FactChecking Biden-Palin Debate

The candidates were not 100 percent accurate. To say the least.

Comment: FactCheck.Org is owned by the Annenberg group of Chicago! Talk about a conflict of interest! And Obama has been telling people on the trail to check out the site to verify his opponents claims. Funny, every time that he endorsed something, it turns out to be a part of his spin machine! Like he raised objections in the primaries when Indiana required photo I.D. to vote. He Protested that It took away people's right to vote! I
knew then and there that he was up to no good! America, wake up from the MASS HYPNOSIS!

Comment: Has anyone noticed the inverse relationship and correlation between the Barack Obama-Joe Biden campaign ticket stock seemingly going up and every stock on Wall Street going down. Is there a cause and effect between any seeming growing momentum behind an Obama election and the continuing recent real stock market crash? Wall Street is about future expectations and the expectations are that Barack Obama will not help our economy if he is elected. Wall Street and the world knows that an Obama election will not be good for business. A vote for John McCain will be a vote for our economic recovery. If you want to keep your job or have a future please vote John McCain. Get out there and vote for John McCain. Get your friends to vote for John McCain. Vote John McCain!!!!!!!! Vote John McCain!!!!!

Is Barack Obama blowing smoke or not? Is Barack Obama a chain smoker or not?

If he is only a closet smoker and not transparent by smoking in public and admitting that he has a nicotine addiction then how can we trust him on other issues that are truly grave?

Does he smoke a lot of cigarettes only when he plays poker with his Chicago friends or is it a daily habit?
How can we trust him on health care if he is a smoker. Would not someone who really wants to hold down healthcare costs want to quit smoking.

We want to know if Barack Obama is going to promise to not chain smoke around Joe Biden because Joe Biden had asthma as a teenager. The reason that Joe Biden could not fight for his country in 1968 during the peak of the Vietnam War was that he had teenage asthma.

Vote John McCain !!!!! Vote John McCain!!!!!!!!!!

Comment: Vote John McCain !!!!! Vote John McCain!!!!!!!!!!

Joe Biden had horribly bad luck, ninety percent of all children are diagnosed with asthma before age six but Joe Biden was unlucky enough to be in the ten percent group of children who acquire asthma after age six and became asthmatic when he was a teenager. After five student deferments while he attended college and law school, his teenage asthma finally came to the attention of his local Selective Service Board and he missed the opportunity to serve his country during time of war as an officer. But for his bad luck with his teenage asthma diagnosis, Joe Biden could have gone in and served his country honorably as a officer and a gentleman and perhaps as a Judge Advocate Law Officer similar to his son. Most Americans would be concerned about Joe Bidens health if he had to step into the Presidency. We hope that Barack Obama will promise to not smoke in front of Joe Biden because the smoke could aggravate Joe???s asthma that prevented him from serving his country during time of war.

Obama's Campaign Paid Over $800,000 To ACORN For Get-Out-The-Vote Efforts, But "Mistakenly Misrepresented" Their Work To The FEC:

Obama's Campaign "Paid More Than $800,000" To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts; The Campaign Originally "Misrepresented" The Group's Work To The FEC. "U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat's campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports. An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. -- a subsidiary of ACORN -- worked in 'get-out-the-vote' projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary." (David M. Brown, "Obama To Amend Report On $800,000 In Spending," Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 8/22/08)

The link below describes how some in Congress tried to use the original version of the bailout bill to divert money eventually recovered to groups like ACORN, a group Obama has a long association with. See:

Comment: WAKE UP AMERICA! Do any of you honestly believe that McCain or Obama cares about YOU? What president in your lifetime has stopped by and said "Hi, (insert your name here) how are things going for you today? Did you get your electricty bill paid? How about the car payment?" NONE! Do you know why? Because no president in the history of this country has ever cared how the citizens of this country are really doing. If you honestly think either of these two "POLITICIANS" is going to be concerned with how YOU are doing you need to go to the nearest hospital and be admitted to the padded rooms. On the bright side, if McCain gets in you will get a $5000.00 tax credit, and if Obama gets in your employer will be forced to pay the bill. Ummm, you'll still be in an insane assylum, but rest assured, neither McCain or Obama will care. The only one that's going to help you and your family, is you and your family. the sooner people start to realize that the faster this country will return to glory. Until then, lock your doors, the crime rate will go up as the stock market goes down.

Comment: "Not all Democrats agree with Mr. Frank that such policies are off-limits to criticism. Last week Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama said in a statement: 'Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect, I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong.'

"Mr. Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus."

