As governor of Alaska, she should have at least named the Supreme Court ruling on reducing the damages that Exxon will have to pay in relation to the oil spill. And this "average" American can name plenty of
Supreme Court cases that she disagrees with, starting with the ruling on the 2000 election. Anybody running for Vice-President had better know more than the "average" American, because they could quite possibly be running the country one day.

Joan W - It's not about how pretty Palin looks on the cover. It's about Newsweek's attempt to project her in the least flattering light possible because of their liberal bias... not unlike a teenage girl's prank against a rival.

For some reason, the not so bright people seem to think that McCain is all about our troops because he was a POW (who spilled his guts within 4 days of capture
). veterans report card website will prove to people that Mr. Obama has shown more concern for the troops. McCain voted AGAINST body armour for our troops.
McCain voted to cut off funding for our troops, where were Cindy McCains chills when her husband cut off funding for her son (who is in a cushy job)?

Check McCain's record on troops through the vaterans organizations out there, not the campaign, he has not tried to look out for them, he uses them to further is own agenda.

In no way shape or form did she win that debate! Biden had a better grasp of the issues and demonstrated that he is far more qualified to be Vice-President than she did. She didn't even answer all of the questions the answers she did provide were nothing more than soundbites.

Palin is another stunt from McCain, a calculation to supposedly bring her votes from Hillary supporters (actually their beliefs are the opposite), feminists (even though she's far from the feminist ideology), and those independents who can be easily fooled. We have seen during the last weeks that she's, and probably never be, ready to be President or VP. She can't even answer questions that my 14 year old niece can, she barely survived the debate by repeating lines that someone wrote for her, giving non-answers and dodging the questions. Moreover she is already involved in corruption, unethical behavior and abuse of power. We need someone above the average... she's intellectually just alright. We cannot afford a "just alright person" for the hard times ahead. McCain put his political calculations first, not our country! Obama/Biden: JUDGMENT and EXPERIENCE!

Here are a few reasons why you must vote for Obama for president of your great country and commander in chief of your brave military,

. Obama sat in a church for 20 years listening to hate sermons by a hate minister. This minister was his mentor and political advisor and is close enough to the minister to call him 'uncle'.

. Obama is a follower of a hate Catholic priest.

. Obama was extremely close friends with domestic terrorists who he knew to have blown up federal buildings and felt that they had not done enough.

. Obama is backed by Farrakhan, hired Farrakhan followers, and participated in Farrakhan's million man march.

. Obama is extremely close friends with the convicted real estate embezzeler, Rezko.

. Obama is extremely close friends with Khalidi, who he knows hates Jews and supported the PLO terrorists, and who was responsible for getting Ahmadinejad into the US to speak at his college.

. Obama has the backing of Hamas and radical leaders such as Chavez, Ahmadinejad, and Castro.

. Obama's campaign donated $800,000 to ACORN to help register voters, whether they were qualified or not.

. Obama received the second highest contributions from the failing financial insitution, Fannie Mae.

. Obama hired former executives of the failed financial institutions to help in his campaign.

. Obama has stated that he will reduce the strength of our military making it one of the weakest in the world.

. Michelle Obama has displayed her hate for America on numerous occasions.

. Obama refused to wear a flag pin, salute our flag, and to sing our national Anthem,

, Obama vsited 57 states during the primaries. 57??

. Obama has successfully divided this country, pitting white against black, and Democrats against Republicans.

. Obama is an elitist and looks down on small town Americans.

. Obama is the least experienced candidate ever nominated by any party.

. Obama wants to destroy capitalism in this country and replace it with Socialism and Maxism.

In lieu of posting about the need to check the regurgitation of talking points, I'll instead offer up a brief analysis of one of your points.

"Obama has stated that he will reduce the strength of our military making it one of the weakest in the world."

        First, when?

Second, how is our military not gutted RIGHT NOW, due to the belligerent overcommitment of the Bush/McCain axis of fear?

Third, considering that much of defense spending goes nowhere, Obama wants to cut the porcine defense programs that were the darlings of the Republican administration and their cronies. The only reason you're up in arms is because Rush told you to be. So... why is it bad to cut exorbitant military spending and instead put money into body armor, and into redesigning and rebuilding our fleet of Humvees so they aren't as susceptible to IEDs?

