LudwigVanBeet, Nins, Smilin Jack, Notrepublican, RO in Reno, Fineman, and you other crackpot liberals,

How does it feel conversing with a Republican that has done his homework and can shoot you down around every corner? I have stooped awfully low to come to this blog and converse with you, but I know that I must post the real truth, because I am sure that even intelligent people read this blog. I, like Senator McCain, Governor Palin, and many other intelligent Americans are putting America first and are determined to save our great country. We love our country, andwe can see the lowlife, corrupt, evil, angry, America haters trying to destroy our great country. And, you must understand that we will not stand by and let you do that! Our forefathers have fought back greater and more powerful enemies than you. Count your blessings and your days!

Jim, kudos to you for having the courage to speak up concerning what is going on in this country, I agree completely. Thank you!

Yeah. He has the courage to post fact-free nonsense in response to thoughtful cogent posts. I wonder if he's paid by the post. What's the going rate for posting a discredited smear?

"How does it feel conversing with a Republican that has done his homework"

I'm still waiting for that creature to arrive.

Do Obama and the Democrats deserve a lift in the polls as a result of the financial and mortgage problems? The answer from history is a clear NO. Here's the lead of a New York Times story on September 30, 1999:

"Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending " [link below]. That's 1999 folks. Clinton Administration, I believe.

Here's the lead of a New York Times story on Sept. 11, 2003:

"The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago." [see link below] TheDemocrats killed it.

McCain said in co-sponsoring the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190:

"If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole. " The Democrats killed it.

What was Barney Frank and fellow Democrats saying at the time of these attempted reforms? According to reports, Representative Barney Frank(D-MA) claimed of the thrifts :

"These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis, the more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."

Representative Mel Watt (D-NC) added of the reforms "I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing." [ See Community Reinvestment Act, link below w/ history]

Wow, you made the same mistake twice even after being corrected. You should run for president. Clinton was impeached in 1998. I know it's so hard for you to actually look stuff up, but can you try at least. Because even though your screenname says nowforthetruth, all i've seen is lies and opinions attempted to be represented as facts. For you to even have that screenname and say what you say, it's deeply disturbing.

      • Posted By: sportlock009 @ 10/06/2008 6:38:51 PM

Disturbing is a wee little boy who in order to gain acceptance from his peers he feels he has to broadcast he is not a republican. Basically a "hey sheep, I'm one of you" don't attack me. Sad isn't it?

    The Antichrist!:
When George Soros failed to obtain the election of his candidate, John Kerry, in 2004, he brooded for a while, even said he might get out of politics altogether, but he just couldn???t stop himself. He has stated publicly that he wishes to burst the ???bubble of American supremacy,??? because he says our preeminence in the world is a detriment to global ???equilibrium.??? So far, he has failed, but he keeps on trying.

And Mr. Soros has made no secret either of the fact that he sees the shortest way to effect political shake-ups, what he terms ???regime changes,??? is through very difficult economic conditions.

America has not yet felt the full force of Soros style economic shock treatment. But others have.

Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England. He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight.

When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it. Soros was accused by the Malaysian Prime Minister of causing the collapse with his monetary machinations, and he was branded in Thailand as an ???economic war criminal??? who ???sucks the blood from the people.??? Right in the middle of this crisis, Soros dashed off his book, The Crisis of Global Capitalism, which demanded a ???third way??? toward economic stability.

Wake up, America, before it is too late!!!!

The next guy is going to need a lot more than luck, he will need expertise in political areas which change almost on a daily basis. I will vote for the one whom I feel has that expertise---McCain/Palin. I do not trust Obama's ability to lead, nor do I trust the direction in which he is leading. He appears to be more along the lines of a dictator than a president of a free country, with his attitude of "This is the way we will do things!" McCain appears more into doing what the people want. I just can't take Obama seriously when he aligns himself with the likes of the Rev. Wright, who sounds like a raging, fanatical lunatic. I know Obama has distanced himself from Wright, but I feel that was strickly a political move, and once he was elected, he wouold be right back in his company. Somebody wants Obama in the White House pretty bad, and that somebody or organization is working behind the scenes, trying despertly to assure it happens, and that is why the rest of us need to be aware and to make every effort to prevent their success. Vote for common sense promises, not for promises which sound good, but in reality are nothing but empty boxes, decorated with lovely lies.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 10/09/2008 7:47:17 PM

You are free to vote as you like. The rest of us in the reality based community will vote the other way. Looks like your side's going to lose this one. My condolences.

