It won't help Obama much when people figure out the democrats are to blame for the economic mess.
In 2005, for the first time in history, a serious Fannie and Freddie reform bill, S. 190, was passed by the Senate Banking Committee. The bill gave a regulator power to crack down, and would have required the companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets. If that bill had become law, then the world today would be different. But the bill didn't become law, for a simple reason: Democrats opposed it on a party-line vote in the committee, signaling that this would be a partisan issue. Republicans, tied in knots by the tight Democratic opposition, couldn't even get the Senate to vote on the matter.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aSKSoiNbnQY0
In support of S 190, also known as the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, John McCain said: "For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs--and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO's report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO's report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay."
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/record.xpd?id=109-s20060525-16
Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 would have Amended the Federal Housing Enterprises Financial Safety and Soundness Act of 1992 to establish: (1) in lieu of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), an independent Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Agency which shall have authority over the Federal Home Loan Bank Finance Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Banks, the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac); and (2) the Federal Housing Enterprise Board.
Most importantly with regard to the CDS situation, S. 190 set forth operating, administrative, and regulatory provisions respecting: (1) assessment authority; (2) authority to limit nonmission-related assets; (3) minimum and critical capital levels; (4) risk-based capital test; (5) capital classifications and undercapitalized enterprises; (6) enforcement actions and penalties; (7) golden parachutes; and (8) reporting. Adoption of these regulatory provisions would have undoubtably affected the way CDSs were dealt with in "private" enterprises.
The bill would have also amended the Federal Home Loan Bank Act to establish the Federal Home Loan Bank Finance Corporation., and transfered the functions of the Office of Finance of the Federal Home Loan Banks to such Corporation. If this had been in place three years ago, this whole situation might have been averted.

"The race is as tight as Sarah Palin's smile". How about "the race is as big as obama's lips".
Economic Situation In the U. S. A.
By: Jordan C. Fan, Prophet Of Environment.
The Wall Street is currently continuing its drastic collapse and there is no light can be seen at this tunnel to Hell. Much of the U. S. economic problems are related to their current election. The following are my perspective to the the current economic situation in the United States:
(1) The current stock market collapse may be artificial which was cause by Blacks who want to create sight of economic downturn o force Americans to elect Barack Obama for a solution of their problems. Small investment groups of minorities could short sale in the stock market to bring about drastic Wall Street collapse.
(2) The U. S. housing could be caused by Black who might have relocated to other states and live with relatives and friends to generate favorable electoral environment and vote counts according to percentages of state population. This is to help Obama in their election. So there is a possibility that the housing crisis could be resolved after the election.
(3) The housing crisis was cause by the White people also for favorable election outcomes in a particular state. This is similar to situation number (2). In general, the American political system is now proven to be a great failure which has and will continue to affect the well being of Worldwide economy for long term. Whenever there is a election, one side always need to create economic downturn to blame on the incumbent government. Also, a change of governing party will create instability and insecurity to invite terrorist attacks such as the September 11, 2001 disaster. The U. S. should adopted new form of political system and learn from the Chinese before it is too late. Communism Chinese style is the best political system.
(4) On the other hand, the American economic crisis could be real and there will be no solutions in sight and the Great Depression II is imminent. So Environment help us!
Political Summary And Analysis Of Sarah Palin.
By: Jordan C. Fan, Prophet Of Environment.
Since Palin is from the West, those battle ground states such as Alaska, Oregon, Hawaii and Washington State can be won more easily by Republicans. There is also potentials for a California victory which will definitely be decisive on the whole election. Obama was born in Hawaii, Obama's defeat there will be his greatest humiliation. Alaska is one of the biggest oil producing state. When oil drilling is the number one issue in this election, being a govenor of Alaska will certainly help. Alaska is also the last remaining wilderness of the U. S. A. It will be a good opportunity for the Republican to show their concerns of the Environment by using her. Palin is a woman therefore will attract women voters. As a former beauty queen, she is young and very pretty with great sex appeal to straight men and lesbian women also. Her pregnant teenage daughter will draw sympathy from those who were teenage unwed mothers and pro-life anti-abortion voters. Single mothers will also be attracted to the Republican Party. She represents traditional White families of Puritan values as opposed to those predominately single parent unwed mother type Black families. Neither McCain nor Palin are political correct. They only speak the truth and are very "genuine, what you see is what you get!" as quoted from the Alaskan Republican Convention delegates. She represents White people who have been displaced from the lower 48 states due to crimes and harassment from Blacks there. Those White people have little or no choice but to seek Northern Exposure living in Alaska for peace and quiet. They will certainly revenge Black intimidation and harassment. McCain's situations is quite similar. After the Civil War, the U. S. was destabilized by its Black minority. The only way to unite this country was to destabilize other nations and the world. To achieve that goal, the U. S. had to invade other countries such as Vietnam. McCain was a pawn and victim of such U. S. aggression. He certainly will blame African American for that. Palin was the military commander of the Alaskan Air National Guard which are useful experience for a future Commander-in-Chief of this country because Alaska is bordering Russia and near China and Japan with one fourth of all U. S. nuclear missiles located in that state. McCain who was also a professional soldier himself will feel comfortable working with Palin. Among both Republican and Democratic Party tickets Palin is the only one with executive and administrative experience . All other candidates McCain, Obama and Biden have only legislative experience.
