I would add Palin has unmasked the intellectual bankruptcy of liberalism. She has shown that the "woman's movement" is no such thing. it is simply another special interest group with the Democratic Party. A true feminist, Camille Paglia, wrote about this in Salon.

Movement feminists do not admit just anyone into their club. Palin threatned their control of the debate and the movement and thus she was set upon in an unprecented feeding frenzy.

Democrats set an affirmative action time-bomb and now it's gone off, welfare-backed mortgages has collapsed!

Threatening lawsuits, Clinton's Federal Reserve demanded that banks treat welfare payments and unemployment benefits as valid income sources to qualify for a mortgage. That isn't a joke -- it's a fact.

Under Clinton, the entire federal government put massive pressure on banks to grant more mortgages to the poor and minorities. Clinton's secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Andrew Cuomo, investigated Fannie Mae for racial discrimination and proposed that 50 percent of Fannie Mae's and Freddie Mac's portfolio be made up of loans to low- to moderate-income borrowers by the year 2001.

Instead of looking at "outdated criteria," such as the mortgage applicant's credit history and ability to make a down payment, banks were encouraged to consider nontraditional measures of credit-worthiness, such as only speaking Spanish or having a child named "DeWayne."

When Democrats controlled both the executive and legislative branches, political correctness was given a veto over sound business practices.

In 1999, liberals were bragging about extending affirmative action to the financial sector. Los Angeles Times reporter Ron Brownstein hailed the Clinton administration's affirmative action lending policies as one of the "hidden success stories" of the Clinton administration, saying that "black and Latino homeownership has surged to the highest level ever recorded."

Meanwhile, economists were screaming from the rooftops that the Democrats were forcing mortgage lenders to issue loans that would fail the moment the housing market slowed and deadbeat borrowers couldn't get out of their loans by selling their houses.

A decade later, the housing bubble burst and, as predicted, food-stamp-backed mortgages collapsed. Democrats set an affirmative action time-bomb and now it's gone off.

In Bush's first year in office, the White House chief economist, N. Gregory Mankiw, warned that the government's "implicit subsidy" of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, combined with loans to unqualified borrowers, was creating a huge risk for the entire financial system.

Rep. Barney Frank denounced Mankiw, saying he had no "concern about housing." How dare you oppose suicidal loans to people who can't repay them! The New York Times reported that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were "under heavy assault by the Republicans," but these entities still had "important political allies" in the Democrats.

Now, at a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, middle-class taxpayers are going to be forced to bail out the Democrats' two most important constituent groups: rich Wall Street bankers and welfare recipients.

Political correctness had already ruined education, sports, science and entertainment. But it took a Democratic president with a Democratic congress for political correctness to wreck the financ

What a world we live in: Liberals attack affirmative action while shipping nearly a trillion dollars to Wall Street over Republican objections!

It seems now that Poltics is the be all and end all and that fundamental principlas are to be discarded for the sake of electoral opportunity.

This is truly a remarkable revelation, except you have include the wrong person. You should have replaced Palin with Obama. Palin, unlike Obama rose to the Alaska politics though sheer courage and fortitude. I don't believe she was elected governor because she is a woman. Obama, on the contrary rode the affirmative action bandwagon through his entire life (whereelse affirmative action is more advcated than the Ivy Leagues). Oh, by the way, Obama's wife as well. The sad thing is that their children, privileged as they are, will ride the same gravy train of affirmative action. I would be curious to see if someone can publish the SAT scores and LSAT scores of te Obamas.

I like how the new "diversity" does not take in to account actual ethnicity or gender but the criteria of an elitist establishment based in a few states in the northeast, LA, and SF wh think they have a monopoly on ideas. The USA is predominately rural and conservative yet the elites have utter disdain for the vast majority of Americans. If you don't like it here then maybe you will be happier in Canada, NZ, or Europe... you choose, nobody will miss you.

This is a great article but I feel that the mistake it makes is present is to present Gov. Palin and Clarence Thomas as examples of those who believe the results of diversity can be counter productive.
As you stated Thomas has benefittted from affrimitive action and not once did he refuse to accept a position that he was not qualified for, from his appoinments in the Reagan administration to a appellate position and the Supreme Court.
Instead of being angry at those who has appointed to these positions that he was unqualified for, he directs his anger at those who promote progams that open the process to minorites and woman who are qualified for these opportunties.Thomas suffers from a malady of self hate that can only be helped from a psychological level and not a argument about diversity.
Sharah Palin also is a person who has benefitted from affrimitive action and like Thomas should have refused and pointed out there were more qualified woman for the job than her.I for this position. But again you point the finger at the wrong party in this matter. John McCain made the choice so he should be the one that the
voters judge for this pitiful choice.
You and others point to the selection of Thomas and Palin as what happens when there is diversity.
But the argument is bogus because there were qualifed African-Americans who could have been appointed to the Supeme Court and McCain could have selected a qualified woman vice-president candidate.

The great late Paul Brown team wasbeing driven to a game when the bus driver got lost and delivered the team late to its hotel and caused them to missed a scheduled meal before game. The bus driver was said to have told him not to be made at him because he had never been there before, so don;t be mad at him . Brown was to have repied "I not mad at you-I'm mad at who hired you".
When we find people like Thomas and Palin we should be mad at who hired them and make them pay the price fro abusing the use of affrimitive action.

I found this article to be racist. I am offended.

Sarah Palin makes Joe Biden look like a gaffe machine. Who can forget Biden's offensive remarks about Obama being clean or Indian americans are found in doughnut shops and 7-Eleven.

Liberal racism and sexism is the worst kind. It assumes they are coming from a high minded place when really they belong in the gutter with David Duke.

I found this a highly informative and balanced article.
    Who can argue?
Governor Palin AND Senator Hillary Clinton were both treated by their male counterparts- and the voters- in sexist ways.
But I never thought to equate it to affirmative action.

Now- in these days and times- don't EVEN breathe that Obama has achieved his status as the first Black man to run for the President- by Any FORM of Affirmative Action throughout HIS entire (but thin) career.
    Don't even THINK that!

McCain-Palin is NOT 4 more years of the same,
as evidenced by John McCain's return to Washington to oversee all the Democrat coyotes in the henhouse- overseeing this "bailout."

And experience is the key here.
We don't need- no CAN'T AFFORD- to have a dangerous Socialist in the White House.