A half crazy Old Man soon shows his sick side as he gets older, and that is what the people are seeing in McCain. Only not just angry but on the verge of Lunacy. Why else would he have picked Palin over Romney.

    • Posted By: star3 @ 10/07/2008 1:03:39 AM

Ludwig, I am one of those "people" of which you speak, and what I am seeing ln McCain, as are many more "people", is a smart man who knows his politics forwards & backwards, and selecting Sarah Palin was a very decisive & wise choice on his part. Why else would there be so much static over the selection of a VP, unless she has something going which scares the socks off the Democrats, and that something is a no nonsense approach to situations, and a plain spoken politician, and this is a different type of politician which appeals to the people. She speaks WITH them---not AT them. She speaks their language. We, the people, like the McCain/Palin combination

      • Posted By: LudwigVanBeet @ 10/07/2008 2:32:07 AM

That is why the McCain camp is on average 7 points behind in all polls. We the people are speaking.

        • Posted By: Jim Johnson @ 10/07/2008 10:29:54 AM

McCain is behind in the polls because ignorant, inmature, lazy Americans just can't get their heads out of Obama's ass. How does it smell up there, Fineman?

          • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 10/09/2008 7:46:17 PM

It's funny how Americans are "inmature[sic], lazy" when they support a Democrat, but are smart and patriotic when they elect a Republican. Telling.

        • Posted By: star3 @ 10/08/2008 1:53:19 AM

I never pay attention to polls, as they have not proven to be accurate, and I question who is doing the polling. I don't believe in looking to polls to get the truth. November will tell.

          • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 10/09/2008 7:45:18 PM

"I never pay attention to polls..." unless they are in your favor, methinks.

    • Posted By: Jim Johnson @ 10/07/2008 10:27:53 AM

A completely crazy middle-aged man is so dangerous for this country. Old man McCain is an American hero and middle-aged Obama is a hero to the terrorists and radical leaders of the world. McCain has the backing of mature and intelligent American people and Obama has the backing of Ayers, Wright, Farrakhan, and Hamas and other terrorist groups.

  • Posted By: Jim Johnson @ 10/07/2008 8:43:10 AM

Howard Fineman is a liberal idiot that really believes what he says. He even goes on MSNBC and looks like a fool.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 10/09/2008 7:43:56 PM

You truly are dumb. There's nothing biased about Fineman's article. It will be tough for either candidate. Crying "bias" when you don't agree is the last argument of a scoundrel who doesn't have the facts on his side.

  • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 10/07/2008 8:43:14 AM

it would be funny to see obama face a federal grand jury indictment on november 1st this way he won't have to be impeached! resko is singing like a canary !!

    • Posted By: Jim Johnson @ 10/07/2008 2:02:05 PM

Obama, along with many Democrats, a few Republicans, and the executives of the failed financial institutions should be investigated and tried before the American people!

      • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 10/09/2008 7:42:32 PM

Sure, we'll get to that trial after Bush and Cheney are tried for war crimes.

  • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 10/07/2008 10:44:43 AM

I certainly hope Panetta is wrong, to return this country to what is was or what it could be is going to take not just a lot of effort but a very long time.

I have noted the mindless posters who call Obama an "empty suit" or the "do nothing Senator. The fact is Obama has done more in the last 30 years than McCain, Palin, Bush, Cheney and these posters all combined.
Unless of course you consider the economic devastation an accomplishment.