    'Rank snobbery'

Camille Paglia, who supports Sen. Barack Obama, has nothing but scorn for the way the media has treated Sarah Palin.

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses," Miss Paglia writes at www.salon.com.

"The bourgeois conventionalism and rank snobbery of these alleged humanitarians stank up the place. As for Palin's brutally edited interviews with Charlie Gibson and that viper, Katie Couric, don't we all know that the best bits ended up on the cutting-room floor? Something has gone seriously wrong with Democratic ideology, which seems to have become a candied set of holier-than-thou bromides attached like tutti-frutti to a quivering green Jell-O mold of adolescent sentimentality."

Comment: The link below contains a purported list of the top 25 in Congress who got contributions from the folks at Fannie and Freddie. Obama is listed third, after Dodd and Kerry, even though Obama is just a junior Senator. Obama is followed next by Clinton. Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi are on the list as well.

Then there is the Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Dodd who allegedly got special mortgage deals from Countrywide, who gave preferential rates to 'friends' of company's chairman.

Comment: Biden lied the most. He definitely lied about Obama not saying he would sit down with Preseident of Iran without pre-conditions. I heard Obama say that myself. He lied about the current Administration being responsible for the economic conditions. The Democrats are directly responsible for this crisis. It started with Democratic deregulation under Clinton and continued with the Democratic Congress voting down President Bush and the Republicans bills to regulate Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Wall Street. Obama went right along with Barney Frank and Senator Dodd and Schumer in defeating any regulation. Besides Obama has direct connections with Acorn who pushed and pushed the unqualifeid mortgages on banks. Obama even trained Acorn people on how to push the bad loans. Biden lied and lied. Biden lies about the war. He and Obama contends that we lost the war and won't admit that we won the surge which McCain was for. He is just stupid to lie on things that the American People know to not be the truth.

Comment: The fact that Fox News Network is taking the position of launching a series of all out assaults against senator Obama???s character is a sad day in journalism. They should be ashamed of the immoral and unethical standards that their network displays on a continual basis. What they must be made to understand is that as citizens we rely upon networks for their fair and accurate reporting of events and we will not tolerate anything less, especially when its over the top or maybe I should say as far right as Fox News Network is. It is time to take a stand against Fox and look to other networks for fair and accurate news coverage.

    Comment:

Sarah Palin is a fraud. She was pregnant before she got married, has had an affair with one of her husband's friends, her 19 year old son is rumored to have serious drug problems, her 17 year old unwed daughter is pregnant, and she has used her political power to get even with people who disagree with her, yet all she talks about is being a "good Christian" and doing God's will. As a Christian she is a hypocrite who can not walk her talk, and as a politician she is completely unqualified to be Vice President. Her interview with Katie Couric showed her to be a woman with a disorganzied mind, a woman who is in over her head, utterly unprepared for the twist her fate has taken.

Even committed Republicans who support McCain have to ask themselves if they really would take the risk of putting our country into Palin's hands. Sure, being VP doesn't necessarily take a lot of skills, but being President requires great intelligence and a clear-eyed world view, one untainted by religious fanaticism. Look at the mess we got with the under-qualified Dubya, and even he seems smarter and less fanatical than Palin. McCain is 72 years old, with high cholesterol and high blood pressure; his father and grandfather each died of heart attacks at age 72. McCain's Vice President HAS to be ready to lead. And by lead, I am not referring to a full speed charge into Armageddon.

For those of you who don't know, Palin belongs to a fundamentalist church that believes the end of the world is near: that war, financial distress and famine will kill off the sinful non-believers, and that when this holocaust occurs all good Christians will be taking refuge in Alaska. Furthermore, her church conducts witch hunts -- they actually use prayer to locate "witches" in their community, then publicly brand them as witches, and hold them responsible for everything that goes wrong in town. (Honestly, I think the long winters must be getting to their minds.) You can go on YouTube and watch videos of Palin participating during sermons like this. She stands on the altar facing the members. The congregation stands with outstretched hands, trancelike, speaking in tounges while the priest prays to "keep Sarah safe from all forms of witchcraft."

Could you REALLY feel comfortable knowing that a woman who holds these beliefs would have the power to declare war and deploy nuclear missiles?

Comment: As Gov. Palin so eloquently put it during the VP debate on Thusday: Sen. Obama wants to ???waive the white flag of defeat??? in Iraq. I think most Americans, right of left of the aisle, do not want that to happen. Regardless of whether or not you supported the war at its onset, not to mention the debacle it transitioned into before Gen. Petreaus got there, we are clearly winning now. The terrorists are on the run, safety is improving, and if we don???t get it right this time, we???ll probably have to go back 10 years from now to fix it anyways. It???s like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Iraq has been doing well lately and it would be crime to let the lawlessness that has reigned for the last 3 years loose once again to ravage the country and its people.

