    DO YOUR JOB MEDIA!!

Why is the NY Times, Newseek, and CNN continuing to ignore McCain's "own Bill Ayers"?

Sen. John McCain's relationship with radio host and convicted Watergate burglar G. Gordon Liddy.
As Media Matters for America has noted, Liddy served four and a half years in prison in connection with his conviction for his role in the Watergate break-in and the break-in at the office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers. Liddy has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in "if necessary"; plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a "gangland figure" to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap "leftist guerillas" at the 1972 Republican National Convention -- a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis. (The murder, firebombing, and kidnapping plots were never carried out; the break-ins were.) During the 1990s, Liddy reportedly instructed his radio audience on multiple occasions on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents and also reportedly said he had named his shooting targets after Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Liddy has donated $5,000 to McCain's campaigns since 1998, including $1,000 in February 2008. In addition, McCain has appeared on Liddy's radio show during the presidential campaign, including as recently as May. An online video labeled "John McCain On The G. Gordon Liddy Show 11/8/07" includes a discussion between Liddy and McCain, whom Liddy described as an "old friend." During the segment, McCain praised Liddy's "adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great," said he was "proud" of Liddy, and said that "it's always a pleasure for me to come on your program."

Additionally, in 1998, Liddy reportedly held a fundraiser at his home for McCain. Liddy was reportedly scheduled to speak at another fundraiser for McCain in 2000. The Charlotte Observer reported on January 23, 2000, that McCain's campaign vouched for Liddy's "character":

Karl Rove loves a challenge. He took an idiot prince and made a president out of him. Twice. The second time was unforgivable. He likes it best when they can't make a complete sentence. Shall we give him a third chance?

    • Posted By: olderwiser @ 10/05/2008 11:08:58 AM

Which public did she inspire, Karl?

      • Posted By: olderwiser @ 10/05/2008 11:11:24 AM

Horse hockey is not a polo game played on ice with horses. Hockey mama doesn't mean the same thing in every state, Karl.

        • Posted By: olderwiser @ 10/05/2008 11:15:29 AM

And Karl, you're from Texas, so you know that all of Palin's blather about all of that Alaskan oil is also horse hockey. You could produce everything that they've got underground in one day and it wouldn't change the price of a barrel of oil by three cents. All that they have is only a very small percentage of the worldwide supply already in production.

          • Posted By: love234america @ 10/05/2008 2:40:37 PM

So why aren't the Western and Eastern states demanding that the oil off their shores be put to use for America? We have enough oil on our territory to be off foreign oil if someone would knock some sense into these two coasts' citizens. Then drill in AWAR, and R&S alternative fuel. We have a do nothing Congress. Everyone blames Bush; while he has faults, what in the hell has Congress done lately besides blame each other? They are the branch that makes laws and passes bills. The president either signs or vetos them.

"The opening of the ANWR 1002 Area to oil and natural gas development is projected to increase domestic crude oil production starting in 2018."

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Refuge_drilling_controversy#Estimates_of_oil_reserves

              We don't have ten years.

Ten more years of oil dependence at something like $4 a gallon or higher, considering the current economic situation and the increase in world demand will drive the country into such poverty that we won't need the oil, because we won't have an economy capable of consuming it by then. Even domestic offshore drilling won't produce more oil for at least several years.

And Sarah Palin's talk of "perfectly safe" domestic offshore drilling disgusted me during the debate. There is no "perfectly safe" oil shipping. Santa Barbara just saw a spill recently. The Titanic was unsinkable too.

            • Posted By: Braes @ 10/05/2008 2:52:50 PM

No, including those reserves is what gets us to 3% of the world's reserves. It really amounts to handing the oil lobby more dope to peddle. We need to eliminate Oil from our energy model wherever possible. Oil is the enemy, or have you forgotted $4 gasoline?
People who love America know better. Nice name, oilshill.

Clearly, the comments so far received are by uninformed, prejudiced Democrats. Right to oppose Reagan? History ALREADY recognizes his greatness. His letters are a monument to his intelligence that the left has always disparaged. Biden right to oppose the surge? Only if you feel that defeat and dishonor are the objectives.. I applaud Newsweek for suspending, for a brief moment, its "in the tank" support for Obama.

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 10/05/2008 5:17:31 PM

So...withdrawing from Iraq is dishonorable, but putting nipple clamps on Iraqis, playing rock music in their cells at all hours of the day and night, and other assorted forms of torture are not?

