Obama's family on food stamps, please spare us the drama! His Columbia education was bankrolled by Nadhmi Auchi. His $1.6 MILLION house was bankrolled by Tony Rezko. And, his campaign and political machine was bankrolled by the terrorist Ayers. IF his family was on food stamps, it was only because he could not disclose the money he obtained illegally.

Clift, a saggy East Coast crone, just doesn't get it. Referring to Palin as acting "cheeky" and dredging up Sally Quinn from her ancient tomb in Georgetown, Clift sounds like some 1960's soundbite. Sarah Palin, unlike a lot of the elites that Clift knows, got her power on her own not because her father was Senator so-and-so or her husband ran the Washington Post. Palin's smart, powerful, and connects to people and it scares the hell out of Clift and her ilk who have what they have because of the family they were born into (Caroline Kennedy) or whose family they married into (Sally Quinn). These women have not come close to achieving the power that Palin has and will still amass.

    P.S. Dear Go Sarah (below),
That breath of fresh air is actually the slow leak from her airhead. That's Caribou Barbie in a Miss Alaska pageant, trying to fool voters into believing she is qualified for the second highest position in the world.

She's not wrong...... in your eyes! she's just stupid in our eyes.

This perennial discussion about "culture wars" and "elitists" really is becoming nonsense, in my view.

I think "elitist" is a label that has been assigned negative connotations by the media and the GOP picked up on it (or vice versa) - it's a stupid thing to pick out about any candidate, but particularly about anyone running on merit - like Obama and Clintons both did. What we do need is a MERITOCRACY and smart, smart people running our country.

We do ourselves a collective disservice to call that (erroneously) elitist. What IS "elitist" in the bad sense of the word is a group of ignorant rich boys/girls running our country into the ground on the strength of their ability to hoodwink the middle and blue collar classes. THAT is a CRIME against America and maybe even against the world insofar as our reputation and standing go.

"Nobody wants to be an elitist. In politics, it's a deadly label." This is ironic, since everyone knows the "American Dream" involves enrichment and expansion of opportunity via the collection of wealth and material comforts -- like homes, cars, the "good life" etc... Isn't this what every one of us sort of aspires to? To become an "elitist" of sorts? Isn't this the very reason the GOP is so easily able to capture the working crowd, the rednecks and the trailer tribes across America - they capitalize on the collective ignorance, instill the rhetoric with a little patriotism and a healthy dose of Christian crassness, and they attract all kinds of folks to the GOP ticket.

It sickens me, as a fairly educated voter, to see this happening to our country time and again - the GOP should be lined up and taken out for doing this to our people and our economy. Their anti-elitist cries against Obama and Biden are not only ludicrous, they're blatant lies - and they're projecting their OWN worst traits onto their opponents, knowing it might stick.

Well, maybe this year things will be different. We'll just see how this election plays out. I bet McCain still has a few more stupid tricks up his sleeve, a al GOP style, but I'm hopeful that common sense and intelligence will finally prevail. Rightfully so. Viva the so-called neuvo "Elitists" who are, in reality, deserving elitists who have worked hard to achieve their current status as potential winners of the White House. That would be Obama-Biden, in case I didn't make it clear enough.

Ahhh! you made it very clear and very well said!

  • Posted By: chillydogs @ 10/04/2008 3:27:11 PM

It's the "American Idol" election and people are voting for the performances, not the issues.

Aw shucks - wink wink - doggone it - you betcha - wink wink

There was no substance there, but people ate it up. Will she behave that way in a top level meeting with heads of other countries? She can't or won't answer a straight question. She gets argumentative and says she doesn't want to answer "the media's" questions. Guess what? The voters don't get to ask you individually, so we can only rely on the media to do it for us. Just like the current administration, acting like they don't have to answer to anyone.

Sarah Palin: "John McCain knows how to win a war."

She said so in the debate Of course most of her supporters were immediately transported to the glorious day McCain led American troops in a victory parade through Hanoi. But thanks to Elanor we now know she meant the Culture War!!!!
    Now we know

What war is John McCain winning? The one in his head or the one in Iraq?

Any American who is contemplating voting for Barack Hussein Obama is NOT American !!

There are plans to reveal Barack Hussein Obama 's real disturbing past that will drive anyone with an ounce of intelligence away from this phoney before you can say " Yes we can ".

