It won't make any difference. The press will never investigate. Henry the Waxman will never investigate, (there is someone to investigate). Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Chucky boy Shummer and on blah blah. Bubba was never investigated for his deals. Stalinist democrats never get investigated. However if these were republican.....

Isikoff - you have been a reporter for forever. In re: your conclusion: "The McCain campaign agreed; the Obama campaign did not." The CRP was requesting information on 'bundlers,' not all contributors.

Please earn your salary. That same conclusion has been written verbatim in many other published articles and is most likely a result of cut-and-paste from an RNC press release.

Get some stones and do the job you aspired to when you were hungry instead of resting on your laurels.

Mtobias.....grow up. Not everything is a Rovian conspiracy. Fact is there is a lot about Obama that is FISHY in the extreme. From his dubious "friendships" to his inability to speak without a teleprompter. To his lack of experience or success doing ANYTHING. By the way, even SNL got it....it wasn;t the Republicans who messed up with Frannie and Freddie, 1 guess who's it was????

    By thw way

Fannie/Freddie+Carter +Reagan+Bush1+Clinton+Bush2=2 more Presidential terms by Republicans. Maybe less time in the jungle and more in civilization before spewing? Prohibition was an amendment and it was repealed. You are at fault also if you knew something was haywire and never mentioned it to either wing of this bird and never demanded corrective avtion.

FDR started it, Lyndon Johnson privitized it, Carter & the CRA, Clinton expanded it. 2001 Bush started trying to stop it. Dems blocked him, some even using racial language. Facts are facts.

    • Posted By: bob graham @ 10/05/2008 5:25:02 PM

Problems may have started with Carter, but they grew in Reagan, Buah, Clinton , Bush years, most notably Regan and GWB years. At the very least, one has to wonder why it took 24 years for McCain to say or notice anything? And wgy so much spending was done while Republicans had total control? Why do ao many distrust the govt.? Wars we should have never been iolved with ruined our image world wide.

Could it be the brain drain started twenty years ago in the northeast, because of the loser democrats being in charge their, and the smart people . left for places like Texas and Florida , good jobs, low housing cost, nice people, low taxes run by republicans

      • Posted By: hotraining @ 10/05/2008 11:13:50 PM

The link below contains a purported list of the top 25 in Congress who got contributions from the folks at Fannie and Freddie. Obama is listed third, after Dodd and Kerry, even though Obama is just a junior Senator. Obama is followed next by Clinton. Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi are on the list as well.

For an interesting article purporting to detail the House Financial Services Committee Chairs long history with Fannie Mae, See http://www.businessandmedia.org/printer/2008/20080924145932.aspx

"House Financial Services Committee Chair promoted GSEs while former 'spouse' was Fannie Mae executive."

    • Posted By: USAGal @ 10/05/2008 5:19:50 PM

The same analysis also showed that Senator McCain acrually recieved far more money from Fanny and Fredie directors and lobbyists. Senator Obama received more from lower level employees, as is the case with many companies and the US military. Wht not read full research instead of just parroting 527 talking points?

      • Posted By: jmarkw @ 10/05/2008 6:59:09 PM

Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Barack Obama ALL came out smelling like a rotten rose with the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac catastrophe. Yes there were some Republicans who received money too, but NO WHERE NEAR the contributions received by Frank, Dodd, and Obama.

But what is worse than taking a campaign contribution, is then letting that contribution BUY and/or INFLUENCE the way you vote.

John McCain, George Bush, Hillary Clinton and several others TRIED to sound the alarm TWO YEARS AGO that if we did not do something about Freddie and Fannie then there was a housing/mortgage crisis coming like no other.

BUT.... contrary to what Sen. Obama now says..... those TOP THREE receivers of money BLOCKED ANY effort to head off the crisis. The Democrats BLOCKED the regulations that could have avoided or at least lessened the current CRISIS.

That.... is the TRUTH.... not matter how you and the DNC try to spin it.

        • Posted By: netteo @ 10/05/2008 11:11:11 PM

President Bush started raising alarms in 2001. 34 times in his administration. Dems blocked all his questions/concerns/oversight.

Simply NOT true. Not true AT ALL!! Either you are being lied to, or you are not being honest yourself. You are flat out wrong on this one.

Hah hah hah. Spew your hatred, ignorance and slimly veiled racism all you want. It's Obama in a landslide!
In your warped mnds, there's not an honest living black man on the planet, so we expect you to cry foul and argue FOX talking points to smear and demonize a great man. That's what you do. That's all you know. Tear greatness down so you can feel better about your won lousy existence. Remember as you call someone a fraud "it takes one to know one."

    • Posted By: netteo @ 10/05/2008 10:55:46 PM

Who cares about Obama's race? Doesn't matter AT ALL!!!!! What matters is that OBAMA is not an honest man. He has really bad/criminal friends, he SUED banks for ACORN to get more bad loans that helped create our current finacial crisis, he has NO EXPERIENCE at all to run a country. You can hide behind OUR RACISM, but the FACTS are that Obama is NOT qualified to be president. And all the illegal campaign contributions will not change that fact.