It is going to take a lot of effort and time to just get this country back to where it was 8 years ago, let alone move it forward from the point it was.
After a careful look at what Obama has done with his time for the past 30 years, he is the man for the job, but he will need all the time he can get.

    • Posted By: Jim Johnson @ 10/07/2008 2:00:19 PM

I hope we never go back to where we were. I hope we take our great country forward. I lived during the Carter days and it was pure hell! Obama will take us back to the Carter days. He is following in his footsteps.

      • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 10/09/2008 7:42:05 PM

It's funny how Cons skip the Clinton years and go straight to Carter. Maybe it's because they know that the public has a very favorable opinion of how Clinton handled the economy as evidenced by his high approval rating when he left office.

The link below contains a purported list of the top 25 in Congress who got contributions from the folks at Fannie and Freddie. Obama is listed third, after Dodd and Kerry, even though Obama is just a junior Senator. Obama is followed next by Clinton. Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi are on the list as well.

Then there is the Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Dodd who allegedly got special mortgage deals from Countrywide, who gave preferential rates to 'friends' of company's chairman.

So far it's: Afghanistan, Iraq, Katrina, and the economy. Brace yourselves - we still have three plagues to go.

Jim, tsk, tsk, thats an insult to the apes, ha ha! It is extremely frightening that so many people are fooled by this phoney masqueradeing as a human, when it should be obvious to anyone with a working brain that he is the epitome of evil, with his plans to gain control of our country, then along with his supporters who are working behind the scenes, trying to assure their plans get innto place, will proceed to "change" America, but it won't be positive changes, not even for the ones who are attempting to put him on the throne, and for the voters who are dazzled by his promises and ability to speak what they want to hear, will see a different Obama. They should take a lesson from past history, Hitler was a charismatic speaker, also, and managed to convince the German people that he could turn their country into a great nation, where everyone would prosper. He lied. He wanted power, he wanted to "change" the world into his idea of perfection. He was wrong on all counts. History has shown what happens when humans think they are capable of doing a better job than God. Obams may be "sincere", but its a sincerety born of devotion to himself and his desires, not those of the people. You liberals had better re-think, use your head for something besides holding your ears apart, before its too late, and the serpent has his fangs into you.

What truth did you impart? Bush is truly an abject failure. 80% of the public knows this. You can rarely get 80% of the public to agree on anything, but they all agree on the pathetic job Bush has done.

  • Posted By: Nins @ 10/07/2008 2:13:12 PM

The GOP is grasping at straws. They have nothing substantive against Obama, but boy are they good at making up lies. This is the leading Karl Rove tactic for years, and if America falls for this again we should be ashamed of ourselves. Not to mention the obvious fact that this is all a smokescreen to keep the focus off of the fact that Palin and her Alaska associates are in contempt of court for refusing to testify in the Troopergate hearings. After Nixon and Clinton, Americans are to some extent jaded, but really, would you want a VP who refuses to attend hearings in her own defense, and instructs her employees not to testify? That smells like guilt. It surely doesn't give the impression that she has done no wrong and has nothing to hide.

This year, the GOP offers you an angry old man and a woman who, while personable, is desperately uniformed about national and international issues. Both of them are far right politically. McCain used to be a maverick, but since 2004 he's voted 90% with Bush. McCain's policies are not original or reformist, despite how he's tried to co-opt Obama's popular message of change. Please go to the websites of both of the candidates and read their platforms. Obama's Blueprint for Change has more good ideas than McCain's plan. Compare them yourself. Obama's basic premise is that tax dollars should be spent to make America stronger and to improve the lives and well being of our people. For example, he uses education programs to train a new technology workforce, contributing to energy independence, creating jobs and improving the economy. When you read McCain's plan you will find no over-arching design to get America back on track. Instead you'll find more tax cuts for the wealthy, de-regulation of the health care industry, and a stated intent to overturn Roe v. Wade.

