    (Part IV)
I see and read articles claiming that the majority of Americans surveyed or polled say that they would support or vote for a qualified Gay Candidate. I know that gay people have strong financial and social resources. So where is the problem? So I tell myself that I will run for Presidency of the United States and in doing so not only will the world see the justice of the first Gay Presidential Candidate, but will also in double-benefit attain one that is also Hispanic and foreign-born, a naturalized American Citizen, who nowadays does, speaks and even thinks primarily in the English language. But wait a minute! Then I realize, if I am not mistaken, a foreign-born American Citizen cannot run for the Presidency of the United States. So there I go again, looking for articles on the subject in the Internet. And thus, I come across an article titled ???Schwarzenegger: Let foreign-born seek White House.??? But then just a little into the article I come across the following statement: ???Schwarzenegger reaffirmed his opposition to the gay marriages that are taking place in San Francisco. He said Mayor Gavin Newsom's refusal to obey the state's law against same-sex marriages could set a bad precedent [2].??? However, before he had made that statement he also said: "There are so many people in this country that are now from overseas, that are immigrants, that are doing such a terrific job with their work, bringing businesses here, that there's no reason why not," said Schwarzenegger, who became a U.S. citizen in 1983. "Look at the kind of contribution that people like Henry Kissinger have made, Madeleine Albright," he said, referring to two former secretaries of state who were born in Europe [2].??? And there is the great hypocrisy of seeking fairness for some, and denying the legal rights of others. It is a researched fact that marriages improve the propensity of human beings to being less promiscuous and thus to contribute to the betterment of the overall health of society. So why deny gay (and when I say ???gay??? I always project also the term for ???lesbian???) people the opportunity to have such a just legal standing. To me a marriage certificate is nothing more than a paper, because true loyalty to somebody or something cannot be written on paper, but it does provide for many legal protections that living in an imperfect and generally unfairly biased world necessitates. And in doing so more gay teenage individuals prone to much instability in their love affairs would seek to settle down in a faithful family life style with the person of their preference. That is something that intelligent heterosexual individuals accept in the comfort of their private lives, but which they selfishly deny in public.

But here is the problem, perhaps the attempts have been made, but I found none when I searched the Internet. I cannot find articles about gay people running for office in this presidential campaign. So why the furious claim from gay/lesbian organizations that their political leaders are committing injustice, when what would give us the greatest advantage would be to postulate and support ourselves a Gay Person for the U.S. Presidency. I am very naïve and fairly ignorant in what it takes to get to this level of a presidential campaign, but I am certain that we can fight much harder and wiser in attaining our goals for a better, most just and civilized society. It has been done in the past with ???David McReynolds, who ran as the nominee of the Socialist Party in 1980 and 2000- gaining approximately 5,000 votes in each election (1).??? Whoever, to reach its destination a vehicle must keep running, and it is not for lack of good potential gay candidates that we must delay or weaken the momentum.

    (Part II)

How can we have the first Black candidate to potentially become the President of the United States, and the first woman with high chances of becoming the vice-president of the same government, to embrace the fact that the great freedom and justice that we enjoy today in the United States as the result of the struggle of black and women movements for civil rights have provided this most fair and great opportunity, and meanwhile, to publicly declare a blunt ???No??? to the civil rights of other oppressed minorities of the United States of America, those people who whether by genetic factors or by choice have come to embrace the fact that they love and wish to marry a person of their same gender? I ask you something: ???Do all heterosexual marriages go into their legal union with the imminent or long-term intention of having children, of procreating? The answer is a blunt, but in this case fair, ???NO.??? Many heterosexual couples who seek marriage do not wish to have children at all. While other heterosexual marriages cannot even genetically procreate. So why the difference in denying legal rights to homosexual couples because they can???t essentially at present procreate? Is that justice and fairness? What is there natural about heterosexual couples going to a reproduction clinic to alter the genetic makeup they were born with in order to being able to have children in ways that are artificial in essence? What is there natural about taking medications made from unnatural chemicals and processes? And yet, those medications have improved the overall health and have extended the life expectancy of human beings, while at the same time quite often preventing the death of those experiencing life-threatening situations. So why does the world, but especially politicians in their ability to bring about true justice and equality of opportunity, publicly embrace some legal rights and deny others? Why do they refuse to balance justice when they live and are sometimes the products of unnatural lives or lifestyles while at the same time denying Gay people who love each other the publicly legal declaration and rights of their union because the majority of the people, who unfortunately are usually led by face-value make-believe rhetoric and appearances, hold the greater voting power? Are they in this process of legal elections then primarily for the attainment of office, regardless of the known violations of people???s rights. The sad reality is that these are well educated, intelligent individuals, who similar to many religious people who favor hypocrisy to maintain their social standing, violate that which they know is right, in order to attain or maintain their selfish materialistic desires, and unfortunately the precursors of the downfall of a fair and humane society.

