In a sick pathetic way the the misdeeds caused by the 19 murderers of 9/11 have worked!
We needed our leaders to see them for who they were- they were murders of a small religious alliance hell bent on assassination. Their number one goal was to destroy our economy and divide our nation!

We needed our leaders to exemplify diplomacy, composure, cunning and the understanding that "terrorism evokes the opposites of such qualities!"

Bottom line 9/11 happened under GOP watch...

To which the Bush/GOP circus began...

Iraq was contrived through subversion and duplicity...

Afghanistan, the real war is worse off today then it was five years ago...
the economy is a free fall...
the energy bill for the last eight years, well there was no bill...
Katrina, lack of oversight for the mortgage and banking meltdown, record bankruptcies, war profiteering
record federal deficit , no health care, voted not to extend benefits to veterans???
    All this under the Bush/GOP!

Conservatism is a dismal failure, the proof is in your house equity, your bank accounts, your paycheck, it???s on Wallstreet, its on the shelves of your supermarket, its on the corner gas station, its in Arlington and it is still on on the streets and in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan.

It???s in the defiance of Pakistan, Russia, Venezuela, North Korea and now China!

And the old personal song and dance about character, vision and dignity played out across the nation. ???Bush has character, he has vision, he is honest, experienced!???
We all know that was an aberration.
And we all know conservatives want to plug in the same theology the same ideology from yet another legislator that represents the same betrayal, greed and the duplicity that has buried us to this point!

War is won or lost by the rightness and decency of the participants!
As the greatness of a nations history goes we have never lost a war when we were right but now we have lost wars because we were ideologically wrong!

It???s not just about strength its about wisdom and justice.
American qualities that have been inactive during the past seven plus years of conservative politics!
Qualities that Bush/Mccain and his neocon browbeaters never did grasp!

We will be living with his these failures for generations to come! There are no trees high enough for such people!

For 1000th time, proven time lines show that 9/11 was planned and implemented during the Clinton years, long before Bush took office.

The current financial mess we're also has it's roots in Bill Clinton, who passed legislation that forced lenders into unsafe lending practices. Both Bush and McCain fought for reform legislation in 2003 and 2005, but was stopped by Democrats Chris Dodd and Barney Frank.

The rest of your drivel isn't worth commenting on.

Please check your facts before making an asinine post like this.

It happened eight months into Bush's presidency. it happened on his watch, the buck stops there.

I knew you'd show up. Only in your forever closed, liberal mind.

Your left-wing denials prove the adage that "facts are the enemy of truth".

So I take it that Bush's and McCain's fanatical clinging to the teat of deregulation over the last few years... helped?

            • Posted By: Pallisor @ 10/02/2008 5:39:40 PM

Blame your bosom liberal buddies Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for blocking Bush legislation to stop the mess.

Barney Frank, 2003 in response to Bush administration overhaul plan.

"These two entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not facing any kind of financial crisis, the more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing".

              John McCain, 2005

"I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole".

Obama and his democrat buddies never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Never has this been more true than now in the face of a financial crisis in this country. A financial crisis Clinton
his party created. And Obama, the candidate of change, was in bed with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac yet he criticizes John McCain, who along with George Bush, tried to fix the problem.

                Terrific response, and spot on.

Any minute now BenCrap and his liberal buddies will come back with something completely off-subject that will include meaningless code-words like Halliburton, Katrina, and their favorite of all, calling anyone who disagrees with them a racist.

                • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/03/2008 2:28:11 AM

BTW, why would disagreement have anything to do with racism?

Out of all my posts so far in Newsweek, I don't believe I've even broached the subject of civil rights and race relations.

On the other hand, your obsession with the question of race is concerning.

                • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/03/2008 2:25:50 AM

                  Jimbo! I was feeling lonely.

                  Actually, try on "Keating 5"...

Or take your pick of McCain's support of deregulation legislation...

Or the fact that McCain wholeheartedly denied funding to clean energy initiatives until it became a politically untenable position, thus affecting his ability to run for POTUS.

Fact, the Manhattan Project-level clean energy initiative Obama has detailed will generate whole industries' worth of new jobs. That will raise the middle class and America can bail itself out, with no cockamamie schemes.

Who needs to talk about Katrina? I'd rather talk about the kick-a-thon my school's doing to support some of the families affected by Hurricane Ike.

All we need to know about how Obama would govern is to look at his record in Illinois. Read his campaign promises when he ran for Senator they were filled with empty promises of change and reform he never followed through on. Illinois has had one of the worst economies for many years. Young people leave the state in droves. There schools are some of the worst in the nation. They have high crime and a murder rate higher than New York. Lovely campaign speeches mean nothing when a person has no record of action. How could Obama fix the country when he couldn't even do anything to fix his own state. Do the research on his background for yourself, be an informed voter.

