I am not voting for Obama. I also did not vote for Hillary, and I'm a woman. Should I have? I would be happy to vote for a minority candidate--IF that person agreed with my political views. I am a conservative with a libertarian bent, and there is absolutely no way I'll be voting for someone as far left as Obama. White, black, Asian, or Latino, male, female, or other... I don't care. I would wager a bet that the vast majority of Americans won't be voting on race, but the issues.

I am a white European married to an American Hispanic who like many poor kids in New York City did not have a lot of things going for them. But he paid attention in school and did his best without any guidance or complaints. He is now retired with a rich career and a Masters Degree behind him. I have never heard him say that we need a president in office who will support or take care of less fortunate people like him. He did it all on his own by making the right choices. America is truly the country where you can achieve anything you set your mind to. This is why I don???t understand the pack mentality of the majority blacks who vote solely based on color ??? what does color have anything to do with the presidential race or any other job for that matter? It has to do with whether you have the experience or not required to do that job. And what is a black president suppose to do for them that they cannot do for themselves?? By the way, my husband is republican and I am VERY proud of him because he is a good example of what America is all about i.e. it???s all up to the individuals to make something out of themselves and not the government.

The Obama /McCain campaings will ultimately resolute into a racism vote when the election comes down to the wire.. (Hopefully, it does'nt come to that). The racism card/vote will ultimately decide this election. I am an independent voter who will be watching both campaings with an "eagle eye". Fact of the matter is...why can't Americans simply be honest and make unbaised votes based on the "ISSUES" to elect the "BEST QUALIFIED" candidate, rather than be distorted by reading about someone else's opinions and the "race card" smears?

I have a question for Newsweek..... Why didn't you reference more average citizens who are also worried about the outcome of this race? It struck me that there was a lot of emphasis placed on what the "scary" black people might do if Obama loses? Not much was asked about the average American of African descent (teachers, homemakers, retirees, students) might consider? Maybe they might just want to leave this country?

As an independent, I would hope that people would make their voting decisions based on policy and leadership, not color, gender or age. This talk of riots is absurd - should I as a white female riot because Hillary was thrown under the bus by the DNC in favor of their's and the media's golden child, Obama? Sounds a little ridiculous, doesn't it. Or should I have not voted for the last 20 years because no white females were presidential candidates. Let's grow up....cast your vote with conscience and accept the result sans childish tantrums and accusations.

Also, can we be real here. Obama is not black. It would be fine if he were, but he's not. His ancestry is mixed, half African on his father's side and half caucasian on his mother's side.

I am not black. I do believe that Obama would be best for our country and all of the people. I also think that he would begin to bring America back to the stature and respect that it had internationally. As a son of immigrants I would hope that all Americans from wherever they are descended will also open their eyes and also see the man behind the color of his skin.

I guess all Blacks think alike? If Obama loses then "Blacks" will go crazy? What century is the author living in?

Personally, I thought the article was consescending to the black community.

As a white voter, I'm impressed at the number of black voters posting here who are opposed to this article - and to the Democratic candidate - apparently, Allison Samuels has a very uninformed view of the black voter...

Ditto, I am a white maie and have ZERO concern about whether Obama is black, white, red or yellow ! If what this moron is implying is true, then I as a white person should FEAR having Obama getting elected, because he will attempt to enslave the white people. GET OVER IT. This is about socialist or capitalist beliefs which seem to be at the core of Democratic and Republican stratagies. If Obama loses, it will be because the vote of ONE NATION decided that McCain was more capable and competent individual to lead our Country, not because he was black. Likewise, if he wins, it shouldn't be because he is black. It should be because the vote of ONE NATION has decided that he is the individual that is needed to run our country at this time.

Consider the political platform and ask-what if all those with Hilarry go for Palin? I think Obama ought to keep Hilary as Vice.Others think this 'eventual shift ' to voters to Plain is an error created by Obama on some purpose none apart from himslef knows ! [ It's easy to say stop thinking about race but in practice does it work or has it ever worked?Better face reality than live in dreams-if Obama thought so he is wise-better wait for somemore time is the best policy.

Let's look carefully. You said Obama has no experience. Look at the experience Mc Cain and his Bush government has. An economy heading for totally destruction and devastation. They were able to bring America to its knees. They sat and wined and dined while the country bled. Now they pretend that they are on top of the situation. Here's a tip on the bailout. Go on their knees and ask Iraq to give them back some of their monies, since Iraq has such a surplus.

I'm curious as to what specifically it is that African-Americans want and expect Obama to do for them once he is elected. Also, in Bill Clinton's eight years, did they get something specific, and then lose it under Bush? I'm not trying to stir something up here. I'm truly curious to see some thoughts about this. I'm not talking about the country as a whole, but strictly the African-American community.