Schwarzenegger: Let foreign-born seek White House

    October 3, 2008

I need to register for a class, ???PAD 4414 (Personal Skills for Administration) being offered by Florida International University at the Stephen Clark Building/Government Center in Downtown Miami. But it is a mini/dynamic session class and I was not able to register for the class on my own on the computer, so I went to the Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU where I am currently taking a criminal justice class in Law Enforcement, and I was directed at Enrollment Services to speak with a lady in charge who manually registered me for the class. Among the things that we talked about in our brief interaction was the voting issue for the 2008 U.S. Presidential Elections, and although I told her the reasons why I don???t vote, she told me that I should vote not for the person running for Presidency, but for the issues that they represent, and I told her that I would strongly consider her advise and that if I voted for the first time it would be in her honor for having put things in that perspective. But I am a very cautious person in the long-term implications of things, and thus I gave myself the proper amount of time to learn other perspectives, especially because I have never been too involved in political issues, as opposed to my father who although fervently opposing politics and being actively involved in a religion that backs his position, spends a great part of the day listening and excited about political issues for as long as I can remember. So the time that it took for me to broaden my knowledge and perspective in the critical issues that would prevent me or drive me to vote was rather expeditious. Yesterday I spoke with that lady and today after learning that both political candidates and their parties oppose the legality of Gay Marriages, that did it for me.

Palin is a political blow up doll. Empty, except for the impromptu infusion of hot air from the McCain camp. We are a sexy nation of idiots.

She is just like Obama... gibberish and words but no substance. Obama's problem is that like Mccain and Biden they have never even signed a check let alone run something. They are merely talkers who write laws. That is why senators should never and are rarely made president. Usually Americans are too smart to even consider a US Senator due to their inability to run anything and their desire to spend our money.

I guess the bailout was another lie to reward bad people who contribute to reelection campaigns. The stock market crashed and middle America is on the hook for $700 B to give to wealthy sleazy Wall streeters. I just wonder where these people selling this bailout (corporate wealfare) were 6 months ago. If it was that big an issue why didn't anyone know 6 months ago? This didn't happen overnight.

Palin is proving that we are the most sexist country in the world. We are worse than Iran.

What is truly sad ... is when people say that they want truly truly smart people to run our country. smart in which way? text book smart for learning about the law and no NOTHING about economics, but speaks well so people THINK you know about economics? Or to have absolutely NO experience and still run for office after 1.5 years of treading the senate... the other 1.5 running for another position? If you want TRULY smart people, you should be looking at scientists, economists... not a lawyer who knows how cheat the system. IF your sole ideal for a president is book smart and has ways w/word and NO life experience, then I guess Obama is your idiot. I am sick and tired of people calling the other ticket names... so... I've decided to join in the name calling! You want to talk about whether voters for McCain/Palin ticket is well informed... perhaps you should look at the Obama voters... who are being taxi'd in to register and vote for on the same day... who cares if they're underaged. THAT is CRAP!

      Hey K

You've had your idiot in office for 8 years. Haven't you had enough yet?
Your choice now is clear: Obama or the girl who didn't get the head hairdresser position at J.C. Penny's ( She will be the President, don't you realize that?).

Sarah Palin may or may not be a sweetheart. But she certainly is undereducated in many more ways than one.

Please!!-Ohio, Indiana and Florida- don't stick it to us ,and the rest of the nation, again.

We can't afford it and neither can you (admit it, it's the first step).

It seems to me more and more, the so-called culture war is a convenience for the right. They can constantly and consistently use it as the new boogie man, since they can't use blacks for that any longer. They need a cultural enemy to rally those who are unable or unwilling to listen and learn and decided. It is the most shameful way of politics but seems to be always used by parties on the extremes. Look what Hitler accomplished or the new Austrian right. Meanwhile, on "Main Streets" across the country what I've seen is a grand amelioration between the counter-culture of yesteryear, and the Chamber of Commerce of always. We have arts festivals that booster the local town economise. We have artists in residence in schools. We have people on local school boards, of any persuasion working together. And we certainly have people of any political persuasion smoking dope. What the culture war is really turning into is something nastier. It is a belief that anyone with intellect is suspect. This is something that Aldous Huxley warned us all about. I'm scared, with Palin at the helm, it could come true. Maverick sounds like a nice label, but when in essence it is a vote for being blind to facts, and science and disvalues intellectual endeavor, it is a grave danger indeed.