Palin went on to point out that Obama is insistent on pursuing ???dangerous??? foreign policies and remains ???naive??? when it comes to the ways of the world. Imagine what people would say about anyone else promoting a 16 month withdraw plan for well over 18 months, and then saying that no revisions were necessary? That sounds pretty naïve to me. Obama says that we must win in Afghanistan, which to him is the central front on the War on Terror (the Generals in the military disagree), and not necessarily Iraq. I can't imagine how we could possibly win in Afghanistan if we capitulate in Iraq. That is a very dangerous thinking.

I think Palin made the decision that voters face this year very clear. Vote for a winner, or vote for a loser.

Comment: An assessment by health care economists published last month in the journal Health Affairs projected McCain's plan would lead 20 million people to lose their employer-sponsored insurance. But it also found that 21 million people would gain coverage through the individual market.
Do you know what individual insurance means? You are on your own and they can hike your insurance for no reason. Last year I was paying 900.00/month for 2 adults and they hiked it to 1600.00/month a 700.00 increase out of the blue....luckily I had other choices but not everyone have choices and may have just to drop it and have no insurance. And do not dare to be sick, then they hike you until you drop it and forget renewal!
We should not have hospitals and pharmaceuticals making billions in profit and people dying without healthcare. GO SELL SHOES if you want to make money. Health should not be a BIG BUSINESS for profit ONLY!!!!! Pre-existing conditions should be eliminated! Many employers do check your medical record (believe it or not) before hiring you and you may be denied employment just even because your spouse or children may even been in a hospital for the minor reason or risk!!!! Certainly you will not know why you were not selected...it is secret corruption like everything this days!
We are talking about LIFE here folks, where are your values?

Comment: I think a debate is a debate and if the candidate choose not to respond the question and fill in with talking points then he/she should not be given the option of responding because time is up. It should be mentioned that the candidate did not responded to the question.

If you go to take an exam and you do not know the response and instead you fill the blank with whatever you want, regardless if correct or not, that question gets no point and lowers your final grade.

I think Biden should have said that the debate was about answering the moderator???s questions not whatever she wanted and every time Palin ducked a question, he should have said (or the moderator): I guess you do not know the answer....you did not answer the question.....

If you look the debate again and you remove everything that was not asked, you will realize how poor she performed. And those questions that were answered had no depth or substance. This looked more like the convention speech repeating talking points than a true debate.

Comment: Do people think like Palin did a great performance? Most of them say she just did "alright". She did her homework and memorized her lines. That's it..! Is she ready to be President of the USA, in case needed? Not for a minute... Do we want a VP who is just "alright". No, we need someone who is outstanding. Biden was outstanding yesterday. The logic is simple! Don't conform with just "alright". Just because she barely managed to "survive" and considering the expectations were really low, means NOTHING. By the way, McCain finished 894 out a class of 899 in the Naval Academy. Mediocre people think alike? Maybe... WE NEED THE BEST OF THE BEST!

McCain should give republicans their money back... McCain's whole campaign is a big circus, going from stunt to stunt. His choice for VP, Sarah Palin is a huge joke. The only thing she's good at, is with non-answers, dodging questions and throwing "keywords" over and over again (of course adding a wink every so often, like in a beauty pageant). McCain owes the country an explanation for putting his political calculations in front of the country. She is not ready to be VP or President in case needed. Obama has shown better leadership and in addition, Joe Biden looks, acts and is more than prepared to be Vicepresident of the USA.

Comment: Now, about the debate. The reasoning behind some people???s ABSURD logic that since Palin didn't screw it, then she did well is nothing but MEDIOCRE. She definitely DID NOT DO GOOD ENOUGH and DID NOT PASS the VP standard TEST last night, period! The debate reassured my decision to vote for the Obama/Biden ticket. I am more confident now that Obama has the right partner. Biden definitely won the debate, he blasted and lectured Palin. Biden overshadowed her and looked much more knowledgeable about all the issues discussed. Just because she ???survived??? doesn???t mean she did well. Not at all. She looked like a college student and just managed to dodge the questions, generalize and smile. She was able to appear as if she knew about the issues by giving non-answers, reciting memorized answers, and winking to the audience (very professional, huh?). I???m sorry Sen. McCain but she is definitely not prepared to be a VP. On the other hand Joe Biden, is more than prepared, will provide the experience to back Obama's good judgment, and will be a great VP

I understand that republicans set the stage with Biden that if he was tough then they would criticize him, same as Gwen (the book issue did not came 2 days earlier by chance), if she would do follow ups like Couric did, she would have been blamed...
So, do not touch the delicate flower, she is a woman, a mother of a child with special needs on one side, on the other side Palin attacks and they say Viva la Barracuda!

