Oops. This was a bipartisan bill-o-cide. The perpetrators, however, have done us all a big favor. This bill did not merit passing.

It violates all common sense. It throws good money after bad and it will enrich a host of unscrupulous operators who have profited handsomely off this mess. Try again.

    Back to teh drawing baord.

Actually we don't know its bad money. That's the crux of the problem, bankers don't know what debt insturments they are holding are worth. They could be worth nothing, but that's highly unlikely. After all, people that can pay their mortgages tend to do so, as living under bridges is drafty and wet. So its altogether possible that the Treasury can turn a profit on its purchases after all the FUD is over with.

Well, we always say that risk is what makes us great. Risk gives us the opportunity to prosper in great quantities. Risk means that one's fortune can also diminish sharply at odd moments. Stock market fortunes are applauded for being heroic because of the risk that ones investment might disappear in the market due to adverse circumstances. Well, here she is. Risk.

Why are all of you liberals incapable of doing simple math? If more Democrats voted for the bill, it wouldn't matter how the Republicans voted because MAJORITY wins. Forty, as in 4-0, percent of the Dems voted no. Start looking at your own party and stop blaming the Republicans.

Simple is the right word. On a hot potato like this, NO party gets 100% of their members to vote aye, unless the answer is a socially expected no brainer, like the declaration of war on Japan after Pearl Harbor. Anything where results are as unclear as this bailout just prior to an election, well 60% is very good. Only a simple kind of man (apologies to Lynard Skynard) would imagine differently.

Another nightmare week for McCain - he claims "leadership" on the financial crisis and boom every deal he touches collapses!

Everyone should stop blowing hot air and pray...seriously pray.

You do the math, dbdzea (whatever). Where in the world did you hear such nonsense? There was no deal. I assume your daddy & obama's daddy, George Soros, and moveon.org told you that. Please verify.

I think it was phrased as Wall Street vs. Main Street and Main Street, lacking a sense that Wall Street gave two hoots about them, balked and made a lot of noise. This being election time, that frightened Congress. The waning power of Bush and the instability of McCain had a further deteriorating effect on the willingness of reps to take risks even if the bigger risk was to do nothing.

o yes, die. For playing for Obama. Different ways. First by manipulating gas prices and trying to block drilling. Then by getting their people to short sell in thae market. manipulating exactly when Obama was behind Mccaine. The endgame for a desperate DNC/ playing with our lives. Truth will come out some day.

Don't any of you Democrats know who rules the House of Representatives??? God, this is getting ridiculous!

  • Posted By: quasqueton @ 09/29/2008 7:47:46 PM

Hey Hal: Why did so many Democrats bail? Hmmm? It's your party.

What a Great Country we live in.... Too bad the ones that regulate it aren't secure enough in their jobs to come and vote their minds. We are being asked to believe in them, and they don't even have the courage to believe in themselves...... Our leaders need to understand that this issue cuts deep into the core values we all as Americans hold dear. We value that vote! .... I have news for Congress, I'm a hard working American and I love this Country enough to say no to any amount of money that puts my country in the hands of a few Super rich, greedy, manipulating, law ignoring, foul smelling ( Believe me they stink to the high heavens when they hold their arms in the air on the trading floor) Wall Street Execs. Put them out to graze in the pasture for a while, maybe we could scoop up the cow dung they drop and solve our energy crisis in the bargain. Like I said.... What a Country!... Let the good times roll, for a few days anyway. I'm sure Congress will loose their way eventually and pass this crap on to us. It's too bad though. Just remember who voted for the bill when it 's YOUR turn to vote.

"Why did so many House Republicans bail? Some say it's because Pelosi hurt their feelings by pointing out that Republicans were in charge when things went to hell."

That just boggles the mind because it is so incredibly stupid. Well Republicans, I know something that will hurt more than your feelings...your constituents remember this come election day.

John McCain is nothing but an erratic clown. He should be embarrassed for trying to blame Obama??? BIG LIAR! Earlier, he and his top aides took credit for building a winning bailout coalition ??? hours before the vote failed and stocks tanked. He should be the first to leave! Obama never claimed that he was going to Washington to "fix" the crisis. Huge stunt... He's just trying to put in Obama his own failures. McCain's leadership? Nonexistent.

Thank you for the 2-fer, republicans. Your unprecedented ignorance may have just saved our country from 4 more years of republican destruction, and in turn, succesfully turned the destruction on yourself.

It's the well oiled machine of political Darwinism.

  • Posted By: quasqueton @ 09/29/2008 6:55:11 PM

Mr. Gross - you blame Republicans for the vote against the bailout. Well, let me see, hmmm, who rules the House? Oh, yes, I saw an article earlier that Bawny Fwank (I hope that doesn't hurt his feewings), said Pelosi's little tirade "hurt some feelings". Well, If I was going to vote for something that I didn't believe in, and then the Speaker calls me an idiot - no, I probably wouldn't either it either. So, mighty Nancy, why couldn't you get all the Democrats to vote with you?? Why???

    • Posted By: MTR1973 @ 09/29/2008 7:06:50 PM

Pelosi's comments were ill-timed and unnecessary, for sure. However, being an elected representative of the people doesn't entitle you to have feelings - it obligates you to act in the best interests of your constituents.. Try again.

The democrates are guilty in starting this sub-prime mortgage mess.

    WHY DOESN'T NEWSWEEK REPORT THIS?????????????????????

McCain tried to stop it and was blocked by the Democrats.

The House GOP has decided that they would rather see the global economy collapse than let any Democrats get credit for bringing a solution to the floor. Pretty pathetic and petty...so much for "Country First".

In addition, McCain (through his people) grandstanded about how he brought everyone together and supported the final proposal, and it is his party that backed away at the last minute. What does that say about his leadership abilities--if he cannot rally his own party in a time of crisis to agree on a critical position that he claimed to support, how is he expected to bring the nation together after taking office?