Do you consider the Janjaweed in Africa "honorable" because they've kept fighting even as they burned villages of opposing ethnic groups to the ground and raped and then murdered the women?

You may wish to clear up your definition of honor for us.

    • Posted By: PleaseChange @ 10/04/2008 6:02:12 PM

History is written by the winners and the winners are not necessarily on the right side. Yes, Reagan was "the great communicator." He was a trained actor and knew his lines. He also kept us out of war event though he said that Ketchup is a veggie and that Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do. Don't compare McCain to Reagan.

Karl Rove might not be the best looking guy in the world, he might not even be the best Hip-Hop dancer in the world, but when it comes to Brains, he makes all of you Anti Karl Rove people look like Neanderthals!

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 10/05/2008 5:12:50 PM

"If you don't know sh1t then you still know better."

Rove is very effective at what he does. This doesn't make him smart. It's never intelligent to destroy the credibility and economic prosperity of your own country for the gain of your own special interest - the better you are at it, the worse things get around you.

Rove will probably never go broke himself, but I doubt anyone in America is going to be doing well in the near future. His name is going to become even uglier than it is now. I don't envy his "intelligence".

Whether Obama wins or McCain wins, the country will remain as polarized as it presently is. To the victor will come tremendous hardship. Both say they are instruments of unity. That's a claim that has been staked by every Commander in Chief. I think most Americans have given up on the dream of bipartisanship.

As for Sarah Palin and Joe Biden...why can't we as Americans give them the respect that each has earned? The media delights in destroying people. And objectivity in the media is also a distant memory.

I am amazed and appalled that the media has managed to brand "everyday Americans" as being incompetent to be American leaders. Our current president is Yale-educated. Last time I checked, Yale had a great reputation as being one of our finest Ivy-league universities. But has that made a difference in his presidency? I venture to say that an "everyday American" with an average state college education could have done just as well.

It is sad to me that Americans have lost the ability to show respect for one another even when we disagree.

    • Posted By: BobbySands @ 10/04/2008 4:28:45 PM

I agree that "everyday" does not automatically equate to "bad," just as "Ivy League" does not automatically equate to "good."

It does, however, in this case. Let's make no excuses, Bush got into Yale because of who he was born to, Barack got into Harvard in merit. Palin never would have gotten into either. Does that in and of itself make her a bad candidate? No. But the fact that her interviews and presentation betray no extraordinary intellect does.

Comment: Was this letter from Karl Rove written from some jail out there? Because that is exactly where he belongs. First, George W Bush , never won in 2000, IT WAS HANDED TO HIM by the US Supreme Court. We,the Floridians, should have started a revolt and not accept such a DISASTROUS DECISION- Sarah Palin, should have remembered this decision , at least when MsCouric asked her about SC decisions. Second, we. US Citizens failed miserably but allowing this yp yo to be president in 2004- They used SCARE TACTICS NON SENSE, and all of them, Bush, Cheney, and his cabinet and his cronies like this fellow Rove, ought to be in jail for the rest of their lifes. How quicly this fellow forgot- It was HIM, his genius as they say ( I still do not see it: his genius) who ran the most despickable campaign for BUSH againt MaCain in 2000?? Carolina? They all (his campaign people) knew since 1999 that, GEORGE W BUSH, had no smarts, was a lousy executive, spoke, pardom me, READS speeches written for him, the same as MaCain and Palin do- we all know those are not their words- they are the writers words, and yet ROVE IS a dvicing MaCain and Palin to go after Obama-Biden characther, judgement and the like... Why? you might ask? because they HAVE NO IDEAS-NO PROGRAMS-NO AGENDA- NOTHING-NOTHING... to put our beloved COUNTRY back on track. Obama-Biden do have PROGRAMS- AGENDA- VISION- JUDGEMENT-CHARACTER TO ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS. To end, I'd offer the following: IT IS TIME FOR OBAMA-BIDEN TO BRING THE "KEATING 5" of the late 80's early 90's where this corrupt fellow was involved?? Remember? Iy would be fanatstic to make that point especially now that we have a calamity in our hands and he, MaCain is involved with his lieutenants-lobbyists up to his neck. Wh os talking about OBAMA'S NAD BIDEN'S character and JUDGEMENT??????

