I'm surprised that I'm saying this, but "Thank you, Karl Rove." Thanks for showing us how we can expect the McCain-Palin campaign to continue to flounder over the next month. I'm really surprised to see that Newsweek has wasted the ink, but am likewise thankful to Newsweek editors for allowing the readers to view this tripe... All we need to recall is that Rove was W's principal advisor, and that he is held in contempt of Congress, and we'll see through his thinly veiled "advice".

    Karl,
I think you overlooked something, Sarah doesn't connect with 90% of us, The ones that do like her were republicans to start with, so what is the gain to the party? This person is an insult to the rest of us who looked for an able replacement, should the worst happen. You are a lot less perceptive than I thought you would be.

Think what you will of Rove's insight, but there is something to what he says. Why is Obama barely leading? We have an extremely unpopular Republican President, a Repub VP candidate that some see as lacking, and yet here we are in the final month and the status quo still remains. I don't put a lot of stock in Polls but 67% of americans see John McCain as a better overall CIC. How can this be? Perhaps people see Obama as an Elitist, perhaps they realize he has been in the senate only a few years and most of them have been on the campaign trail. Perhaps it is because of the ranting and rabid attacks on Mc-Palin by folks on this and many other discussion boards, or the fact that celebrities with barely enough brainpower to light a christmas bulb continue to attack without thinking of the consequences.
I think McCain and Palin relish the attacks others make, strangely enough it makes them more appealing to "joe six pack" who has always had a soft spot for the underdog.

IN MY OPINION: KARL ROVE SHOULD GET A JOB INSTEAD OF TRYING TO IMPERONATE A MR. KNOW-IT-ALL CHARACTER. HE HAS FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS THE DEMOCRATS TURN TO WIN THIS ELECTION. THIS IS DUE TO THE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE IN PROVIDING SERVICE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THAT IS THE CHANGE THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED.

McCAIN'S PROPOSED CHANGE IS THE SAME OLD PIG WITH LIPSTICK! THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TAKES FIRST THEN GIVE LEFT OVERS LATER. THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE TO USE MOCKERY AND LIES TO GET PEOPLE TO THINK THAT THEY ARE TRUE LEADERS. BULL!

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE KNOW BETTER! THANK GOD! VOTE DEMOCRAT!
THE BEST CHOICE, THE ONLY CHOICE!

If all McCain can do is attack Obama's personality or if he continues to run around like a chicken with its head cut off chasing headlines, instead of presenting a coherent plan for solving America's problems then we will certainly be swearing in Obama as our next President come January.

If anyone actually takes Karl Rove seriously, then I have a bridge to nowhere to sell ya. This is the man who put the most collocal failure of a President in the White House for 8 years. And look where it has gotten us! Plus, Palin, with her winking and blinking ass, has a crazy pastor that wants to 'protest' her from witch craft?! And Palin is a racists as well. The AP (thank god someone pointed it out) came out with an article today speaking on those racistscomments Palin made about Obama this past weekend. Saying he doesn't know America and doesnt' see America like (the all white crowd) they do.

IN MY OPINION: KARL ROVER IS JUST A BIG LIAR AS THE TWO LOST COWS, PALIN AND McCAIN. JUST BY WATCHING PALIN MAKE A JACKASS OUT HERSELF IN INTERVIEWS AND IN THE DEBATE TELLS ME THAT KARL IS BEING WORSE THAN A CROOK. IF SOMEONE KNOWS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, IT IS KARL ROVE.

WHAT IS GOING TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS ELECTION IS THE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY EACH POLITICAL PARTY SERVES THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WHICH IS DELIVERING SOLUTIONS, NOT FIXES, FROM THE BOTTOM UP, NOT FROM THE BOTTOM DOWN. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD MR. K. ROVE.

THE TWO LOST COWS, PALIN AND McCAIN ARE NOT GOING TO WIN IF THEY ATTACK OBAMA AND BIDEN'S CHARACTER WITH LIES AND INUENDOS. FACTCHECK.COM, THE INTERNET, AND RACHEL MADOW WILL
MAKE SURE OF THAT. THIS STRATEGY WILL ONLY MAKE YOU AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY LOOK WORSER, WORSER, AND WORSER!

MR. K.R. TURN OUT THE LIGHTS, ON YOU WAY OUT. THE PARTY IS OVER, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS CANNOT OVERTURN THE DAMAGE DONE IN 30 DAYS! NOT EVEN WITH LIES, LIKE YOURS!

WHAT? AM I GOING TO VOTE FOR THE LOST COWS TO NOWHERE? HELL NO! THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!

AMIDST THE NOISE, AMERICA IS ABOUT TO MAKE A HISTORICAL DECISION THAT MAY CHANGE ITS WAY OF LIFE

Numerous forces are at work, pressuring American voters into a decision during a time of extreme stress.

