Americans need to be very serious about the team they choose to represent them. There was a time when one said the ugly American. The talk now is the lying and ignorant American. What do you expect the peoples of the world to think when the Republican Party is trying to fister to liars on the world scene? Ihave supported George Bush.and he couldn't get me to support McCain and the dunce,Palin. A a matter of serios inquiry, do you really think he can support a ticket who does not know what the Bush Doctrine stands for. God has blessed America long enough now he needs to help America on 4TH November by seeing to it that Obama and Biden are elected.

Great. So now there will be riots if Obama loses, another white conspiracy. This story just reinforces notions that black people are all angry, irrational, and lazy. Can't it possibly be a more complicated issue, if Obama loses, than simple Whitey putting the black man down? That frame of mind IS lazy and stupid.

I'm American Indian. I don't see color, or gender. What I do see is a person pointing his finger at everyone that they're doing it wrong. Okay, yes, they are. And? There's no and. Obama doesn't have an AND. Only a You're Doing It Wrong. I will vote for anyone who has the answer. I already know there's a problem but if you don't have an answer you can't help me. It'll only give me a headache. By the way, who hasn't woke up to the fact that Obama doesn't want to bring the troops home? He doesn't. He wants to relocate them to Afghanistan not bring them home. He says he wants to give people tax cuts but at the same time he's going to take money out of our paychecks for healthcare. He has absolutely nothing new to offer in communicating with other countries. And, do you remember the pictures of Obama's sad face when he wasn't getting his way during this election. Or how he didn't anwser direct questions during the debate? He'll dismiss us too as President, and other countries. So no, I don't want a pouty, egotistical person for President. Haven't we had enough of those? And McCain? Wow, take about a blast from the past relating Russia to the KGB. Not very forward thinking at all. I demand a recount! Do Over! We need better options here!

Commment: Strike one, they allowed the war monger bush to steal votes of 2000. Results over 3500 american dead on 911, no tiwn towers, attack on iraq who was not a part of 911. Strike two they allowed the war monger bush to buy to votes of 2004. Results in ability to handle emergecy like harricain katrina, FEMA a joke, gas price $5.00 gal. 100,000 Irqais dead, and a economy on the brink of a depression. If Mccain another war monger takes office we could be looking at strike three...nukes think about it

You are an idiot. I cannot believe that you can truly believes the words you have typed. Ignorance like this is why our country is so screwed up. focus on individual resposibility and stop shifting blame or using one man as a scapegoat. If Obama wins and the country gets more screwed up then who is everyone going to blame? rest assured it will not be Obama. Why?

He won't lose. He is gaining more momentum every time McSAME and failin' Palin open their mouthes. This election is in the bag for Obama, and America will be a better place because of it.

    YES WE CAN!!!

    There are two stories here.

One story belongs to African Americans who are regaining a sense of pride and peoplehood by the prospect of an Obama presidency. The other story belongs to European Americans who are losing their sense of pride and peoplehood -not by the Obama presidency - but by demographic dispossession and a sustained campaign of misplaced white guilt.

I personally believe ALL races feel most comfortable with members of their own race. When young people look up to the highest office in the land, they want to see a reflection of themselves. So far, white people have had this, black people have not.

Although I will not vote for Obama, I am sympathetic to the blacks who will. And unlike others, I see absolutely nothing wrong with blacks voting for Obama BECAUSE he's black. Since racial pride is a natural, normal and healthy thing - why shouldn't they? Good luck to them.

But in the event Obama loses, blacks should not despair. They should take comfort in the fact that Obama was a serious contender for the highest office in the land and that he won the votes of MILLIONS of white people. Further, they still have a distinguished US Senator who can forcefully represent their issues in Washington.

Blacks should not riot, protest, or even complain about an Obama loss because it would tarnish the image that Obama has worked so hard to create. And for those newly arrived black voters who may have their hopes dashed on the rocks, all I can say is "welcome to politics."

My guy was Ron Paul and he didn't win either.

