"Ohio officials are investigating whether government computer systems were illegally accessed to acquire personal information about "Joe the Plumber," The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Public records requested by The Dispatch reveal information on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher's driver's license or his sport-utility vehicle was pulled from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database.
Information on Wurzelbacher was obtained on Oct. 17 through an account used by the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency in Cleveland, The Dispatch reported records as showing.
Access to such information from BMV computers is restricted to legitimate law enforcement and government business.
The Dispatch reported that information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department."

The Palin Problem
Yes, she won the debate by not imploding. But governing requires knowledge, and mindless populism is just that—mindless.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE TO BE HELD SUNDAY AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
The Free and Equal Elections Coalition (FREE) and the Columbia Political Union are pleased to announce that a Presidential debate will be held this coming Sunday, October 19th, 2008, on the campus of Columbia University.
ALL SIX of the Presidential candidates who appear on enough state ballots to acquire the 270 Electoral Votes needed to become President are invited. They are as follows (listed in alphabetical order by affiliation):
Constitution Party Candidate: Chuck Baldwin
Democratic Party Candidate: Barack Obama
Green Party Candidate: Cynthia McKinney
Independent Candidate: Ralph Nader
Libertarian Party Candidate: Bob Barr
Republican Party Can John McCain
The Columbia Political Union will present the debate from 8:00pm to 10:00pm in the Altschul Auditorium, located at 417 International Affairs Building. The debate will be moderated by Pacifica Radio's Amy Goodman, the host of "Democracy Now!". CSPAN will cover the debate, and live radio broadcasts are expected.
"The Columbia Political Union is committed to energizing political discourse on Columbia's campus," said Allon Brann, Columbia Political Union Publisher. "As a non-partisan organization, we work to provide students with opportunities to encounter and engage with political ideas across a wide ideological spectrum, and on a wide range of issues."
"It is with these goals in mind that we have organized this Presidential Debate: to give all candidates-- either within or outside of the political "mainstream"-- the opportunity to speak directly to students about their goals on the issues they deem critical for this country."
"We have invited all eligible candidates, and it is our sincere hope that all will participate, to ensure the substance and rigor of the dialogue which we believe is crucial at this time."
Certified letters officially inviting each candidate have been sent to the respective campaigns.
The Free and Equal Elections Coalition and the Columbia Political Union await the response from the candidates. All candidates' supporters are encouraged to contact the Presidential campaigns and urge them to attend.
The Columbia Political Union seeks to enhance involvement in the political process, domestic and international, and draw every member of the campus community into an ongoing discussion of political ideas.
FREE is a coalition of political parties, independent citizens and civic organizations formed to promote free and equal elections in the United States.

I think Obama finally showed up, at least a little bit. He finally showed his -not so cool- side. I knew he had it in him. I really hope that opened some eyes out there! He is a liar & will not give all the facts about his past. When it comes to someone possibly hanging out with terrorists at all, I think we all have the right to know all about it! He was asked point blank & he lied. No surprise to me! Just makes McCain look better! Keep up the great news Obama!

Baby I'll be there to take your hand,
Baby I'll be there to share the land
That they'll be giving away, when we all live together.
So, in the exchange with "Joe the plumber" we find out that Obama really is as radical as his early political acquaintances, and is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Yahoo, back to the 70's we go! So now we know that an Obama presidency really would be as if it were Carter's lost second term after all. -

WOW, I knew that I was getting a left-winged magazine, but this cover of Sarah Palin and the pictures inside that follow really shows a lack of respect and dignity toward her as a fellow human being.
I had hoped that getting Newsweek would give me the "other sides" view on things but this isn't what I was looking for. I will be cancelling my subscription from here forth. Congratulations! -

Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!
Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.
The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."
Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.
Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.
Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.
Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.
It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.
Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. [What about the role of luckbeing in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time? R. R. Pope}
Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker. -

Also, I had heard about an email about this, looked it up last night & found this link, the when I woke up this morning, somehow I ended up on CNN news, they were really getting into the story & nobody is even disputing it, on the Obama side. It is all being ran by his supports. It started in Chicago but the news piece was from Philly. It's not good...

Nins: Thank You for saying that. I agree, the -nasty- talk is not helping any cause, only making him look bad & like you said, it kinda makes Obama supporters look bad, not all, but a few. I am passionate about my opinions, but I don't attack anyone here. Anyway, Thanx again!

Hey Harley, I appreciate your intensity in defending Obama, which is great. But calling Goddess Mom "Hooker Mom" is going a little too far. I know your sense of humor is a little raunchy and Goddess Mom shouldn't take it personally. Sometimes your dirty mouth style posts are pretty funny, like Sarah Silverman. But really, try not to call other bloggers nasty names. It makes Obama supporters look bad. Other than that, I have to say, keep letting it rip!