Comment: WOW! Someone said that Obama in not qualified to be president? Hilarious! I think that he's more qualified than McCain and definitely more qualified than Palin. Everyone, compare McCain's record with Obama's.

McCain's student record (894 out of 899 in the Naval Academy and who actually got in the Academy using his dad's and grand-daddy's CONNECTIONS since they were both admirals). Oh, by the way, how come McCain got to fly (and recklessly crash) 5 planes if he finished at the bottom of his class? Answer: daddy and gran-daddy connections! After coming back from war, he CHEATED his first wife (since she didn't look all the good after a terrible accident) and married a millionaire who paid for his expenses to get in the Senate. Besides being a POW, which DOES NOT automatically qualify you to be president, he is empty. How many POWs do we have here in the US? Hundreds! That's a HUGE FALLACY, and has no logic. He has no relevant INTELLECTUAL accomplishments! Nothing.

Obama, who wasn't born with a silver spoon like McCain and studied his tail off, is a graduate of Columbia University, has a law degree from Harvard, Editor of the Harvard Law Review, 12 years in politics, four years on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and manager of one of the most impressively flawless and forward thinking presidential campaigns ever.

Obama is far, far more qualified and smart than McCain AND Palin combined! Obama has knowledge, judgment, and yes, some experience in politics as he has proven during the campaign and the debate. In case needed, we have Joe Biden who can provide his huge experience. McCain on the other hand has Sarah Palin who can memorize lines and repeat them like a parrot and... a great smile! Can we trust her? Not a minute!

Yes, we it comes to this election Obama and Biden ARE THE BEST TICKET, BY FAR. Period.

Comment: The reasoning behind some people???s ABSURD logic that since Palin didn't screw it, then she did well is nothing but MEDIOCRE. On the other hand Joe Biden, is more than prepared, will provide the experience to back Obama's good judgment, and will be a great VP. Period!

Comment: As a Christian, I will happily cast my vote for another Christian, "Barack Hussein Obama". Man, this campaign has really brought out the hatemongers of the world. But let's get back to Sarah Palin and gaffes. Boy, she really made a big one Friday in Texas, where she was hosting a fundraiser at the Fairmont with the wealthy elite.

In the Dallas Morning News, an article was published on her visit where Palin referred to the state of Texas, and I quote as "Alaska's little sister state Texas". A flood of comments by Dallas readers flooded in on her comments, however late last night the Dallas writer went in and REMOVED most content of the article and re-wrote another article that makes Palin sound like she is manna from heaven. The Republican camp jumped on that mistake real quick. But for those of you who are actually interested in the truth, this is how the aritlce started.

Sarah Palin follows debate with Dallas visit
07:01 PM CDT on Friday, October 3, 2008
By GROMER JEFFERS JR. / The Dallas Morning News
    gjeffers@dallasnews.com

Dallas Republicans enthusiastically greeted Sarah Palin on Friday, fresh off her debate with Joe Biden.

"It is good to be visiting here in Alaska's little sister state Texas," the Republican vice presidential candidate told more than 1,000 people at a fundraiser at the Fairmont hotel.

She spoke for about 20 minutes, discussing energy, government reform and the tough sledding for the McCain campaign, which trails Barack Obama in most polls, in the final few weeks before Election Day.

Comment: I'm curious why you pointed out that you'd be happy to vote for another Christian, Barrack Hussein Obama. As if McCain and Palin aren't? They are Christian also and always have been. Obama was actually a Muslim who states he became a Christian.

And you wanted to get straight to Palin's so-called gaffe. I'm sure her comment of Texas being the little sister state was in reference to the state's size. Although the second largest state, it is only about 40 percent the size of our largest state, Alaska. In any case, I'm certain she didn't mean any ill will, and as a Texan, I didn't take it as such. BTW, if its gaffes you want, watch the debate again. Both made them, your VP pick numbering 16 I think, and he's the one 30 years of experience!