In the end, I personally believe

Obama is right in one sense: America need to "change" the way we chose our presidential candidates. A truck driver who might be hauling anythig from cardboard boxes to radioactive waste can not do so without first passing a written and practical driving test to prove he knows what he is doing. All our presidential candidates have to do is have money and get nominated by their respective parties, no real qualifications required. I would like to see a practical application type test designed to screen out those candidates who really have no idea what to do in a crisis situation such as the President of the Uniited States might face at any given moment. Anyone who wants to be POTUS takes the test and the respective parties narrow it down to the two best candidates. Then at least we would have the peace of mind in knowing that regardless of who we elect they know what to do in a crisis situation. Think about it folks. We don't let a police officer (who has the power to make life or death decisions) on the street without first screening them and training them. Yet, we put a person in the White House with access to litteraly thousands of nukes at the push of a button of by making a phone call, and all they have to do is meet certain constitutional requirements and get elected? We may not be electing the best qualified person as our next POTUS but the best Salesman, because all the debates show us is who can sell themself and their ideas the best. People if you want a real change, then change the way we choose our POTUS candidates.

Are Black Voters For Obama Racists?

I'm white, and I completely understand the concerns of the African-American voter. I grew up in a black city, D.C., and was 10 yrs old before anyone pointed out that I looked different. I'm not so worried about the Republicans rigging the election because Obama is black, I think they will pull tricks period, no matter what the skin color of the opposing party. They have been underhanded for so long now, it's their second natur not to play by the rules. S.C. primary in 2000, Rove puts out the word that McCain has an illegetimate black baby and it kills McCains bid for the Whitehouse that go round. Typical. They're loosing an election so they get their pals on the Supreme Court to declare Georgie boy the big winner. An uprecedented turnout of African American voters in Philadelphia so suddenly none of the voting machines in those precints work. Gee, funniest thing, they were working this morning. Guess you guys just need to go home. Bye-we'll try to get this fixed by '08. Yeah, sure. Believe me, they're ready with every trick in the book. The Obama campaign has been a rushing locomotive flying down the track toward McCain for two years and those bad boys have spent many a late night trying to figure out how to stop it. I'm sure they will come up with some great ones this time. Gosh, the state of Florida just experienced a total power brown out at 11 AM on election day and it won't be repaired for 2 days. So the guy who over sees the electrical power grid for Florida turns out to be Carl Rove's brother in law, what does that matter? I'm sure they're ready for November.-Donovan

Posted my comment before I finished. I see Obama as an intelligent, articulate MAN and his wife a smart, articulate WOMAN, and I am saddened that a good number of people are planning on casting their votes based on race.

The past 8 years under the Republicans have sucked the financial life out of me. Approaching retirement age, I should be thinking about relaxing. Instead, I now have to work two jobs just to make ends meet, and have come to the realization that I will have to work until they haul my dead body off my desk,

While I admire McCain, the man, I cannot fathom another four or eight years under the Republicans. What's worse, I have the feeling that McCain will not survive his term (should he be elected, heaven forbid), and Palin will become President. I think the SNL sketch said it all. Had Hillary won the Democratic nomination, I would have welcomed a woman as President, but Palin cannot hold a candle to Hillary.

I am happy that this election has caused more people to register to vote, because voting is not only your right as a citizen, but also your duty. But I do have a question. If someone has been incarcerated, aren't they forbidden by law to vote?

    • Posted By: Frast1 @ 09/28/2008 10:58:02 AM

alex.....look at your taxes. Do you honestly believe you will take home more money with a Democrat in office? I keep here we need tax cuts for the middle class (which we do) but this crazy talk about hammering the wealthy with higher taxes. Last time I checked the wealthy people are the ones creating jobs by taking risks & growing business.

      • Posted By: davidkingnj @ 09/28/2008 11:38:36 AM

Frast1 obviously has read the same book that Mr. Bush, the wealthey, and many Wall Street CEO's have. It's called how to send yourself into BANKRUPTCY! There are a few facts that people overlook, mostly because they benefit in the short term. Borrow money now, increase your salaries now, worry if you can pay it back later, and if you can't pay it back all the tax-paying bozos on the bottom will pick up the tab.