Don't you care about the lives of ours troops?

Or are you, like the current administration, so hell-bent on WAR WAR WAR that you'd rather our soldiers die needlessly than to admit "defeat". Like we haven't already effectively lost that conflict.

The only reason the "surge" worked was that we PAID OFF the militias. Last I checked the Republicans were up in arms about people giving money to terrorists, yet they are the biggest and most hypocritical culprits.

Let's follow the money thing one step further:

The rate of donation to the Obama campaign vs. the McCain campaign from actively deployed military personnel is 6 to 1.

The soldiers who are dying for us in an illegal "war" want Obama as their POTUS. I suppose that makes them "stupid" and "liberal: and "whiny" and "defeatist"?

You act as if McCain is sacrosanct.

McCain lives in a glass house. You shouldn't get in the rock-throwing business.

      • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 10/10/2008 1:31:29 AM

I couldn't say it any better myself, so here is Steve Benen from The Washington Monthly on guilt by association:

"Americans need to ask themselves if they've ever befriended a convicted felon who advised his supporters on how best to shoot federal officials in the head. John McCain has.

Americans need to ask themselves if they've ever used the money of a convicted criminal to help them buy their house. John McCain has.

Americans need to ask themselves if they've ever befriended a radical televangelist who has lashed out at the Roman Catholic Church, calling it, among other things, "the great whore" and "a false cult system." John McCain has.

Americans need to ask themselves if they've ever sought economic advice from a far-right former lawmaker who "has diminished American solvency and power beyond the wildest dreams of anti-American terrorists." John McCain has.

Americans need to ask themselves if they've ever befriended a radical televangelist who blamed the attacks of Sept. 11 on Americans. John McCain has.

Your ignorance is truly astounding. Go on and continue to believe the lies and rhetoric like a good little bigoted Party toady, and remember it was a Republican Administration who came up with the so called Socialistic bailout plan, and that other Republicans including McCain voted for it. Not to mention McCain's latest doozy of a buy high sell low plan. Though, Maxism might be fun. I like Max.

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 10/10/2008 12:33:40 AM

and here is another reason too...

An investigation into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner can proceed, Alaska's Supreme Court ruled Thursday, clearing the way for a Friday report to the state Legislature on the issue.

The justices rejected an effort to halt the probe by the Republican vice presidential nominee's allies in the Legislature, who called the investigation an attempt by partisan Democrats to sabotage the GOP ticket.

The justices unanimously upheld an Anchorage judge's ruling last week that dismissed theRepublican lawsuit and upheld subpoenas for top Palin allies.

The former commissioner, Walt Monegan, has said he was fired in July after refusing pressure to sack Palin's ex-brother-in-law, State Trooper Mike Wooten. Palin denies any wrongdoing, saying Monegan was dismissed after clashing repeatedly with her over budget issues.

She originally agreed to cooperate with the probe, which was launched by a bipartisan commission of the state Legislature in July. But after Sen. John McCain tapped her as his running mate in August, her advisers dismissed the investigation as "tainted" by partisan politics and began to straight-arm the inquiry.

The governor's husband Todd and several top aides spent three weeks resisting subpoenas issued by the state Senate in September. But after last week's decision by Anchorage Superior Court Judge Peter Michalski, and with Friday's deadline for the investigation's final report approaching, they agreed to give statements to a special counsel this week.

Firstly, I will acknowledge my inherent dislike of Palin based on her "wildlife management" policies. (I am a moderate Republican.) This dislike, however, has no bearing on my following comment regarding the recent Newsweek cover. I am really confused by the uproar surrounding the "tight shot" of the Alaskan governor; women in this country are receiving a truly duplicitous message. If a woman is airbrushed, then that's bad because it sets a standard that normal females can never achieve. And now we're being told that when an extremely attractive woman, Palin, is NOT airbrushed, that's worse because we can see her mustache and pores, etc. and that's unfair to the Republican party. So which is it, already? Is the airbrushed version the ideal, or is the normal version ideal? And, most importantly, what does this have to do with politics--who the heck cares--is this not an election to decide what team will lead the free world, and not a beauty pageant? I wonder if a "tight shot" of Biden, or even Hillary Clinton, would have generated such froth. Furthermore, for a VP candidate who prides herself, and has BASED her campaign on being "one of us", why the fervor over appearing as "one of us"?? None of this makes any sense whatsoever. Sarah Palin, despite my inhibitions regarding her political background and experience and her lust for shooting wolves from helicopters, is a beautiful woman physically. Gorgeous. And so for her to be picked apart thusly and for Newsweek to be chastised for allowing her to appear as her true self--what does that mean to those of us less attractive than she? This ENTIRE campaign has itself imploded into tabloidism, and again, I fear Americans will be seen as superficial, stupid , and weak. If we as a country care more about Palin's facial hair than the economy, the terror threat, oil independence, etc., what DOES that say about us? And who really IS "Joe Six-Pack", anyway?

