Fineman supported Bush and turned a blind eye to his families associations to Bin Laden, his move into Iraq, and many other Bush concerning moves out of deference to "proximity to power". Fineman should be ashamed for his lack of guts to speak up when it mattered.

    Maverick No More...

Senator McCain should have been elected President of the United States while he was a Maverick, instead of Governor Bush.

Regrettably, at the time, the Republican Party assailed him as a R.I.N.O., Republican In Name Only.

Governor Bush won the Presidency, and the once great Maverick, acquiesced to the will of the Republican majority.

From that day forward, his Maverick status was indelibly destroyed.

The Republican Party that bridled Senator McCain's Maverick status in the past, now wants to revive his Maverick status that they have long since left in ruins.

Although Senator McCain won't be elected President of the United States, he will have some solace in knowing that the Republican President who once defeated his candidacy will have a legacy that rests in the historical archives of monumental failures.

I am a Republican. But it is really disturbing for me to be reading all these comments that really are racist and full of hate. And now with Palin feeding this racial slander about "paling around with terrorist", I am even more worried. I think the McCain camp is heading in the wrong direction if they think this kind of personal irrelevant attacks are going to help us win. Forget it, I am jumping off if this is where they are driving the Republican party.
I want policies. I want to know what he is going to do when he takes office. I can make character decisions on my own.

"CANATBRIGIAN" represents the most unappealing aspect of current Republican true believers. Whenever anyone points out their untruths, they are "victims" of media bias. Whenever their theories do not work out in reality, it turns out that it was someone else's fault. The Republicans owned both houses of Congress for 10 of the last 14 years. They owned at least one house of 14 of the last 14 years. They have had the presidency for the last 8 years. They have used a record number of filibusters in the last two years to keep anything they didn't like from coming out of the Senate --naturally, after moaning about the filibuster for the previous 6 years.

They will not do anything without being "bribed" by tax cuts. They enacted record tax cuts --mostly on upper income folk --while entering two wars. This was the first time in US history that we entered a war without raising taxes to help pay for it.

But somehow, "they" have no responsibility for our fiscal shambles. Even the "bailout" bill required that they be bribed by tax cuts to vote for it.

Hey pal, stay way from my children. We teach personal responsibility in my house.

NOBAMA has been on the campaign trail with his song and dance routine for the past two years, so he has his shtick down pat! However, his resume is thinner than Sarah Palin's and this was also the case with Hillary Clinton. However, the media clearly want this man to win . . .

Can someone explain how NObama can feed the public the untruth that this economic fiscal disaster is the fault of the Republicans?

    * Barney Frank (Democratic) has been in Congress since 1981, and is the Chairman of the Financial Services Committee.

*THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ALSO HAS THE MAJORITY IN Washington:

    [Senate] D=55, R=45

The only mess we have to worry about is Obama, he is a complete joke of a man, with no character and spine and he will your president not mines. I will never accept guttless and weakness as my leader.......The creation of Obama was a mess that will poison our society and we have a bunch of idoits call democrats to thank, we to go. How could his parents accept a boy like that as their son. Personally I would of lied if I had to admit Obama was my son, and left the country like his father did. I think that is the only thing Old man Obama did right.

It has been obvious for some time the next President would be hampered by the mess GWBush was creating, almost from the start of his Administration, but no one could imagine the extent of the damage he has finally caused.

Where is John McCain in all of this? I haven't heard a peep out of him. He seems to be letting Palin do all the talking lately. I don't like it at all. And I think his "new strategy" of personal attacks on Obama is not good either.

I want to hear exactly how he plans to tackle the mess W is leaving either him or Obama. I was pleased to hear some concrete plans from Obama today on Healthcare. I don't care about the war or Iraq, or Afganistan. I care about America. We can't be out saving the world when we ourselves are wounded. What are his plans for our great nation. Just no more Palin please. Anymore of her and I will vote for Obama for sure.