  • Posted By: aristillus @ 10/05/2008 4:31:03 PM

Dear Karl: Yeah, the last eight years have worked out really well with your recommended candidate. It's easy to see why we should keep on listening to you now, seeing as how you have such great insight and all. Thanks but no thanks, pal...I'll take Obama.

  • Posted By: davtx @ 10/05/2008 4:16:43 PM

Palin, you may be able to weasel your way into governorship in Alaska, but you can't fool everyone. You abuse power, you are a lobbyists dream, you are the best friend of oil companies and their rich execs.

You are not for the common people, you use scare tactics just like the rest of the republicans for personal gain. I am 100% sure you will be a step worse than Bush.

So... THANKS FOR THE COMEDIES, BUT NO THANKS, WE DON'T WANT YOUR CHANGE TO NOWHERE.

I'm gonna ignore this and talk about how my pig stubbed its toe when coming out the bathroom after putting on lipstick.

I mean, gosh, how fewer toes must a pig have to have in order to avoid stubbing it. Can't a pig ever get a break. Oink, oink.

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 10/05/2008 4:05:06 PM

Rove says Palin's ability to inspire the public is an asset.

    Maybe.

He is conveniently silent, however, on her ability to alienate the public, which she has also done.

And if she alienates more people than she inspires, then she is a liability, not an asset.

The point to all this is, is that any SANE American shouldn't want an "everyday Joe six-pack" in the the second most powerfull position in this country (much less as a president). We need someone seasoned and exceptional. This is serious and frightening that The McCain/Palin ticket even has a chance. They are doing their best to scare the American people into beliveing that someone who headed the Harvard Law Review or his running mate Joe Biden has inferior credentials to someone who finished almost at the bottom of his class or attended 5 different colleges. We don't need "mavericks" or "hockey moms", we need people capable of bringing this country back from the brink that Bush has led us to.

Low-information voters and a butterfly ballot, 2000 win for the GOP.
Low-information voters, voter suppression, and machine irregularities in Ohio, 2004 win for the GOP.
They have doubled-down on dumb, and we should expect the fraud to be thick. Unless we as a people literally demand a paper ballot, and show up in numbers that are impossible to deny, the fascists will steal another election. It is all they have after the guilt-by-association and slander campaign run.
      End the Regime.

McCain and Sarah Palin are so DESPERATE at this point - that they are now saying anything!! Sarah Palin has no credibiltiy or knowledge to speak about anything!! America will not fall for this smear over substance attack coming from a FLUFFY BUNNY like Sarah Palin! Women - Men and America are getting sick of her cutesy, folksy, plucky style. We are in serious times, that deserve serious conversations. Not smear attacks!!

    Palin Around with Traitors
Sarah Palin is accusing Barack Obama of "palling around with terrorists." But isn't her husband a former member of a political party which has treason against the United States as its central tenet?

    Answer: yes.

  • Posted By: gator59 @ 10/05/2008 3:05:51 PM

Brian Williams pointed out that Cheney was in charge of the country on 9/11. Is Sarah Palin up to that responsibility? She has demonstrated a total deficient body of knowledge so she will not be able to make a reasoned decision.

  • Posted By: gator59 @ 10/05/2008 3:01:08 PM

I do not want a candidate who is just like me because I am not qualified to be president. When she gives answers to questions that do not convey an understanding of what the problem is then I become concerned. A con man relies on being friendly and likable and not on being honest and knowledgeable. That describes Ms Palin. The revelation that she is furtive using e-mail that are not governmental is the same thing that the Bush administration has done and that administration has suffered from cronyism and incompetence. Why would we expect more from Palin.

  • Posted By: love234america @ 10/05/2008 2:36:05 PM

The media is missing the point: It's "Obama we barely know you". His mentor was the late communist Frank Marshall Davis whom Obama wrote about in Dreams From My Father. Obama's earlier (before he realized these might costs him votes) policies were very socialist, near communistic: for example: global proverty act for 3rd world countries (Africa), free college tuition & free job training even for criminals, universal 401Ks, govt. matches contribution for low & moderate income families, a fatter earned income tax credit for working poor, more subsidized public housing (who will pay to repair the present public housing projects torn up by the tenants?), universal national service, wage insurance to supplement union workers, etc. etc. Socialism? you bet. With Obama say goodbye to Democracy; you'll be talking to your grandchildren trying to explain "once upon a time in America we were a democracy, that means...." Be smart and do your research, deep research on Obama and his past esp. in his early days.
