supporter has enough sense or courage to have answered posts like mine (below) all morning:

Comment: Proof that Obama supporters are dumber than rocks-this has been posted several times by different posters and none of you (airhead Obama voters) have enough brains or guts to answer:

Comment: Hey Obama airheads, put up or shut up! Are you afraid to answer these questions posted on this board all morning:

Do the following most important Obama accomplishments make him the better candidate:

1-Voted "present" 133 times on senate bills.
2-"Approached" Sen. Luger about nuclear arms.
3-Friends and fellow board member with Wm. Ayers the homegrown terrorist.
4-Buddies with "Rusko the Rascal"- govt. funds thief.
5-Most important accomplishment in senate was writing two books about himself.
6-Second most important accomplishment in senate is running for president past two years.

Too ashamed to answer or too ashamed to be dumb enough to vote for Obama????

So, Do you think that Republican propaganda is the truth? Most of what you are asking about is only a 1/2 truth, and you have to look a little deeper. Vote for Obama and your world will get better. Better Economy than what you have with 8 years of Bushism.

    • Posted By: cagday @ 09/28/2008 11:17:14 AM

Terry 33 you are wrong wrong wrong. Obama is not being voted for becauae he is BLACK. Its because he DOES have epxerience, he is inteligent, smart, and agreat leader. and most importantly inspires millions ifnot billions world wide, that is what you need in a leader. Please get your facts straight. Remember Jesse Jackson??? Many blacks did NOT vote for him, because he was an idiot.

  • Posted By: fergz1 @ 09/28/2008 11:42:25 AM

I am a white woman who supported Hillary Clinton. I have never given thought to Obama's skin color. Now I stand with him as our Democratic nominee. I hope all the first time voters don't feel like they have lost if Obama does not become the President. It is never a nice feeling when your candidate loses. We just need to get everyone out there to vote.

  • Posted By: guideboat @ 09/28/2008 11:42:22 AM

I still remember what Karl Rove (Bush's brain) said the day sfter the 2004 election "We moved heaven and earth the last several days" Translation: getting out the vote, and working with Ohio Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell, to throw the Ohio vote to Bush. Beware he will be doing the same this election. We must not let up, even if Obama has a HUGE LEAD Nov. 3.

  • Posted By: renner52osu @ 09/28/2008 11:16:39 AM

I think black people should be insulted by this article. Basically, Mr. Obama should be elected just because he is black? That is an outrage. He should be elected because of his platforms and positions. The best canididate should win. Period. And the fact that people are talking about protesting if he doesn't win is also rediculous. Black America assumes that only blacks can elect a black president. Wake up people! There are PLENTY of white people that will vote for him too. Just as much as black people feel stereotyped, the favor is returned.

OMG! I am extremely disappointed in this mode of thinking! Let us all vote for the man people. It is articles like this that drive prejudices. Like I have proclaimed to my children; there are good and bad in every race, color, and creed. Leave it as that, for crying out loud!! I am a middle aged, white, working woman with a BA...so what! I am confident in knowing OBAMA in 2008 will win! Think positive, but work for it too. Get off your tushies and get him elected.

  • Posted By: middleoftheroad01 @ 09/28/2008 11:41:56 AM

All voters, whether red, white, black, yellow or even purple, should be ashamed to say they would cast their vote for any candidate because of his color. That is the greatest promotion of racism ever stated. If the candidate you favor has a record of accomplishment which betters the whole of the population, and not just one particular portion of it, then he is the candidate you should vote for. If he is a candidate with a single mindedness toward persons of his own color, then you are being misled thinking you will be better off with him in the office for which he is running. This doesn't necessarily mean just the presidency. Any office held by a representative of 'the people' should be held by someone who represents ALL people, without prejudice or self promotion.

  • Posted By: CAHeider @ 09/28/2008 11:41:43 AM

My demographics would be that I am a middle aged, middle class, white womem. I am voting for Barak Obama because he is an intelligent, caring, good man. I wouldn't care if he was purple, I would vote for him. It is so sad that in this day and age that racism still exists and I won't blame black voters if he should lose for being angry. But he is going to win, so this conversation is a mute point!

  • Posted By: MikeONYC @ 09/28/2008 11:41:42 AM

You have got to be kidding. This is basically a piece that says "elect Obama or expect race riots." It's perhapsthe most bigoted, race-baiting piece I have ever seen in a mainstream media outlet. How about "elect McCain or the fighter pilots will bomb Newark?" This is a shameful, un-American piece of garbage journalism. Take it down before anyone else reads this.

  • Posted By: smithckd @ 09/28/2008 11:41:37 AM

This presidential election should not be based on race but on experience and record. Barack Obama does not have the experience to lead this country and his voting record speaks to this fact. John McCain has the experience and I believe that he will step up and address the problems vital to our economy and to the military situations we currently face. We don't need more social programs nor do we need the government taking over and running the private sector. We do need things that are going to stimulate the economy and do away with our dependence on foreign oil. McCain is the candidate best prepared to address these demanding times.