Comment: I must add that I am a Christian but a true Pro-life and pro-choice Christian NOT a pro-birth only. (meaning once the child is out forget about him, no food, no insurance, no home, no education, no parents, no future, not our business, he is on his own!!!!)
Pro-life: No unnecessary war killing thousands; Healthcare to cover thousands dying for lack of medical attention or timely medical attention; Protection of the environment and the water we drink, the air we breath, the food we eat, that are all making us ill and yes killing us too (and the animals and plants as well which are God???s creation as well and depend on us as superior to protect them), the whole planet is our responsibility; unfair capital death, killing innocents too; Providing economic growth and employment so families flourishes instead of divorcing and children could have a stable home to grow and go to school and college; Providing the economic conditions that historically proven lowers ???abortion rate??? instead of increasing it like with republicans; Supporting stem cell research to save lives, the same that in-vitro fertilization and organ transplant (make the parallel with organ transplant and embryonic cells that are going to be discarded, what is the difference?). Let alone people that eat animal products and then say they respect every living cell.......(I am a vegetarian for over 22 years...).
Pro-choice, (which is not mutually exclusive of pro-life in specific circumstances): it only refers to the right of the mother to decide with her own conscience, family, doctors and her faith what is best at a specific moment in her life. The same right to chose that have certain mothers that decide to take a plane for 8 hours after the fountain has broken.......If you look the statistics the great majority of woman having abortion are MOTHERS!
The issue should be how to make it safe and how to ???reduce it???....There are laws banning killing, drug use, you name it and people do it...so will abortion even with all the laws, so it is a matter of ???protecting life as well??? at the same time that we respect woman???s decision to choose.
Since abortion was legalize it grew a bit and then have been in DECLINE! And from the hundred of death related to abortion, there a just few today. This issue should be looked all the way around with objectivity and realism.

Comment: Any American who is contemplating voting for Barack Hussein Obama is NOT American !!

Palin has more sense than Obama and Biden put together. Please..Obama never won a debate yet. He was beat soundly by Hillary Clinton all the time, he was beat soundly by John McCain. Palin can wipe Obama's butt all over the floor in a debate. That is what really scares Obama. He's really lucky he doesn't have to debate Palin. Barack Hussein Obama would be trounced.

You know ...all this trashing of Palin by the left-wing nut media and dumb Dems is pretty amusing.

Barack - " I can't answer that question because its above my pay grade " ....lol

Barack - " We have 57 states to go to , awh..we went to one last night...and we got one more to go " ...lol

Barack - " Our troops are air raiding villages and killing innocent civilians in Afghanistan " ....lol

Barack - " I will meet with our enemies without any pre-conditions " ....lol.

Barack - " Iran is just a small country , Iran is not a threat " .... lol.

Barack - " Ninety-five percent of Americans won't see any tax increases ' ....lol.

Barack - ' I support the surge in Iraq now because I know it's working " ...lol.

Barack - " Awh yes...I agree with Hillary Clinton ...I believe what she says..." ...lol

Barack - " I believe that aw..aw..Russia and Georgia should use diplomacy to settle their dispute in the
United Nations " ( Russia carries a veto in the UN ) ....lol

These are just a few of the hundreds of gaffes , blunders and stupid intentions on Barack Hussein Obama's part. Americans who support Obama are pretty stupid....in fact they are not American. If the USA elects this dumb Muslim punk from Chicago as President it will be the final knockout for the States right after the $800 Billion Dollar bailout.....ok Reverened Wright...now you can say " God bless America ..nah nah nah..God damn America !! " ..." the chickens have come back home to roost " !!

Do you think Clinton, Al Gore (Nobel prize), best economist and financial brain like Buffet who are behind Obama are dumb?
Democratic party is a group of talented pro-middle class intelligent people that will bring prosperity again like Clinton did, like they did after the Big Depression because they truly care about PEOPLE not MONEY alone. And when everybody is OK poor, middle or rich are OK and that s what we see when Democrats are in power, not recession, war and depression when republicans are, they just clean the banks and leave debts not surpluses!!!

Comment: Wow. Talk about dumb. Half of your "information" is completely fabricated, the other half is stretching the truth. ALL of it is 100% pure ignorance. I find it quite amusing (lol in your terms) that a Canadian is telling Americans what exactly it means to be an American. Voting how one chooses, whether someone agrees with it or not is purely American.
Let's fact check your "quotes", shall we? (though someone should teach you that a QUOTE is word for word what someone said. I believe what you are doing is PARAPHRASING!)
      >>"Iran is just a small country, Iran is not a threat'....lol" - What he was actually saying that, compared to Soviet Russia, Iran is a smaller threat. I don't know about you, but I rate someone pointing nuclear weapons directly at America with their finger on the button more of a threat than a non-proliferated country.
      >>"95% of all Americans won't see any tax increases"...simply not true
      >>"I agree with Hillary Clinton"....why in the world is that funny to you?
      >>"I believe that Russia and Georgia should use diplomacy to settle their dispute in the UN"...why yes, genius, Russia does have veto power in the UN, but John McCain also articulated this point of view, so don't jump all over Obama for taking that same position.

