This columnist is obviously still caught up in the cultural war - on the losing side. My grandparents didn't immigrate to this country so I could become a redneck, they could have stayed in the old country for that. Education, social advancement and cultural sophistication are considered by my family marks of acheivement.

Golly, I didn't see "Joe" looking on with awe and horror. Gosh darnit, there you thinly disguised Palin Pumpers go again--Burnt Sienna Lipstick and B.S. Nancy, a female, 51, not a misogynist but a feminist. P.S.--Goll.

It's more elitist to assume the "middle class" is a bunch of schlubby Joe Sixpacks who'll vote for a mom in smart girl glasses with a wink and a smile.

Thank you for an informative article. How can we even consider voting for a woman who has so little grasp of international issues? I don't care who is elite and who is not; I care that my leaders are highly intelligent, extremely competent, and able to think well in a crisis. I do not see any of these qualities in Palin. She offers us pretty, well-scripted, and ordinary at best.

The division in this country is turning into a gaping wound. There is a dangerous hatefulness replacing people's passion, and I sense a reckless devil-may-care decision by McCain and Palin to deepen the division in order to gain power just as I saw that in Bush as he used fear and is using fear to push through radical policies that effect every American. It is not elitist to want my President to be smarter than I am. The President of the United States of America is the most powerful job on Earth. Look at our standing in the world after 8 years of a beer buddy in the White House? I want Washington filled with diversity in policies. I want bipartisanship to be a thing of the past. I know that occasionally the pendulum needs to swing from conservative to liberal a or from liberal to conservative but it's our duty as voters to make sure we never swing that pendulum too far. We've swung too far if we are willing to elect a President and Vice President based on how NOT intelligent they are and how fun they would be at the back yard picnic. The most powerful leader in the free world people! At least they should be vaguely interested in ideas, shouldn't they? Is it really more fun to roll the dice with our lives and our livelihoods?

What culture war? She bemoans Washington insiders yet seeks to become one. She is a Republican seeking office on their ticket but rejects their record. Why is she a Republican and not an independant then? She claims McCain is a maverick even though Biden showed that claim to be the bulshit it is. This woman is an idiot and the Republicans have shown how sexist they are by putting this granny Clampett forward.

I found the terns: "Redistribution of wealth" troubling in redefining calling for the well salaried to carry their share of taxes. All the while insisting Government shouldn't be involved in regulatin', exceptin' of course, regulatin' those evildoers on Wall Street. Yes Sirree, bye-golly Bob.

Isn't it a shame we have sunk so low as to consdier it "not so bad" to be "short on facts" when running for the second highest offcie in the land? Especially considering the shape we are in right now.

Great and well rehearsed performance, Sarah, but no one is fooled. Truth is, gal, you don't have the goods, or even the sense to realize that you are not running for Hockey Mom of the Year (which, by the way, I know something about since I won that local contest!), you are running for higher stakes. So get real, gal! McCain has insulted us working folks by choosing you for the guys to oogle when they google. Step down, since you have taken myy vote away from McCain 'cause the thought of you in the white house is terrifying

    a real hockey mom,

It is really unfortunate that we have dome to a place where is it acceptable to be "short on facts" when running as VP in a country with the state of affairs of this one.

What is so wrong with being an "elitist"? I personally would like to have someone who is smarter and more educated than most of the population leading this country. We had the "guy next door" leading us for 8 years and look where that got us? Obama is down-to-earth and can relate to the public, along with being knowledgeable and having a plan. He also possesses the charisma and leadership qualities we need to pull America and its reputation around the globe out of the gutter that it has fall into.

And beware of false prophets--the slogan repeating kind. Change, hope, blah blah blah, give me the keys to the white house.

Palin would make a great president of the local PTA, but if anyone actually listened to her they would have heard NOTHING SUBSTANTIAL come out of her well-rehearsed performance, and that is what it was. A show. So if I'm going to give a 'shout-out', it can only be, Sarah. You don't have the goods, or even the sense to realise that we are not talking about cookie sales (and yes, we ALL have done them a million times for our kids!) we are talking about a nationion that is crumbling and heeds the right fix.

In its modern usage, hubris denotes overconfident pride and arrogance; it is often associated with a lack of knowledge combined with a lack of humility. An accusation of hubris often implies that suffering or punishment will follow, similar to the occasional pairing of hubris and nemesis in the Greek world. The proverb "pride goes before a fall" is thought to sum up the modern definition of hubris. In reference to someone being in hubrity: hubrity is a fulfillment of being hubristic or a continual behavior of being prideful. Victor in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein exudes hubris in order to become a great scientist, but is eventually regretting this previous desire. Faustus in Christopher Marlowe's play Dr. Faustus exudes hubris, all the way until his final minutes of life.
