For eight years, Bush and the republicans have conditioned America to be afraid and live in fear. They are now playing Americans for all they can get out of that fear card.

Fear and smear is how the republicans gain POWER and CONTROL OVER THE PEOPLE. LIES, DISTORTIONS AND EXAGGERATIONS are the tools they use to accomplish their purpose. This is what we are seeing right now.

If they make it, once again when the election is over, all the peon voters will be cast to the wayside and power, money and indifference to the middle and lower class will reign once again. We will be stuck for four or eight more years of the past.

I reject these false qualifications for President. I reject the abundance of lies, distortions and complete anti Obama fabrications which are condoned be the McCain campaign and appears on this and other web sites.

No talk on the economy, health care or any of the other issues with respect to what it takes for ordinary people to live and prosper in the reality of day to day.

Only attacks with concocted false relationships on Obamas character, even though the major news organizations have concluded that no real relationships existed or does exist.

HOW MANY OF YOU WILL AGAIN ALLOW YOURSELVES TO BE USED AND MANIPULATED IN THIS WAY?

I for one will NOT bow to their fear. I will NOT vote for the dishonorable one who attempts to GAIN THE PRESIDENCY BY PLAYING US FOR FOOLS THROUGH LIES AND DECEIT.

I will vote for the one who seeks the Presidency VIA THE HIGH ROAD WITH VISION, A COMMAND OF THE ISSUES AND A GENUINE CONCERN FOR ALL PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY.

My family will vote for Barack Obama.

The link below contains a purported list of the top 25 in Congress who got contributions from the folks at Fannie and Freddie. Obama is listed third, after Dodd and Kerry, even though Obama is just a junior Senator. Obama is followed next by Clinton. Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi are on the list as well.

What a fraud and bigot Obama is. Ayers, Dohrn, Wright, ACORN, his anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian stance, and now fraudulent money from both the U.S. and overseas -- including from two Palestinian brothers. This guy shouldn't even be a U.S. senator. What a shameful disgrace his candidacy is.

College kids can be forgiven for being enthusiastically ignorant. Anyone mid-twenties and over has no excuse. Now I understand how Nazi Germany flourished. It always used to puzzle me that people could be so blind. But the fact is, they CHOSE to be blind.

But Bush was a raging success? McCain divorced his disabled wife to marry his heiress mistress, commited ethics violations in the Keating Scandal, and picked an American Idol VP candidate as an exploitive stunt. I used to wonder how some people could defend their candidate no matter what, ignoring all of thier flaws while pointing endlessly to the flaws of the other guy, but now i see; if your party could defend Nixon after Watergate, Regan after the Iran Contra fiasco, and Bush after... well, his entire presidency, you can pretty much defend anyone i guess.

stop beating up on Bush, it is really time to look forward. Bush's war was WRONG, but we cannot cut and run. Media did not ask the right questions to Bush after 9/11, media is not asking Osama the right questions now. Look forward to Palin 2012..... she is so one of us. I can see my daughter in her. By that time Palin will have enough on-the-job training. But Osama will need that now. I will put country in experienced hands with McCain and look forward to 2012.

        • Posted By: mrzoid @ 10/06/2008 3:03:19 PM

Yeah, and your daughter shouldnt be running the country. So one of us? That is the same problem with Bush!! America doesn't need another average shmuck in the white house.

          • Posted By: cobalt6 @ 10/06/2008 3:19:26 PM

mrzoid: you say the average shmuck is not what we need in the White House, that describes Obama perfectly, the average shmuck!

See, than you can relate to him, problem solved. Going to vote for Obama now?

It's the new and change the frauds promise that wear people's discreation down, and Obama has used the American Suck First campaign which trendy lefties, and Liberal believe is novel and progressive.
The news media is also not as honest when reporting B. ACORN Obama (the German press gave Hitler all the benefit of the doubt , too!).
America is a great country and Americans a fantastic people! B. ACORN Obama can tell us about other cultures greater. he's simply not in touch with the USA! He's so much like his buddy, Bill Ayers. Who wanted to bring all the violence all around the world to the streets of the USA. He tryed to lead young Americans in this endeavor.
The young people are TARGETED.. in the USA, or in Germany of the 1930's.

Obama did the right thing by returning the money, but the individual donor was obviously attempting election fraud. The FBI obviously should trace the credit card number and have a talk. Why are they not doing this?