On October 10, the Alaska Legislative Council found Sarah Palin guilty of abusing power. Immediately Ms. Palin said "if you read the report you'll see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member." This quote by Palin is only 50% true. The Legislative Council report says it was LEGAL for her to fire Commissioner Monegan, since as Governor she has the right to hire and fire her staff at will. The report also says that her firing of Commissioner Monegan was an UNETHICAL abuse of power.
Palin tells you half of the truth, and lies outright about the other half. You know the old saying: If you tell a lie, make sure it contains some truth so it will be believable.
From the report:
Palin tried to force the Commissioner to prosecute Trooper Wooten (her former brother in law) for illegally shooting a moose. The Commissioner explained to Palin that if they charged Wooten they would also have to bring charges against Palin's sister, who was present on the hunt, had the moose permit and illegally let her husband use it. They would also have to prosecute Palin's father, who cut up the moose and stored it in his freezer, sharing the meat with the Palin family. In other words, the Palins were OK with Wooten illegally shooting the moose when it happened. They participated in the hunt and kept the meat. But a year later when Wooten was divorcing Palin's sister, suddenly the Palins turned him in for illegally killing a moose.
The Palins turned Wooten in to the State Troopers disciplinary commission about a year and a half before she became Governor. The Troopers investigated Wooten, finding that some of Palin's allegations were true and some were false. The Troopers disciplined Wooten with a few days' suspension. When Palin tried to get Monegan (the new Commissioner) to re-open the case once she was Governor, Monegan told her he couldn't do it. All the allegations had already been investigated and Palin had no new evidence. Trooper Wooten belongs to a union, and he can not be fired just because the Governor doesn't like him.
So, the Palins hired a private investigator to trail Wooten, trying to catch him doing something wrong. The investigator took photos of Wooten dropping his kids off at school, using his patrol car. The Palins file a complaint, saying it is illegal for him to ferry his kids in a patrol car. They try and get him fired for this, except it turns out that since Wooten was working a swing shift, his Commander had given him a waiver to bring his kids to school in the car.
Wooten and Palin's sister have been divorced 3 years, yet the Palins continue to persecute Wooten. Palin just can't forgive and get past this family drama.

Oh Harley, You are so angry & I am sorry about that. I am not trying to make any rules anywhere, only joining in a public forum where others are doing the same. If you knew anything about mono, you would know that it can take weeks & yes, even months, to go away. And you are not allowed to go to school when you have it. She also called herself a 'pit bull with lipstick' why can people not just type that out? Oh well, like I said, I am not going to sink to your level, I was not writing that for your eyes only, sorry. The one thing I will say, is that you should be ashamed of yourself for talking the way you do, then quoting Bible Scripture to ANYONE. That, my friend, is really messed up. If you know about Palin's water breaking, why are you disputing her giving birth? You cannot have it both ways. She did fly home, to her hospital, to her Dr., so that part of the story is just as silly as the rest of it. Now, I have a life & things to do, so I will go now & let you spew your meanness & hate after I am gone. I do feel sorry for people like you, it is sad that you are just so mean & insulting.
You can brush up on mono here: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/infectious-mononucleosis-topic-overview -

Hey Sarah says she represents "Hooker Moms and Joe Douchebags!" and she does. She also has called herself a "female dog w/lipstick." what's a shorter way of saying "female dog"...hmmm Oh Well, what ever that word is she is it ;)
"Posted By: Goddess_MomB @ 10/15/2008 11:27:46 AM...I am a Godless Hooker now, who thinks for herself"...You think for your self about as as much as Palin deos, she and you are both parrots of the repig hate fest....LMAO!
And yeah when you're a govenor you can have the local paper print what ever you want, so what's your point, she NEVER shpwed sighs pf being preg, she flew AFTER her water broke, with what she claimed she knew was a downsyndrome baby, about a 9 hour flight ffrom texas to alaska BTW, to give bitrth to a special needs child in a clinic that had NO OBGYN, hmmm, I thought trig was special needs, and then ther is the FACT that her daughter took 5 months off from school for MONO...LMAO! that would be the longest lasting case of "MONO" in the history of this country or the "country of Alaska" (sorry but that is what todd and sarah want.)
5 months for "mono"....LOL! Show me an independant DNA test on all three and maybe you'll convince me, now the palin's would never consent, because todd would go bye bye, then what would the AIP (alaskan al qaeda) do? BTW Palin's daughter seemed to be cured by the birth of trig, as she was back to school soon after...hmmm
I am glad you acknowledge my freedom to express myself, please don't be yet another typical repig who tries to make rules here, if you don't like the exchanges, go back to FOX NOISE, you'll get NO opposition there.
ALSO:
Funny how the "lilmoz" CRIES about "angry-cluelessness" and says nothing about Palin's bullsh!t lap god attacks on Obama, about Ayers, and "terrorists", what about Vogler? MORON....how do your own words taste?
Try this Mathew 7:1-7:11 Might help you out there son. -