    • Posted By: it's about the future @ 10/02/2008 5:13:31 PM

      You are misinformed.
Obama's record shows an very impressive legislative background as an Illinois Senator.
As an Illinois State Senator, he sponsored or co-sponsored over 200 bills and resolutions which were passed or adopted between 03 and 05 into the IL Legislature. Some were voted on after he left for the
      US Senate.
Obama introduced over 800 bills between 1998 and 2004.
Bills passed include: Equal Pay Act; Senior Citizen Prescription Drug Discount Act; Video Taped Interrogation Act; Hospital Report Card Act and
      Chicago Educational Reform Act.
Of these bills, Obama was the primary sponsor for more than 40 bills and resolutions adopted into Illinois
      State Law 03/05.

John McCain supported the House bailout bill.
A whopping 65 out of 199 Republicans voted for the bill and followed McCain's lead.

So you ready for another war president?

When asked during recent debate, "how would he fix the current economic crisis?" Mccain responded,
"I will freeze all spending except the military, pentagon and the veterans!"

There is intolerable irony here! Is our nation an imperialistic state, a fascist authoritarian rule?
This sounds very simialr to Hugo Chaves as something he would spew off!
The words of a dark dictator- a war monger!

Remember these are the words of a man that strongly advocated articles of war despite weak intelligence!
His so called ???Maverick fundamentalism??? shoot from the hip policies, that were in defiance of "other significant intelligence"- "there were no WMD in Iraq!"

These are words from a man that would detract oversight and regulations from our nations finanacial culture for 26 years while it was driven into dust by elitists, plutocrats and greed driven non-American dregs!

"Real change" starts with dumping the GOP ticket!

Oddly enough rupert and rush never bring up things that contradict their 'fair and balanced' spins. So, often one can not source the extreme right-wing propaganda sites you restrict yourselve to. Economic success doesn't equate to taking the original ideas of the constitution to heart. Republicans would happily do away with much of the constitution.

James Madison hid the minutes of the Constitutional meetings for years in a private archive because he didn't want the wealthy American civilians to learn that their wealthy representatives were constructing a country for everybody and not just the wealthy.

I suppose given how civics isn't taught anymore, it's easy to forget that the original American patriots had a great deal of compassion for their fellow man, much more than present Republicans. Nothing personal.

As regards my patriotism, I put up two 20sqft flags at my work to remind everyone that country comes first.

Historically speaking, waving a flag in someone's face while you insult them is not patriotism.

We produce raw materials, ship them off to be converted into finished products and then buy them back. Pretty much the definition of a third-world country. Add to that the incredible transfer of our wealth for to buy oil and to service the 10 trillion dollar debt....

How does a conservative republican define patriotism?

PBS anchor Gwen Ifill, who is moderating Thursday night's vice-presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, is releasing a new book on Barack Obama, raising questions about her objectivity. The book, "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama," is due to be released about the same time the next president takes the oath of office.

During the Republican National Convention, the PBS ombudsman fielded numerous complaints about Ifill???s coverage of Sarah Palin???s speech. Wrote Brian Meyers of Granby, Ct.: ???I was appalled by Gwen Ifill???s commentary directly following Gov. Sarah Palin???s speech. Her attitude was dismissive and the look on her face was one of disgust. Clearly, she was agitated by what most critics view as a well-delivered speech. It is quite obvious that Ms. Ifill supports Obama as she struggled to say anything redemptive about Gov. Palin???s performance. I am disappointed in Ms. Ifill???s complete disregard for journalistic objectivity.???

And now for the real truth.
The Democratic leadership in the House worked out a deal with the Republican leadership where both parties woud ante up 50% of their membership to vote Aye on the bill. Undoubtedly this was to give cover on both sides for representatives who were facing diificulties at home supporting the president's bill. The Republicans reneged on the deal. They and their fearless leader McCain could only get 1/3rd to vote for the bill. The Democrats honored their agreement and then some. 2/3rd of them voted Aye. If the majority of Republicans continue to think of themselves first and the country second, then the Democrats can and will pass the bill with the few remaining Republicans who get it.

The real truth? Where do you get all this opinionated horsesh!t?

      • Posted By: neos @ 09/30/2008 7:15:58 PM

This is a grownup site, mostly. If you have something to offer that in any way disproves what i have written, estate your case and i will be happy to reconsidered my opinionated HS. Perhaps Faux News did not give you the details of the vote but it went as I said. In fact I remember Fix News repeatedly throwing up the byline that '95 Democrats vote against bailout', but oddly enough they never put one up saying 133 Republicans voted against the bailout. Hmmm..

        • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/30/2008 8:45:20 PM

Yes, it's a grown up site. So why don't you act like one. You have nothing to offer but your opinionated, nonsensical bulls!t.... like the site you posted.

Your left-wing denials prove the adage that "facts are the enemy of truth".

Here's a couple of quotes from the Washington Post artical:

"The vote, scheduled for 15 minutes, was called shortly before 1:25 p.m. But leaders of both parties, anxiously eyeing the vote tally on electronic boards on the north and south ends of the chamber, realized they were behind.

