In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future. I follow a economist named bob proctor who has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly. He perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown ,and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years Is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression. Banks in the US are going under one after the other. Country wide the largest morgage bank in the world Bear Stearns and Lehman brothers , and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms. And now Fanny and Freddy which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States. The goverment took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash And we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before The future of these companies will fall into the hands of our next president
Bush just like Mcain doesn't understand the economy.

That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it
He does not understand exactly what is broken. Its no surprise that he doesnt. The people that make up these
securities use complex math models very few people understand.
Bush and mccain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.

Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks take risks with all of our future.
Now Phil Graham is the head of mccains economic policy ,and mccain wants to make him the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time bush met with his economic advisors was in march. He either didnt realize or didnt care that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy in our lifetime.
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as bush has done mccain would be
incredibly worse because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like bush did but a tanking economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 deficit. Most of Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will do get what you have always __________

When it comes to policy bush and mccain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?

The chairman of mcains campaign recently said that people don't vote on issues

they vote on a personality composite which means. He is trying to sell you personality instead of results.
He believes people will vote against there own self interests.

Lets teach him we are smarter then that .
Hold them accountable now while it will still help
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

Yes, unfortunate personalities can not accept their circumstances and move on. But without affirmative action where would Clarence Thomas be? Much as I wish he were in fact there, for him to resent and attempt to destroy the ladder that made his career possible simply proves him to be the nonentity that does get promoted unjustly in any system. May I suggest he renounce his position and take the place he truly deserves, perhaps as a high school assistant principal. God help the students.

Thomas is about as qualified to sit on the Supreme Court as Palin is to be President.

  • Posted By: mart7lin @ 09/29/2008 2:05:32 AM

I kind of get what you are saying, but the Palin choice mainly reflects McCain's desire to be president at any cost more than it does an attempt at diversity. This was a strategic decision and a huge gamble.

Have you read anything by George Will, David Brooks or David Frum? These are journalists who are not democrats...this is not a democratic versus republican issue. This is an issue that everyone should be concerned, and not have your head in the sand.

Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party. Parker's comments follow those by prominent conservatives David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum who have all publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president.

And the above list of conservative commentators are some of the most prominent on the right side of the spectrum. Considering the facts and the commentary of these well respected journalists posting what they did, can you still look someone in eye, knowing that Palin could become POTUS, and say without hesitation, or trepidation that she is ready right now to lead our country after seeing Couric's interview with Palin?

And don't give the BS that Couric was hard on her. If you saw the debate, Couric's questions were easier than the ones that both McCain and Obama were given. So if you think Couric was hard, what is she going to do when she has her face-off with Biden? Case closed.

Did you ever consider there is more than one 'league' at work here? Who is out of whom's league?

        • Posted By: The Dominican @ 09/28/2008 11:34:12 PM

Democracy: Every citizen has the right to be presidet f the country, Maybe she is not well prepared it's true but that cannot give away the posiblity that she can do a good job. The best managers put the right guys int he positions the cannot handled very well, without loosing foucs of the target, the average american is represented on Palin.

Come on , I'm a middle aged woman and I'm here to tell you that no one is judgeing palin on her woman statis or sexist! Palin is not ready to be a Governor of any larger state than she dealing with now! she's uninformed, and uneducated on the national stage! she's over her head, and is to stubborn or ignorant to realize it! The womans interviews shows talking points have been crammed into her head, an she can't even keep them straighten out! As a woman I feel sad for her, because she's been a object of USED Chewing gum by the Republican party and Mccain an she's being chewed up and will be spit out like a piece of spoiled fruit! She wouldn't be 4 more years of the same, because her and mccains views aren't the same on a lot of thier programs! They can't even agree or see the same out come on a lot of things! The vetting of this woman was invisable, if it even took place at all. Mccain ruthlessly put american in danger with this pick! We would like a woman or V.P. yes certainly, but don't insult our intelligence with this pick! Women stop yelling sexist or racist or anything alse! It's simply that this lady is a poor and unethical choice for V.P! It's nothing more than that, don't keep trying to make it more!

Your commentary is less intelligent than anything I've heard from Palin or the Republicans. Because Palin had a bad interview means that she is a knownothing? I think there is a lot of jealously among women and it is a problem integral to your gender. I am male and personally do not understand it. You have only recited MSM talking points and did not add anything new. You wallow jealousy that this remarkable woman went from PTA, Mayor, Governor, and VP of the USA. You can whine all you want, but you will never be the woman that Sarah Palin is.

      • Posted By: rpearlston @ 09/28/2008 3:58:44 PM

Personally, I 'm also a middle-aged woman, and I wouldn't WANT to be the woman that Sarah Palin is, nor would any other woman that I know want that for themselves. That's because she's completely unqualified for any office in which she has or may serve, has a fluff university degree, thinks science is evil and has so low an opinion of all women that she forced rape victims to be victimized again by having them pay for their rape kits, and would insist that no woman ever be allowed the right to make reproductive choices of theri own. Where does that mysogyny end?. And why would any woman every want to be like her in a way, shape or form?

