As President, I will uphold the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun-owners, hunters, and sportsmen. I know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact common-sense laws, like closing the gun show loophole and improving our background check system, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Today's decision reinforces that if we act responsibly, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.

Will He or Won't He?
At a campaign stop in Duryea, Pa., in early September, Obama again attempted to reassure gun owners that he doesn't intend to take away their guns, and couldn't even if he wanted to:

Obama (Sept. 5): The bottom line is this. If you've got a rifle, you've got a shotgun, you've got a gun in your house, I'm not taking it away. Alright? So they can keep on talking about it but this is just not true. And by the way, here's another thing you've got to understand. Even if I wanted to take it away, I couldn't get it done. I don't have the votes in Congress.

Clarification: This story originally included a reference to "assault weapons – like those carried on battlefields."  A retired military arms instructor wrote to say that the proper term for the battlefield weapon is "assault rifle." Congress included certain types of both rifles and shotguns under its now-expired ban on "assault weapons."

Lace up those working boots and don't forget your gloves America, because Uncle Sam wants you to volunteer in your community. Earlier today while speaking at the community service forum, President Obama stated, "While there's plenty that government can and must do ... there's a lot that government can't and shouldn't do and that's where active, engaged citizens come in." Now I'm not proclaiming community service isn't a righteous deed to partake in, my issue is that of the government. President Obama should be relaying to Congress and his administration, that upholding the law and serving the people is the essence of liberty. Obama should record, then playback his own messages, and realize that there are numerous things the government can???t fulfill, such as running a successful health care operation. Or the ability to promote democracy to individuals that don't want anything to do with western civilization. Helping your neighbor and your community, promote peace and prosperity throughout the country. The one issue that keeps this country divided, is the importance placed on political party affiliation. We are all one, and a donkey and an elephant shouldn't keep us apart. Staying righteous to your country and its people is of the upmost importance of our political leaders. I tend to believe this. I also think that the 2nd Amendment flaming is a way to keep us Southerners completely freaked out about the agenda for 70+ days. I got push-polled on this and abortion even after the election. Someone is paying for this stuff.

    Jim Johnson, you're an idiot.
Are you still reading your anti-communism propaganda? Beware the Reds.
"(National Socialism)"?! That doesn't even makes sense! The Nazis were fascists. Most countries in Europe exhibit some form of your dreaded socialism, in the form of nationalized healthcare and education. I thought it amounted to common decency, ethics and morals. If one cannot feed himself, you help him. If one cannot afford medicine, you help him, and so on.

And I like your point about the virtuous capitalists. Thank god for the good fat cats on wall street in all their virtue. Definitely no vice in their greed that lead to this crisis. Because "business ethics" is not an oxymoron.