Obama is NOT a Muslim (though I take umbrage with people saying that there is something wrong with being one). So quit spreading lies. For someone so "knowledgeable" about what it means to be an American, you clearly aren't acquainted with the principles of our country. We have freedom of religion, freedom of opinion, and the freedom to vote for whomever we like. I support 100% someone else's right to feel differently about something than I do. I even support someone's right to spew hate like you do. THAT's what being an American is about. And before you group me into a group that is pre-disposed to being biased towards Obama, I am a white woman from the South. I see hatred all of the time. All of these people who have a problem voting for Obama simply because he's not white just disgust me. And all of these people who claim that they're afraid an "elitist" will be in the White House and running things shock me. GOOD - I hope someone who is brilliant and well educated will be running things. Since when is being better than someone a bad thing. Would you want a sub-par brain surgeon who's also a really nice guy to operate on you? No - you wouldn't. Just because someone's "like you" doesn't mean they're qualified.

Comment: I am so happy that Palin is now starting to use the Fox Network, Hannity, etc. to spin her candadacy. It will give Democrats a chance to once again show that logical thought will overcome dishonest spin.

Palin is simply not qualified to be President or Vice President. By the way, these are very serious positions. The entire country will be affected. She plainly does not have the education, intelligence, or leadership ability for the job. Yet, the Right Wing media (Fox et al) are going to sell her as something that she is not. They will also continue whith their dishonest smear against Obama and Biden.

Hopefully, with Obamas victory, the dishonest spin will stop and logical thinking and arguments will be more utilized. The Republican Party has really did a disservice to its members by associating themselves with these dishonest tactics. It is certainly a direct result of the Republicans damaged brand.

My hope is that after this election... should the Democrats win... the Republicans will completely dissassociate themselves with those dishonest media outlets. Or those news outlets will be more honest with their viewers and listeners.

It is kind of scary because those dishonest news outlets may still have some sway. Perhaps a lot of voters are swayed by the propaganda. Yes, Democrats may certainly lose if they do not get out and vote. But I hope not... and I do not think Democrats will lose.

Regardless, I love the fact that McCain and Palin are going to those news outlets to spin their story. It will make the Democrats victory that much more meaningful.

Comment: I agree, these are serious positions, so I don't blame her. Actually, it's the only place she can get a fair break. Weasel Charlie Gibson's interview of her was hateful and condescending, while he puckered up and kissed Obama's @ss for an hour in his interview with him. Couric, Weasel's partner, hates her as much as he does. It's no secret that NBC, CBS and ABC are in the tank for Obama, don't begrudge the fact that there's an actual, non-liberal news entity out there that wants McCain and Palin.

Comment: Palin's attempt at portraying herself as just another hockey mom from middle America does not play well after one sees the photo shoot of her next to her personal airplane in Vogue Magazine. I know a few hockey moms, and none of them own their own airplane. She is just another wealthy Republican pretending, during election season, to care about those of us who really are middle America and have to struggle to make car payments...not airplane payments. She is not sincere about anything. Just trying to make us believe she is a uncomplicated, caring, friendly hick from Alaska. Don't kid yourself....she is an egotistical, aggressive and self-aggrandizing power monger.

    Comment: The Bush Depression

In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide the largest morgage bank in the world,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms. Also, Fanny and Freddy Mae which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States.
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash and we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before.

McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.

Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He either didn't care or didn't realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime.
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a tanking economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit.Bush created a national debt larger then the first 42 presidents combined
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why isnt obama 25 points ahead

The chairman of McCains campaign recently said that people don't vote on issues they vote on a personality composite. Which means he is trying to sell you personality instead of results.

Comment: Right now, the polls indicate that a whole lot of the people are being fooled a whole lot of the time.

The current financial bailout crisis has propelled Barack Obama back into a substantial lead over John McCain-- which is astonishing in view of which man and which party has had the most to do with bringing on this crisis.
It raises the question: Do facts matter? Or is Obama's rhetoric and the media's spin enough to make facts irrelevant?

Fact Number One: It was liberal Democrats, led by Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, who for years-- including the present year-- denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taking big risks that could lead to a financial crisis.

It was Senator Dodd, Congressman Frank and other liberal Democrats who for years refused requests from the Bush administration to set up an agency to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

It was liberal Democrats, again led by Dodd and Frank, who for years pushed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to go even further in promoting subprime mortgage loans, which are at the heart of today's financial crisis.

Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago. So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the President. So did Bush's Secretary of the Treasury, five years ago.

Yet, today, what are we hearing? That it was the Bush administration "right-wing ideology" of "de-regulation" that set the stage for the financial crisis. Do facts matter?

We also hear that it is the free market that is to blame. But the facts show that it was the government that pressured financial institutions in general to lend to subprime borrowers, with such things as the Community Reinvestment Act and, later, threats of legal action by then Attorney General Janet Reno if the feds did not like the statistics on who was getting loans and who wasn't.

Is that the free market? Or do facts not matter?

Then there is the question of being against the "greed" of CEOs and for "the people." Franklin Raines made $90 million while he was head of Fannie Mae and mismanaging that institution into crisis.

Comment: Senator Joe Biden lied at least 14 times during the vice presidential debate according to those counting at John McCain???s presidential headquarters.

Tucker Bounds, a spokesman from GOP presidential candidate John McCain???s campaign said in a statement, ???Joe Biden graduated from his trademark verbal gaffe to outright lie in tonight???s debate.???

McCain???s blogger-in-chief Michael Goldfarb chronicled the 14 lies HERE.

On the foreign policy front, Biden challenged Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin when she said Barack Obama???s pledge to meet with any foreign leaders, including Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, without precondition ???goes beyond naivete and goes beyond poor judgment.???

Biden lectured Palin, ???That's just simply not true about Barack Obama. He did not say he'd sit down with Ahmadinejad.??? During the YouTube Democratic primary debate last July Obama was asked if he would meet the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea without ???precondition??? during his first year in office.

    ???I would,??? he replied.

Biden appeared to attack Obama for making that very statement in August 2007. While Biden was challenging Obama for the Democratic nomination for president Biden said he would not support such a pledge. ???Would I make a blanket commitment to meet unconditionally with the leaders of each of those countries within the first year I was elected president???? he said in an appearance at the National Press Club. ???Absolutely positively no."

Five of the lies Biden told were related to tax and energy votes. During the debate Biden adamantly claimed McCain voted the same way as Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama did on a vote to raise taxes on those making $42,000 a year. The legislative record shows McCain was not present in the Senate for either of those votes and is recorded as ???not voting.???

The RNC also takes issue with Biden???s assessment Palin supports a ???windfall profits tax??? and Biden???s claim McCain voted against alternative energy 23 times. The independent Factcheck.org has previously stated when Obama and other Democrats made similar charges about the 23 votes ???they???re overstating the case.???

The other lies detailed by Goldfarb were related to Biden???s characterization of McCain???s healthcare plan, stances on bank deregulation and the $700 billion financial bailout that recently passed the Senate.

Comment: I have a feeling that if any of you decide to go to a kids soccer game tommorow, and ask a parent about how they feel about the economy, you will get this response, "What? Who the hell are you and what are you doing here? Im trying to watch my kids game here a-hole!". I think there would be anomosity in their voice, not fear....... unless you're black..... then yeah, probably fear.

Comment: Dunno. Joes Constituional gaffes were unforgivable,as this man has spent decades in the Senate and should know better [ VP tiebreakers and Article I responsibilities]. HEZBOLLAH was never ''kicked out of South Lebanon''. Indeed,it never left.
The ''3.4 million children''under SCHIP expansion that ''McCain voted against''. Except for one detail. McCain and several Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats opposed the bill as it placed the ceiling at people making:

    250,000$ per year.

The same people Biden and Obama call ''rich''.

The Biden ''ropeline coal gaffe''has been replayed on YOU TUBE,and yes, Joes comments are in full context.

More dishonesty on the ''tax breaks for oil companies''. As FACTCHECK helpfully observed,Biden and Obamas attacks were ''misleading'' as the tax break went for all American businesses. Not simply ''oil companies''.

The plan now for the legacy media,is to first acknowlage that the debate went better than planned, and then corral resources in order to wreck her surviving chances. We will fully expect more ''troopergate''stories to clog the place up.[while not mentioning in one place on these pages that Joe Bidens brother and son are under investigation and lawsuit for fraud], pushing the ''non-regulatory''angle in the wake of the bailout in the ''What Happened And Why"" meme [while pointedly ignoring Democrats Frank and Dodds ,even Bidens, role in the disaster], and small beer stuff that NEWSWEAK is already circulating about Palin [size and cost of home[but not Bidens], self-financial worth [But not Bidens], parents as sometime ''rat killers''[but not Bidens lobbyist sons role in the Bankruptcy Bill], fluteplaying,SNL,and Why Leftwinged San Franciscans Are No Longer Buying A Chilean Wine Called ''Palin'',which predates her very political career [while saying nothing on the Jim Jones-like singalong of brainwashed kids down the coast in LA who chant: ''Obama Will Lead Us,And We Will Follow''].