The top tier of the wealthy in the United States have greatly increased their percentage of the nations overall wealth since Mr. Bush's tax cuts. In fact, the percentage of the wealth that this top tier of Americans hold has been at a level not seen since right before the Great Depression. The tax cuts have not helped the middle class. CEO's and large businesses were taking home more money for themselves, not the people which they employed. Overall income, when adjusted for inflation during the past decade has decreased for the average middle class family.

More wealth at the top means less wealth at the bottom. It's not a hard concept for one to grasp. By the way the people at the bottom, greatly outnumber the people at the top. Spending becomes tighter for the majority on the bottom.

Next, Mr. Bush cut taxes but never cut spending, and this has led to a BALLOONING NATIONAL DEBT!!! The concept is the same here as it is for the average American family. It's nearly impossible to pay off debt that almost equals that of your yearly income, and that is where we are. By the way, we're paying interest on that debt to nations who aren't looking out for our best interests.

People like Frast1 have no real concept of the big picture, and only look to serve themselves in the short term. The big picture is that those of us who are in our 20's and 30's will spend our whole lives paying off the debts which we have accrued because our government only serves its wealthiest citizens. America is going broke, and it is people like Frast1, Mr. Bush, and Wall Street CEO's who are sending the rest of us there.

I believe Americans lose their right to vote only if they are imprisoned on a felony conviction, but I'm not sure of that fact.

  • Posted By: jhudson13 @ 09/28/2008 11:38:23 AM

What's missing in this article is why these people want Obama to win. No one said he is the best person to lead our country. They seem to want him to win because he is back. Favored just because of the color of his skin. Isn't this way of thinking what the civil rights movement fought to eliminate?

  • Posted By: eedeakin @ 09/28/2008 11:38:23 AM

People are not voting for McCain because he is white, its because they are not so bright HOWEVER black people are DEFINITELY voting for Obama because he is black--that has been proven in the poles so it seems to me if anyone should be angry its the white people.

  • Posted By: paddydonovan @ 09/28/2008 11:38:16 AM

Incredibly condescending!~I'm sure black voters will act like other voters when their candidate loses; by being upset but accepting it with class and throwing support behind the new next President. To suggest that a race of people will protest and possibly riot JUST BECAUSE one of their own does not get elected is saying that they have no grasp on reality and cannot accept reality. Shame on this b.s. article.

    Who are you people?
work4pay: He didn't pick Hillary I'm sure because she didn't want it. He didn't abandon her or the party. If you want to talk about self-serving, look at Sarah Palin who fires anyone who doesn't like her.
TDogg: Qualified? Not only is Sarah Palin not qualified for higher office, but Mr. McCain is not qualified because of his total lack of judgement in picking her. The presidency is a tough job and with his health record he has to know it could and probably will kill him. And look who he picks? A sign at the recent Anti-Palin Women's Rally in Anchorage (the lagest political rally ever seen in the history of Anchorage) said it all: She is Bush in a Skirt and worse. I am a white middle-aged woman and I don't even think of Mr. Obama as black. He is a well-educated, thoughtful and wise man who has the skills to defend us, speak for us and depolarize us so that all American's can work together to heal the mess our country has become. God help us all if Mr. McCain is elected.

Why I left the Republican Party

Senator McCain has let us down for the past 26 years in Washington and now he wants to change Washington with the same old ties. America is not stupid Senator McCain. Senator McCain and Bush administration has run America into ground with deregulations, failed war strategy, lcak of social and economic policies and their continued efforts of making the rich--richer and poor--poorer. What a tired game to pay with Americans who are slugging it out in the trenches to save their homes, families, and life savings. When he voted againist the Veteran Educational bill he really showed me how he intends on taking care of me and my sons for the future. What a let down, Senator McCain the veteran. He continues to support the Iraq war and we cannot pay our bills at home. He continues to fund the war with American dollars something in the way of 10 billion dollars a month. What about Iraq footing their bill with the 80 billion dollars they have in surplus Senator McCain? Finally, McCain has not inspired the diverse population of America to join the Republican Party. What is he offering to the many different cultures, races, genders and sexes to make them want to join the Republican Party? Nothing. The lies and flip flopping has increased and I do not know what he stands for at any given time and he wants me to vote for him. Now he adds insult to injury by adding Gov Palin to the ticket; what a poor act in judgement and lack of concern for the Republican party. This is why I let the Republican Party after many years of being a solid supporter.