What is it with you people? You cannot bring yourself to accept reality. George W. Bush is the worst President ever! Worse than Herbert Hoover who recklessly poured accelerants on the Great Depression. Worse than James Buchanan who antagonize the confederates to secede from the union, but did nothing about it when the country split. Bush is the worst for a many reasons. Just to highlight a few of Bush's failures:

[1.] - - Failed to build on the Jimmy Carter's "peace-in-the-middle-east" initiative. Republicans love to jump on Carter's so-called incompetence, but no President since then has replicated or significantly built on Carter's Egypt-Israel lasting peace treaty.

[2.] - - Bush recklessly initiated a war with Iraq that is costing this country $10-Billion per month, $700-Billion since 2003, with 4,177 dead Americans and 30,680 wounded, and 300,000 with mental issues. If Iraq was allowed to remain, it would have kept Iran in check.

[3.] - - The unnecessary Iraq war is causing havoc on the nation's finance and draining the nations of so many other valuable resources. Our national debt is at a record high. Job lost is at a 5-year high. We are truly worst off than when Bush took office 8-years ago.

[4.] - - Instead of bringing the nation together as promised, Bush in a single swoop has fueled divisions domestically while simultaneously causing the hatred of billions of people against us from around the world.

[5.] - - Bushed talked tough to Russia, China, North Korea, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Venezuela, and Somalia, but has only managed to make America sound like a "junk-yard dog without a bite". Bush allowed Putin to punk him to his face while they were both in China during the Olympics, and then Bush and John McCain talked tough once he got back to White House. Everyone is now challenging U.S. prowess around the globe.

And with all these issues and so much more, none of you "hypocritical evangelical religious-right James Dobson" pinheads want to acknowledge that your poor judgment for selecting Bush to two terms, has wrought this disaster on our nation. People, where is your accountability?

Bush didn't make gay marriage go way nor did he stop abortion. So what did "the James Dobson idiots" get for their vote? They got hell on earth and it is getting worst.

And now you want to elect an "Abstinence Only" hypocrite whose 17-year old unmarried pregnant daughter is proof that abstinence theory is not foolproof. This Moose-hunting Elmer Fudd will be a heartbeat away from taking the place of a cancer-stricken 72-year old man, whose thought process has plummeted to the speed of molasses. This same VP pick cannot answer Katie Couric question as to what book she has ever read.

And before the next hypocritical religious idiot blame anyone other themselves for the current state of the nation, they better read "MATTHEWS 7:3-5".

The link below contains a purported list of the top 25 in Congress who got contributions from the folks at Fannie and Freddie. Obama is listed third, after Dodd and Kerry, even though Obama is just a junior Senator. Obama is followed next by Clinton. Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi are on the list as well.

Once again Newsweek wastes time and money on a negative article. Maybe us as American's should focus on the positive in the Country, we can't change the past, but we can change the future. Look for information on these two men running for President in every spot you can, some will be from the left, some from the right, some good, some bad. But we need to gather all information and make an educated decision, rather than going off of what some politian, or media reporter tells us.

    Dear Howard Fineman,

It appears you see this issue with clear vision. Therefore you are now charged with the following mission. In order to save the nation, it is your job to go to the Southern Baptist Convention denomination and to the office of Evangelical Religious-Right Crusaders & self-appointed Chairman of 'Focus on the Family' James Dobson, and explain how all 30-million of its members will not be allowed to vote. Their vote for Bush in the previous two elections has brought the nation to a living hell. And James Dobson's pursuit to finish this nation off by putting Sarah Palin within one heartbeat of the Presidency is a risk too great for sane people to allow. The intention of James Dobson and his hypocritical evangelicals will not stand. There are 200-million voting Americans that will make sure a third Bush term is NOT delivered.

    GOD Bless America!
    GOD Bless the Obama-Biden Leadership!