I'm a Republican. Although I embrace some forward-thinking social values, in the past I've rarely voted Democrat. My thinking was that since Republicans grow robust economies, by voting Republican I'd be endorsing a plan that would grow wealth for our nation, and then we'd be able to afford social programs. It was a good strategy for a couple decades, but I have to say that the tenure of W. Bush has changed my mind. Not only is there nothing fiscally responsible about today's GOP, the insidious alignment of the party with religious intolerance has really turned me off.

On the other hand, the intelligent luminous thought of Barack Obama has ignited my patriotism. I want a President who puts America first and can get the economy back on track. In my mind, values voting takes a back burner when we are faced with a meltdown of the economy. It is time for a change, a real change. The Republicans have controlled the Presidency for 28 of the past 40 years, but they have fallen down on the job. The Democrats have a stellar candidate this year, and I am voting for Obama.

Ludwig, It wasn't stubborness that caused Senator mcCain to go to Viet Nam, it was his belief in doing what his heart told him was the right thing. He is neither deceitful nor angry, and if he is ever angry, its because he sees what the lying liberals are attempting to do to our country, and i find it absolutely incredible that any thinking person can not see this, as well, which tells me the only ones who can think and who are observant are conservatives. You bring up Senator McCain's shameful past, but have you,. also, bothered to check into Senator Obama's ugly past, also, his questionable present associates? If you want to learn some facts about some of those, go to this website: larrysinclair.org/ if you have the guts to look at the other side of the coin, since you are so interested in presenting the truth. Neither man walks on water, nor has claimed to, but if you're going to post facts you have heard about one, then, be fair, and post them about the other as well. You want some more examples of past presidents who have been less than honorable leaders? How would you evaluate Bill Clinton, who had an affair with a teenager while in office, then lied about it consistantly, and was impeached for it? You want to quote facts about past leaders, current leaders, potential leaders, O.K. we can do that, but let me remind you that, unless we elect Jesus Christ, you will never get a perfect leader, ans last I heard, he wasn't on the ballot, so we'll just have to deal with imperfect, fallible humans.

I hope you're right, my friend. I hope that Obama gets more scrutiny, however the MSM has telegraphed their focus until Nov. (thus far). They have telegraphed that they will coast on Obama and amplify every "new" attack from the McCain campaign.

It is intensely and personally infuriating to me that Sen. Bob Dole lost his campaign in 1996 that Bush 41 lost in 1992, we are feeling the reprocussions of those losses and the American electorate gives the Dem. party a pass! H. W. Bush, knew from tutelage under Reagan, how to deal with the break up of the Soviet Union and led us on a path to help Russia deal with the break up of their country in a dignified way. Clinton and Bush 43 FAILED in their diplomacy with Russia and now the next president must deal with a Russia that is angry at the "Western" styles changes that put them through harsh economic conditions while the US was flying high off the Tech Boom.

What is it with our electorate that is turned off by men who have strong principles but have had to compromise on legislation after legislation to get it passed? Why do we hate that?

MSM and Obama is wrong. McCain is not reeling from an association with Bush. America knows that McCain is not anything like Bush. McCain's father could have kept McCain out of the line of fire in the Vietnam War, but he didn't - we know opposite occured with the Bushes. McCain does not go spouting off Biblical phrases during campaign speeches or claim Jesus is his hero. McCain's actions actually back up his rhetoric about being a conservative - he is staunchly opposed to spending more than we make, unlike Bush who has ballooned our deficit. I could go on...

And yet because he stylistically didn't out manuever Obama, he is behind. Amazing.

My parents support Obama. I tell them like I tell the rest of you. You will deserve what you get if vote for Hussein. His rhetoric doesn't match his record and his teetering to the middle is very familiar.

Clinton teetered toward the middle, but he had a record to substantiate his rhetoric. I am not interested in grab-bag presidencies. I want to know what I'm gonna get.

We only know one man running for President can back up his rhetoric. The other is just hoping you believe him before any of his dirt comes out.

      Your parents are smart.

I am sure Obama is going to win he's got the ACORN factor on his side. And your right it will only be for one term.

