Palin, McCain and the Weeks Ahead

Palin's ties to 'everyday Americans' aren't an argument for her candidacy. But let's treat her ability to inspire the public for what it is: an asset, not a liability.

How to bring down a democracy: the steps toward totalitarian rule, in the order followed by Hitler and the Nazi Party SEE IF THEY SOUND FAMILIAR.

    1. Improvise an attack (or take advantage of an attack) on the country
    2. Declare the country under attack by an enemy; real or improvised
    3. Force legislation that limits civil liberties and gathers broad powers unto government
    4. Brand dissenters and peacemakers as unpatriotic and browbeat them into submission
    5. Keep the fear factor high to make the public easier to manage
    6. Institute massive propaganda campaigns using state-controlled no-longer-free media and fear of government retribution
    7. Law enforcement and government personnel are used to spy on, control and break dissent 7. Institute the equivalent of a national homeland security department, overseen by one person with unlimited powers
    8. Confiscate all firearms from the citizenry
    9. Institute the mass murder and imprisonment of any who resist the new ideology.
    10. Launch pre-emptive strikes into other countries in an attempt to spread the new ideology

Sound familiar? It should, its not only the direct path of Hitlers rise to power, but also parallels the events starting with and following 9/11. President Bush was very familiar with the game plan, as his Grandfather and his Grandfathers father-in-law were supporters of Hitler and Nazism, both before and after the war.

Of course, theyve skipped a couple of the items on the list, but theyll get to them if theyre allowed to remain in power, because it will be the only way for them to retain power.

The Reichstag Fire: the funeral pyre of German democracy parallels 9/11 and the loss of American civil liberties

THE BEST REASON TO VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA THIS ELECTION YEAR

  • Posted By: wendydk @ 10/31/2008 4:45:29 PM

The GOP's biggest fear is not that Obama is a black radical muslim socialist, but that he will in fact be a great President. That would mean the next Republican President to feel the sunshine on his face in the Rose Garden would be a LONG LONG way off!

So, they bring up all the same old crap out of the basement, without even bothering to check out the truth. Here are the answers to all the Obama smears using various trusted non-partisan sources. Investigate for yourselves before believing anyones version of the facts.

No matter how many times I have seen McCain talking and explaining things, my impression on him remains the same. Just like Palin- they have the same feather...using each other to get to the top, they have a hidden agenda. When it comes to money they couldn't be trusted nor they could to the welfare of the people
around the world. They LACK SINCERITY in their words and so I could not imagine the world with them as leaders...they shouldn't be.

Karl Rove, a Republican flack and the inventor of Bush Jr's presidential career-- what would you expect him to say about Palin? 4 out of 5 of our last presidents have been ex-governors, and, depending on your political allegiances, you have to admit the results have been, to put it charitably, mixed. Carter was the only one to seriously address the ballooning deficit and the energy crisis, but Congress and the public wanted to party. I think it very much DOES matter than a prospective veep knows who the German Chancellor is. As for Biden being wrong by voting against Reagan, that's what the opposition party does: put the brakes on the absolutism of the White House. I'm not a huge Biden fan. I find him a bit of a bloviator. But be fair, Mr. Rove: isn't his choice as veep the same gravitas strategy the Bush camp used when choosing Cheney, balancing youthful energy with an elder statesman? For progressives and environmentalists, among others, his opposition to Reagan, a pro-business blame-the-poor hawk was a good thing. Reagan's decision to bankrupt the Soviet Union by outspending it reveals he was no fiscal conservative. He never reduced spending, only somehat slowed the rate of its growth, and he grew the deficit. Palin is eerily reminiscent of Reagan: in her anti-government rhetoric while she's running an overweight welfare state, and in her goofy ""faith-based" social views on gay rights, reproductive rights, Endangered Species Act, bogus preemptive wars etc. Does she even believe in evolution? Bush Jr. didn't. She seems closer to William Jennings Bryan than to a 21st century leader. I get a weird Manifest Destiny vibe from her. Who says that Alaska BELONGS to the white man anyway? The czar sold America something that didn't belong to him in the first place. The Inuit were certainly not consulted. And as for the working-mom paradigm she parades, the Christian Right whom she represents fought against women in the workplace all the way. She is a beneficiary of the feminists' hard work, but she hews to views antithetical to that struggle, a hypocrisy as blatant and as unexplained as her Bridge to Nowhere gaffe.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE TO BE HELD SUNDAY AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY

The Free and Equal Elections Coalition (FREE) and the Columbia Political Union are pleased to announce that a Presidential debate will be held this coming Sunday, October 19th, 2008, on the campus of Columbia University.

ALL SIX of the Presidential candidates who appear on enough state ballots to acquire the 270 Electoral Votes needed to become President are invited. They are as follows (listed in alphabetical order by affiliation):

    Constitution Party Candidate: Chuck Baldwin
    Democratic Party Candidate: Barack Obama
    Green Party Candidate: Cynthia McKinney
    Independent Candidate: Ralph Nader
    Libertarian Party Candidate: Bob Barr
    Republican Party Can John McCain

The Columbia Political Union will present the debate from 8:00pm to 10:00pm in the Altschul Auditorium, located at 417 International Affairs Building. The debate will be moderated by Pacifica Radio's Amy Goodman, the host of "Democracy Now!". CSPAN will cover the debate, and live radio broadcasts are expected.

