When is Mr. Rove going to answer the subpoena from congress on his alleged illegal activities? until Mr. Rove addresses the basic rule of law as it applies to him, his words are useless and hopelessly partisan.

To use the term cancer survivor implies five years disease free...McCain has not achieved that milestone so Palin may be closer than you think to being president. Look up melanoma on any reputable site and you'll see how dangerous it is...especially if your only treatment is surgery. That being said...I can't believe that Rove is still accepted as worthy of print space! Especially by a magazine that I thought was reputable! Talk about a Rove-ian witch hunt....he and Cheney are the most dangerous men in America today. If we elect McCain, he may make Bush look smart.

Palin's ties to 'everyday Americans' aren't an argument for her candidacy. But let's treat her ability to inspire the public for what it is: an asset, not a liability.
TRANSLATION - Rovespeak for how to fool stupid voters again and again to vote for incompetent GOP politicians that will let the country be run by greedy corporations.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY OBAMA IS CRYING "FOUL" BEFORE THERE'S BEEN ANY MENTION OF HIS SORDID PAST???? If he were the honest sort of person, he would beat them to the punch and deflate their efforts, BUT we all know the answer......IT WOULD COST HIM THE RACE!!!! He is not know for being the truth teller about affiliations and stepping stones to the senate....What has he done to be so ashamed of????? OF course, if you live in the USA and you have a televison or radio, you know...Rev. Wright, Farrakhan, Ayers, and the list goes is still being uncovered.....Obama is the BIGGEST THREAT TO OUR NATION!!!!!

Rove, the master of "perception is reality" politics misses the real question, in a way that is pedictable for the guy who was in charge of W's permanent campaign. Leadership is not just selling the public on bad policy convincingly, as Reagan did throughout his presidency -- and even to the present day. The serious question is not whether Palin is an asset in an election, whether or not she can captivate the electorate and thepress, but whether she has the background and judgment necessary to lead the country to formulate and execute good national policy. Her running mate doesn't have what it takes either, but Palin herself is spectacularly unqualified, if the issue is judgment.

WHY IS THAT FASCIST ROVE ALLOWED TO WRITE FOR NEWSWEEK? AND REAGAN WAS NOT A GREAT LEADER, HE STARTED THIS COUNTRIES DOWNWARD SPIRAL

Just wondering, but it appears that half of the comments on this article have little to do with the article. Did any of you actually read it or catch the point? Why is it that those that perpetually turn to the left act like rabid, ranting lunatics when given a computer and a little anonymity? Read the arguments, read the article, Karl Rove is giving his opinion as a counter to another article, It's not advice, its not fact, its simply his opinion.
Geez, from reading these posts, you'd think Obama was the second coming. If he is we are all in trouble.

Rove has completely ignored the point of Meacham's article.

In brief, Meacham's point is that Sarah palin is a mediocrity who clearly is not suited to be vice president to a 72-year old cancer survivor, never mind that she connects with the ordinary joe.

Meacham's article didn't make the point strongly enough -- that Palin is EXACTLY like George W Bush. A former governor (experienced as an executive), completely incurious of affairs of the world, shallow, inarticulate and mindless (Q: who can't remember what newspapers they read? A: someone who doesn't read any) - but also a regular joe with great political instincts.

Of course, Rove was George Bush's 'brain' for most of the past 8 years - and we all know what an absolute disaster that turned out to be. Is it any wonder that Sarah Palin didnt answer most of her debate questions directly? She's been trained in 5 short weeks in the Rove/Bush Republican playbook, but it's one she was familiar with as governor of Alaska: Distration, Bull***t and empty populist words aimed at the poor average American, who will still end up with the short end of the stick, handed down by the guy they'd feel comfortable having a beer with.

Hazbert, I think you misss the point, Rove wrote this article as a counterpoint to Meachams article.

Palin is a refreshing voice in that DNC women chirp about how Americans Suck First.
Threw the debate the contrast between Palin and new ideas contrasted with Biden, the tired old socialist and one of the authors of the Americans Suck First campaign! The socialists clearly want the United States to slow down to their tired old selves and wheezing identities of the next new tax; the next new regulation...
... and Biden was even trying to showcase his old 100 thousand cops (on the streets) scam of over a decade ago, in a stupid attempt to put "teeth" in a omnibus crime bill full of... gun control!
(The ban on politicly controverted firearms was finally lifted because it did not reduce violence!)
Questions about Obama associastions are important and will become more so, and the mainstream news is well aware of Ayers and his bombers and the goal to have all the violence around the world brought to the streets of the USA.
The main stream news media has to ask: if credibility is squandered trying to GET Obama in the White House how can the media KEEP Obama in the White House when it's credibility has been squandered?
Obama's THE ONE! Obama's the ROCK STAR! Obama's the YES WE'S CAN with a tire guage.... but he's no leader.

