I absolutely love this article. As a health professional dedicated to seeing all people improve their health through diet and exercise I see this move by the medical profession definitely the right direction! What has taken so long.Meredith Sobel, Sobel Wellness. www.sobelwellness.com

After more than 25 years working as a professional communicator in the health care industry, I cannot concur more with Ms. Kalb. Talk about a mixed message! Hospital campuses nationwide figured out that smoking had to be banned about five years ago for the very same reason -- you couldn't have doctors and nurses lecturing patients about their cigarette smoking habits when the professionals reeked of smoke. Likewise, obese doctors are not credible when it comes to advising patinets ontheir diets and need to lose weight.

As a physician myself, I find it repulsive at the food chioces afforded both patients and staff in the hospital itself. At my particular institution, we have Chic-fil-a, Wendy's, Einstein Bagels, and Subway in addition to the hamburgers and mac-and-cheese served up in the regular cafeteria. It is difficult to find a healthy alternative to eating at the hospital and it's not always possible to bring a lunch from home. We, the healthcare community, are definitely sending mixed messages to our patients.