Harley, what took you so long to attack me? So I am a Godless Hooker now? Cool, did not know that. Lol. Look I am not going to stoop to your evil level. I am not embarrassed at all. I am a smart Woman who thinks for herself, nothing wrong with that. I do not spew hate /meanness or call people nasty names. I assume you are of age, so maybe you could grow up & not act like you are still in junior high & at least try to be civil. I did not call any of you bad names. I was going to refute each of the issues you attacked me on, then I realized that I do not need to. If you do not agree with me, that IS your right. People can agree to disagree. If you check the things I posted, you may just be surprised. I am as sick as anyone, of all the lies being spread. That is why I only post things I have researched. I also have the right to my personal opinion, just like you. Our difference is, I keep it on the election & the candidates, I am not personally going after posters, embarrassing myself by calling them mean names or acting like a child. So far I have noticed that you seem to like to be mean, just to be mean. I have seen many of your posts that are just that, mean/ really uncalled for. I know people like you & nothing anyone can say will ever change your hostile nature. So it is fine, go ahead, keep being hateful/nasty to us. It is obviously your -Way-... I am just really Thankful that You are not running for any office. BTW, here is are the search results from the Anchorage Daily News, to prove Sarah Palin gave birth to her own baby. "I am an avid McCain/Palin supporter, always have been, always will be."...Godless hooker mum
Translation - I am an idiot, whos cares NOT about the rights of other women, I just hate That Muslim.
"It is pretty hard when all I can find is about how wonderful Obama is & how awful McCain is."...Godless hooker mum
Truth hurts huh, that's all I found, hell even Bill Kristol said McCain's campaign sucks...LMAO!
"a speech that has been written for him."...Godless hooker mum
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Obama writes his own speeches...AWE, and in an interview, he can finish a sentence, and even answer a question, unlike that MORON Palin.
"He has cancer in his face"...godless hooker mum
WHAT!?, mccain has SKIN cancer, not face cancer, you silly girl, look it up before you embarass yourself any more.
"McCain has been in war, he has over 22 years in politics. Do the math people!"...godless hooker mum.
Ok, I will "do the math. Here:
McCain has not REALLY "been in war, he's been in prison, but not "war" he was a sh!ty pilot, look at his record, and he got shot down because of it, after ONLY 20hrs of "combat" and since the VN had NO jets of their own, not even any helicopters, what was he really "combatting", so after 20 hrs of burning ants with a magnifying glass he was shot down, did not know how to eject, broke his OWN shoulders and the rest is "history.
McCain has the worst attendance record of any congressman EVER. GONE 61% of the time, which means that out of hi "26yrs" in gongress he has really only been there for aout 9.6yrs of them. and for nearly 8 of those 9 years, he was a lapdog for George Bush....hmmm there I did the math for you, did that help?
"And who the hell are any of you to say that Sarah Palin is bad or wrong for having a baby"..godless hooker mum
Yep I agree, because we ALL know that Sarah did not have that baby, her daughter did, sop instead of "god help us if Obama gets elected, maybe you should pray for Todd Palin for what he did....hmm in the state that leads the nation in rape and INCEST...
God save your sorry and scared a$$. -

Part 2 of 2: I cannot believe how fast this country forgets things too. What about Clinton who sat there, looked into the cameras & blatantly lied to us all about his adultery? If you can lie to the entire world like that about something as HUGE as that, you can lie to everyone about everything, so I do not know why on earth he is having any kind of impact on Obama???s campaign. I would not believe anything out of his mouth even if you paid me merely ¼ of what Obama has been ???given- for his outrageously expensive campaign. Is that really the kind of people we want to run this country? Obama definitely has shown us all that he is great at raising AND spending money like it is no big deal. Has that crossed anybody???s mind? Is that really what we need? I do not. So Obama comes out of nowhere, gives a great speech, as in, he knows how to read & recite a speech that has been written for him. Good job! I can do that. McCain has been in war, he has over 22 years in politics. Do the math people!
I personally have to put my family & our business first. The business that will be taxed even more if Obama wins. We will have to shut our doors after over 15 years. It's our lively hood, it's how we've raised our 3 kids. We employ 8 people who have families to support. What about them? That'll be great for the unemployment rate won't it? Seriously, you all need to really think about it, stop letting the mainstream media think for you. Do your own research.
And who the hell are any of you to say that Sarah Palin is bad or wrong for having a baby at ???her age- & to question her mothering abilities? She is not the only successful woman to ever have kids. We all praise Angelina Jolie for adopting every kid she can get her hands on & is pumping them out like a pez dispenser. It is common knowledge that they have multiple nannies too. So what is the difference? And I saw someone post that she ???should have known the risk of having a baby with down syndrome at her age-. WOW! Are you kidding me? That is one of the most absurd things I have EVER heard! That is mean & hateful. What are we turning into when we say things like that & treat each other this way in the ???best country in the world-?
Good luck to all of us & God be with us if Obama wins! -
Posted By: Goddess_MomB @ 10/15/2008 3:19:11 AM
Part 1 of 2: I just have to say, this entire election process is so tainted & full of lies that it sickens me... I am an avid McCain/Palin supporter, always have been, always will be. I have spent all of the last few weeks researching, digging, looking for anything & everything to see what is true & what is not. It is pretty hard when all I can find is about how wonderful Obama is & how awful McCain is. It amazes me what a bit of money can get you in this country. Am I the only one who sees that as a red flag? What shocks me is that until this election campaign, everyone (for the most part) has always shown respect for McCain, people have listened to & respected him for many years but all the sudden, he is just an old, mean man who is just -a heartbeat away- from dying! He has cancer in his face, as serious as all cancer is, we all know he has been diligent about taking care of himself & obviously has great doctors, so I am not quite sure what all of the hoopla is about that. It was not a huge concern until now. I am also more interested in someone who shows passion than a man who just gives good face all the time. Why can Obama not just show up? He never lets us see the real him. Nobody is that laid back all the time. We need a man with some fire in his belly, not a man who just nods & smiles at everything. Man up already! We ALL know McCain is more than capable of being our Commander & Chief too. And since when did being President turn into a beauty pageant? Not that I think Obama is even remotely cute, but why does it matter what they look like? And what the hell does it mean that one ???looked more Presidential than the other- in the debates? Are you serious? They both have on nice suits, their hair is nice, they do not seem to have any food or dirt on their face, so how the hell does that come into play?
Here is a little something the media will never show you.

