When you write of racists, are you referring to those mentioned in the article? It seems that the only people ever referred to as being racist are white people. Those quotedin this "artice" seem to be bent on thinking that it is only "whites" who play the race card, especially when it concerns politics. Are you THAT naive? PLEASE, grow a brain! When I vote, I vote according to how well a candaidate's (and their party's) platform conforms to my beliefs and values, NOT the color of their skin! To vote based purely on skin color is THE SINGLE MOST IGNORANT vote a perosn can make!...If you want a black person (shall I use "African American"?) in the White House, place a candidate who has more experience and more integrity than the one now running on the Democratic ticket...Colin Powell? Condaleeza Rice?...Hmmmm?

No election should not be about race. What I came away from this article with was that black/African Americans were just now registering to vote. Why haven't they registered to vote before now? That is the only way that politics and government can be changed - through your vote. If you don't vote, don't gripe about how the country is run and how you are being held back because of the color of your skin! Just because a black man is on the ticket for President is no reason to vote! Each person should be concerned about the issues that each man stands for not the color of his skin. It is your responsibility as an American - be it black, yellow, red, or white - to vote for who you believe is best qualified for the job. There is so much reverse racism in this country. No, not just white people can be racist! Take a look around. This one sentence justifies the comment: "People that I know that have never cared about politics are registering to vote this time: gang members, ex-cons, you name it," says rapper Snoop Dogg. "I hate to see a lot of that hope go down the drain, and if he loses, it will."

Yes, I am white and I am voting for Obama - not because he is black but because he is best choice for what I believe in.

Comment: Strike one they allowed bush to steal the votes in 2000. result over 3500 americans dead in 911. no twin towers. a war with iraq who was not resposible for 911. Strike two they allowed bush to buy the vote of 2004. result inability to handle harricain katrina, $5.00 gas price and a economy on the verge of a depression.
unless we vote Obama strike three could mean nuke. Think about it

it was my fear that the African-American community would make this a "race-race". It's unfortunate that people are going to vote based on color and not qualifications to run our country, look at the mess we are in now! I have no race issues, black or white may the best man win. It is my hope that if Obama does not win the election that it will not be made into a "shady deal". In D.L. Hughley's remark to his kids, "I was just honest in saying life isn't always fair and certainly isn't always fair for African-Americans"....come on DL! That's the mentality that I am talking about!

    "response to strong america"
I find it amazing that white people in this country like you love to downplay just how deeply rooted racism is in this country. You ask african americans to "put aside race and start looking into the issues", well I think that has already been done. If you are suggesting that their is one issue that directly influences african americans that john mccain has a stronger position on than obama I would love to hear it! In regards to your rant about african americans changing, I actually agree with you on that. We must educate ourselves, pay attention to politics during EVERY election, and yes vote everytime. That is something that as a whole we neglect and to be an uninformed voter is doing your party a disservice. I have a background in economics, accounting, and finance so I find ALL of this stuff exciting, but sometimes I find myself a man alone when speaking with some friends and family on some of the issues of the election.

You are entltled to your own opinion, but for you to say that blacks are more racist than whites lets me know that although you are voting for obama you don't fully understand the everyday struggle that african americans go through and have NO black people in your immediate circle. That comment is so ignorant that it's actually sad to think that white people out there feel that way. Are their black people who use race as a crutch, of course, but if african americans did not continue to have to deal with extreme racism in this country their would be no crutch to lean on! I personally am voting for obama because I feel that he is actually the lesser of the two evils. Although I have the utmost respect for him and what he has done, lets be honest the man has NO experience. With that being said I have only got two choices and john mccain and sarah palin should not run anybody's town let alone the entire country. I would have preferred Gore, Kerry, maybe Hillary (before she completely lost it during the obama battle!) but again he is the lesser of the two evils.

This is a great year for politics in the USA. We should choose the best candidate for the job not because of the color or lack of color in ones' skin. This article is not in the best interest of African Amercans. This article adds fuel to the argument that black people are shallow and will only vote for color. Stop this type of propaganda and focus on the real issues - not skin color or how black people will feel lost. We are better thean that!

"What if "......WHITE people were to riot if the next president is BLACK/ARABIC!!!!!!!!!!!????????????

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 10:32:42 AM

The people at your "special" school need to take away your computer privileges. Obama is African American. He is not Arabic. You obviously suffer from delusions and need to take your medication. Hint: don't believe all the things you see on the internet.

Maybe you should use your computer to do a little research. He IS in fact from Muslim descent. Just because his skin is darker does not make him Black.

Had he chosen Hillary Clinton as his running mate, we would not even have a close race. If he can turn his back on the Democratic party and all of the Hillary supporters, then what makes everyone so sure he won't do that to everone else. He is self-serving and full of himself. He won't even do what's best for his party, only himself. WAKE up americans, look beyond the smooth speaches.

Everyone please e-mail MSNBC and ask them to remove this horrible article from their homepage. I've never requested this before in a blog, but it is warranted in this case. Here is the feedback link: http://ccc01.opinionlab.com/o.asp?id=PRceBdYI

This whole election makes me sick. I listen to the black people and how they are for Obama. Do they know WHY they are voting for him. Just because he is black does not make him qualified to be president. They act like just because Obama is black that he is going to change the world for black people, that he will make things easier and better for the black people. Give me a break. What these black people need to realize is that their life has nothing to do with the color of our president. Education and hard work is what makes any life easier. And if Obama doesn't win what are they going to do? Throw a tantrum in the street? Never vote again? I was on the fence about who I would vote for but this article cleared things up for me. John is the one for me.