Each day that passes is discovering new ominous symptom of the serious threat that looms over this country, if Barack Hussein Obama were to get the presidency. Unfortunately not much time left for a vast majority of the American people, fascinated by Obama, as were the Cubans by Fidel Castro, open your eyes to the truth and the danger they signify the arrival of the radical left and the socialists of the XXI Century to the White House.

Only a miracle can save America. All surveys suggest that Mc Cain will suffer a sweep such as that experienced when Republicans took Barry Goldwater's candidate.

What we have been able to go hear Obama, his past and his future plans, have convinced us that it is not about whether you're Republican, Democrat or independent, but if you love this country and if you want to save the debacle and the and anti-democratic populist wave of "socialists of the Twenty-First Century.

This video you can see by clicking on the following link:

    ???See the YouTube video here

clearly demonstrates well as prepare rapid-response brigades Obama or if you prefer, the Young Obama, Obama Circles or the SS or the Taliban Obama Obama. All these names can apply to this group of young black men, who even before Obama has given its power and will be indoctrinated and physically prepared to do in America, just as Hitler did in Germany, Fidel Castro in Cuba, Chavez in Venezuela or the Taliban in Afghanistan.
    Watch This Movie
???If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.???

    -- Winston Churchill

Hard to believe, but this, friend reader, is happening in America, in the heart of USA. This video was taken at a middle school in Kansas City. If, even without having been elected chairman of Obama people already trained and indoctrinated schoolchildren, what will happen when they have their hands in the springs of power? How many more units are trained secretly? Nobody knows. This comes to light that is just the tip of the iceberg of a murky plan to take to America from the inside: The realization of the dreams of Lenin, Muslims and the enemies of American democracy, a bet that for many years by the infiltration to defeat. They believe that the time has now arrived. Do we: you, me, we're going to do? Are we going to stand idly by watching as destroying the future of your children, grandchildren and your family? The time is urgent. Become a defender of the American way of life that you've enjoyed. Say no to lies, say no to evil and hypocrisy. Say no to radicalism. GET AWAY FROM OBAMA NOW. TOMORROW MAY BE TOO LATE.

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/10/2008 10:17:51 AM

      Okay.

Are you worried that Kansas is focusing on this and not enough on an anti-science Creationist curriculum for their public school system?

Nixon had a crazy youth movement supporting him, as well. As did Kennedy. Popularity and organized mobilization are scary for Republicans because they lack passion. Generally, they follow the party line to a T, to their credit, because it's worked well for them in the recent past. Unfortunately, look where that's gotten us.

I'd rather have a mobilized grass-roots organization helping get Obama elected than not.

Don't let political spin hide your jealousy. Just come out and say how you wish McCain could do what Obama is doing.

Interesting conclusion Mr Meacham. "Would we muddle through if Palin were to become president? Yes, we would, but it is worth asking whether we should have to." Now, substitute "Palin" in this sentence with "Barack Hussein Obama" and substitute "just-folks" with "elitist". What do you have? Equal time. Fair and Balanced.