Acorns are for squirrels, and there is a big one on their butt as we speak, who is investigating their activities, one of which is registering voters who are not qualified, but what the hey, if the Clinton gang could register people who had been dead for years, why not close our eyes to a little thing like this? I'll tell you way not, because to close out eyes to this kind of illegal activity would be to close America's doors to freedom, to prosperity, and to what we have always been proud to refer to as "The greatest nation on Earth." While I'm on a roll here, let me get a few things straight. Being the greatest nation does not mean we have to be everybodies big brother/sister; it does not mean we have to give sanction to illegal immigrents, or to give them any benefits which they have not earned; who are we trying to impress, anyway? The goveronment sure as hell is not impressing it LEGAL residents! Why should we pay taxes so that part of it can be given to some illegals who did not have the patience to wait to come here legally? Oh sure, I understand there are sometimes, circumstances which make it difficult to get legal papers, but we should not make that our problem! If they want to be American citizens, they should apply, then wait to come through legal channels! You can bet your a$$ that Mexico would not allow us to remain in their country illegally, or give us anything except a hard time! This insanity must stop!

A rambling, incoherent diatribe worthy of the Unibomber.

"Not all Democrats agree with Mr. Frank that such policies are off-limits to criticism. Last week Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama said in a statement: 'Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect, I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong.'

"Mr. Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus."

    'Rank snobbery'

Camille Paglia, who supports Sen. Barack Obama, has nothing but scorn for the way the media has treated Sarah Palin.

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses," Miss Paglia writes at www.salon.com.

"The bourgeois conventionalism and rank snobbery of these alleged humanitarians stank up the place. As for Palin's brutally edited interviews with Charlie Gibson and that viper, Katie Couric, don't we all know that the best bits ended up on the cutting-room floor? Something has gone seriously wrong with Democratic ideology, which seems to have become a candied set of holier-than-thou bromides attached like tutti-frutti to a quivering green Jell-O mold of adolescent sentimentality."

Most people who attack Palin do it because they think she's a retard.

Most people who defend Palin don't do it because they think she's not.

Howard Fineman, I really really like you and your comments with MSNBC as I have watched you over the last several years on MSNBC vis-a-vis Matthews, Olbermann, Maddow etc. Keep up the good work. I'd love to have lunch with YOU on the list of 10 people that you'd love to talk with over lunch. You are the voice of reason with all of these lunies out there. Your Fan in California

All eyes on Obama since he is up in the polls! This is great for mccain with 3 weeks before the election! All eyes on Obama means that the skeptics will be picking apart obama's policies and his tax plan! All this focus will let the voters see that under an Obama administration. They will be subject to higher taxes albeit his plan says otherwise but with 3 weeks left the skeptics get to look at it real good and also look at independent reports that debunk the Obama tax plan! Mccain may have played this one just right with one debate left he should be able to pull ahead in the polls before November 4 leaving Obama no time to adjust! FYI; ON OCT 9TH 2004 AL GORE HAD A 12 PT LEAD IN ALL POLLS OVER G.W. BUSH! BUT LOST TO HIM.... ADD THE FACTS THAT ACORN OFFICE GOT RAIDED WE JUST MIGHT HAVE A GAME CHANGER AFTER ALL!

Nowforthetruth, ha that's a laugh. Your farther from the truth than any other blogger on this whole entire site.

Damn you liberal idiots. The truth hurts so bad, but please be mature and admit the truth.

      • Posted By: Notrepublican @ 10/08/2008 1:05:50 AM

ya, because the Democrats killed everything he talked about, the Democrats are to blame for everything nowforthetruth is talking about. Yeah right, are you kidding me, that sounds ridiculous just by itself. Be mature, be friekin honorable, admit when you lie, and don't try to pass off your opinion as fact. I know it's hard for you guys to do that, to actually not lie and exaggerate, but it would make everyone take you more seriously if you just manned up and talked straight. It' s a new concept, I know, but you should try it sometime.