    Another day,another dig at NEWSWEAK.

Comment: Obamabots, just be thankful you won't have to see Palin debate Obama. Imagine the humiliation the Thrilla from Wasilla would deal out to Captain MumbleMouth. But as it is, you'll get plenty of humiliation on Nov.5. But you need not! There's still time to come on over:

Change your mind. Change your vote. Change... yourself. Yes you can. It's okay, really!

Comment: OK, yup yer right! You keep believing that. I like my right wing best when its delusional.

Comment: "Okay", but I've called the last SIX elections in a row. Now you think about that, kiddie. When have you EVER been right? Just trying to teach you a lesson grasshopper, so you don't cry too much on Nov. 5. Unless... you want to? Maybe that's what it's all about. Okay, then cry it out kid, it's good for you. You will survive. But you'll be a little smarter.

Comment: I can't believe that no one has mentioned the most frightening moment of the whole debate. Sarah Palin wants to extend the job of VP beyond that done by Cheney. Doesn't anyone have a problem with that? I find it impossible to put more power into the hands of Palin when she is even LESS qualified than Cheney... MORE power is that very LAST thing we should be giving this woman!!!!!

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 10/03/2008 6:01:26 PM

Comment: Obama is less qualified than Palin...why give him that much power.

    • Posted By: mrzoid @ 10/03/2008 4:27:22 PM

Comment: I thought that was her one collosal blunder; her advisors should have warned her to disagree with anything even related to Cheney, and she flatly embraced it. That was a big mistake, which Biden pounced on.

  • Posted By: JoanR @ 10/03/2008 2:51:53 PM

Comment: How about Biden's claim that Obama never promised to meet with Ahmadinejad when he was on the same stage with him at the time? You missed that beaut

  • Posted By: wbpjr001 @ 10/03/2008 2:23:42 PM

Comment: your take on Biden's comments are so skewed. When Biden said "McCain voted exacty the same as McCain on Iraq"", us less sophisticated folk knew what he meant.. Are you factcheckers really that poor at reading and speech comprehension. Even a third grader could deduce what Biden meant, and factually, he was correct - you just did not get the context. McCain did in fact vote agains troop funding, as did Obama. Two totally diffferent bills, but Biden di go to extreme lengths to make that clear. Who's fact chec king the fact checkers. Is Newsweek trying to be "fair and balanced". If so, then I, as part of their core demo, can no longer trust this paper to be objective. Selling out the facts to appeal to a wider audience does not broaden the appeal, it just reminds us of everything that's wrong with news these days.

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 10/03/2008 6:03:10 PM

Comment: Anytime Factcheck says anything to challenge the Cognitive Dissonance of the Obamaphiles, you guys scream factcheck the factcheckers.....hey guess what....the factcheckers aren't perfect and they actually skew things more positive for Obama than McCain....

Comment: People who actually think there is something to discuss, it's not about accuracy. It's about competency and having a knowledge base that allows an individual to support the President in the capacity of Vice President. Governor Palin is being discussed as though she were a potential person to lead as a default if God forbid McCain were elected and unable to fulfill his term. President Bush has already demonstrated it is not possible to lead when one has no intellectual capacity to live up to the position. Why is the media playing along?

Comment: I thought Gov. Palin did fine enough. She spoke clearly on the points she had been prepared on, and avoided topics she hadn't, which was fine; did i think she was dancing around her weaknesses?Sure, but thats not a huge fault, it's basic politics; highlight your strengths, downplay your weaknesses. The fact that she is a skiled communicator in the medium of the televised debate is clear. There was something that came through last night though, and it's not a fault, but a fundemental truth that was inevitable: When you assess Gov. Sarah Palin, you don't see a President of the United States of America. Mind you, she's very good at what she does best, but the times where she produces the "wink and a smile" lines, you see a person that doesn't belong in the role she is being asked to fill. When you see Joe Biden, regardless of your political leaning, you see a person with the poise and demeanor to stand in the role he is filling; when America looks at Sarah Palin, they see a woman they like, but not a person they feel comfortable with leading the nation. Im not going to pretend that it has nothing to do with gender, because in her case it is a factor, and her presentation doesn't ring Presidential. Again, politics aside; when you viewed Hillary Clinton, the femininity did not register, you just saw a calculating and cold politician. With Sarah Palin, you are all to aware of the fact that you are looking at a woman who relies heavily on her charm to compensate for her flaw