AJC Strongly Condemns Rev. Jesse Jackson's Comment on American Jews
October 14, 2008 - New York - The American Jewish Committee (AJC) has condemned the Rev. Jesse Jackson's statement about 'Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades.'
"Rev. Jackson's remarks, which appeared in an interview with the journalist Amir Taheri in today's New York Post, echo classic anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish power," said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris. 'This statement, regrettably, is not the first troubling comment by Rev. Jackson regarding Israel, Zionism and the Jewish people.'
Arguing as a private citizen that an Obama administration could bring significant change to U.S. foreign policy, Jackson was quoted as saying that "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" would lose much of their influence should Senator Obama be elected president."

Posted By: thisisgrant @ 10/14/2008 6:17:36 PM
I am from the UK and have been following the election daily, reading ever report that I can lay my hands on.
Why would it matter if one person is liberal or democrat, why would it matter if one person is black or white, male or female? What does matter is the ability to govern, to tell the truth.
I am sickened by the comment by USM2008. Who do you think you are making comments like that? Do you have any proof beyond some wild internet rumour, not that I have heard one but there must be some proof before making a statement like Obama uses cocaine, if he smokes I don't think that's the end of the world!
If there was any proof what so ever that Senator Obama has used cocaine you don't think that the Republicans would have pounced on it by now, not in some viral that is sent to individuals but buy shouting it from the rooftops. You sir are in idiot!
That can be proved by making unsubstantiated comments, without proof or regard for the truth.
I feel sorry for you. It seems to me you would rather have a president who has caused millions of people to lose money in the USA, which has launched a campaign that has vilified a man after promising to create a substantive campaign. This makes the MaCain a liar and that can be proved.
I lived in America for many years, and have been proud of that fact. I tell people that America has the greatest constitution in the world and it is a shame that there current president is another liar, again this can be proved.
Do you notice I don't talk about rumour or gossip, I can prove through quotes that President Bush has issued, that the man is a liar. (Among many others the trifacto quote that he attributes to himself - never happened, it was actually Al Gore that spoke about barring an economic reversal, a national emergency or a foreign crisis, we should balance thee budget) I can tell you the time and place it was said.
You see sir, I can prove the things I talk about, I have an understanding of both your constitution and your politics and you should be ashamed of your self. You do not deserve to live in a country like America as you abuse it's privalige. I hope you read this and all your friends read this and think of you as an idiot. If anyone wishes me to back up my statements you can email me at thisisgrant1@yahoo.co.uk as I am not afraid of talking to people and proving what I say to be true. Unlike Messer's Bush and MaCain, Rove, Fleisher and Rumsfeld.
BTW palin is also a liar and that was proved this week by members of her own party who asked for Troopergate to be investigated. -

This one is for any repig who thinks tey can handle a driect answer, give it a shot, Palinsore, Vypu$$y, Nowforthep00p, quashedhopeofwinning, etc....
Here I'll give you something to oppose, see if you can with out saying or typing the words CLINTON, Obama, or Democrat, just tackle the subject at hand, let's see what you got Vypu$$y. Once you have answered the question, directly and in context of the question, we can get back to calling names, and Obama bashing, but let's see if you can deal with just an HONEST answer, ready, here ya go:
The problem for McCain is his "Judgment", if he really had superior military insight, he would have never agreed to go to Iraq until Afghanistan was "mission accomplished". If mccain would have wanted to defeat Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, where they make base and train, if he would have wanted to actually bring BIN LADEN to justice, if MCCAIN has TRUE judgment, he would have stood on the floor of the Senate and said "WRONG WAR WRONG TIME!" We would have "WON" in Afghanistan, instead of "cutting" our ability to supply more troops and "running" to Iraq, for a "WAR FOR OIL" and for the bush ego.
If McCain had done that, there would not have been a "SURGE" required, AT ALL. thousands of Iraqis and hundreds od Americans would have been saved...but NOPE! McCain and BUSH wanted to go to a country that NEVER ATTACKED THE US, and star another war, and now MCCAIN AND BUSH want to go "bomb Iran, bomb bomb Iran". before AFGANISTAN or Iraq are clear...and you call that a "military mentality", you call that "Judgment"?
A:
Good luck, now we'll see what you're really made of. -

I'm sorry, but Palin is more of an everyday person than the elitists running on the Democratic ticket. No matter what you want to say about Palin she's only running for Vice President. The Democrats nominated the most inexperienced and unqualified candidate in the history of this country. Every JROTC graduate has more leadership experience than Obama. I can't wait to see how the democratic run news media deals with the recession to come when Obama is President and the Democratic run Congress and Barack Obama decide to raise taxes to get us out of the recession. It's going to be good entertainment (for you Democrats a recession is 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth). We haven't had 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth yet but we will!

The hostility against Palin has nothing to do with her being an EVERYDAY person, but all to do with her being an IGNORANT everyday person. I wouldn't mind having an everyday person represent me as VP or even President; IF they at the very least had an inquiring, curious mind. Palin does not. PLUS, she seems to relish encouraging hate.