"The Columbia Political Union is committed to energizing political discourse on Columbia's campus," said Allon Brann, Columbia Political Union Publisher. "As a non-partisan organization, we work to provide students with opportunities to encounter and engage with political ideas across a wide ideological spectrum, and on a wide range of issues."

"It is with these goals in mind that we have organized this Presidential Debate: to give all candidates-- either within or outside of the political "mainstream"-- the opportunity to speak directly to students about their goals on the issues they deem critical for this country."

"We have invited all eligible candidates, and it is our sincere hope that all will participate, to ensure the substance and rigor of the dialogue which we believe is crucial at this time."

Certified letters officially inviting each candidate have been sent to the respective campaigns.

The Free and Equal Elections Coalition and the Columbia Political Union await the response from the candidates. All candidates' supporters are encouraged to contact the Presidential campaigns and urge them to attend.

The Columbia Political Union seeks to enhance involvement in the political process, domestic and international, and draw every member of the campus community into an ongoing discussion of political ideas.

If John McCain And Sarah Palin keep this campaign style going, Barack Obama and Joe Biden are a shoe in for the White House. Their is no substance to their campaign. I'm sure everybody knows this. I don't understand why some of the McCain surrogates don't get this. With 17 days left until election day, I would say if the McCain campaign keeps this kind of rhetoric going in their campaign, The American people are going to be turned off in a very big way. I believe even his own supporters will either switch their vote, Or just stay home on election day. I believe a desperate man has desperate ways. The RNC and the GOP are prepared to say and do anything to maintain the White House, Even to say that Barack Obama is a terrorist or has ties to a terrorist. If anyone believes this your out of your mind. It won't resonate with the people, Look at polls, They speak for themselves.

    • Posted By: Leelee81 @ 10/04/2008 3:55:17 PM

First of all, the quote was "Now you have narco drug lords who are helping to finance the Taliban," Obama said, "so we've got to get the job done there [in Afghanistan], and that requires us to have enough troops that we are not just air raiding villages, and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there."
He meant that we needed to get more troops in there so that they could be more effective.

Second - again Sarah Palin has no ideas of her own but is being force fed Republican rhetoric. This was a quote that the RNC tried to use against Senator Obama in 2007.

      They're desperate.

      • Posted By: Solyd_Truth @ 10/04/2008 6:32:52 PM

The GOP is not desperate, they are grounded and significantly more ready to deal with any military crisis or crises. There has never been democratic leader that has successfully prosecuted any war.

              2. The Palins did not report as income some $43,000 that the State of Alaska paid the Governor as an ???allowance??? for her husband and children???s travel. Can they do that? No, most likely not.

      Yeah, I do.

American soldiers have committed atrocities in Vietnam and throughout the MIddle East. It's a small number in both cases, but a small number of indefensible acts is too many. I want a Commander-In-Chief who has a zero tolerance policy for the American military abusing those less powerful than themselves.

You are the most violent Christian person I have ever known, and a disgrace to Christ's ideals of love and tolerance, Roller. The disparity between your kind of hatred and what your religion preaches is so vast it dwarfs comprehension.

Ability to inspire the public equates to leadership? Only if you plan to be a)an actress or b)a writer. I think Americans are inspired by their own thoughts already. A leader is expected to be informed and capable of handling any set of challenges. It takes far far more than someone believing you are a 'good person', being able to use your mouth as a form of sheer 'inspiration in others' and being 'popular' with a few. IMHO, she needs a fan club, not *more* responsibilities....in Washington.

Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!

Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.

The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."

Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.

Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.

Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.

Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.

It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.

    Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. [What about the role of luckbeing in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time? R. R. Pope}

Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.

In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
Also, he perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are essentially bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything in the last 80 years.
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand exactly what is broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use complex mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He didnt realize that anything was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. Check out this link to the truth http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that .

I think you are right! Obama was smart to hire the people that caused the economic disaster to give him advice on how to pull through this disaster and how to prevent it in the future. They have first hand knowledge of what caused it and they have made their millions already. Very smart!!

The negative, hateful words being spoken by Palin against Obama must bring joy to the heart of Karl Rove - the king of negative politics. I believe the hateful words Palin is using to inspire the crowd's is very dangerous. I suppose since Palin cannot speak intelligently about the issues facing "joe six-pack" Americans, exaggerating and lying about Obama is all she can do. This is an important election. We are facing real issues as individuals - loss of our retirement, home, etc. - and as a nation. Can we please talk about the issues. Why can't Palin or McCain INSPIRE talking about the issues?

I always respected John McCain and thought I would have a hard time deciding between McCain or Obama. But, first with the Palin selection, and now with the horrendous negative campaigning, my decision is a no-brainer. I will vote for Obama-Biden in November.

The truth always hurts, especially when it is negative toward your candidate. But, don't you agree that the voters need to be well informed? I thought you would agree!