John McCain's Naval Academy.
By: Jordan C. Fan, Prophet Of Environment.
An important presidential election record will be broken this year, it is not the first time that a woman or Black person will be elected to the Executive office. We will be witnessing a great American tragedy unfold right before our eyes. It is one of the rare occasions when a native son will not be elected by his own state. To make it worse, such native son is the greatest hero in an area which has always been the pride and joy of that state. Correct me if I am wrong! I have hardly heard any one at the Republican Convention or during their campaign mentioned the Annapolis Naval Academy, not even McCain himself. Being born in Panama to a naval family and travel all over this country and the world, McCain really does not have a true home. Arizona is a states he used for election to Congress which he has not visited frequently. The Navy Academy is the only place McCain can really call his home in which he had spent the happiest time of his college life with his navy friends. Maryland should welcome her naval native son with open arms and elect him as president.
Unfortunately, Maryland have 1.6 million Black or approximately 30 % of the state's population or making it the "Black Capital" near of the real U. S. Capital. It was 36 % to 61% (almost double) in favor of Obama over Hillary during the primary there. All media and people there have expressed the sad fact that little or no Marylanders will vote for McCain. I personally don't like McCain very much but my conscience forced me to campaign for him. This episode is not only the greatest disgrace of all Americans but also of that of the human race. It is an unforgivable sin committed by all Marylanders and her Black racists. I suggest the Government relocates its Naval Academy out of Maryland. Arizona is probably not a good location because it is a desert and has no water for the navy people. McCain should decide where it is going to move to depending on whether that state has voted for him. This time, the true and only battle ground states (Armageddon) are not Ohio, Florida or Michigan but Maryland. The decision is not who is going to become president? But whether God had made a mistake in creating man?
As usual with this letter I, as Prophet of Environment, have ended this election right here and now. People, advertisement and media don't bother to comment on the election again. It will a waste of our time.
African-Americans should remember 1928 - Al Smith, the first Roman Catholic nominated by a major party, was beaten by Herbert Hoover. Remember what happened the next year - 1929 - Yes, the stock market crashed and the Great Depression started. Had Smith been elected, I don't think the economic situation would have been much changed, just the blaimees: Smith, Catholics and the Pope.
Doesn't it seem eerie that the next time bigotry could play a decisive role in a presidential election (in 1960 when Kennedy was elected, bigotry obviously did not play a decisive role) we are facing our greatest economic challenge since 1929? Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
AS A MAN OF FAITH, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE FACT THAT THIS MAN CALL'S HIMSELF A DEVOUT CHRISTIAN AND IS PRO ABORTION JUST THINK OF THE AMAZING FACT OF WHERE HE HAS COME FROM FROM A SINGLE PARENT OF AFRICAN DESCENT AND BECOMES A NOMINEE FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. WHAT IF HIS MOTHER WHAT HAVE COMMITED ABORTION, AND HOW MANY GREAT AMERICAN'S ARE ABORTED BEFORE HAVING A CHANCE TO EVEN LIVE LEAVE ALONE HAVE THE CHANCE AT HISTORY THAT HE HAS HAD AND COULD HAVE IF HE WIN'S THESE ELECTIONS.
A woman should be free to choose whether she carries a child or not. There are many circumstances when she will choose not to and this should be respected in the same manner one should respect a woman who wants to be a baby machine.
I agree that both McCain and Bill were displaying racial undertones. They don???t believe Obama belong in the position of being a presidential nominee. McCain???s body language during the debate said it all. He was condescending and you could see he thought himself superior and should not be debating this ???upstart???. Well I have news for them two old coot, they can go and jump in the lake!
McCain is not very bright, never graduated, is not even street smart, have a poor grasp of the economy, cannot even use a computer, has a privilege background with a rich wife and is completely out of touch with the middle class. Now tell me which one of the two do not belong and is not worthy of being a presidential nominee? House Republicans do respect neither GWB nor McCain. This is clear by the votes today. John McCain is not ready to be president. Being a war hero does not necessarily make you into presidential material. John McCain is quick to anger and can be out of control especially when things are not going his way. He sees everything through war tinted glasses and while America is tied up in wars in the Middle East that have not only weakened the economy but also allow other super powers to get a grip on the rest of the world. These policies must change and the man to make these changes is Barack Obama.