I rather take my chances with Senator Obama. He is looking for change, taking about the social and economic challenges, and trying to put the middle class working group back on the map. He know that we are slugging it out in the trenches with health care, education, employment, national security, equal pay and list goes on. I know he cannot solve everthing in a moments blink of an eye, but at least he has his eye on the ball. Now I am a stong supporter of the Democratic Party and I am working hard to get Senator Obama elected. I am tired of being down in the bottom of the well with the Republicans constantly throwing dirt on me. Senator Obama has lowered me a rope to climb out with him pulling the rope to help me out.

I am no fan of John McCain, or George Bush, but I cannot vote for Obama. Obama will tax us all to death. He wants to give the U.N. direct taxing authority on the american workers. He will raise income taxes, S.S. taxes, and any other taxes that he can think of. Instead of fighting the terrorists, he will try to appease them. He is a Socialist, so you will see more entitlement programs, and you will see your rights diminishing even faster than with W. He is very pro-abortion and rabidly anti gun. He has no experience in foreign policy, and even less in military matters. If Obama is elected, he will preside over the destruction of our nation, as we know it. Anyone who votes for Obama is a damned fool.

And why has McCain's star risen but because of a folksy woman. As I listened to Katie Couric interview Ms Palin last week I thought to myself that Katie would be more competent than Sarah because she was much more knowledgeable than Sarah Palin on issues. So, let's vote on the best qualified "team."

Cain has adopted Muslim relatives in his family. Does that matter?

For the first time in history, America has a Black presidential candidate that is half white (American), half black (African), is genetically related to six former presidents, one civil war General, and even the Vice President. If Jesus was to come in the form of a black man, many white Americans would reject him as well! Even sadder, are the numbers of blacks and whites who somehow feel all that our welfare (the country as a whole) will be better in the hands of a white President. LOOK AT THE COUNTRY, BANKS, THE WORLD ECONOMY, ETC. The country, the banks, and Wall Street are all in the hands of white men! For once, let's pick a qualified President!

Last, If your life depended on receiving brain surgery, would you pick the surgeon that graduated 5th (894 out of 899) from the bottom of his class and his assistant with a 2.0 GPA baccalaureate degree (after six years of work & five colleges). Or, would you consider the surgeon that graduated magna cume laude? IT'S YOUR BRAIN, THE CHOICE IS YOUR'S!

    Team A

    Obama (GPA 4.33)

    2 years at Occidental College

Harvard Law School - (Elected president of the Harvard Law Review)
Juris Doctor degree (Magna *** Laude)
Taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.

    Biden (GPA 3.67)

University of Delaware ??? B.A History/B.A. in Political Science (Double Major)
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

    Team B

    McCain (GPA 3.0)

U.S. Naval Academy - B.S. (Graduated 5th from the bottom of his class)

i am not an african-american, and probably the saddest day of my life will be if McCain wins this election. I truly feel that Democrats this time have an incredible human being in Mr. Obama. Obama is intelligent, strong, balanced, well spoken, thoughtful, ethical and moral, who is not only loved and appreciated by the American people but by the whole world. Can you imagine being respected in the world again? That's what safety would be.

  • Posted By: work4pay @ 09/28/2008 11:37:11 AM

Anybody that thinks that some people voted for Obama simply because of his race would be correct. If they were voting for the most qualified person (in the primaries) they would have nominated Sen Clinton. Think about his qualifications, then vote for the best person for the job. Put your emotions aside. First African-American, first female, war veteran - none of that really matters!!!!

  • Posted By: pdanaher @ 09/28/2008 11:37:08 AM

I am a white woman and I am voting for Obama. This is not a race issue, in my estimation, but a survival issue of all Americans. We need REAL change, and I feel he will follow through. By the way, my whole family if voting for Obama (even my 88 year old Republican dad).