  • Posted By: timetovote @ 09/28/2008 11:41:18 AM

I can surely understand how the black community would want a black President. This should encourage them even if Obama doesn't win. But I have to agree with others, I don't think he is the one to do it. And if he wins it will be because of popularity. Now if we had someone like Martin Luther King running these days.......it would be another story. There are probably even other black men in positions of government that would be more qualified than him. There may be a little trepidation in the hearts of white people that if a black man got into office, he would just look out for and try to advance his own race, but I see so many white people supporting him, that I don't think that would stand in the way if enough people actually thought he could do the job. Personally, I vote republican because their policies line up more with what I believe. And if we had a good, qualified, black republican running, I would not hesitate to vote for him. The truth is, I wasn't entirely convinced that any of the candidates were the best ones for the job this election. But I do believe McCain is more ready to do this job than Obama and like I said, I vote for the one whose policies are closest to mine.

Warren Buffett is voting for Obama, as well as Paul Volker (Head of Fed Reserve sysetm). As well as 61 Nobel Laureates.
The biggest long-term threat to our country is the national debt. At some point, we will need to man-up and pay it down or it will gut this country and reduce our standard of living. You can???t keep cutting taxes and expecting government revenue to go up without cutting spending somewhere. Taxes will have to go up at some point and cuts need to be made across the board.

But imagine a candidate that says, we???re gonna have to raise taxes to pay down the national debt. Electable? Nope. So we keep going on our merry ways with the false belief that taxes don???t need to be raised. We keep deludiing ourselves and would never vote for a candidate that actually spoke the truth.

The news is all about spin. Very difficult to tell what is fact and what is fiction.

The facts are: the National Debt when Bush got into office was about 4.5 trillion dollars. Currently the national debt is 9.6 Trillion dollars.

No one wants to have taxes raised. No one. But who???s gonna pay for that rediculous 9.6 trillion amount? I guess we can leave it to our children and their children. It is called the fall of an empire. It happened to the Romans, Persians, Egyptians, England, etc???

You cannot have a stable country without a stable middle class. Look at Brazil, Mexico, and most third world countries???.they are defined by the super-rich and the super-poor. We were doing pretty ok, until the special interests took over.

If you want more of the same vote for McCain. If you want a visionary leader whith good judgement vote Obama.
One man owns 12 homes and is worth 150 million dollars (through marriage). The other owns 1 home, is worth 1 million dollars and drives a Ford Escape hybrid. One man was the editor of the Harvard Law Review, the other a graduate in the bottom 99% of his class at the naval academy. McCain has reached this stage in his career by having great lineage (his father and grandfather were amazing leaders. Admirals in the Navy during Vietnam and WWII). Remind you of someone? Bush W?

Let's stay in Iraq 100 years, bomb Iran, deregulate all industries, invest social security in the markets, cut corporate taxes and drill offshore and in Alaska without once requiring our automakers to increase fuel efficiency standards (less deregulation of course). Let's label the world black and white. Good or Evil. With us or against us. How stupid. How naive. How childlike. These are all McCain's positions. Policies that don't work and have bankrupted this country.

Warren Buffett is voting Obama because of the above. Obama is the better candidate and has the better judgement and ideas period.
Vote Obama. It will make a difference.

that article is completely racist. I know plently of WHITE people voting for obama! A SHOCK. A white person voting for a black person? phlease, its not about colour or race to most americans, its about the ideas and what they would do for the country and the draining economy, Talking about riots and how bad it would be for african americans, give me a break, its not about them, its about the best person for the role, i am white and most white people i know are voting for obama and i live in the most rebpublian state in this country. If voting is so important to african americans they should take advantage of it at every possible time, not just when there is a african american running for president. Who cares what e has to say! HEs black! well, i believe in equalness of all people, regardless of skin colour, regardless of race or belief , looks or any of that stuff, Articles like this, is examples of what is speading the nations apart, when they should be joint as one to get through th tough times. this is one country, its not a black vs white thing, Reforeming the way people think in this race is vital, Good luck America, good luck.

We all know race is always going to ge an underlying issue in every aspect of our daily lives, but if I were a black American, I would be insulted that an article such as this is allowed to undermine the integrity of the presidential race. I am a white female who is very excited about Barack Obama. If he loses for whatever reason, it will be detrimental to us all.

I am disheartened by this article and some of the comments in response to it. Here we go again taking our eyes off the ball. Ok...one of the candidates is African-American...more precisely he's biracial. However, the issue in this campaign is NOT about race. I repeat this campaign is not about race. The issue is our economy--people are losing their homes and jobs at an alarming rate. The issue is healthcare--insurance premiums are going up and many Americans are uninsured. The issue is education--our children are not being educated properly and we are losing our competitive edge in the world. The issue is freeing ourselves from dependence on foreign oil--we are funding the terrorism we're trying to stamp out. There are many more issues pulling our country down. America needs to get past race once and for all if we are going get past the problems plaguing our nation. I for one am tired of all the divisiveness. We are all Americans. If one American [black, brown, red, yellow, white, or anything in between] goes hungry, homeless, jobless, uneducated, uninsured, we ALL pay the price. We need to fight and sacrifice together to get our country back on its feet. A quote comes to mind: Together we stand. Divided we fall. My hope and prayer is that the American middle class keeps their eyes on the ball and vote for the candidate that will represent them for a change.