    • Posted By: mrzoid @ 10/06/2008 3:11:39 PM

      Mabey it was Karl Rove?

  • Posted By: jericho4119 @ 10/06/2008 2:03:29 PM

Talk about being responsive to right-wing radio. What is the story here? Illegal donations have been returned - isn't that what is supposed to happen? Why the attempt to smear the online fundraising program, when it is clearly a success?

Why not at least toss a penny to objectivity and do a story on how the McCain/Palin campaign is continuing to raise money - while simultaneously taking money from the taxpayers?

    • Posted By: NObamaNoWay @ 10/06/2008 2:28:29 PM

The illegal contributions *that we know about* have been returned. The issue is with the something up to 58000 that the FEC has questioned, and the millions of other "small" donors that Obama refuses to provide info for (Clinton and McCain voluntarily provided the info on theirs). At least 30 million $ are in question. It is easy enough to generate 10s of thousands of fake names and addresses, each donating $200 or less.

Of course, even if Obama cooperates with FEC, the FEC can't enforce anything. First Obama, and now the Dems, refuse to fill a Republican vacancy which would allow a quorum. Convenient, eh?

      • Posted By: NObamaNoWay @ 10/06/2008 2:31:43 PM

Oh, forgot to mention, McCain/Palin can continue to take contributions as long as they are used for certain limited puposes. They are not doing anything wrong.

        • Posted By: mrzoid @ 10/06/2008 2:53:46 PM

Right, exploiting the loopholes John McCain beat the wardrum against... what a straight talking maverick. Even fighting against himself and his values; that is truly maverickish, huh? huh?

  • Posted By: savage64 @ 10/06/2008 1:40:59 PM

This is really small potatoes. Clearly, the anonymilty of the Internet provides opportunities for abuse, but you seem to be calling into question the ligitimacy of the on-line fund raising from small donors based on a few abuses. Given the huge problems facing the country right now, these are the least of our worries and this article was a waste of Mr. Isikoff's talent.

    • Posted By: popplsa @ 10/06/2008 2:00:46 PM

The examples cited may appear to be small potatoes, but this is barely scratching the surface. Meanwhile, Obama's campaign machine uses these ill gotten contributions to fund their various efforts to sometimes bribe voters to vote for Obama through the help of "community organizations" such as ACORN. Anything to get their man into the oval office. If Obama is elected and the Dems in Congress retains or increases their majority, the country will be fully in the hands of the far left liberals, with liberally biased media to boot. You can bet the first thing Obama will do is enact the Fairness Doctrine to silence opposing voices in conservative talk radio. Then they will systematically and fundamentally change this country in ways that would make our Founding Fathers roll over in their graves. Be very careful how you vote on Nov. 4!

When doesn't the wealthy need tax breaks, when the economy is doing good they need tax breaks to spur the economy and create jobs, and when the economy is doing bad they need tax breaks to spur the economy and create jobs. Hmmm....instead of having the wealthy pay less of a percentage in taxes than the middle class lets just not tax the wealthy at all, it would create more jobs and spur the economy like never before and will create the 750,000 jobs that we lost this year . Even though they have a lower tax rate than the middle class already. Paradox. Wake up America.....you've been bamboozled and led astray by trickle down republican voodoo economics for too long.

    • Posted By: RockRibbedConservative @ 10/06/2008 2:00:10 PM

      Dear small,
During the 60's and 70's the top 1% paid 15% of all income taxes with the top rate of 70%. After Reagan reduce the top rate to 28%, the top 1% paid 30%. After the GW tax cuts with the top rate of 35.5%, they now account for 40%.
      I have 2 questions:
Cite your authority that raisng taxes increase revenue,
and when did a poor person ever give you a job?

  • Posted By: jans884 @ 10/06/2008 10:45:25 AM

Just thinking....Read an article that says that most of the other side of the world will be thrilled to see a change in the USA policies and administrations, do you suppose "(In a similar case earlier this year, the campaign returned $33,000 to two Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip who had bought T shirts in bulk from the campaign's online store. They had listed their address as "Ga.," which the campaign took to mean Georgia rather than Gaza.)", might have been some people trying to make a little extra $$$ by buy and reselling T-Shirts in a store in Palestine. Let's try, just try, to stop assuming a "boogie man" every time we have to connect with someone from another country. That's part of what is wrong now. The attitude that "if you aren't a pure American, then you must be out to do harm". Hey, that's racism, folks.
Just wondering, not everyone who was born in another country is a terrorist or out for "evil".