Sarah Palin underestimated? I don't understand where this article is coming from starting with the article saying that Sarah Palin won the debate. I'm not sure what debate you watched but honestly, she was barely able to hold on during the event. She did not answer questions and clearly Biden was the winner per all the news media and polls. And I am not sure how we underestimated Sarah Palin. She is, to be kind, intellectually stunted, she rattles off sentences that make no sense (although they might make sense to George Bush or John McCain), she winks at the crowd (wink, wink) and talks about Joe 6-pack. And does she think the voting public is Mr. Joe 6-pack? I have never had a 6-pack, I am a white female over 60 and the fact that John McCain thought he could woo the women voters is an insult to all women. Doesn't he think we could sort through the issues and make our own informed decisions? Barack Obama has run an honest campaign explainaing the issues without personal smears. He has shown honesty, integrity, grit, determination and is knowledgeable. McCain has turned into a grumpy old man who can't help us with the economy but would rather use smear tactics and mud-slining so that we don't notice his shortcomings. Sarah Palin is McCain little attack dog and the drool has clouded her already clouded brain. Give us a break! We never understimated Sarah Palin. We didn't estimate her at all!

I went to the usawakeup cite. Great job of manipulating the facts and pretending that Bush did not exist. They never mention him. It stretches the imagination to blame democrats and particularly Obama when Bush and republicans have been in control for so much of the last 30 years. One would think that a fair report would place blame around. In the end, this blame game does little to help. Change is absolutely necessary. Obama is that change!

HolyRoller, JoseMarti and similar posters: Do me, yourself and the GOP Party a favor: Put just half the effort that you put into bashing Obama and the Democrats into praising the real values of the Republican Party and it's ticket if you want to get McCain elected. All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling, smearing and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving. It turns off Independent voters and so basically serves the Dem's interests.

What hypocrisy...questioning and delving into Sarah Palin's understanding of world iissues without applying the same intesity to the opponents. Why not do the same with Obama and Biden? During the vice-presidential debate Biden made at least four major bludders on facts, important ones. Yet, where was the press in reporting this? And logically, does Obama have any more experience with international issues, or with economic issues, than Palin? If anything his record is missing and difficult to conjure. What affective actions has he ever done internationally and economically? Where is the new media on this? You cannot fool the American public in this way. Most of the media popular journalist and commentators WANT the Obama ticket to win, because their values are substantiated by an Obama win. We will have a congress and a presidency overran with liberalism, with little compliance with our check and balance system . By the way, when Obama says he has always been completely against the war in Iraq...ask him what part? Saddam should have stayed in power to torture and kill a genocidal amount of innocent children, women and men? Does he think that Iraqi society under Saddam was better off, in chaos, living constantly in fear, and in harms way? Does Obama not understand the importance of helping to establish democratic governments in the Middle East and throughout the world? Does he not envision that with democratic societies there is less genocide and starvation, more civil rights, and therefore more peace? Where is Obama's understanding that we are in a new world where in the blink of an eye societies can be destroyed, and therefore we absolutely need a president who understands foreign policy and the need to clarify and support American values throughout the world? Yet, Obama is smarter than Palin?...I don't think so, because what is essential in this vastly complex and changing world is to have a president with a clear array of values, those upon which this nation was based. Does anyone really believe Obama is more pro-American and more understanding of the uniqueness and purpose of our American form of government? Let's not fool ourselves. Obama is the ill-suited candidate here. Where's the press to clarify his problems to the American public? Let's at least be fair.

Certainly you should hold your candidates for high office to high standards in pursuit of excellent. If you do not do that, well, take a look at India and see what you will get if Joe Six-Packs control your legislature! That results in a culture of selfishness leading to corruption, abuse of power, and a complete lack of accountability. You don't want to go there.

It baffles me why the media is abdicating its responsibility in not cover Sarah Palin's association with the AIP. We are living the results of a previous abdication, the war in Iraq, where it failed to question the evidence put forward by the current US president for going to war a second time in Iraq.
In the current instance, Sarah Palin is running around drawing tenuious links betweet Obama and William Ayers while she and her husband has strong ties to an organization, AIP, calling for the secession of Alaska from the USA. She has the nerve to question Obama's partiotism in face of the above facts. Not to mention the finding of guilt on her part in the firing of one of the state's employees because he did not succumb to her pressure to fire her brother-in-law who was going through a bitter divorce from her sister.
What has not had much coverage also, is the fact that the judge in her brother-in-law's case was so disturbed by the harassment of her brother-in-law by her family that he twice issued warnings from the bench to her family regarding such harassment. Yet do we hear anything about this? No, and she gets a free ride from the media regarding these issues. Why are these issues important? because it speaks to her character. As we all know Obama's character is something she and John McCain attacks Obama so viciously on, to the point that some of their followers are calling for Obama's head.
My gawd!, where is the media in all of this? It sits on the sidelines while this hypocrisy takes place. My understanding is that a vigiliant media is an essential part of any democracy, clearly the media is asleep. -