Two important point from the article: First as to this quote: "In two recent letters to the Obama campaign, Federal Election Commission auditors flagged those (and other) donors and informed the campaign that the sums had to be returned. " I don't think the letters from the FEC are that recent and just as importantly, the point that there are "other" such phony contributions. This has been an issue for some time, even during the primary season so why hasn't the MSM been on it.

Two, another quote is startling: "(In a similar case earlier this year, the campaign returned $33,000 to two Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip who had bought T shirts in bulk from the campaign's online store. They had listed their address as "Ga.," which the campaign took to mean Georgia rather than Gaza.)" What Palestinian has $33,000 in loose change to donate to a campaign for US President.

Finally, why hasn't this been front and center for the MSM (in contrast to their investigation into the pregnancy of Palin's daughter) and why isn't there an investigation by federal criminal authorities?

Thanks, Mr. Isikoff for writing about this.

Any moron would know where obama got the money...it came from Exxon...Halliburton...Enron..and their other partners in crime. amounts to about 1/1000th of the profit the republicrites let them steal from the american taxpayers!

      • Posted By: netteo @ 10/05/2008 10:52:02 PM

What? Exxon paid almot 33 BILLION in taxes in the 2nd quarter of 2008. That is 3 TIMES their profit.

PS - Dems receive more $$ from corporations the republicans. Educate yourself. You look silly.

Obama's is a racist. His creepy cult followers are scary. He has shown he will play the race card. The FBI has to go in and arrest them all including this piece of garbage Obama and his fat ass racist wife.. We saw the democrats take dirty money from non citizens before , and know one was ever prosecuted.. The city worker I see every day picking up dog poop in the park has more of a resume than tis empty suit OBAMA/

Obama has proposed plenty of legislation - do any research whatsoever and you'll verify this.

  • Posted By: Caldwell Young @ 10/05/2008 10:09:59 AM

Newsweek runs an article about how some mysterious contributors submitting false information contribute above the limit donations to Obama's campaign, and includes the detail that the Obama campaign returned these contributions, and a bunch of whackos out there repeat the Rove/Republican playline, that the Obama campaign profits from sinister overseas donors. They'll never give up. Obama-Biden are our best choice.

    • Posted By: netteo @ 10/05/2008 10:44:59 PM

Wow- consumed much of the kool-aid have you? Go to this article for a little more "proof". http://www.newsmax.com/headlines/obama_nigeria_fundraiser/2008/08/21/124060.html
There are also questions regarding NUMEROUS other donations including some coming from Eurpe & the Middle East. It is against the constitution for donations from foreign sources. Just because Obama thinks he is above it all, the truth is he isn't. Do you think that only Americans gave money at George Clooney's Geneva fundraiser? DOUBTFUL. Wake up and see that your "guy" is worse than any politician in our history!

    • Posted By: SallyFR @ 10/05/2008 11:03:05 AM

The Obama campaign DID NOT give the information. It was only when investigated and asked that they did.

The issue is the Obama campaign REFUSES to turn over their database of small donors. The McCain camp did. there may be some problems found in the McCain database - so they can be fixed. If the Obama camps is sure they have no problems why not turn it over.... You are willing to take word on FAITH & HOPE & AUDACITY (which this really is - the audacity of not being transparent)?

"whoputsamericafirst"...Clear? You're kidding...right? Obama is no different than any other aspiring politician anxious to get into the game. Once in the only rule is don't get voted out!

Obama has never demonstrated by one word in one speech or one piece of legislation (I forgot...he never proposed any legislation) that he cares one iota about the Constitution. Only a fool would suggest he has. I don't care much for McCain either because in my book he's just a little to the left of center as far as his voting record is concerned (You know what a voting record is...right?)...but I can't fault him for defending the Constitution, as he did as a POW...I don't care what any young puke says...that was a major sacrifice and anyone who has not served their country does not have the right to question McCain's defense of the Constitution...you can't say the same for Barack Hussein Obama...Clear to you he cares more about the U.S. Constitution...what a joke!

The funny thing about donations from businesses is that they only really help when times are good. Fannie and Freddie bought political support (mostly from Democrats admittedly) and were allowed to play their fraudulent game. But when things go bad, politicians are more eager to show that they have not been bought. A good example is Enron and Bush--Bush was friendly with them when times were good, but would not lift a finger to help them when things went South. If these donations are repeatedly brought up to Obama and other Democratic leaders, expect a very harsh response on their part to the mortgage companies. Fannie and Freddie bought leniency, but they may also have bought their demise.

      • Posted By: netteo @ 10/05/2008 10:35:23 PM

Enron gave more to dems than Bush.