    • Posted By: RockRibbedConservative @ 10/06/2008 1:54:14 PM

PS the brothers were interviewed by Aaron Klein and said no money was ever returned.

I am one of the so called small contributors. I am a 57-year old Caucasian mother of 4 and grandmother of 2. I have never before contributed to a presidential campaign until this one. I feel very strongly that Barack Obama is what our country needs at this time. I forgot to mention I am a registered Republican from Kansas. I will be voting for Barack Obama for the change our nation deserves. shenlee

  • Posted By: fallon2012 @ 10/06/2008 9:47:16 AM

C'mon, Newsweek, you can dig deeper. There is a lot of foreign money being smuggled into the Obama campaign. The question is not "How much?" The question is "Why?" or better yet "Who?" Someone needs to put names and countries to those credit card numbers.

    • Posted By: AC_thinking @ 10/06/2008 1:27:04 PM

Absolutely! How about also raising the specter or credit card fraud..using stolen cards. When processing real-time online transactions the only info the vendor system checks is if the card number is accurate...they don't match names per se. Again scary.

  • Posted By: Brewster2796 @ 10/06/2008 1:26:30 PM

One also has to question WHY so many foreigners and people from the Middle East would be funneling money into Obama's campaign. It proves when you follow the money that people in the Middle East would rather have Obama. THAT is frightening.

  • Posted By: Brewster2796 @ 10/06/2008 1:22:04 PM

Obama is a crook and has much to hide. He is hiding his past at Harvard, who his friends were, his senior thesis...the list goes on and on. We simply cannot afford to put a man like Obama with a shady past into the highest office of the land in our greatest crisis in 80 years.
Obama is a big spender, one who loves earmarks, and has no idea how to run our economy. He is far too young, too inexperienced, and looks like a schoolby next to Biden.

Amazing how GOP zombies continue to say McCain was naive and was duped into the Keating mess. So, he graduates from the Naval Academy, is a POW for 5 years, and works to the Secretary of the Navy, then is a Congressman, yet he is naive? Sounds more like a lame excuse. You GOP trolls really need to get better ammo. How about the records of the RNC and all the PAC money flowing into their cofferss?

    • Posted By: AC_thinking @ 10/06/2008 1:21:09 PM

McCain was cleared of impropriety as was Senator Glenn. Of the situation, McCain is quoted as saying, "The appearance of it was wrong. It's a wrong appearance when a group of senators appear in a meeting with a group of regulators, because it conveys the impression of undue and improper influence. And it was the wrong thing to do." McCain acknowledges missteps he's made. Obama, the MSM, and Obamaites can't even recognize any mis-leaps Barack makes. Scary.

It is about time Obama's fund raising activities be investigated. Like the article says - tons of people making donations not being properly tracked or vetted...just like Obama! It's very telling that the while McCain complied with requests from watchdog groups and Obama didn't. Whatca hiding?

It has been said that Barack Obama was an organizer with ACORN. On his site Fight the Smears which is designed to ???confront lies with truth??? Obama has the following:
Fact: Barack was never an ACORN community organizer.???
Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.???
Fact: ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Barack ran in 1992.
If this is true then Obama should have no problem explaining this little gem:
Obama started building the base years before. For instance, ACORN noticed him when he was organizing on the far south side of the city with the Developing Communities Project. He was a very good organizer. When he returned from law school, we asked him to help us with a lawsuit to challenge the state of Illinois??? refusal to abide by the National Voting Rights Act, also known as motor voter. Allied only with the state of Mississippi, Illinois had been refusing to allow mass-based voter registration according to the new law. Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar (the name of the Republican governor at the time) and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5000 of them).
Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus, it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for State Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends. And along about early March, we started to see that the African-American community had made its move: when Sen. Obama???s name was mentioned at our Southside Summit meeting with 700 people in attendance from three southside communities, the crowd went crazy. With about a week to go before the election, it was very clear how the African-American community would vote. But would they vote in high enough numbers?
It seemed to us that what Obama needed in the March primary was what we always work to deliver anyway: increased turnout in our ACORN communities.
Obama, why do you continue to lie about who and what you are? Is it because you know this country would not knowingly elect a racist, Socialist/Communist to the White House?