I saw Howard Wolfson on Fox go up against Karl Rove and won, and if they are so fair and balanced then they should always invite both on together. The cover story about Palin is dead on, yes she is a good governor of Alaska but one who had absolutely no interest in national politics and she made it clear herself prior to be chosen that when asked if she thinks she would be selected, she laughed and implied that would require an immense stretch of the imagination. That McCain has embraced the Karl Rove tactics and gimmicks that made his former presidential runs go down in flames, tells me that he has lost his honour and he did not put country first in picking Palin, which Mr. Rove agreed was simply a political choice especially when Rove himself discredited Tim Kaine as being inexperienced, but that Sarah Palin has. Karl Rove is dishonest and in the end if we choose leaders based on dishonesty then we will get more of the last 8 years. I am sure that in MCCain's first 2 years in the Senate he did not achieve more than Obama has in his 2 years, that's the comparison that should be made not 26 years with 2 years. Newsweek should at least call out Rove on his diabtribe unless they too are endorsing winning elections by character assinations. Has Obama ever bombed the pentagon? No Has Obama ever been under investigation in the state of Illinois? No Has Obama ever been reprimanded for being a part of a scandal in the Senate, that hurt American families? NO Has Obama ever taped a sermon or led a march denouncing America? NO Has Obama ever had a witch doctor pray that he wins this election? NO I see how Obama's children and family react towards him and I know that he's a good man and an intelligent one. He could have selected Hillary to win the election and he ddn't because he was not comfortable with the type of politics that she was willing to play to win, and that to me was honourable. Past vs Future! Gimmicks vs Vision! Win or lose, I respect the level of interest that Obama has brought to the election and I am sure that future generations will better ensure that our presidents are not selected by Karl Rove and the media, but the ability of an educated electorate to sift through the bull and find the candidate who will best represent the issues and hold them accountable.

Mr. Rove, I hold you, at least in part, responsible for the nightmare that is the out-going Bush administration. You helped to put a totally inadequate individual into the White House.
Now we hear "Country First" from the current dynamic duo. Who's country are they putting first? Not mine, and if you would reason through this with the intelligence I believe you have, not yours either.
If you have any need to leave a positive legacy, please start telling the truth on all fronts.

  • Posted By: boobalu49 @ 10/05/2008 11:33:17 AM

I am extremely interested in hearing Karl's sworn testimony to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in response to the Congressional subpoena he received. Anything else is self--serving political tripe.

How can Newsweek expect such drivel to fly! How can we have trust in someone's abilities when all their effort is geared towards confounding people with irrelevant nonsense instead of trying to answer even simple questions like, "Which newspaper do you read?" I'm an "everyday American" and I detest Palin for assuming that she can bank on her charm and winks while standing on the podium for a presidential debate instead of giving direct answers to questions of utmost relkevance, given the time we are going through. She inspires the public to read a newspaper everyday and be better informed.

Rove is just another subpoena dodger, like Palin & Palin & Myers, et al.. He should be arrested immediately and returned to Washington-preferably to the House jail. Newsweek, please remove this "mans" soapbox!

  • Posted By: roland thick @ 10/05/2008 9:49:03 AM

Isnt it crazy how the "Maverick" has to use strategy to win? Why not just use honesty? Do you think America has forgotten his INSANITY hes been displaying for the last month? Now that McCains campaign is back on lithium, maybe they can come up with a new "trick" that will fool the public back on his side! LOL Just having the image of a leader isnt enough Senator McCain, you have to really be one!

  • Posted By: raincity @ 10/05/2008 12:19:36 AM

I agree with Mr. Karl Rove: Sen. Obama is NOT qualified to be the president of the US because he does NOT want to bear responsibility. For 130 times, he could NOT take positions on issues, instead he voted "PRESENT" during the time he was a state senator!!!!! Can anyone explain to me what a vote "PRESENT" means, if not a turn your back from responsiblity of your vote? I'm a professional: with college degree in engineering and work for the Boeing Company. I bear responsibility of my work everyday: if I perform badly on my job, I get low raise in salary, or worse, I may get laid-off. For Sen. Obama, nobody questions his "responsibility" for 130 times. It is amazing with the media. I really need someone from the media question Sen. Obama for me that how he can be an example for young people when he does NOT show his responsibility for his vote. Sen. Obama's winning will electrify young people, not only African American, but other minorities groups as well.

    • Posted By: PleaseChange @ 10/05/2008 8:43:55 AM

First of all that 129 votes -- present -- is actually only 3% of the total votes he case in the Senate. If you're going to use Karl Roves nonsense to go on Obama, you should first learn how Congress work and why a "Present" vote is used.

    • Posted By: Jazzgasm @ 10/05/2008 1:19:35 AM

I live in Chicago. A vote of "present" in the Illinois legislature is a way of indicating that you agree with the basic crux of the bill but you feel that changes need to be made. For instance, there may be too much spending pork. So if a a bill gets a lot of "present" votes, the authors of the bill know that a compromise could potentially be reached. Obama has admittedly not explained this nearly often enough.

I agree with the comment below: Why does Newsweek publish the opinions of a criminal like K. Rove? That's on the same level as wanting to publish O.J.'s book. In a time like this (and Rove was a considerable contributor to our current political and economic situation), I find the media has a responsibility to portray things as objectively as possible.