Stop being fooled by the package and take a good, hard look at what that package contains. That is, if you can possibly tolerate the stench of her attitude. That's why no woman would ever want to be her. And that's what you fail to understand about Ms Palin and about women.

You purposely misstate Thomas's complaint entirely. He believes he is and has been qualified for his various positions, including the one he now holds--and many of Americans agree. He complains that he is treated (or at least perceived) as not qualified for two reasons, 1) as with most affirmative action recipients, because he was given the "opportunity" due only to his race, and 2) more importantly and more perniciously, because he has shown his ingratitude for the special treatment he received by refusing to share and to promote the beliefs held by his affirmative action benefactors.

As for Sarah Palin, you cite no evidence that she has benefitted in any real from affirmative action (surely being a beauty queen 24 years ago does not count). Her political accomplishments occurred quite apart from anything her husband had done politically and in a state known for tough, frontier women. She is much more the ???happy warrior??? for conservatism. She does little to complain about the abuse and scorn that have been heaped on her by her feminist and affirmative action detractors???but she and her running mate have wisely chosen to minimize the public scorning via mainstream media so-called interviews.

So where are you going with this? Because these two people, ambitious, arrogant and self-absorbed, are in positions to actually or potentially harm our citizenry, and who use criticism of their ideology and actions - which are terrible and terrifying in the opinion of millions - as evidence of racism or sexism, we should stop working on the goals of equality and justice for all? This is a very twisted analysis. - Rev. Mary

I would take issue with your analogy of Justice Thomas and Gov. Palin. The problems that the Republican Vice Presidential candidate faces are due, in no small part, to her lack of knowledge about the vital issues confronting this nation. Justice Thomas, if perhaps misguidedly, has expressed his opinions in thoughtful and coherent arguments. Gov. Palin has shown neither such thoughtfulness nor coherence of thought.

Carl said, "The problems that the Republican Vice Presidential candidate faces are due, in no small part, to her lack of knowledge about the vital issues confronting this nation...Gov. Palin has shown neither such thoughtfulness nor coherence of thought." -- Carl, so how much international exposure did Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter have before they were elected? Leftist bigotry amazes me, speaking of a "lack of coherent thought." Opposing someone because of their religion is un-American, correct, Dr No?!!

Hilarious how the Media has Palin Fever on the brain. She could have cured cancer & the Media would somehow figure out how to turn that into a negative. You do raise an interesting point, though, on Affirmative Action (AA). We know that Barack Obama did not graduate with any merit from Colombia, and therefore he got into Harvard because of his race. Further, he did not grade onto the Harvard Law rReview, he was voted on via his essay. So could you PLEASE do an expose' on how AA could create a generation of unfit leaders, by way of substandard abilities?!! I mean, would you go to a surgeon for a malignant brain tumor if you knew he would have never gotten into school without being a member of a special class, because of his inferior abilities?!!

Nice try, but what about the 'lesson' of Obama? Is he not just another 'affirmative action' candidate? Show me the 'substance' that makes him a legitimate contender for the presidency? A good speech? Where are his accomplishments? Two books. Where is his successful legislation? Oh yeah, he writes books and gives speeches, but does not write laws. Obama is where he is solely because of the ???Democratic version??? of affirmative action. Ms. Lithwick???s ???caution??? is just an overt criticism of the ???Republican version.??? If she were being completely honest, she would admit that Obama is as 'blindly supported' by a lot of people like Ms. Lithwick (perhaps more so, because that is how they think) as any other candidate with diverse characteristics Republicans might put forward for whatever office. The underlying issue in this column are not 'diversity' or 'affirmative action'--it is about the ideology of the people she is criticizing. She agrees with Obama-style ???affirmative action,??? but not Palin-style because of she agrees with his politics. It is that simple.

You make it seem that Sarah Palin was the only woman that McCain could have chosen. There are endless Republican women who have been working in Congress who have endless experience. All of us--including women--can distinguish between someone who is qualified and someone who is not. Sarah Palin is simply not qualified. And she was picked not only because she was a woman but because of her social conservative positions. And even here--there are other Republican women who know more about national and international economic issues and foreign affairs than Palin.

Her answers in the interviews remind me of something...let's see...

"I personally believe the US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education, like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like, such as -- and I believe that they should. Our education over here in the US should help the US -- should help South Africa and should help the Iraq, and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children.... It's her lack of clarity, her poor logic, that has her tripped up. At least, a move toward diversity should not prevent usp from being hones.t

You have no idea whether Palin and Thomas believe that people who dislike them are racist and sexist because you have never interviewed them, and they have never made these statements. You are making up inciteful things to attribute to conservative thinkers, which brings your journalistic integrity into question. Your comments are unsupported, unsubstantiated and completely out of line. Your obvious bias regarding the Harvard lawyer are ridiculous, as he is the true beneficiary of affirmative action. DO NOT attribute sexist and racist views to Clarence Thomas and Sarah Palin without doing more research to back up your divisive claims.

Affirmative action - the same should be said about Barack Obama. He is the least experienced man running for president in history....

Sarah Palin is a SELF MADE Woman unlike Hillary who road into the US Senate on Bill Clintons name and legacy. Without Bill nobody would know who Hillary Rodham is today.
