One day soon a US CINC will have to make a decision to use nuclear weapons against a state that has become radicalized, and has its own nukes. Better to strike first than be on the recieving end.

Its a shame that having so many propblem in this country, they can't get corruption out. With Nuclear Weapons at hand, and the terroism spreading throuhgout the region, we're at the door of WW3.All the leaders want power, and give the people nothing, sounds like old fashion socialism to me which is where we are today.

    The Bush Depression

In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide the largest morgage bank in the world,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms. Also, Fanny and Freddy Mae which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States.
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash and we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before.

McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.

Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He either didn't care or didn't realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime.
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a tanking economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit.Bush created a national debt larger then the first 42 presidents combined
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why isnt obama 25 points ahead

The chairman of McCains campaign recently said that people don't vote on issues they vote on a personality composite. Which means he is trying to sell you personality instead of results.

Let's teach him we are smarter than that .

31 states are voting now, dont wait
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

The biggest problem facing Pakistan is an incompetent corrupt and inept government based on cronyism. They have no vision no strategy no nothing to face the ongoing conflict. They do only what they are told to do by foreigners who do not understand dynamics of this country. Zardari is the most corrupt of them all. Hence the president. What Pakistan needs is no government for at least 10 years, like in Somalia. The army should stay to guard the borders. The intrepid people of this great country can look after themselves.

The truth is Pakistan is going to keep getting worse if it has politicians like Zardari and Sharif. I agree that fighting against terrorism is an important issue but do you really think the people of Pakistan are going to be supportive if there are power outages 24/7 and inflation thats out of control. Domestic issue need to be taken care of first before delving into the more complicated ones - well thats if Zardari's competent enough. But as well as anyone knows he showed his competency by being all over Palin.

    God help Pakistan

But at least someone's getting the word out. Good job Fasih Ahmed

zardari is isolated because he is a corrupt thug who stole billions from pakistanis. The only reason he is even in power is due to blind people who only voted along ethnic lines. This guy is not qualified to be president.

Zardari and Sharif should both be banned from Pakistani politics and they should get some new blood in office.

The trustworthiness of Pakistani leaders is so poor that their statements are worthless. Recently Prime Miniter of Pakistan was saying to a reporter "I will say what ever you want me to say" which shows he stands for nothing. Pakistan Peoples Party has tried to have it both ways by claiming that it is Pakistan's war as well as telling people that their hands are tied and they are being forced to make decisions against their will. The PPP government is incompetent and only serves its selfish gains which is hurting both the people of Pakistan and their American freinds.

It is shameful to put the word 'President' infront of Zardari's name. Is the world forgetting his nickname 'Mr. 10%'. Finally somehow the unimaginable has happened and the fox is in charge of the hen house. God help Pakistan. The Pakistani people need to wakeup to this biggest heist in their history.

Now he is in a place where he belongs - incapable & incompetent and very soon he will become irrelevant. In a previous comment I stated that, he cannot ''replace'' Musharaff, Zardari could only fill the position.

Dupes, dumbs and stupids like this guy Fasih (read his last paragraph again) are hoping against the hope and seem to be living in a fools' paradise. Or, maybe the few dollars he gets from Newsweek are his utmost compulsion!

Excellent article Fasih! I'm glad that more writer's with middle eastern names are getting a chance to tell us what the deal is in the Middle East. I have more confidence in someone like Fasih Ahmed telling me about Pakistan than someone with an American name.

It's a real pity that idiot Bush kept propping up the dictator Musharraf who talked a good game of fighting terrorists but who in practice let us down big time. I hope that Zardari realized that the terrorists within his country are the biggest threat to Pakistan and not the U.S. I don't trust Sharif anymore than I did Musharraf. It's too bad we can't have military ties that are closer in cooperating against Al Qaeda and the Taliban like we did in Vietnam. We should have some advisors in Pakistan helping train the Pakistani's in counterinsurgency warfare and more cooperation in using advanced U.S. military assets like spy drones to coordinate strikes against suspected terrorist targets so we don't make mistakes and kill innocent Pakistani civilians. We also need to help the Pakistani government straighten out the crooked Pakistani spy agency that helps the terrorists and not us.