    (Part VI)

I am a veteran of the United States Military. I was there waiting in Kuwait, eating dust along with the food in my MRE, sometimes not feeling the skin on my fingers because the dust and the cold were making numb the skin lacking regular showers; there was I running around the camp looking after the welfare of all personnel, driving the Ambulance to Camp Doha to do some final orders for eyeglasses for the better visual acuity of the troops. I then went to Iraq, went through the war and came back home, determined to either bringing justice to my military career which I had plan to extend, or to otherwise leave for good. But regardless of how much one sometimes tries to help the world to see, they remain under a veil of selfishness and untrue appearances. Most are afraid to be who they are. Most are afraid to do the right thing, because to do so would mean a harsh existence. I know. I am living proof of such rationalizations. Sometimes at the hypocrite side, but mainly on the sit of the victimized. So I am a good enough legal Resident of the United States Government or foreign-born U.S. Citizen to go to war on behalf of defending the rhetoric of this country, to put my life on the line for the so called American Freedoms and Justice by now inherent in the Constitution, but I am not good enough to run for Presidency, but some who have never come across the horrors of war and the foreign conflicts of bringing about the formulations of the White House to the mere bottom, can freely and legally enjoy the opportunity to lead. I believe that an individual does not necessarily have to live the life of another to being able to properly empathize with that person, and cannot practically do so, however, the Bible also mentions, why should you be telling me to take out the little something that I have in my eye, when you yourself have a big thing in yours that is rendering you more blind. But my hope is that we as human beings can learn to be empathic enough to learn from our mistakes and to embrace the rights and dignity of all human lives, foreign and domestic, regardless of what our personal ambitions may be.

The military is an all-volunteer force. If you were drafted I could see your complaint. The only way to get into the military and thusly into Iraq now days is by volunteering. This is what you did, so stop whining

Do people think like Palin did a great performance? Most of them say she just did "alright". She did her homework and memorized her lines. That's it..! Is she ready to be President of the USA, in case needed? Not for a minute... Do we want a VP who is just "alright". No, we need someone who is outstanding. Biden was outstanding yesterday. The logic is simple! Don't conform with just "alright". Just because she barely managed to "survive" and considering the expectations were really low, means NOTHING. By the way, McCain finished 894 out a class of 899 in the Naval Academy. Mediocre people think alike? Maybe... WE NEED THE BEST! When it comes to contrasting both tickets, the Obama/Biden ticket is the best, by far! Obama has knowledge, judgment, and yes, experience. He has Biden next to him, in case he needs advice from someone with more experience. McCain has doubtful judgment, experience in the senate, limited intellect , health issues, and... Sarah Palin (who can memorize information that someone else wrote for her and... a great smile!). No question here: Obama and Biden are a better deal! Period!

I wear an I on my jacket .Gov Palin's performance was an embarrassment to myself and other working American mothers. The shape of the economy and our involvement in two wars call for prepared leadership and intelligence . I believe her brand of populism will fall short in this election.I watched the debate on CNN and noticed the opinion lines on the focus groups meters drop ,especially among women with all the Gov contrived folksy remarks. It won't work this election

Biden looked on with a mixture of awe and horror...Funny, everyone else saw him look on with a mixture of bemusement and confidence. Only an ignorant like Clift would think that the sad, vapid responses of Sarah Palin were in any way comparable to the self assured, firm, autoritative, and above all CARING responses given by Joe Biden. It's no secret that Clift hates Biden and has for a long time, Clift often hates powerful men who are decent and hard working. But her dellusions that somehoe Joe Biden DIDN"T whup Sarah's hiney, is a new level of dumb...even for her.

  • Posted By: srswofford @ 10/04/2008 1:55:23 PM

Everyone, and especially McCain, is missing Sarah's strong point. Though I do not believe she is "ready," she has an impressive record, short though it is. This distinguishes her from the other three candidates. This cultural stuff is a total turnoff and detracts from what is important. Go Sarah!

  • Posted By: ExDem @ 10/04/2008 8:51:05 AM

To quote another poster on another site, "Palin made moose jerky out of Biden." End of story.

    • Posted By: Keepinguponfacts123 @ 10/04/2008 1:52:34 PM

Were you watching the same debate as everyone else? Because Joe Biden could have mopped the floor with Palin but didn't because the Replublicans would have cryed sexism.

Everyone, and especially McCain, is missing Sarah's strongest point. Unlike the other three, she has an impressive record, short though it is. This culture stuff turns me off and is very destructive of what is important.

As a Latina I'm disgraced by the double standard - her daughter's pregnancy out of wedlock is celebrated but we are crucified when our teens struggle and become pregnant too early - and people are critical of Senator Obama for getting ahead and actually achievieng th eAmerican Dream? Isn't that what they always want us minorities to do? Because othewise we are lazy and don't deserve any help. It's ridiculous - she can wink and look all cutsey if she wants, but this isn't for a pageant win Gov' Palin. Regardless of how incredulous they think we are, Americans are actually smarter, and the last eight years ingrained in us what a huge mistake we made in 2000. NOT AGAIN. Joe Six Pack?? I think he's been in the White House already-