Yes, blacks got something under Clinton. The Clinton Administration started the whole sub-prime mortgage mess that is currently crippling our economy. Watch this video to learn how:

Don't expect an answer. Liberals are all about "feelings", and are not interested in actual facts of any kind. They just "feel" good about Obama and the "felt" good about Clinton.

Believe me, if Obama loses, it won't be only the black community who is outraged and horrified! As a Jewish woman, I can assure you I will be one of many others who will stand proudly in an uprising. If that's what needs to happen to give this country another wake-up call, then I'll stand there in front of police and armed forces protesting along with millions of others of all races and backgrounds that McCain is NOT our president! It is CLEAR that Obama is the better choice regardless of race. To white America who is voting for McCain solely because he is white, if both candidates were white and you looked at their qualifications, would you still vote McCain? I seriously doubt it. Ignorance needs to end! Call me an angry Jewish liberal... I could care less... but I won't stand for another government of lies. And I KNOW I am not alone!

People are very passionate about this election and it shows in the comments below. I'm excited at the prospect of Obama becoming president in huge part because he is black. it's a first in this country and why not be excited about the color of his skin. It's historical and comes at a time when this country needs a shift in direction. Obama might not be as qualiified as some say, but he's fresh and his disversity seems promising for all American's not just the wealthy and white. Instead of being negative about this election why not start praying. Pray for what is best for this countries people, for our children. Stop bickering, register to vote, educate yourself on politics. If Obama is elected is everyone just going to sit back and wait for a handout or are you going to stay enlightened for the sake of you, your family, your friends? If you choose to do nothing, but vote then you are supporting him for his color and have no true interest in him, just what he has to dish out. Be realistic, we are not voting for God, we are voting for the leader of our country. If he doesn't win well then we all know what it feels like to have a middle-upper class white man as president.

Define Liberal... 10billion a month to Iraq War.. Where is the media coverage in Iraq showing the success 10 billion a month is doing...Oh there isn't any... Every night on our nightly news we as Americans should be able to see the visible success in the streets of Baghdad... 10 Billion remember new schools and roads for Iraqi's what is more liberal than that... The first oil contract went to China..Why not America... Liberal.. Expanding Government with Homeland Security..to fix other inept departments of Government including the CIA, FBI, and INS who should have had red flags going off before 9/11.... What about this deregulation mess with the banks.. 700billion bailout... because Bush wanted us to be spending every ounce of equity from our homes instead of sitting back and truly taking in what was happening.. Many went so overboard they spent more on the loan of their house than it was even worth... And Bankers through a blind eye to the fact that children eventually would be thrown out of there homes... Due to the negligence of their parents and the Bank for allowing this robbery to happen..Jesse James... he is now in a suit and tie working for the Banks....

I am a 57-year-old white woman and I will be voting for Obama, not because of his race, but because I feel he is more qualified and this point in time the the needs of the average American at heart. McCan and his joke of a running mate are an insult to the intelligence of people in this country. McCain has already said he isn't going to run for a second term. What is something happens to him if he gets voted in - we are stuck with the bimbo as present. Although I was incredibly disappointed that Obama didn't choose Hilliary as his running mate, I still think he is the man for the job. What does McCain hope t accomplish in four years except to continue the horrible scenario in the oval office right now. As far as Obama's age, JFK was 37 when he was voted in, Obama is 44. McCain (no offense to any seniors out there) is too old and quite frankly I don't think he knows his right hand from the left. Vote Obama. Give this country a fighting chance.

wega(poster) said- 'Comment: I am so sick to my stomach about all this black and white crap! Vote for who you think is qualified to do the damn job to your satisfaction'. tell that to the blacks who are completely biased. in fact, it is something like 95% of them will vote for him. blacks are just as racist as whites. stupid white idiots, selling out your own people. when ever do u see blacks support whites? never. blacks prove time and time again they are for themselves. i could list pages of evidence. idiots.

    work4pay -
Are you saying that because Obama did not believe that HIllary was the best fit to help him run this country (i.e., that his opinion differed from yours and other ferevent Hillary supporters), that he has turned his back on the party??? Not getting the logic there. He chose a man with strong experience and with whom he can work well and trust. Obama/Hillary is just not a good fit. Hillary's (and Bill's) political aspirations would be too much for Obama to trust in their sincerity. I expect a presidential nominee to use sound judgement and to choose someone they believe will help them achieve the goals they are laying out for the country!!

    OBAMA/BIDEN '08!!

  • Posted By: calypsoman @ 09/28/2008 11:29:05 AM

And that's the problem: So many of you plan to vote for Obama because he is a Black man. Vote for him because you think.,of those left standing, he is the BEST person for America and to be President.
