MAY "GOD" CONTINUE BLESSING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
NOT ONE SINGLE COUNTRY IS PERFECT,BUT WHEN IT COMES TO DEMOCRACY AND
FREEDOM PLUS MILITARY MIGHT;THE VANGUARD IS THE U:S.A.
IT WOULD BE VERY SCARY IF THE LEADING POWER WAS CHINA OR RUSSIA.

for poor Mr. Hirsh and others of the American left the demise of America can't come soon enough with them cheering
It's a shame to Hirsh and the rest of the American left that American is still on top. Just a little more socialism here and there and you may get your anti American wish Mr. Hirsh.
"No, even $700 billion won't be enough ... "
Already setting us up psychologically for the next ass-*** ...
Dear sir,
If you understand the American economics and the American dream that well, you would understand that if consumerism is what is driving the American economy, then China???s demographics and the aspirations of more than 1 billion Chinese will drive, and continue to drive, what you called ???an overrated economy??? to even greater heights than the American economy. Therefore, I do not understand why you had called China???s demographics ???dire??? and its economy ???overrated???. At this moment perhaps, when it is still dependent on the American market and consumerism to absorb its manufacturing output, then yes, China???s development is still in its adolescent stage. But therein also lies its huge potential. The same with its polluted environment and legal system. They are a challenge but they also present huge potential for commercial growth too. As for ideology, are you so sure that China???s bureaucrats and people care much for political ideology. Whether it is the communist or another democratic party at the helm, it is the economy that people care more about. Corruption and autocracy will still be around regardless of which party is at the helm and they are very evident even in democratic countries. It is these two problems that any dissent in China and Taiwan is really directed against, not ideology. China has proven for many years, it is not interested in exporting any ideology. Its armed forces are more for defense than offense. China will not develop an arms race nor is it interested in exporting any form of ideology, as its neutrality towards the Georgian conflict and North Korea nuclear aspirations attests. It needs peace to pursue economic, scientific, space development and reunification with Taiwan, and in this respect perhaps it will intervene in North Korea.

The one remark is a bit too smug:This status quo is unlikely to change over our lifetimes.
I can clearly see a path to our demise on the horizon, We can elect McCrazy and Caribou Barbie.
Ycarcomed, are you blind to the clear signals? We are now mired in a national debt (mostly to China) that we can never repay and we are engaged in a war that we can never win. Our diplomatic minds are so misled that they disregard history. No foreign power has won a guerilla war in recent memory. Have you forgotten Vietnam? And the Soviets in Afghanistan? We will not win in Iraq even if we spend $10-B a month for the next hundred years. This unnecessary war will continue to drain our coffers unless we accept reality. Our continuing economic travails at Wall Street, prohibitive costs of fuel, the Iraq war and the outsourcing of jobs (why is it that most everything we buy is Made in China?) if unresolved favorably will inevitably lead to the demise of our once proud and great "empire".
pinpin, you're just wrong.
Rome fell due to external struggles moreso internal, and America still holds, if you haven't read, the trump card in pretty much all world affairs.