ONE STORY THE MEDIA AREN'T COVERING: SARAH AND THE AIP
Unfortunately, the media have once again fallen down on the job in terms of investigating Sarah Palin's background. This is a major disservice to voters who know very little about this woman.
With the continuous drumbeat of the Ayres rant, why haven't the media given any attention to Ms. Palin's association with the Alaskan Independence Party(AIP). The premise of the McCain's McCarthy-esque attacks on Obama, apparently, is guilt by association. Maybe this would be a good time to examine Palin's association with the AIP. The AIP's creation was inspired by the rabidly violent anti-Americanism of its founding father Joe Vogler. The central purpose of the AIP is to drive Alaska's secession from the United States. In 1992 Vogler renounced his allegiance to the United States explaining that, "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government." He cursed the stars and stripes, promising, "I won't be buried under their damned flag...when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home." Palin has never denounced Vogler or his detestable anti-Americanism. The AIP has stated that Palin was not a member, and the McCain campaign has denied that Palin ever joined this organization. However, Dexter Clark, vice Chairman of the AIP, stated at the AIP 2008 convention that "she was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town ??? that was a non-partisan job."
Palin's husband Todd remained an AIP party member from 1995 to 2002. Sarah can be described in McCarthy-era palaver as a "fellow traveler." While retaining her Republican registration, she attended the AIP's 1994 convention where the party called for a draft constitution to secede from the United States and create an independent nation of Alaska. The McCain Campaign has reluctantly acknowledged that she also attended AIP's 2000 Convention. She apparently found the experience so inspiring that she agreed to give a keynote address at the AIP's 2006 convention and she recorded a video greeting for this year's 2008 convention. In other words, this is not something that happened when she was eight!
So when Palin accuses Barack of "not seeing the same America as you and me," maybe she is referring to an America without Alaska. In any case, isn't it time the media start giving equal time to Palin's buddy list of anti-American bombers and other radical associates?

She was selected to energize the religious right and perhaps peel away a few women voters who may have supported Hillary Clinton. She poses an interesting quandary with regard to the abortion issue. She was recently sent to PA to talk about abortion. I guess the theory was, "We'll pick up Catholics votes in PA by stressing the abortion issue." However, though she was baptized Catholic, Sarah Palin became an evangelical protestant in her teens. Is that the model the Catholic Church wants for Catholic youth? She may be pro-life, but she left the church. A Catholic politician may not support abortion rights on a personal level, but may be pro-choice for public policy purposes because of separation of church and state concerns ("Give unto Caesar..."). The Catholic Church may not approve of that divide but still benefits from the person remaining in the church.

Sarah Palin is not the kind of politician this country needs at one of the highest level of service possible. She is a nasty vicious woman who is a disgrace to woman and above all a disgrace to the intelligent professional women in politics. Her self righteous her above reproach attitude is such a hypocrisy! John McCain's comment at a recent rally to dispel the impression that the McCain-Palin ticket is behind in the polls says it all. He called out several times, "We'll fool them!" Not, "We'll prove 'em wrong!," or "We'll show 'em!" But "We'll fool 'em!" The strategy with Palin all along has been to gain the upper hand with subterfuge, smoke and mirrors. She is way out of her league and McCain did his country a disservice in picking her for his running mate.

Palin is a disgrace to women. She portrays women as complete "air-heads" . As a woman, Palin makes me angry and because of her and her negative attitude there is no way I would vote for McCain. The majority of women I have talked to has said the same thing. If she is supposed to be smart enough to run our country then why does she act so stupid and immature. Sam10 - you are so miseducated in this time of severe economic upheavel and distress among not only the american people, but also the world as we know it.
Don't sit here and type that Obama has been "friends" with Ayers and just becuase you've been listening to Sarah Palin (God help you if you are - especially in light of the finding where she abused her power!) and to talk conservative radio!!
Obama has been the one and only candidate who has a grasp and understanding of our current economic disaster in a way the John McCain does not. He has proven to be erractic and lurching from issue to issue over the course of 3 weeks! This is factual information! When the culture of the Jewish faith look at Sarah Palin - they look at someone who in no way resonoates or relates to them! How can she be a "red-neck" and frankly, not care a whole lot about the african race of american people, but then turn around and claim to "like" another race of american people? To me it seems, it you dislike one race outside of your own - it is true that you are more than likely to not like any other race - outside of your own. And that is amazingly sad for Sarah Palin to be this way in a time in our history where the entire world is evolving to experience the richness that diversity has to offer to our lives.
One more thing Sam - if you want to keep harping on associations, then look in the mirror and start with yoru own candidate - McCain and Palin. McCain with Keating (among many others) and Palin with the Alaskan Seccessionist Party (among others - witchcraft and spells?) C'Mon!!! -

Palin's ambition, energy and move-on part are well taken if directed in right direction. She does not proof to have facts straight in many occasions - there's no essence- meat in what she represent in the job she is seeking. "Not balanced". To be in executive branch of this great nation, cannot afford to anyone who is not balanced - energy and knowledge.

The worst thing about affirmative action is that Republicans don't know how to use it. We found a woman! She's ambitious, narrow-minded, and pliable enough to believe that she's actually cut out for this gig! The GOP is so used to railing against special treatment that the one time they need to use it most--in selecting the person one heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world--they botch the job in a cynical attempt to appeal to women and "everyday people." I am a woman and I am an everyday person. But there is a very important difference between me and Sarah Palin. I'M NOT RUNNING FOR VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. McCain's people should have called in a liberal consultant to help them diversify their ticket in a way that was actually plausible.