I am highly disappointed that Newsweek would let this kind of individual, such as Rove, express an opinion on any subjects. His lies and dirty tricks are notorious for doing nothing more than smearing. He is the last person we need to hear from in an election, which has such high stakes. This man is a menace to our country, by spreading rumors, lies and hatred. He is no better than a Rush, the druggy. Come on!! We know that he is behind the smear of Obama hanging with terrorist. If that is the only way a Republican can win the White House or steal an election, then, Republicans need to clean up their own house, before pointing fingers at others. I, for one, am sick of it and Rove. He needs to give us all a break and SHUT UP!!!!

Palin's Attack On Obama's Patriotism Legitimizes Questions About The Palins' Association With Group Founded By America-Hating Secessionist

If Palin is going to say this, it is now perfectly legitimate to point out that she repeatedly courted a secessionist group founded by someone who openly professed hatred of the American government, cursed our flag, and wanted to secede from the Union. Sarah's husband, Todd Palin, was a member of this group, which continues to venerate that founder to this day, for years.

As you already know, the group is the Alaska Independence Party, which sees as its ultimate goal seceding from the union. Todd was a member, with a brief exception, from 1995 until 2002, according to the Division of Elections in Alaska.

And though Sarah Palin herself was apparently not a member of this group, there's no doubt that she repeatedly courted this secessionist organization over the years. In 1994, Palin attended the group's annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News' Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group's 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an incumbent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.

The founder of the AIP was a man named Joe Vogler. Here's what he had to say in a 1991 interview, only a few years before Palin attended its convention: "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government."

He also said this: "And I won't be buried under their damn flag. I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

Vogler has also said: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Why would Newsweek give space to a person who should be under indictment for subversionof the goverment?

  • Posted By: Tegan1 @ 10/05/2008 6:02:07 PM

Why would Newsweek, a respectable magaine, allow someone of the character level of Karl Rove contribute. Karl Rove has been caught in lie after lie, misdeed after misdeed, and is best known for delivering the dirtiest politics of our time. Surely there are journalists of good reputation who have something valuable and truth based to contribute. I am somewhat disenchanted by the low levels of standards known media outlets have stooped to during this election year.

  • Posted By: Tegan1 @ 10/05/2008 5:58:32 PM

Why is Newsweek, a respected magazine, allowing Karl Rove, a man who has been caught in lie after lie, and double talk throughout his career and is best known for scorched earth politics to contribute anything to their magazine? The McCain campaign has been called the dirtiest campaign ever run. Isn't there some kind of media outlet that really fact checks and relishes truth anymore?

Poor Sarah Palin... she DOES have a knack for saying the wrong things though, doesn't she? My opinion, if she keeps up with her "debate performance" and contiues with the attacks on Obama for alledged ties to this Avery character, she may actually prove to be the best player on Obama's team. Her entire participation in this campaign is a farce. But let me just say this, IF John McCain is elected president then may God let him live a long, long time; because if he dies... well, I'm sure I don't have to finish THAT particular statement.

    DO YOUR JOB MEDIA!!

Why is the NY Times, Newseek, and CNN continuing to ignore McCain's "own Bill Ayers"?

Sen. John McCain's relationship with radio host and convicted Watergate burglar G. Gordon Liddy.
As Media Matters for America has noted, Liddy served four and a half years in prison in connection with his conviction for his role in the Watergate break-in and the break-in at the office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers. Liddy has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in "if necessary"; plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a "gangland figure" to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap "leftist guerillas" at the 1972 Republican National Convention -- a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis. (The murder, firebombing, and kidnapping plots were never carried out; the break-ins were.) During the 1990s, Liddy reportedly instructed his radio audience on multiple occasions on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents and also reportedly said he had named his shooting targets after Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Liddy has donated $5,000 to McCain's campaigns since 1998, including $1,000 in February 2008. In addition, McCain has appeared on Liddy's radio show during the presidential campaign, including as recently as May. An online video labeled "John McCain On The G. Gordon Liddy Show 11/8/07" includes a discussion between Liddy and McCain, whom Liddy described as an "old friend." During the segment, McCain praised Liddy's "adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great," said he was "proud" of Liddy, and said that "it's always a pleasure for me to come on your program."

Additionally, in 1998, Liddy reportedly held a fundraiser at his home for McCain. Liddy was reportedly scheduled to speak at another fundraiser for McCain in 2000. The Charlotte Observer reported on January 23, 2000, that McCain's campaign vouched for Liddy's "character":
