Factcheck.org accressed the claim that McCain and Palin are making regarding McCain calling for reforms regarding Fannie and Freddie 2 years ago. This is what they said:

McCain in the Vanguard of Mortgage Reform?

Palin said that McCain had sounded the alarm on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago.

Palin: We need to look back, even two years ago, and we need to be appreciative of John McCain's call for reform with Fannie Mae, with Freddie Mac, with the mortgage-lenders, too, who were starting to really kind of rear that head of abuse.

Palin is referring to a bill that would have increased oversight on Fannie and Freddie. In our recent article about assigning blame for the crisis, we found that by the time McCain added his name to the bill as a cosponsor, the collapse was well underway. Home prices began falling only two months later. Our colleagues at PolitiFact also questioned this claim.

Plain got all the initial buzz and support she was ever going to get around the convention. Now she's been exposed as a person who knows very little about the things she ought to. The McCain camp has to keep her as quiet as possible the next month and hope to minimize any further damage she can do. I mean, seriously, not being able to name one case other than the granddaddy of all cases, Roe v. Wade? Not being able to name one time in which McCain's whole time in office in which he has supported any regulation? It's literally like she was plucked from a PTA meeting and thrown into this role. McCain deserves whatever damage she does from the way the campaign pimped her out those first two weeks as the great female reformer who's ready to take on washington. Give me a break.

If Barrack want to win then he needs to address the following issue. Get Hilary's supporters to forgive and forget Barrack collective giving Her and them the finger.

Explain to Bitter Whites that cling to Guns, Religion, Love of American and believe in our Constitution against Invasion and the rule of Law why the largest invasion in world history, of any country, at any time, by any means and that is taking their jobs and lowering their standard of living while killing, robbing and raping American citizens by the 10,s of thousands every year and is slowly but surely changing American into an Spanish speaking third world cesspool of Crime, Corruption, Poverty and Misery, modeled on Mexico, is a good thing for them and American.

If he cannot explain he may even start losing losing black votes since they are the ones paying the greatest price for his pandering for Hispanic votes to fuel his political ambitions and lust for power!

Blacks are starting to realize that Barracks open Borders and Amnesty for the Invading horde will completely disfranchise and destroy the political gains, civil rights & progress made by Black Americans and empower the Racist Hispanics.

He needs to explain why he and most Democrats Believe that Article IV Section IV of our Constitution against Invasion, enforcement of our Immigration Laws and their Oath of office are all null and void!

He needs to convince voters that his election will not start an wealth transfer from the USA tax payers to Africa in accordance with his Black Liberation teaching by his friend and Mentor the Rev. Weight!

He needs to future explain why he thinks Babies born alive after attempted abortion should be denied medical care and left to suffer until they die!

He will need to convince white voters that attending the church of hate, supporting and listening to Hate American, Hate Whites and hate everything but Blacks and Muslims for 20 years while hanging out with criminals, terrorist and racist is no big deal and no harm intended!

Just a nit -- well, maybe not just a nit. All this victimization from liberals. Who "turned John Kerry into a windsurfing Frenchman"? He projected the image that we all project -- the sum total of our aspirations, accomplishments, strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes we underestimate how they will define us in the minds of others. He wanted to look vigorous in his wet suit, but it didn't quite work out that way. So what? That makes him a victim of Republicans?

"You would NEVER EVER have said this about a male governor. EVER and you know it. "

"Cheeky" is winking (multiple times) at the American public during a debate for the second highest office in our country. We would never tolerate that kind of behavior from a male governor. If this woman weren't a woman she would never have been selected.

Eleanor, you column is symptomatic of the problem America is having with columnists and media. You are only too willing to shoot Palin, but could you do any better? Why would you expect her to have a grasp on national and world affairs? She was governor of Alaska. The question is "Can she learn?"

Why don't you put your poison pen to work of the Democrats and their obvious mismanagement of Fannie and Freddie and failure to enact proposed legislation in 2005 that would have averted most of this mess. But no, you would rather go in the tank for them and give the unfettered reign of the government. It is fortunate so few people read your drivil. You and Katy Couric and the rest of the LSM are systematically trying to ruin this great country with your misdirected sense of right and wrong. What is wrong is unethical use of taxpayers money to line the personal pockets of friends and associates. Write something important. Do your job or go into politics so you can be the brunt of your own pen.

We would NEVER tolerate a male governor winking at the American people during a debate for our nation's second highest office. If this woman weren't a woman she would never have been plucked from Alaska.