To Jon Meacham:
Obviously, the Palin problem lies with your sexist philosophy. I hope you read my comment Jon , and seriouly think about the following. In your article your standard of excellence contains Nixon and Clinton! What was extrodinary about Nixon and Clinton, their impeachments?? Contrary to what you suggest, Nixon and Clinton did not care about the world around them, but only cared about their own corrupt self interests.
Yes, Jon, the U.S. has had the elite, corrupt, wealthy (harvard & yale educated) in Washington for years now. Just look at the mess the elite have made of our government and the U.S. economy. We certainly don't need any more elite like them around.
Jon, Palin is on the ticket to control corrupt politicians, as she has done before. Is that what frightens you Jon?
Should we have to muddle through the next several years with Obama, his pastor Wright, his terrorist friend Ayers, and his elite advisors who have gotten rich by ripping off the non elite folks in mortgages??
What is truely, extremely dangerous about an obama presidency is obamas MARXIST views!!
According to obama, he will: isolate the U.S. from trade (nato), isolate our country by supposedly securing the borders from immigrants (mexico and?), ORDER our underaged children to work free labor, and mandate that all of us (men women all ages) to do military service.
ALL OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED BY OBAMA ARE REMINICENT OF NAZI GERMANY. so, keep asking yourself , Jon, why did obama go to Germany and position himself like a cross (his arms out) on stage, when those German people cannot vote for him?? Was obama embracing Karl Marx????????????? -

Why is it bad to want someone smart to govern the most powerful country in the world? I'm sorry but I don't want anyone "just like us" to govern. I wouldn't vote for 99.9% of the people that say that about Palin. Why is it a good thing to have someone a heartbeat away from a 72 year old cancer survivor that can't seem to string a sentence together with a noun and a verb?
Since when did the United States decide mediocrity was a good thing in a leader? Haven't we had enough stupidity from Bush? Is it really too much to ask to try something different and pick someone smart???
Why is Barack Obama unqualified DN3NS? Serioulsy, what a lame question. Obviously you haven't looked at anything except Republican talking points since this race started. You sound like you could be working for Fox News. Most of the crap you are spewing doesn't even make sense and isn't remotely true.
Palin = Bush/Cheney! She's just as secretive with a sense of entitlement and a feeling of being above the law. A committee of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats found her guilty of betraying the public trust. She has consistently run an office of secrecy, blind ambition, nepotism, cronies and incompetent appointees. At least read both Democrat and Republican talking points so you don't sound so uninformed. -

Give me a break...I understand the author's misgivings, but I find it sickeningly amusing that the same people that find her unqualified find BO qualified! Unbelieveable! Just what makes HIM qualified??? Can anyone tell me?? Being hired by a radical-thinking, former domestic terrorist to give handouts in the name of some type of educational grant and then spending a token number of years in government where he voted to tax and spend other people's money with reckless abandon so he could fund pet projects is NOT experience for president. At least she was making decisions on a daily basis and tries to prevent reckless spending of the people's hard-earned money. Get off her back and start looking closer at the radical democratic candidate that wants to play Robin Hood with your money and have tea with terrorist leaders. I also took great offense to his calling his grandmother a "typical white person." Why doesn't the mainstream media call him on that one? If McCain or anyone else said typical black person, they would be run out of town! Doesn't that make anyone wonder what he thinks of more than half the population of this country?

Of course, I suppose Palin knows nothing about that. Very interesting that she has a taped speech for the AIP 2008 convention. Who is this woman? She is a dangerous radical who is trying to work her way into the national government to help Alaska suceed from America. What plans does she and her friends have for all the natural resources that are going to be in her new country? The FBI should launch an investigation into the activities of Sarah Paling to find out just where her loyalties lie. Good Americans are being lied to and taken on a big ride by this incredibly deceitful woman. America beware: This woman is not what she seems.

This is an excellent article. I have never even considered voting for McCain/Palin, but I do watch all of the debates, the tv interviews, etc.
This campaign has turned me into a political junky, and I am self-involved in all aspects of both sides.
The current turn of events has me very angry and dismayed, and alarmed, at the viciousness displayed at McCain/Palin events. What on EARTH are these two thinking with their assaults on Barack Obama? Of course, the ones who stand up and proclaim how "angry" they are and who "demand that you take the gloves off" are PAID employees of McCain. That is a proven fact. But the damage done in these campaigns has made me sick to my stomach.
We have come a long way in American history, but to attack Obama and try to make their "kool-aid drinkers" think of him as a "terroritst" are simply indefensible and insane!
I pray that Barack and Michele Obama can be protected from the harm that could come to them through these vicious attacks by both John McCain and Sarah Palin. And PLEASE stop referring to her as "Joe Six-Pack"...she is no-where near the normal, day to day, working class American citizen...mother or not...hell, I'm a mother, worked full time, got my paralegal degree while attending a community college when my schedule and finances allowed, raised a family, and then turned around and raised a grandchild. So don't make Sarah into Mother VP of the Year...cause she sure isn't...doggone it....you betcha...YUCK!
But this is a great article. -

Nins. I can't see all your post again because the site will not longer show it, but really? The investigation was whether she abused her powers in firing Monegan. THE REPORT FOUND:
"I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a ontributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. IN SPITE OF THAT, GOVERNOR PALIN'S FIRING OF COMMISSIONER MONEGAN WAS A PROPER AND LAWFUL EXERCISE OF HER CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY AUTHORITY TO HIRE AND FIRE EXECUTIVE BRANCH DEPARTMENT HEADS." (Report at 8, emphisis added).
Once that finding was made, the remaining findings, placed out of order for clearly political reasons, are nothing more than a fishing expedition , or rather, invistigator Sen. Hollis French's promised "October Surprise." ,
Yes, the investigation was bypartisan, right up to the time Palin was selected to run as vp. Then investigator Sen. Hollis French, gave a September 2 interview in which he warned the inquiry could yield an "October Surprise" for the GOP. Any judge in the country would be recused for making such a remark. Hell, the left demands the recusal of justices simply because they went fishing, nevermind predicting the outcome before the evidence. Yet French did not recuse himself, and both Fench and the person responsible for oversight, Democratic Sen. Kim Elton, are both in the famous "Obama Headquarters" photo"

