Does that equal what Jim Johnson of Obaqma's campaign took FannieMae for or the $90 million to Franklin Raines? No. How about Senator Obama himself? Or Christopher Dodd? You always see the stye in McCain's eye while ignoring the rafter in Obama's. Fair? Honest? Well not really, but then who would expect it from Newsweek. Might be why circulation suffers.

Newsweek is about as balanced as The View is on TV.

Eight liberal writers to three conservative. But as you said, what else would one expect from Newsweek.

This is another example of a desperate man with misplaced loyalties. We are entitled to respect as citizens. McCain has repeatedly shown he puts his friends first, good or bad.

The right thing for Davis to do is come clean and resign, lest he tars Macain with a coruption charge. Mccain do the honorable thing clean your staff.

I am not a McCain supporter, but it sounds like Davis didn't really do much to collect his retainer from Freddie Mac.

Right.. he was sucking up the free money because of his ' Access ' to McCain. I ask you, exactly what does that suggest.. At the minimum it is unethical, and guess what, he IS a very integral part of the hypocritical, two faced, entitlement focused MCCain campaign. Words (McCain's and his ilk) are cheap. When you look behind the curtain at the actions you see a rotting carcass full of lies, deceit, greed, grand standing and arrogance called the McCain campaign...

WHAT WAS JOE BIDENS INVOLVEMENT WITH FANNIE AND FREDDIE???

  • Posted By: cariboululu @ 09/27/2008 8:20:29 PM

Pot, meet kettle. It's all about access, access, access and legislative favors. McCain's hypocrisy runs rampant.

It's instructive how the kind of attacks McCain's done bring attention to his involvement in the same matters. Do you suppose that's one of the benefits of the Obamas pattern of not attacking others? Nobody's perfect, everybody's human, and McCain's righteous assaults (Palin's too) are realy reflections of their doings rather than insights into their target.

Nicely put. Talk about the Jungian shadow.

McCain needs to come clean on this. It is clear that his campaign manager was being paid to do nothing but influence him in the middle of a huge crisis. When did 15k a month become nothing. I would love to make 15k a month for not doing anything.

    Part 1

Is John McCain a once in a lifetime politician?

I came to know about John McCain in 2000 and have been following his political career since. Let me also say that I supported Gore in 2000 and Kerry (who later turned out to be rather disappointing) in 2004.

The one thing that always made McCain stand out from other politicians is his willingness to do what he considered the "right thing" at the cost of damage to his political career. Here are a few examples:

    1) In 2004 he opposed a federal ban on gay marriage.
Why? He said it was not something for the federal government to be involved in.
Impact? Lost support of an important part of the Republican primary voters.

    2) In 2007 he teamed up with Kennedy to write an immigration bill.
Why? He said that the reality of the situation is that illegal immigrants would not be expelled, instead stricter border controls were needed.
Impact? Besides the Clintons, Kennedy is probably the least popular liberal politician for many Republican primary voters. McCain's probability of winning the nomination fell to a low of 6% on intrade.com

    3) 2005 onwards McCain was the leading opponent of torture in the Senate.
Why? Torture is not worthy of America.
Impact? It was seen as going against Bush/Cheney's position on the matter.

???Is John McCain a once in a lifetime politician???? continued

    4) Change? You want REAL CHANGE? Washington has long been seen as a place where lobbyists and politicians form "mutually beneficial" relationships with each other at the cost of the ordinary citizens. The most important legislation that tried to break the corrupt relationships was the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA, McCain???Feingold Act, Pub.L. 107-155, 116 Stat. 81, enacted 2002-03-27).
Impact? As Feingold put it, the bill made both McCain and Feingold so unpopular with their fellow legislators, that they only could lunch with each other.

    5) The Iraq Surge. When the Democrats were trying to cut off funding for Iraq in 2007, and supporters of continuing the war were hedging their positions, McCain clearly came out in support of the surge. Why? McCain said that losing the war would create chaos in the mid-East and prove costly to America. As he said "I would rather lose a campaign than lose a war". Impact? In 2007 the surge was quite against the public sentiment.

    6) And of course his refusal to end his captivity early, an offer the Viet Cong made to an admiral's son.
Why? He wanted same treatment as his fellow captives.
    Impact? Continued captivity.

    End Part 1

so the "firm" tha Davis worked for got money but not Davis directly? How about the adivsor for Sen. Obama that took million from the same firms and was found to do illegally that he had to pay some of it back? Do you report on that? Since when or people who won't give names trusted when you use the name Begala who has lied since he worked with the Clintons and continues to this day. Bad press from bad people.
