"IT AIN'T OVER TILL IT'S OVER!" GRANTED, THINGS COULD LOOK BETTER FOR MCCAIN -PALIN, BUT JUST TWO WEEKS AGO THINGS DIDN'T LOOK THAT GREAT FOR OBAMA.
THERE IS SO MUCH WE REALLY DON'T KNOW ABOUT OBAMA THAT IT'S SCARY. WHY, FOR EXAMPLE HE WON'T ALLOW HIS TRANSCRIPTS FROM HARVARD TO BE RELEASED. WHAT IS HE HIDING? WHY WOULD A MAN AS INTELLIGENT AS HE IS NOT KNOW THE DEPTH OF HATE HIS MINISTER HAD FOR WHITE PEOPLE? THAT WOULD, AT BEST INDICATE TO ME A COMPLETE LACK OF JUDGEMENT. WHY WOULD HE CONTINUE TO HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH SOMEONE THAT WOULD BOMB ANYTHING AND HAD SUCH RADICAL IDEAS? WHY DOES HE CONSISTANTLY FLIP-FLOP ON ALMOST ALL THAT HE REPRESENTS, DEPENDING ON THE POLLING OF THAT DAY...THERE IS NO CONSISTANT PRINCIPLE WHERE HE IS CONCERNED. JUST AN OVERRIDING DESIRE TO BE PRESIDENT AT ANY COST.
IIN THE WEEKS TO COME THERE IS SO MUCH THAT MCCAIN AND PALIN NEED TO BRING TO THE TATTENTION OF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC. OBAMA HONESTLY HAS MUCH THAT WORRIES ME AND I HOPE THAT WILL BECOME APPARENT IN WEEKS TO COME.

Nothing any liberal could type could be a damning as this gibberish.

You forgot the part about how he walks through the streets of Chicago looking for homeless white men and kicks them right square in the crotch and says, "Take dat, Cracka!". It's true. My second-cousin's friend was there and saw it happen with this OWN TWO EYES. Well, technically he only has one eye due to a freak accident involving a Slinky, but you get the point.

Mr. Rove, you're right that Palin has executive experience and Obama has little. That is one reason I reluctantly support Obama. For me, I've got to hope that Obama does the right thing when he's in office. I was impressed with McCain in 2000 but lost almost all respect for him after you, Mr. Rove, spearheaded a smear campaign against him only to find McCain buddy up to Bush afterward. Then, he virtually embraced every tenant of the Republican majority in 2004 scaring me even more. For an individual, it is very difficult to wade through all the spin, talking heads, blogs, and political winds to really see how a candidate would behave once in office. Will McCain go back to his roots? I thought he might until he picked Palin, who seems she's the second coming of Bush, as his running mate. There are two winds blowing across the nation - one has the smell of sanity and the other (which you are part of) has run the country aground. Given that, I have to hitch my wagon to the sane camp. Although, I do it with an anxious feeling in my stomach.

Palin wants Alaska to become an Independent Nation? How interesting! And there is a video of her addressing the Alaska Independence Party convention and wishing them luck? Even more interesting! And now she talks about radical "friends", even though Obama was never connected with Ayers, but she is tied to the AIP?

amazing! the first good thing i've read in this liberal leaning rag in what seems like forever!

Valiant effort Karl. However I am not convinced. While the global financial system is collapsing all we hear from the Republican camp are low road smears and pleas to cut taxes for rich people. This doesn't anger me particularly (though I'd prefer a better effort from McCain and Palin). It is too late for them to turn it around - voting begins this week and the Republican ticket has clearly failed in its mission to convince us of their support for constructive change. Alas.

Well, how about this... OBAMA is a MUSLIM TERRORIST. And he EATS BABIES. This isn't a smear tactic. IT"S A FACT because I read in on the INTERNET.

There was a point I considered voting for McCain, but after the pick of Palin as VP any such thoughts went away.
Palins qualifications to the second highest office in the land is greatly exagerated if not an out and out lie.
Just because you held office in Alaska does not mena you have the wisdom and maturity for that office.
But then the majority of McCains campaign is based on lies and not issues, and that shows the lack of maturity in a 72 YO ex Sailor.
Guess we're starting to see that more clearly.

PALIN WANTS TO PLAY THE GUILT BY ASSOCIATION GAME? OOOOK! WELL THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE MADE INTO A COMMERCIAL. Let's talk about Palin's association with the Alaskan Independence Party? Her husband (and probably her) has been a part of an organization in Alaska that preaches secession from the USA. They are not all that nice. PLEASE WATCH, READ AND SHARE:

I think Karl Rove gives an insightful analysis. I listen to both conservative and liberal news sources, and the reality is that there are pros and cons about both candidates. However, one thing I've noticed - when you mention to McCain supporters that you object to his adultery, they admit that that bothers them too and they wish he hadn't done it, but at least he admitted his divorce was all his fault and there is no evidence he's cheated on Cindy. When you tell them you have a problem with him due to the Keating Five, they point out that it did show bad judgment on his part, though both McCain and John Glenn (also part of the Keating Five) they were exonerated. In other words, they admit there are negatives, but they also give a factual rebuttal.