Rep. John Coghill, a Republican who criticized the handling of the investigation, said it was "well-done professionally." But he said some of the conclusions were judgment calls by Branchflower, and recommended readers should view them with a "jaundiced eye." Somehow, this second part gets droped out of the main stream coverage. I wonder why? -

Your letter from McCain demanding action on Fannie and Freddie was in regards to their accounting practices, i.e. the issues that Enron and Worldcom had. It had NOTHING to do with sub-prime lending.

Very fair article. It is an insult when she compares herself with Reagan and Clinton. Both men were two term governors and involved on the national scene. I am curious why the article did not discuss her association and her husband's membership in the Alaska Independence Party. This party is anti-American and wishes Alaska to become its own nation. Why is Obama's association with Aryes (sp?) on a education foundation funded by the Annenbergs - respected Republicans - in question when the Palins belonged to such an Anti-American group. Now we learn she abused her position as Governor.

I think it was unfair of your magazine to print Palin's picture on the cover of your magazine without any touchups whatsoever. Haven't you guys ever heard of Photoshop? Granted, I am not entirely sold on Palin at this point, but I think printing that cover was just plain mean. Shame on you.

I think it was unfair of your magazine to put Palin on the cover with no touch ups what so ever. Your bias is shown. Granted, I am not entirely sold on Palin but I think your cover was done in poor taste. Shame on you.

Excellent article. I thought it was fair and balanced, though sometimes a little to nice to this woman.

What does she have to say about her frequent associations with the anti-America Alaska Independence Party: http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/10/10/palin_chryson/
Does the association speak to her judgment, truthfulness and patriotism? -

Nowforthetruth, I have to disagree with you again. The fact that Hollis French is a Democrat and an Obama supporter has NO BEARING on the decision by the Alaska Legislative Council whereby they found Palin guilty of abuse of power. It was the FACTS in the case that showed her guilt. You are overlooking the fact that this investigation had started BEFORE Palin was named as McCain's VP nominee. You also fail to mention that the Council is made up of both Democrats and Republicans. You point out that a prominent Democrat is involved in the investigation but fail to tell people the whole truth. Instead of "Nowforthetruth" I think your new name should be "Now for the half of the truth I want to tell you."

Nowforthetruth, you are right that Todd Palin has the right as a private citizen to petition the government for anything, including urging them to investigate his former brother in law. No problem there. But here is what was wrong with the whole thing: Todd Palin was given access to government officials and he represented himself as an emissary of the Governor, not as a private citizen. Todd Palin was given confidential personnel information about Trooper Wooten that he had no right to know. This could land both him and the officials involved in jail, not to mention open to civil suits brought by Wooten, aganst both him and the State of Alaska. This little family feud of Sarah's is getting VERY expensive for the taxpayers.
You are right that Commissioner Monegan told Sarah Palin that it was inappropriate for him to discuss the case with Sarah, since she was Governor and it was improper for her to interest herself in this matter, that it might come back to bite her in the butt. And it did. Deservedly so. Anyone who reads the report can see that Palin kept turning the screws to get Wooten fired, even after Wooten had been investigated and disciplined for all of the allegations she brought forth. It's over. He was investigated and punished. Plain didn't like the fact that he wasn't fired. Well, I don't like the way lots of judicial decisions are made. But once they are made, it's done. You can say you disagree, say it's not fair, but ultimately you have to get over it. Sarah can't accept this. -

If this were a man that could not remember other Supreme Court Decisions, no one would have made a comment. Quite frankly I am so tired of traditional Washington politics and people that are born and bred to run for office that I find Gov Palin refreshing. Let's talk about what she has accomplished instead of nit picking the small items she may not be able to recall on National television. Shame on Couric for not supporting a fellow intelligent woman!! Thanks, Nins, for the information on Palin! Your information and analysis corresponds with what news reports are saying. Neither Palin, McCain, Bush, Republicans, nor Fairness1st will ever admit to a making a mistake. They blame Clinton, because blaming Obama rings hollow, and it is. Which committes did McCain chair or offer solutions when republicans had the majority? Who is John McCain's Chief of Staff? Bush43 inherited a surplus and then squandered it with the republican dominated congress. Bush44 is precisely what to expect with John McCain. To paint McCain and Palin as mavericks and not the status quo is ludicrous, a bad joke, and the majority of the American people are smart enough to get it. At least most of the comments lately have contained some information and most of the ugly namecalling and character assassinations have stopped. There is no reason we cannot discuss politics like responsible adults.

The report charges Sahara Palin with abuse on the grounds that she did not intervene to prevent Todd Palin from continuing to contact State officials regarding Trooper Wooten. [Report at 65-66] The problem with that conclusion is that she as Governor has no right to do so.
Todd Palin is a private citizen, and as a private citizen, he has a constitutionally protected right to petition the government, a right perhaps most recently spelled out in the Norr-Pennington doctrine. He does not lose th