Certainly makes me feel better that gang members, ex-cons and people with no permanent address will be coming out in droves in this election. Yep, if Obama wins, he has to be the right man for the job. I mean look who put him there, real pillars of the community.

Let's be real here, Linda, Eschutz. I earn more than 130K annually, in So. Cal, so it is likely my dollars are not as "long" as yours. Even if taxes would increase under Obama, I'd vote for him. How do you think government is able to run? The question is who will bear the tax burden? Maybe take the time to read Obama's proposals, and you'll see that you probably would benefit under his tax plan. 95% of Americans will see no tax increase under Obama. As long as a women like you, Linda, continue to vote based on your aspirations, you'll get nothing. If you continue to vote against your own interests for fear of a black president, you get what you deserve. I probably make more money than either of you, and still support him, because it is for the good of this nation. I'm wondering who these "Obama loving deadbeats" are.

Also, it is disingenuous to suggest that should this election be stolen, like it was in FL in 2000 or OH 2004, that it will be only blacks who will be out in the streets. There are Americans of ALL stripes who can recognize a fraud when they see it. There is plenty of black, white, brown and red "rage" to go around, if the Republicans even attempt another fraud like the two previous national elections.

Wow .Sir,I wonder how you can make over $ 130 K annually with a brain like yours?

  • Posted By: jasvan7 @ 09/28/2008 11:24:13 AM

I'm a black female that has voted in every election since the age of 18. I can't stress how important my voice be heard. I believe Obama is going to win because he is the best candidate. But, If he doesn't I 'm assuming he realizes the importance of him running again in 4 years. I will be there then to get him elected. Sure, it will be a disappointment but we as a nation have to believe we can and will survive. You have to believe you live in a great country and some disappointments are bound to happen. Don't destroy what Obama has accomplished by acting in a way that will allow the prejudice to show. Believe in what Obama is saying and know that even if he doean't win there will be change and greater respect for our race.

"As tight as Sarah Palin's smile" - what kind of comment is that? Very revealing about Ms. Samuels - and typical of the bias in Newsweek's reporting throughout this campaign.

Talk about racism! Let me get this right. It's not OK for a white person to vote based on skin color, but black people can openly talk about voting for a man based on his skin color and what he will do for black people and that's not considered racisist? And black people are really preparing to demonstrate if Obama loses? COME ON! I'm white and a republican and am tempted to vote for McCain because he's white and a republican, but I will probably vote for Obama b ecause I'm starting to think he may be the better man. The fact is, the most racist people in this country are black. It's time for some meaningful discussions on race in this country. Discussions that go beyond "people 7 or more generations ago in my family were slaves and I deserve something for that" to conversations that ensure equal rights and opportunities to people of every skin color without automaitcally labeling anyone a bigot for their views, which are based on past experiences in dealing with both white and non-white individuals. Let's elect Obama and level the playing field so white people can quit taking this racist crap and start realy speaking our minds.

  • Posted By: hereb4you @ 09/28/2008 11:08:15 AM

I'm sorry, but I am really so sick and tired of hearing about the black's plight. Your people haven't even siffered half the indignities as the Jewish race or the American Indians. Let's not forget Obama had a white mother. Neither Obama or McCain deserves the office. As far as riots and protests, if blacks start acting all stupid, wouldn't that prove you all cannot deal rationally with reality?

    • Posted By: theword07 @ 09/28/2008 11:23:16 AM

Do you even know the history of the American Indians? Do you recall their demise? And if you don't believe black's have suffered not siffered by the way, as much as Jews, then you don't know history. As a matter of fact, you don't know news. Just recently, Africans were thrown overboard a ship that was supposed to be bringing them to a better place. Has the slave trade in any country really changed?

  • Posted By: jj_on_nw @ 09/28/2008 11:23:11 AM

As a registered Republican, I support McCain. But, if an excellent candidate that had the values and judgement I admire also happened to be a non-White male, I would also support that person.
When McCain wins (I hope) the possibility of a Black candidate in the future (either party) could be affected by any bad behavior of the populace. It would give bigots an "I told you so" and instill fear in average people of all stripes. I recommend grace for the losing party since tomorrow is never far away...

As usual it is in vogue to blast republicans and the GOP, I find it funnny, because in the last three years, what have the Democrats, including Obama, done to fix this country....or more improtantly what have they DONE, other than stand on the sideline and complain (while they controlled congress)

    • Posted By: cagday @ 09/28/2008 11:23:10 AM

NO Suger or whatefver your name is, just because the Democrats have a slight majority in congress DOES NOT mean they CONTROL congress that is BS right wing propaganda put out by the Republicans. They have no power to overide a presidental veto or a fillibuster which have been used time and time again by the Republicans to block any bills put through by congress beleive me they have tried but failed because of Bushs veto. Get your facts straight please.

  • Posted By: aprilm9 @ 09/28/2008 11:22:40 AM

Wow. People have got to understand that a Presidential Election is not a popularity contest. We can't give the job to someone based on skin color and/or gender. To do so would be the very same discrimination we've been fighting against for decades now. I hope that, when I apply for a job, my chances of getting that job are based on my experience and credentials...and not based on my skin color or gender. How much more important is it that we elect someone based on his credentials and experience when we elect (hire) someone for the position of Comander In Chief for the US??