There has been so much hoopla about the debate, and frankly what I saw with Osama was a "PERFORMANCE" He missed his calling...he should have gone to Hollywood, because he's hell on remember his LINES, when QUED...Osama is the WORST possible thing that could happen to our nation at this point in history....He's just not quipped to make good sound choices...Let's take for instance, telling Pakistan that "IF WE HAVE TO WE'RE gonna bomb them , then to insist that Iran is a small, harmless country..is abolutely INSANE!!!!! By the way, did anyone take note of the look on Cindy McCain's face when Michelle,(we call her SASQUATCH) approached herlooked like a gorilla reaching for a Barbie...her face was somewher between FEAR and DISBELIEF...I think Michelle is a transexual..hey, the dude has a adam's apple...and those feet. wow they've gotta be a size 13....New England Patriots could use her....Lastly, why has Osama kept her under lock and key???? Is he ashamed of her, or is his just afraid of her continuing to expose the Osama racial hatred of white Americans?????
I reminded me of KING KONG....where the gorilla reaches down for the cute blonde girl....Hell, w
I am glad that racist like you are a dying breed in this country. If you have done any research you would know that within 20 of sooner, whites will be a minority in this country. As we speak our country is having to recruit engineers and scientist. Learn to co-exist, or get the hell out because you and your kind will be history.
Well, from what I've seen, all the engineers and professionals must be in prison with the rest of the hoodlums....what a joke...How do you propose that White Americans will be in the minority when the black race is committing genocide on themselves.....1,400 black babies are aborted DAILY in the USA....No, my kind is not a dying breed, we're just tired of looking the other way...and that's a FACT!!!!
WELL ! ! ! Thank You VERY much ..... After read the colume , ( being a white guy - 61 yrs) ... I guess not being African-American I "MUST" vote for the other side ...... *** ..... one more vote for McCain ........Damm
A leak out if the Clinton compound that Bill Clinton said he absolutely could not vote for Obama base on his personal code of ethiics...WOW, that's scary considering Clinton has the ethics of a snake!!!!! We, as a country clearly cannot afford to allow this second year senator cut his political teeth in the oval office...McCain has the Professional demeanor, the Knowledge, and the LEADERSHIP that our country has to have in order to survive the threats inside and outside of this nation....Just say NO to O
Sad but real. You don't have to be black to see the subtle racism in the campaign. Code words are being used, and McCain isn't looking Barack in the eyes. Shame on him and this country for keeping this heinous attitude going after all the suffering we've seen. Rent some movies like "Mississippi Burning" or "The Great Debaters" and you'll get the idea. Work for Barack's success--we all deserve it!! He's outstanding; he's us all.
Shame on you, Julianna, for introducing McCain and his campaign as being racist. They have NEVER said a racist related comment in reference to Obama. They would have to be idiots for even think of doing such a thing cuz it would be political suicide. You are saying just because McCain does not look at Obama when talking in the debate he is racist? That is such a ridiculous comment.
sharenews you have written an epistle to the Corinthians, yawn yawn, what is your point? Where is it going?
spicegirl, I just posted the article (and the link at the 3rd post) as food for thought for those who want to read it cuz I thought it was interesting. It is not anything I wrote myself. . . .thats why I listed the writers name? You seriously dont get what I am getting at? Maybe you would be a good POTUS. Lol. Seriously, the point is that the article presents an arguement that just because a candidate is highly intelligent (e.g. the press calls BO very cerebral and Obamabots continue to extol his smartness, Harvard graduate, McCains not intelligent given his bottom rank in Naval school, etc.) the candidate may not be the better choice for POTUS (and that is without factoring in Obamas lack of experience and lack of a significant list of accomplishments in Washington DC). Just another way to look at the benefit (or not) of one being highly intellectual in a top level government job.
.
This is a disgraceful story. How come you haven't done a "what if McCain loses" story? My guess is that it's because it's not newsworthy. You're fueling racism when you insist on dividing people by their skin color and implying that people are too stupid to make decisions based on anything other than skin color.
It is just about a month away from the GE. Giving that, all of liberal mags are starting up the race-oriented articles to get the white guilt thinking going in voters heads. There will be more articles like this between now and the general election to STIR THE POT so to speak. Journalism is dead . . very sad.
