Dara's the only reason I bought this weeks magazine. She is a role model for all generations of women and showed sportsmanship that we have not seen for quite some time. Her commitment to her sport and her desire to promote a healthy lifestyle is more proof of her character. She has not sold out to endorse anything she doesn't believe in herself. She didn't set out to be a role model. She only wanted to swim again. But, being a role model is something that she has accepted and continues to be one in the most positive way. Now I must go to the gym. I have lost 6 pounds in two months thanks to this womans inspiration. And have lost it in a healthy way:)

It is quite obvious this person set out to get attention by using the word *** in the first place. It is very obvious to me tha they are an indivifual lacking a very broad vocabulary. If this is the first thing that comes to mind to describe people of success, they are in trouble.

I really have to admit that as a woman I find loving, compassionate, caring leadership, most admirable. Mother Theresa, Princess Diana. etc. I respect everyone's individuality, but to me Tyra represents the MANY women trying to act tough or imitate men. Good for them, but to me it's nothing new, not genuine, and not attractive.

Maria, maybe you need to learn how to be successful in life. Every woman has the choice to be what they want to be. Who is to be the judge. You??? God will.

      • Posted By: mariamante @ 10/10/2008 4:11:42 AM

You're very judgemental for someone who suggests others are judgemental. Isn't that typical.

Mariamante-How on earth is Tyra Banks trying to imitate men? I don't understand why so many people give Tyra Banks a hard time. There is nothing wrong with being a model. She had made something of herself and is following her dreams. Women should be supporting each other instead of tearing each other apart constantly. The fact that she took her modeling and then was able to host a reality show and talk show says something about her. She is a business woman, smart, intellegent, and a role model because she is doing honest work and doing what she wants.

I've seen her show. She comes across ridiculous to me. She acts as though the world revolves around her and she is the only real Diva in town. Maybe it's just an act, but the image she portrays is not appealing to me. Like I said she is a very pretty woman, definitely not a role model for me.

Do you even know what a "***" is? If you are aware of the definition then you know that there are no "***" featured. You might consider evaluating where your hatred for your fellow human derives from. Then, decide to work on it. Life is too short to waste it deliberating on hateful thoughts and emotions. I really hope you reconcile your anger one day. You will only have a more fulfilling life as a result.

I can't believe that Tyra made the list, that I see as who other women should aspire to be. I guess it just goes to show that people like the Tyra's and Paris's don't have to have brains to be succesful and/or wealthy. What has Tyra done that has really impacted people in a good way?

    • Posted By: 2kids @ 10/10/2008 1:38:59 AM

I think that Tyra has done a beautul job at exposing new talent to the general public. Further, she's a young, successful woman. Be proud of her. When you acheive your dreams, if you've not already done so, you would want others to be pleased for you, right? Why not show some love? We all can use a lot more of it.

What kind of impact have you put upon your community?? This is what is all about, right? No one can be a standard or a impact if it doesn't start from yourself....... Everybody that's on this page needs to stop and "Look" at yourself any realize change comes within.... The Palin's out their can not make a change if you don't................... Stand up people and see what your worth......It's not about Tyra!!!! It's about YOU!!!!...LOVE!! We all have Standards!!!! It starts from the Being and then you have the End!!! What do you do in between?.....................

...after posting my comment I decided I should read some of the others. DID ANY OF YOU PEOPLE GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL? Your grasp of grammar is shameful. Apparently 'Hooked On Phonics' didn't work for you. Grab a book. Stay off the internet. Turn off the tv. Give your dying brains some much needed sustenance and for GOD's SAKE use your spell check.

Just want you to know that not all who read and use internet are native english speakers. But everyone has the right to express thier opinions and ideas on the matter. Thus, you do not have any single right to insult whatever grammar people here will produce.Instead, if you want to be useful, you might as well correct them in a nice way.. Who knows, if you'll do this, they might be even thankful to you. Act as a civilized individual. Thanx.

I have to agree with phoenix. Women need to come together as a whole and support each other. How else can we over come this patriarchal sysytem that is bringing us down? As women we need to unite and and understand each other. I congratulate all the women who have being sucessful and the plenty more to come.

Some of the comments posted on this blog are embarrassing. This society is full of self-centered people who believe the world revolves around them. Let go of your ego and wake up to the life around you. Bravo to these women who have succeeded in combating the challenges faced in their lines of work. Bravo to those who didn't make the spotlight. And a standing ovation to the many more beautiful women who succeed on their own terms... everyday!

A comment about the comment below mine. You are only as smart at the monkeys who raised you. It's a shame your life has been completely wasted. Have a nice day.

What a sad list of heroines. Tyra Banks? Puhleeze. Newsweek is on par. Keep up the average work.

I was reading an interview about our great over-40 swimmer who indicated she includes L-Arginine, an amino-acid food supplement, as part of her diet. It expands the blood vessels, improving circulation, lowering blood pressure a little, and most importantly for a 60+ runner like me, it speeds up the healing process after a hard workout. I read up on it, found it in a health food store, and have been taking it in 4,000mg doses each day. You know what? I'm not eating Excedrin for breakfast any more. I am not walking around with sore, aching muscles all the time anymore and have actually stepped up my runs a little. Thank you mom (the other swimmers call her mom!). Coach Mike, California

Rosario looks gorgeous as usual. Look, I don't understand some of the comments here. What people do that is respectable (teacher, singer, painter, or poet) is a reward in itself and doesn't need to be in Newsweek. I don't hearing about stories from all walks of life and yet I am not going to go on a rage because there are a variety here: an olympyist,, an actress,...being known or not being known shouldn't be what anyone looks at. I don't like some of the cruel words on here either and I find it sickening but I won't even name any names because I am not going to give attention where it is NOT deserved.

As far as the cover story, I???m not sure what that is about. I won???t judge it because maybe Newsweek will do a fair representation of Ms. Palin. I am not for them saying she is a woman leader because I don???t see what she has done to be so. Where???s Hilary?

Stop posting your racial slurs and get a life. You clearly are uneducated and a fool. These women and many more will cream you.

I agree with Heather34. People only see the "good" side when folks have become successful. They don't see, or were not around, to witness and experience the heartache, the let downs, loneliness, and back stabbing done to folks like Tyra; whether they are models or not. It shouldn't matter what profession it is. What they should focus on is how well the person had weathered thru the storm and still managed to hold their high afterwards!!!! I admire people who are survivors, and their looks are not issue and should never be an issue. Consider the character of the person -- not the person's character.

I love to see a woman her understand her "feminine genius". Women who lead through compassion, caring, nurturing, and sacrifice are amazing to me. Women like Mother Theresa, Princess Diana, Jackie Kennedy etc. do it for me. Tyra is simply a beautiful woman, who like a million others, try to imitate men by acting tough. There are plenty of pretty women and plenty who can wear the pants better than men. There are few who give everything of themselves for the sake of others or for the sake of love. There are few who maintain their values despite what "society" claims is appropriate.

WHy does it seem that people here are bashing Tyra???Is she beautiful?Absolutely, But she is also a very intelligent , honest and caring woman as well. Tyra has worked very hard for the life she leads. Nothing was just handed to her.I absolutely love Tyra and feel she is a fabulous role model.I wish I could be like Tyra. I wish more people in this world could learn from her. Then the world would e a better place. I wish She was runing for President. I would vote for her.