Pelosi pleaded with members of the Congressional Black Caucus who had voted against the bill, including Reps. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and Jesse L. Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.). Neither Lewis or Jackson would budge.

A dejected Boehner huddled with Hoyer, Blunt and Emanuel, who delivered a possible deal. If Blunt could round up a handful of GOP votes, Democrats could do the rest.

But Boehner couldn't find enough, and he said it wasn't his style to "break arms."

Lawmakers ran out of time; no more votes could be found. A few of them switched their votes to no, making the final vote 228-205".

The only "possible deal" was during the actual vote, there was no reneging.

You're reading something into this that was never there.

                          • Posted By: neos @ 10/01/2008 6:53:22 PM

You omitted the part where Pelosi had made it clear to Boehner that his party would have to ante up 85-100 votes. Reading is fundamental

                            • Posted By: Pallisor @ 10/01/2008 8:01:25 PM

Oh, geez! Pelosi made it clear? lmao! Did she "make it clear" to the 95 members of her own party that voted no?

Common sense is fundamental! Trade your hypocrisy in and get some.

No, because they were the less than 50% of Democrats who did not have to support the bill. Are you being deliberately obtuse??

I've followed this thread... Your post makes no sense. I read the article, and there wasn't anything about the "deal" you originally suggested made before the vote. The only time a deal was mentioned was when Pelosi, as well as Boehner tried to get additional votes during the vote but neither could get it done.

Obtuse? Neos, all one needs to do is read your posts to see you wrote the book on it!

Unfortunately all the other references to the deal were reported on the mainstream media that rush has told that you don't believe in. Oddly enough rupert and rush never brought it up. So, I can not source the extreme right-wing propaganda sites you restrict yourselves to. Therefore you will never see the light. Catch 22, donchaknow!!

And it says it all. How House Republicans failed to support John McCain and George Bush on a Republican sponsored bill. Democrats put country first and supported the president in a time of crisis.

                • Posted By: Pallisor @ 10/01/2008 7:59:09 PM

Democrats put country first? Yeah, except for the 95 of them that voted no. You conveniently forgot about them, right?

You libs never cease to amaze me.

I had already seen those numbers. It certainly does not say anything about any deal! You keep saying there was one....

Most that voted against this did so because of negative calls from their constituents, not because they reneged on any "deal". Even Pelosi was getting massive amounts of calls saying no to the bailout.

(Continued from my post above - Obamas International Socialist Connections)

    (Part 2 of 2)

Democrats may try to pass it quickly anyway, in order to give Obama a precious legislative victory that he could run on. (Thank God that didnt happen or did it?; is the MSN just not promoting this knowing it would not be a fully supported win in minds of all his voters- sharenews?)

If the GLOBAL POVERTY ACT PASSES should Obama push it should he become POTUS, it would cost $800 billion dollars annually TO TAXPAYERS . . . WHICH SHAKES OUT TO BE $2,500 PER HOUSEHOLD).

Another group associated with the SI is the Party of European Socialists (PES), which heard from HOWARD DEAN, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, back in 2006. Deans speech is posted on the official Democratic Party website, although the EUROPEAN SOCIALIST PARTIES are referred to as PROGRESSIVE. Democrats, Dean said, want to be GOOD CITIZENS OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY. He spoke at a session on Global Challenges for Progressive Politics.

    DEANs speech mentioned above:
    http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/12/keynote_address.php

NO WONDER all of the main leader countries OVER THE POND are cheering for Obama and were out there in masses when he made his TOUR oversees. . . They want those free handouts at our (US citizens mandatory expense should a bill like the Global Poverty Act pass should he get into the White House) expense. - sharenews

The socialist connections of Obama and the Democratic Party have certainly NOT been featured in the Washington Post columns of Harold Meyerson, who happens not only to be a member but a VICE-CHAIR of the DSA. Meyerson, the subject of our 2005 column, A Socialist at the Washington Post, has PRAISED CONVICTED INSIDE-TRADER GEORGE SOROS for MANIPULATING CAMPAIGN FINANCE LAWS TO BENEFIT THE FAR-LEFT ELEMENTS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Obamas success in the Democratic presidential primaries and caucuses is FURTHER EVIDENCE OF SOROS SUCCESS. Indeed, Soros has financially contributed to the Obama campaign.

Obama is where he is because of the Chicago Machine and it is the get-out-the-vote Chicago Machine that will win him the election in November. All he has to do is keep his cool until then. After, the people will learn of the 140 Billion dollars included in the bail-out that goes to Acorn so more bad loans can be made and we can go through another bail out down the road.

    • Posted By: neos @ 10/01/2008 10:04:57 AM

OK. Number 1, the presidential race is held in other places than Chicago, dontcha know.
Second if you are saying that the candidate who gets more votes than his opponent wins the election, well congratulations, you're getting the idea!!