An interesting, but unlikely, proposal that McCain will be using the theory of cultural hegemony as a strategy of garnering votes in the waning days of the Presidential race. The power of influence needed to fight this battle actually resides on the side of the liberals--with their dominant possession of the voice in mass media, education, and other mass organizations. If anything, the more likely scenario has been, and will be, Obama accusing McCain of cultural elitism. Some Obama supporters have already expressed their anti-capitalist dislike for John McCain property ownership, and Sarah Palin's fundamentalist Christianity. So, actually the culture war is already being launched by the Obama and Biden side!

The whole discussion is just plain dumb.

We need really smart people, smarter than us (the average Joes and Jills), to run our country and to manage the complexities of the economy (albeit not directly, but through policies and appointed experts), and to ensure that opportunities are extended to the vast majority of us rather than relegated to the very rich and top 1% of the country, as the GOP is so good at doing.

There is nothing about "wealth redistribution" in the party platform - but there is tax redistribution, if that's what you're so afraid of. Basically, if you and your spouse earn more than a quarter-million per year, you'll be taxed a little bit higher. The taxes go up more when you hit the mutli-millions, but they won't exceed what they were under Reagan or Clinton (the former of whom raised taxes six times during his two-term presidency, and the latter of whom kept the same levels and raised capital gains a bit higher).

The corporations in our country have found plenty of ways to avoid paying their share of taxes altogether during the past decade with the Republicans in control.

Obama-Biden will even the playing field a bit and use the taxes wisely to help expand the helping hand the government can often bring to those in need, occasionally. What's wrong with that? Would you rather have leadership whose policies consistently favor the very richest 400 entities / people in this country? I'm not Robin Hood myself, but it sure sucks when you see what these policies have brought to us all - my own personal investments have taken a nose-dive as have everyone's, thanks to the "artful Dodger" policies of George W. Bush and Co.

Joe Biden was terrific. He was well-spoken, sounded intelligent and human, and he was respectful and inspiring. I am glad I had an opportunity to hear him express his views and get to know him. I am very comfortable with the idea of him becoming President in the event it were necessary. The debate left me very hopeful that reason and peace will be restored in November. I think Obama/Biden will restore America's hope and respect around the world. In fact, I bet there will be celebrations everywhere. If that's elitism, I'm all for it. The whole idea that this young black man from South-side Chicago is being labeled "elitist" is laughable and no one is buying it. He is a good man and will have the support of a strong community of faithful, educated and yes, underprivileged people in America as well. I am very proud to vote for Obama/Biden in November. The debate sealed the deal for me and my family.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 10/03/2008 8:57:04 PM

HOORAY! I bet the parties and the celebrations will be like no other inauguration. I can hardly wait to join in from afar!!! My friends here (in Houston) will be dancing on the tables - at least some of them will...not all. But the thought that we will elect two super-great, intelligent candidates who have worked HARD to achieve so many ambitions and dreams in their lives - it's just a huge inspiration to us all!

I will finally be REALLY proud to be American, once again.

Thankfully the culture war has been re-ignited. Most Americans simply overlook the misery the self officiating intellectual elite have caused for married mom and dad familiies with children. That is sufficient reason for me to like Palin. If two parent families gain some respect, America will thrive again. Who is giving us a tax break? McCain that's who. He will double our child deduction, and God knows if you have a few kids you need a break, rather than a haughty Obamabot NOW scoul.

Only a fine God fearing woman such as Sarah Palin can bring America back to her traditions from the days men and dinosaur roamed the Earth.

So leftist media types are ridiculously biased? We are also very, very mean, and annoying with all our gotcha questions...or so I hear these days. Also, I hear that conservatives don't rant nearly as much as we liberals do. So the opposite of us is what? You? Then who would be the opposite of everyone then? We don't really need that diversity among her own familly and friends Palin was so proud of ranting about in the debate do we? Not in this country. Wait, I should be more patriotic (even though I am a sarcastic liberal)..Not in MY country (if I added "tis of thee" and spoke in tongues, would I get a place at that big wide GOP table then?). Ah, does anyone remember the good old days when Ann Coulter said we just mentally ill?

  • Posted By: FrannieLou @ 10/03/2008 8:34:41 PM

Newsweek is so biased and so left wing that it's been years since it's had any credibility with me and my family. Gibson and Couric were horrible interviewers who were out to get her from the start--it was obvious--condescending, impolite. Yes, the culture war continues and many of us are on the side of the USA, not the lefties! Frances Nystrom, California
