"One senior McCain adviser said the entire flap could have been avoided if the campaign had resisted attacking Barack Obama for his ties to two former Fannie Mae executives, which prompted the media to take a second look at Davis. "It was stupid," the adviser said. "A serious miscalculation and an amateurish move." "

so, he's not annoyed at the fact that the dude was paid all that money for doing nothing, and mccain was hypocritical in his attacks.... he's just annoyed that he didn't avoid the issue!

    awesome... straight talk express!

Ok, We can consede that McMain's campain advisor received a retainer that puts McCain 2 steps away from the money/influence. Sen. Obama received money directly from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac as campain contributions. Doesnt that make him directly beholden to these entities?

Your posts are some of the dumbest I have read and strikingly similar to that of Rush Limbaugh, who; it seems, has successfully injected your feeble mind with his distorted facts and paranoia.
Why am I under the impression that you are a Rush aficionado? It is because you a parroting the same garbage he spews into his EIB GOLD MICHROPHOME.

Yeah, The Death, Doom, Destruction part might actually be the Republicans, seeing as they are responsible for 4000 American troops, and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians dead for a war based on shoddy intelligence, meanwhile Haliburton's stock DOUBLED. Or you know, not signing the ICBM treaties, or the Kyoto Protocol so we can continue to poison the air and water, torturing prisoners, circumventing the UN, setting up secret prisons, The Despair and Depression is ours though, your right. Over the worst 8 years in the history of this country. Ronald Reagan is spinning in his grave.

Some of you people are so twisted,,,first off the Russians have everything to fear in us. That's why they are doing all the posturing. The main reason for the loss of homes is poor decisions on the part of consumers and irreputable lenders in getting into low rate adjustable mortgages during the refi-boom and buying homes that they could not afford. I was in the mortgage industry, I saw it first hand. Last of all this article is a joke. "Money trail?" Obama is the 2nd highest recepient of political contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. McCain co-sponsored a bill in '05 that would have chenged the way they do business and would have killed those contribution funds per Greenspan's request. The Dems killed before it came to vote. Learn you facts and branch out where you get your news sources.

The fact Check Should be Done by you. The Russians Are not Affraid of us.Look back at Soviet history and follow the bouncing ball, If you have nothing to back it up . DON'T MAKE RANDOM COMMENTS IN A POLITICAL DEBATE TWARDS THEM !

The difference is that Obama's contributions come from EMPLOYEES of Fannie and Freddie. A detail you Repugs like to conveniently leave out.

"The McCain campaign told reporters the fees were irrelevant because Davis "separated from his consulting firm ??? in 2006," according to the campaign's Web site, and he stopped drawing a salary from it. In fact, however, when Davis joined the campaign in January 2007, he asked that his $20,000-a-month salary be paid directly to Davis Manafort, two sources who asked not to be identified discussing internal campaign business told NEWSWEEK. Federal campaign records show the McCain campaign paid Davis Manafort $90,000 through July 2007, when a cash crunch prompted Davis and other top campaign officials to forgo their salaries and work as volunteers. Separately, another entity created and partly owned by Davis???an Internet firm called 3eDC, whose address was the same office building as Davis Manafort's???received payments from the McCain campaign for Web services, collecting $971,860 through March 2008."
Now, there is a man with integrity and honesty. McCain, may your financial prowess set the record straight for being a man with good character. What a hoot, getting caught with the loot you passed out and all at the taxpayers expense!

I'm working in the wrong field! Wouldn't it be great America to hardly work at all for $15 to $20 per month? What I could do with that kind of cash...WOW!

Criminals! Down with McPain ... up with OBAMA 08*

Although the link to McCain is circuitous, the direct link to Obama and Fannie May and Freddie Mac might interest you. There probably won't be any coverage of this, however, because News Week is not in the habbit of covering "fair and balanced" news. That is why I cancelled my subscription. You will notice in the following link, that Obama has only been in the senate 3 years but is # 3 in total contributions received over a 20 year period. Check out the facts: http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/update-fannie-mae-and-freddie.html

How is no eye-contact straight talk a good thing? And, in the Bush tradition, it's the "Big Lie" told over and over again.

Is it time for a new political party to replace the failed Bush-McCain-Rove gang?

  • Posted By: techie22 @ 09/28/2008 1:35:24 PM

Please God, don't let these greedy people drag our country down any more.
And Oregongranny is so right, almost everything they say about the Dems,
are things they are guilty of. I've never seen so much deflection of guilt.

Thankfully, people are starting to get wise to their tricks and the jig is up !

Does anyone else notice that whenever mclame mcsame points a finger at Barack Obama his remianing fingers point back at himself. That's how it should be because he is always accusing Obama of things that HE is guilty of. He would be as big a joke as his running mate if he wasn't so scary!

  • Posted By: JayInDallas @ 09/28/2008 1:09:22 PM

Great job, Newsweek. Despite the rantings from the GOP faction in this blog, the truth, however undesirable to some is something we've seen little of over the past 8 years. I find it interesting that the loudest objections come from the GOP when the media tide is against them. Otherwise, they are perfrectly happy to bolster their positions by citing the very media they rail against as "Liberal". These labels are far too easy to subvert and are used without definition except for the most negative connotations. Over the course of the campaign, lies about Obama have been debunked. What remains are the "talking points", slander and rhetoric that the McCain campaign may not refute, but would not repeat out loud. When the tide has gone against Obama, I did not see that campaign rail against the "right-wing" media. What it did was effectively stop feeding the members of the media that approached the campaign with an agenda (Fox Noise) causing them to go into a frenzy for lack of material. It seems to me that as far as where we are in history, the writing is on the wall. If you ask yourself the famous Republican question "Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?" and answered with a simple "tes" or "no" it makes the choice before us very clear. McCain can't run from his own party or from his connection to the Bush administration. Those who somehow believe that he will be somehow different are deluding themselves.