Also if you look at some of Mccain speeches there are blacks in the background so you can't say every black person is voting based on race and Vise Versal with whites in the background of Obama speeches. The the great thing about voting. It's choice! though let it be a smart choice. People say experience but what has Bush done??? His father was president before him and Bush had two terms? If that's not experience then what?? What has he done really with all that??? Nothing that is but cause more problems and more lives to wars still waging! So if experience count with a bitter heart then what good is the decision making under a war hungry experience president copycat??? We will see more of the same or more worse! Do you keep broken things or replace it?? Sure Obama is young but a open candidate with a strong group of people backing him with experience? Now McCain????. Nooooooooo! That would be scary if age took it's toll. The Vice is far less experience but people are voting because she is a female on the ticket. So you can say people are voting for all reasons and some for the dumb reasons! I'm voting on common sense! Why would I want the same broken thing for 4 more years? That would be a inexperience decision on my part and it dosen't help our problems but add to it! So if color is blinding your heart then your not hurting anybody but yourself. :(
It's not based on race! Obama has alot of points that hit not only blacks but whites etc. He has a real american story far better than McCain. Obama has been through the eyes of blacks and whites in american. he has seen the side of struggles through his mom who is white people! Not a problem but should point out for those people who disreguard his mom and only look at his color from his father! His grandparents who are also white raised him so he has been brought up in both racial enviroments! McCain has been through only one enviroment. How can a person care about other people when he has not been through there shoes??? Everybody argue experience counts when it is not the most important thing in a human being? Heart goes a long way people! An experience man can also be unwise and make bad decisions and some do! Obama may lack the experience for one the age difference. Mccain would have the advantage anyway because he was born way before Obama. That dosen't mean a younger person can not be as wise when he has lived through the same USA McCain has. Is it really his experience that some people are turning there votes away??? If it's race then your counting yourself out of a chance for all people because Obama is not just black people but both white and black. So those who are white that would not vote for a person that represent both whites and black and americans of all then it's a lost for you also than just the African Americans and other minorities of America! If Obama was 100% with his views would it make the choice easier??? So to answer why so many African Americans vote for him in not just color but like whites would vote for McCain there familar with someone they feel they can relate to. Obama's a special case because he relates to people no matter the color if you look at it and listen to him! Go Obama 2008! He will be a good president for all race of people!
Hey Romero........you're all over McCain's intellect?? You can't even spell!!!!!!!! Tell us about your "impacable acadamic" credentials..........what a loser you are.........you epitomize the decline of Western civilization by giving us the only thing you have left and which you cling so dearly to.......YOUR OPINION........hardy har har....and to make it even more comical..........you actually think your OPINION matters.......a ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!
Apprently my opinion matters, because it got your attention. You are not very logical.
Doesn't it bother african-americans to realize that Obama is only 6.25% african american and is ARAB-american? His father's birth ceritificate listed him as arab (not african american). ---- It's likehe is making a mockery out of our african-american citizens. Either that, or the realization that we are at war in the middle east and he knows he cou;dn't get elected it he was truthful.
Your percentage is not logical. Apparently your mathamatic was not your best subject in school. Your brain does not work logically. How can a person be only 6.25 black when the father was black and the mother was white. Your logic may fool someone who is also weak in math, but I am sorry to inform you that I am not one of those people. Have a good evening.
Hmmm. I found this older article that definitely makes one pause and think about what the outcome might be should a POTUS that is just TOO CEREBRAL gets elected . . .

BECKER AND POSNOR
June 17, 2007
Intelligence and Leadership: Posner
Here is a puzzle: EFFECTIVENESS in SENIOR LEADERSHIP positions in GOVERNMENT does NOT seem to be well CORRELATED with INTELLIGENCE.
Washington was a better President than Jefferson, though less able intellectually. Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan WERE NOT AS BRIGHT as Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, or Bill Clinton. Lincoln, a brilliant lawyer, is an exception; Theodore Roosevelt perhaps another exception; and doubtless there are others. But OVERALL THE CORRELATION BETWEEN INTELLIGENCE AND EFFECTIVENESS IN THE PRESIDENCY MAY actually be NEGATIVE.
Even more striking are the FAILURES of Kennedy and Johnsons NATIONAL SECURITY TEAM in Vietnam and George W. Bushs national security team in Iraq. McNamara and his whiz kids (such as Daniel Ellsberg, Harold Brown, and Alan Enthoven), the Bundies, Walt Rostow, George Ball. These were EXTREMELY ABLE PEOPLE; many of them (like McNamara and McGeorge Bundy) truly brilliant. And Bush assembled an outstanding national security team: Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, Wolfowitz, Rice, Tenet (appointed by Clinton but held over by Bush). Two members of the team, Cheney and Rumsfeld, were former secretaries of defense! And Powell was a former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.
It could just be bad luck, but I think not. Economists distinguish between general and specific human capital, the FIRST created BY IQ AND EDUCATION and the SECOND by TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE in a particular job. A person who has a large amount of general human capital is likely to find a job in which that capital, augmented by on the job training and experience, is HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE. The resulting success will make him an attractive candidate for a HIGH-LEVEL GOVERNMENT JOB.