With Obama supporters, you raise negatives, and it seems most of the time, instead of admitting there was an issue and providing a fact-based rebuttal, they simply call you names for pointing out your concerns. The reality is that Obama did go to Rev. Wright's church for 20 years, a church that Oprah Winfrey left after 2 years because she was troubled by some of the language. This is not a smear, it is a fact. Now, this doesn't mean Obama is a racist - but it means he may have some issues with flawed judgment. Or, you could point out that he used cocaine as a youth, which he himself talks about in his autobiography. Again, this is not necessarily a deal breaker - people could point out that, like Todd Palin's DUI 23 years ago, the mistakes of youth shouldn't necessarily be held against a mature candidate. But, again, many people don't respond to this in a rational fashion. Or, finally, you could bring up Obama's ties to Bill Ayers, and the fact that Mayor Daley of Chicago called them friends, and this is actually documented in the Chicago papers, and there is no fact-based response.

Have you read the other comments? With a few exceptions, I really don't think logical discourse is a strong point of either side. It's kind of silly to try make this point when there is evidence to the contrary staring you right in the face.

BTW, for those who might call me a racist for not supporting Obama (I don't) - I would love to vote for a black candidate, because I think it would be good for this country. I just don't think Obama is qualified, and I think he is too liberal. However, I would vote for a moderate black candidate - for example, someone like Harold Ford Jr. or former LA mayor Tom Bradley on the Democratic side or Michael Steele, Condi Rice or Colin Powell on the Republican side. If you examine each of them in terms of their position - they are all fairly centrist and therefore acceptable to most Americans and, in particular with Mayor Bradley, Colin Powell and Condi Rice, they are all extremely accomplished people.

    Mr. Rove,
As an undecided voter, do you actually expect me to think that you believe what you say in this article? If you truly believe this nonsense, you've given me a reason to lean towards Obama-Biden. To sway voters your way, please present more sustantial, truthful information and more intelligent opinions.

Excellent analysis as usual. Palin has shown a femininity and strength. She has brought tio all women a new place at the power table. Nasty comments on Rove here are examples of how cruel and mean Democrats get, and should be the subject of a Newsweek article denouncing them.

    • Posted By: IndyCentrist @ 10/06/2008 10:53:46 AM

Even Republicans recognize that Karl Rove is basically an underhanded sleazeball, but he wins elections and that's why they tolerate him. Anything criticism he gets from Democrats, or Republicans that are tired of him being associated with their party, is completely deserved. Also, you can love Palin all you want, but she isn't ready for Washington. There are plenty of female Republican leaders out their that would have been a much better choice, but the McCain campaign decided to go for "curb appeal" as opposed to finding a suitable running mate. Why do you think they have limited her access to the media? I agree that a strong female could very well bring some unique qualities to Washington that would bring some welcome change, but Palin clearly isn't she. I actually feel kind of bad for Palin... Her party intentionally threw her to the wolves to distract the American people from John McCain.

Mr. Karl Rove has played a major role in Sara' P candidacy( selection), now he is telling her strengths and her merits as to helping McCain!--it is amazing... and thank u for your advise...

McCain is erratic and has poor judgment, which is on display daily in the person of his VP pick. Obama is a bright, unifying figure who appreciates nuance and is charismatic enough to lead the country in this time of economic and foreign policy challenges that will demand a president who understands history and the fine points of the issues.

Fo the last three presidential elections the polls showed the dems ahead. This time looks much the same and thankfully we did end up with a Republican President in the previous two. Obama won't pull this off as he does not have the Perot Factor that Clinton had. There are not enough left wing kooks out there unless the Dems are able to pull of a major election fraud this time around.

  • Posted By: conservethe50 @ 10/06/2008 10:39:04 AM

For the last 3 presidential races we have seen the Democrats ahead in the polls including this race. We have ended up with a Republican President. Obama does not have the Perot Factor to help him surpass all those votes out there that are middle of the road and Conservative. The pollsters never speak to those people for the most part. I still think Obama won't make it unless they can pull off major election fraud.

As far as unreliable goes, you should read Rolling Stone's essay on John McCain, available at

    http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain

It makes Bush look very good indeed. I'm not kidding. At least he loves his wife and admitted he had a drink problem. If McCain gets in we will be treated to a reign of unprecedented immaturity.

"But the race is tight, no candidate can get above 50 percent for more than a day or two, and it is likely to stay close right to the end."

According to realclearpolitics.com, an average of the major polls' results on a daily basis has shown Obama-Biden ahead by much more than a "point or two" for quite a while, with the exception of McCain's post-RNC "bump." Today, Obama is ahead by an average of 6.3 points--and, as a candidate with high popularity in the youth demographic (typically neglected in telephone surveys due to a lack of landline use), I'd say an Obama presidency is looking more and more likely.

But, I suppose we'll have to wait and see...