First to changeiscoming, you are the type of woman who makes the rest of us look stupid, on the race issue, I don't think most of us care anymore about color, I would have voted for Colin Powell or even Condalesa Rice, but not Obama, and on the Muslim issue apparently you haven't seen enough of Obama's interviews, he said himself "my Muslim faith", and the interviewer says do you mean your Christian faith, and Obama's answer was "yeah yeah, that's what I meant. You can see this on YOUTUBE if you want to check it out. As for Hillary, if being a liar, thief and stupid is what qualifies you for Vice President they yeah she was qualified. She was also the laughing stock of the world, if she had kicked Bill' butt to the curb after totally humiliating her she might have been taken more serious. I have been a Democrat all my life until this year, and I have researched both sides in depth and our best bet is McCain/Palin.
Everyone should go to Youtube and search for Obama meltdown, just a hint of the man who some want to be our president, he says I've already visited 57 states and have 2 more to go, you make the decision.

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/10/2008 10:09:19 AM

Obama's gaffes seem large because he DOESN'T MAKE ANY. Not compared to McCain, at least.

Okay, so you find one example of Obama losing his cool on the campaign trail. Do you have any idea how stressful campaigning is?

Search for McCain blowups on youtube and you'll find lots, and not all of them via campaign footage. Several I found date back several years, there's one on the Senate floor... McCain is irascible, exactly the kind of person we don't need in this time of tumult and violence.

There is a virtual swarm of FACTS over the Hussein campaign. An avalanche is about to completely derail this CROOK and FRAUD. Here is ONE of the latest.........from the National Barack Corp. no less....

By Jim Popkin, NBC News Senior Investigative Producer

The Obama campaign???s Muslim outreach director participated in a meeting in mid September that was attended by several controversial Muslim activists, NBC News has learned. The Obama campaign now concedes that was a misjudgment, and that its top Muslim staffer would not have attended the meeting if she had known the full participant list beforehand.

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."

TV was not invented in '29 and Roosevelt was certainly not president, but where was the press coverage on that? If Governor Palin said that, she would have been attack in every major media group.

The candidacy of Sarah Palin in the United States of America is the one proof, if anyone still questions it, that the United States of America is indeed the land of liberty. Only in America can the extremities of a poll of can coexist side by side, on the good end, the one who has the audacity to hope in a better world and in humanity while the other has the audacity to run for office with the only qualification-being popularly inept and getting away with it. The unfolding of America' s Presidential election has been unbelievable. Your country is besieged, among other things by the admittedly failing war in Iraq and the catastrophic economic breakdown yet Sarah Palin has the audacity to say she can lead your country. Americans have got to realize that their country is the lone super power of the world and that small powerless countries are "plagued" whenever the U.S. of A sneezes so to speak. The reaction of the world stock markets to the fall of wall street but just one example and if they have any doubt of their might, the example of power in the illegal Bush and Blair tandem act of bombarding Afghanistan while the U.N. was STILL discussing how to deal with the issue in 2001 and not being reprimanded for it and in fact brought the world to the new era of "war on terrorism" that resulted in the destruction of one of the oldest historical site in the world, Iraq, is the only thing they need to consider. You are leading this world, hands down and why every american should keep in mind that they are not just deciding their country's fate and albeit grudgingly accepted by us, the world as well. Even the joe six packs of America has to act responsibly in voting for the QUALIFIED candidates to the White House for not only would these individuals have the task of leading your country but they hold the political equilibrium of the world. And the joe six packs have got to understand that it is not about voting for someone they can just identify with but someone who understands them completely and has the qualification to seek and implement solutions and resolutions to what is BEST FOR ALL. There is no mistaken that this election is beyond historical-the outcome of it is sure the change world history and how everyone perceieve the world. We, on the outside of America, sure have no right to dictate on how your election comes out but we sure can pray that Americans come November will vote RESPONSIBLY. Their action will dictate what kind of world we will have for the next 4 years but will lead us either a new great good era of humanity or the worsening of situations all over the world.

We are not going to be any power unless the economy is corrected, the middle class has been restored to a stronger position. We are going into a global recession, or possible depression depending how things go over the next four weeks when the money from the federal government starts getting through to the credit markets.

There were more credible choices that McCain could have made for Vice President, and this article would not exist. I think she was not properly vetted. I think the Peter Principle has hit badly for her. As a matter of fact, her approval rating has gone way down, and for good reason.

Yes, America is the land of opportunity, without question. However, we are in the most criticle times that world has faced since the Great Depression. People are scared. People need more that someone who is a populist. We saw what has happened over the last eight years. People have come to realize that ordinary will not cut it for this round.

The most important message is for everyone who is eligible to vote, to vote.