Mr. Fineman, where have you been for the past eight years? Obviously, not being very observant, for all your writing abilities, so allow me to bring you up to date. The Democrats love to point the finger of blame toward George Bush for everything that has happened during this past eight years, but I find it just a bit too coincidental that Mr. Bush had been in office for only eight months when 9/11 took place, so perhaps there was a conspiracy, after all, but it wasn't the Republicans who were conspiring. The Democrats were extremely distraught, to put it mildly, when they lost the election, so perhaps they decided to set the president up to look like he was failing; things were going fine for the first six years, until congress became a Democrat majority, then things began to fall apart, gas prices rose, amonge other problems. The Democrats in congress consistantly behaved very childish considering everything the president proposed, including going on vaccation instead of remaining in session long enough to vote on the issue of off shore drilling. And these are the people who keep getting voted in year after year. Something smells very fishy in the congressional offices. I would like to see a senator's service be limited to two terms, just as the presidents is, then they step down and new candidates are given an opportunity, a fresh approach to situations. Mr. Fineman, I'm sure you will not deny that we were doing much better before the new congress took over a couple of years ago, at least, you won't deny it if you are looking at the situation with an un-biased mind. G.W. Bush is not the problem, the attitude of the liberals is the problem. Liberals are not wrong in wanting to avoid war---who doesn't? But they are wrong in beliving its always possible. Liberals are not wrong in wanting to protect our natural resources, I, too, believe in doing that, however, they are wrong in being so extreme about it, with no allowance for common sense. I've heard it said that if you're not liberal when you're young, you have no heart, and if you're not conservative when you're older, you have no brain; I'm not sure I'd put it quite that way, but liberals do tend to behave very radical about everything, which does not show maturity at any age, and immaturity does not instill confidence in most people. So, I disagree with your article, as I'm sure you have, by this point, determined, but I am going to assume that you do not read these comments, anyway.

I can't believe some national pundits are calling this debate remotely close; they must be concerned about remaining neutral. That folksy act; the winking, the smirks, the betcha by golly wows....?

I've heard more credible pitches from strippers

Apparently Joe Six Pack buys tickets to this type of show. Palin appears to me as someone overly confident, hiding a sarcastic nature that borders obnoxious, combined with her supreme sense of arrogance. She appears to be a world class expert at both the art of seduction and public speaking. I can see why McCain picked her. Frauds wearing similar feathers, flock together.

Hey Joe. Yeah, you in Ohio. I hope you didn't fall for her performance. The deal is: The fact that you believe in this revolving door of GOP criminals, is screwing up our country. You're telling me that church on Sunday gets in the way of watching Meet The Press? Then please, at least pray to Jesus that John McCain's first executive decision will be his last one.

Alaska is just...insert sarcastic smirk here ...the perfect distance between Palin and Washington D.C.

For the middle class to get stronger, the middle class needs to get smarter. Humor me, Joe.
Put that beer down and takeagander at the new article about Mr. McCain over at Rolling Stone.com. McCane hasn't changed one iota since age 15. You really to investigate his life before Nov 4th

And while you're at it, forward the link to your brothers in Indiana and Florida.

It's up to you, Joe Six Pack. Don't blow it for us again

Steve, you are correct, it wasn't close, Sarah Palin left Biden in the dust, she was much more belivable, and natural, while Biden sounded like a puppet repeating the same old song & dance that wasn't in tune the first time we heard it. Maybe the American public are tired of the standard political speechs and promises, and are ready to hear someone who speaks their language, in plain English, who talks to them--not at them, as though we are all too dumb to know what is best for us, so we need them to spell it out for us. Sarah Palin is the first politician in a long time who does this---treats the American voter with respect, listens to their opinions, and appeals to the PEOPLE, not to the liberal news media or to liberals in general. When you complain so loudly about her, is when we know she is doing a terrific job of holding her own, and has the liberals running scared that their plans for OUR country aren't going according to schedule. Liberals may be shrewd, but don't under estimate the American public's ability to see through that.
