maverick equals reckless let me say this again maverick equals reckless! Do we really need two more reckless mavericks in the white house like we've had for the last eight? Palin scares the hell out of me. One reason there are alot of stupid people that like her and they can vote.

When did elite become a bad word. It means you are better at your task. I would assume thats
an attribute we want in our President. I would hope everyone would choose the intellectual elite
    over the intellectual inferior.

How can traditional and conservative people be "starting" a culture war by trying to keep things in place?

  • Posted By: expatincebu @ 10/04/2008 6:14:34 PM

There is NO culture war. This whole subject is just a big diversion to keep working people divided over silly non issues. THERE IS A CLASS WAR! The wealthy financial and corporate elite have been waging this war against working people for 40 years. They have done so with the full cooperation of BOTH political parties and the corporate owned media.

Keep crying and moaning about "liberals" and "conservatives" and about total non issues like abortion and gay rights. Meanwhile your standard of living falls every year. The fake US economy built on usury and consumption falls further and further down the drain. Keep blaming it on each other while the financial elites keep robbing you.

Just remember, over the next few years and America falls completely apart that you brought it on yourselves.

Quit trying to make it sound like a close race. It's not. We here in the Midwest are noy impressed with Palin. She's marginally competent at best. McCain demonstrated poor judgment in choosing her. His erratic behavior frightens normal Americans. He has no plan. He has no chance.

Palin Schmalin. Reigniting the culture war during the worst economic crisis on the last 70 years is stupid. Painting Democrats a elitist will not work when you have a rich out of touch Republican like John McCain on the ticket who believes the economy is strong. . In 2004 this strategy barely pulled Bush through because of a fear of terrorism. Now he is reviled and the GOP are doggone it, gonna get beat down like dogs.

You are so out of touch with small town America. All you can do is put down this woman. Palin???s alleged lack of experience as the VP candidate compares favaorably to the lack of experience of ???The One???, and he is seeking the Presidency! You hope that while you trash a woman who is trying to do her best for her state and country, we will not notice that the emperor is naked. I particularly loved your term,???gibberish??? to describe the arguments of Ms Palin. It is so so Ivy League and spoken by someone with such a superior intellect. You cannot stand that a woman could choose life for a disabled baby. Exactly when did you loose your heart? You liberal hypocrites would move heaven and earth to save the life of a mountain climber who chose to put his life in peril, but oppose all efforts to save the millions of unborn children who have no say. You are correct about one thing, we are in a culture war. I can only pray that your side does not prevail. Richard Bierly.

    Comment: The Bush Depression

In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide the largest morgage bank in the world,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms. Also, Fanny and Freddy Mae which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States.
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash and we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before.

McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.

Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He either didn't care or didn't realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime.
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a tanking economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit.Bush created a national debt larger then the first 42 presidents combined
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
The chairman of McCains campaign recently said that people don't vote on issues they vote on a personality composite. Which means he is trying to sell you personality instead of results.
Let's teach him we are smarter than that .

31 states are voting now, dont wait
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

Susiequebee, learn to spell before you criticise Palin. at least she has real achievements and does not spout the vapid "change' mantra. We have the misfortune in MA to have to endure a governor who was elected with that mantra (including the equally vapid "Together we can" slogan). He is a joke. If Obama is elected, the joke will be more serious.

Re: Latest endlessly repeated codeword of the tolerant Left for mean thick-skulled ignorance: "resentments."

"[Palin] is expert at tapping into the attitudes and resentments of small town America ??????

Well, at least this a step up, recalling back when any such people--like those few brave environmentalists who dared to question never-ending flood-level immigration?--were merely, endlessly called, "mean-spirited."

I do not respect Sarah Palin... She is not the type of roll model I want my daughter looking up to...She can go after the male population with her winks and cutsey act, but women are to smart to fall for that. This is an election for the next president not a beauty contest and if McCain gets elected and is no longer able to run this country she will be next in charge. Is this what we need ? She can't talk unless she's told what to say. This is Bush in a dress !!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 10/04/2008 5:01:39 PM

Obama can't talk without his own coaching and teleprompter ! Nor can he bring himself to visit wounded troops.
The Obama/ Biden ticket is far left, liberal and committed to an Americans Suck First campaign, which Palin does NOT embrace, making for some very refreshing comment when she's speaking off the cuff!
      She can lead.
Obama is a follower. And full of excuses and explanations when he dosn't follow well.

First, in case you libs aren't aware, you are no longer running against George Bush. I know you wish you were, but to try and compare the two is just downright silly. We all know they are 2 very different politicians.
As for Barack, he IS an elitist snob...has nothing to do with money, and everything to do with his attitude. He tries way too hard to be a "brotha" and it ain't happenin'.
Sarah ROCKS. She IS everything liberal feminists are not, thank God. Can't wait to see her in Washington shakin' things up.

    • Posted By: Susiequebee @ 10/04/2008 5:00:37 PM

Do you realize how immature she is with her eye winking, folksy, cutsie, joe six pack, gotsha, back to ya later attitude? She will someday, if voted VP, be sitting down among Foreign Diginatires and you'd be proud of her sounding like a "redneck" hockey momma who talks and acts like a teeny bopper. The only thing missing is the chewing gum. If she wants to be taken seriously she should at least act like a Woman who is educated.

  • Posted By: chillydogs @ 10/04/2008 4:52:56 PM

McCain = Bush . . . . sorry, but that comes from voting to support Bush 90 percent of the time. They are not different. They are the same. Even if you disagree, McCain insults the voters of America by naming Britney Spears Palin as his VP nominee. All in all, just another episode of "American Idol."

Why do people on the comments drudge up YouTube videos like they're trustworthy and then make insane comments that show just why the culture war exists. Rural Americans and those who are not college graduates have long been shown to buy into lies put worth by the conservatives since they keep telling those poor rural voters to trust them and they'll get rich too. Then what happens? The republicans give wall less restriction and promptly the less restricted corporations used their new found power to slit their own throats.
Now we???re faced with a choice, a 72 year old military brat who has never had to worry about private health insurance or much else in terms of economics since he was a commissioned officer turned US senator and his pitbull of a VP who clearly isn???t smart enough to run a state that requires income tax let alone be trusted to be a tie breaker in the senate OR a Black man with a law degree (along with the accompanying requirements to grant him a technical Ph.D), who spent a majority of his adult life helping the less fortunate and his VP who has spent every night as a senator in his own bed in Delaware taking the train in. This shouldn???t even be a difficult decision, if the culture war was real in the sense that people looked at it for themselves rather than taking the spoon-fed approach from candidates the poor, the rural, the urban, and everybody who isn???t an evangelical Christian or making more than 250,000 dollars would be voting for Barack Obama right now.
Though it does seem that with McCain giving up on Michigan and Obama having a 353 electoral vote position as of today that the American people are finally getting it.

The Ayer's story and association between this domestic terrorist and Obama moved up a notch in the mainstream news media from comments Governor Palin shared in Denver this weekend!
It's the story the MSNMedia supporting Obama don't want anyone to know while the MSNMedia knows all about it! The bombing and the goal of bringing all the violence around the world to the American streets. The cry was "All Power To The People" and "Bring The War Home!"
Some of Ayers associates blew themselves up making bombs, the typical radical socialist is pretty stupid when they feel they got some "cause."
Obama and Biden are socialists and are waging an Americans Suck First campaign! The rest of us all know the USA is a great country of great people! You can learn more about the Ayers guy in Obamas' life and some of the perversions, through an award winning documentary called THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND by Sam Green and Bill Siegal.
    Get informed!
America is a great country! Americans are a great people!