Degasseu seems to be the kind of tolerant progressive who calls America's most popular governor white trash like a racist Confederate aristocrat, but bawls like a baby if his own candidate's middle name is even mentioned.

By the way, Eleanor (may I call you Eleanor?). Was Obama CHEEKY when he called Senator McCain John during the entire debate even though Senator McCain gave Obama his due by calling him Senator?

Was that CHEEKY? You really really need to look at yourself and see if you have lost all sense of propriety. Can you even IMAGINE calling a male politiician CHEEKY?

Eleanor - your column is typical of elitist thinking. You can sit an criticize Palin for her lack of _______ (fill in the blank) but you could do no better. People in glass houses - why don't you criticize the Democrats for blocking any attempts to bring reason to Fannie and Freddie in 2005? Then I could have respect for you. Katy Couric t asked some very pointed questions that she couldn't think up on her own and had no idea what the answers were either. But she gets a pass because she is LSMedia. You guys are ruining this country and you don't even know it. Great job.

    REIGNITED THE CULTURE WAR?

What a steaming load of crap. The INTOLERANT Ms. Clift views Palin's EXISTENCE as a culture war.

  • Posted By: irishambrose @ 10/04/2008 8:58:16 AM

Cheeky? Who does Eleanor Clift think she is? Sarah Palin is the governor of one of our 50 states, which puts her in an even more "elite" group than being one of 100 senators. Cheeky? How incredibly insutling to think that a Governor and a nominee for Vice President of the United States is "cheeky" to ask if she can call a senator by his first name. You should be very ashamed of yourself.

You would NEVER EVER have said this about a male governor. EVER and you know it.

I used to listen to you but will never do so again.

Excellent column. We've seen this before in Minnesota. His name was Jesse Ventura. Ventura, a self-absorbed, supremely confident white trash populist, hated the media and anyone with a formal education. He fooled us. But we never stopped taking him seriously.
He stayed angry, really angry for his entire time in office. We ran him out of Minnesota. He did only a small amount of damage - but then again he wasn't Commander-in-Chief. By the way, Ventura also had aspirations about running for national office. Palin is now falling in love with the sound of her own office. God help us all.

So, Eleanor, when all the far-left pundits like you say Palin lost the debate, is that objective journalism? Ha! I think that you folks honestly believe that if you say it often enough, it will become fact. The truth is, we middle Americans are great in number, and we think Sarah Palin did a FANTASTIC job against Joe Biden, and she will make a WONDERFUL vice president. Wait until all of us unwashed bitter gun-clingers all over America turn out to vote!!! Obama is dangerous, McCain will keep this country we love so much safe, even for democrats!

Now that the VP debate is history and either candidates "performance" is up to interpretation as to who merits the support of your vote .....I have to ask....to what lengths will that woman go to .... all winking ......self assured smirking and joe six pack references aside......does no one think it abusive to constantly trot out an infant (like she did after the debate) in order appeal to the working - class, hockey mom constituency. The first time she did it (RNC) we were impressed .....this time......you have got to be kidding.

So I guess what we can now conclude from the Palin/Biden debate, some of the ???professional???s??? analysis of the debate, and many of the voter???s blog-responses and comments is that responding to a question with an answer that stays on topic is unimportant. What appears to matter is: if the debater, in answering a question, satisfies our preconceived idea of the truth-any truth--, if they are likeable and attractive (whatever that means), and if they are like us (once again, whatever that means). But isn???t that like answering the question, ???How do I get to Chicago??? with, ???I once went to the Grand Canyon, and it was truly one of the best places you could ever visit.??? delivered with a wink and a smile. Personally, I want to know where a candidate stands on all the issues that are pertinent to the office they are seeking. This includes answering the tough questions along with the easier questions. If they choose to use their rehearsed talking points in their responses so be it, but, at the very least, I look for some answers to be original and thoughtful. Hopefully, this is not asking too much of the ones that will lead our country for the next four years, and, hopefully, the voters will collectively make their voting decisions based on these on-point answers and political stands.

Here is another slant on the sc-called culture war. The true culture war is between the CEO's who had no regard for the employees that lost their jobs when they decided to move their production overseas. Some of them certainly might have valid claim to "retraining" and certainly some companies were able to incorporate their employees into other jobs within the company. But the majority simply doled out severance pay and perhaps some payment towards learning computer skills (for telemarketing or CSR work? It was never quite clear). That is the true culture war.
Recently Angela Merkel (are we allowed to talk about other world leaders without getting the Right upset?) was asked why her country was relatively economically stable. She had a very simple answer, that I paraphrase: because we haven't forgotten how to make things.
