Comment: How to bring down a democracy: the steps toward totalitarian rule, in the order followed by Hitler and the Nazi Party; SEE IF THEY SOUND FAMILIAR.

    1. Improvise an attack (or take advantage of an attack) on the country
    2. Declare the country under attack by an enemy; real or improvised
    3. Force legislation that limits civil liberties and gathers broad powers unto government
    4. Brand dissenters and peacemakers as unpatriotic and browbeat them into submission
    5. Keep the fear factor high to make the public easier to manage
    6. Institute massive propaganda campaigns using state-controlled no-longer-free media and fear of government retribution
    7. Law enforcement and government personnel and ordinary citizens are used to spy on, control and break dissent.
    8. Institute the equivalent of a national homeland security department, overseen by one person with unlimited powers
    9. Confiscate all firearms from the citizenry
    10. Institute the mass murder and imprisonment of any who resist the new ideology.
    11. Launch pre-emptive strikes into other countries in an attempt to spread the new ideology

Sound familiar? It should, its not only the direct path of Hitlers rise to power, but also parallels the events starting with and following 9/11. President Bush was very familiar with the game plan, as his Grandfather and his Grandfathers father-in-law were supporters of Hitler and Nazism, both before and after the war. (See George Herbert Walker and Prescott Bush and the Union Banking Corporation)

Of course, the Bush Administration has skipped a couple of the items on the list, but theyll get to them if their party is allowed to remain in power; it will be the only way for them to retain control over the citizenry.

Comment: I have ask this question before, at what level will McCain and Palin stoop to? Why don't the two racist just come out and call Obama racial slurrs? Mc Cain will not be able or have hope to repair his standing after this election. Palin can of course flash her legs and get the stupid members of the republican party to follow her. I know that's hard to tell which one those are but there has to be some kind of hope. The republican party is ruined and I'm belong to it, Yes I am a republican voting for OBAMA.

Comment: As a white southern Democrat I recognize racism when I see it. The GOP are digging for any derogatory word to use against Sen. Obama. I grew up in the 50's and there is not much about racism that I have not personally witness. Every effort has been made to keep the black population out of the political process. The Republican ads and comment bring back Jim Crow and poll tax. My grandfather once said, "Any politician who won"t help a poor black man; sure as hell won't help a poor white man."

Comment: FactCheck.Org is owned by the Annenberg group of Chicago! Talk about a conflict of interest! And Obama has been telling people on the trail to check out the site to verify his opponents claims. Funny, every time that he endorsed something, it turns out to be a part of his spin machine! Like he raised objections in the primaries when Indiana required photo I.D. to vote. He Protested that It took away people's right to vote! I
knew then and there that he was up to no good! America, wake up from the MASS HYPNOSIS!

Comment: Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!

Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.

The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."

Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.

Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.

Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.

Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.

It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.

    Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. [What about the role of luckbeing in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time? R. R. Pope}

Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.

Comment: The GOP is grasping at straws. They have nothing substantive against Obama, but boy are they good at making up lies. This is the leading Karl Rove tactic for years, and if America falls for this again we should be ashamed of ourselves. Not to mention the obvious fact that this is all a smokescreen to keep the focus off of the fact that Palin and her Alaska associates are in contempt of court for refusing to testify in the Troopergate hearings. After Nixon and Clinton, Americans are to some extent jaded, but really, would you want a VP who refuses to attend hearings in her own defense, and instructs her employees not to testify? That smells like guilt. It surely doesn't give the impression that she has done no wrong and has nothing to hide.

This year, the GOP offers you an angry old man and a woman who, while personable, is desperately uniformed about national and international issues. Both of them are far right politically. McCain used to be a maverick, but since 2004 he's voted 90% with Bush. McCain's policies are not original or reformist, despite how he's tried to co-opt Obama's popular message of change. Please go to the websites of both of the candidates and read their platforms. Obama's Blueprint for Change has more good ideas than McCain's plan. Compare them yourself. Obama's basic premise is that tax dollars should be spent to make America stronger and to improve the lives and well being of our people. For example, he uses education programs to train a new technology workforce, contributing to energy independence, creating jobs and improving the economy. When you read McCain's plan you will find no over-arching design to get America back on track. Instead you'll find more tax cuts for the wealthy, de-regulation of the health care industry, and a stated intent to overturn Roe v. Wade.

I'm a Republican. Although I embrace some forward-thinking social values, in the past I've rarely voted Democrat. My thinking was that since Republicans grow robust economies, by voting Republican I'd be endorsing a plan that would grow wealth for our nation, and then we'd be able to afford social programs. It was a good strategy for a couple decades, but I have to say that the tenure of W. Bush has changed my mind. Not only is there nothing fiscally responsible about today's GOP, the insidious alignment of the party with religious intolerance has really turned me off.

On the other hand, the intelligent luminous thought of Barack Obama has ignited my patriotism. I want a President who puts America first and can get the economy back on track. In my mind, values voting takes a back burner when we are faced with a meltdown of the economy. It is time for a change, a real change. The Republicans have controlled the Presidency for 28 of the past 40 years, but they have fallen down on the job. The Democrats have a stellar candidate this year, and I am voting for Obama.

All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving. It turns off Independent voters and so basically serves the Dem's interests. I'm sure you are venting, but it's NOT helping us.

Comment: Obama explains his objection to our National Anthem and Flag!!

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the Anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

WHAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president. I, for once, am speechless.

He better take sides..........if he is not on the side of AMERICA he MUST NOT EVEN BE CONSIDERED for the office he is seeking. We do not need a man in office that will not salute the flag. The world knows how to sing, what they need to know is that the USA will defend what that flag stands for.

Comment: If you have to wear a flag pin to prove your patriotism maybe you need to explore other venues . As a VNam Vet I don't wear a flag pin or flag sewed on my Cammo jacket.. I wear this jacket along with a cap with many Army patches including those units that I was stationed with, along with medals I earned or was awarded. I have unit pins, armor pin, infantry pin, CIB pin etc. If the flag pin is the only pin you wear then I believed it is right to doubt your patriotism.

Comment: I have always believed that birds of a feather will always flock together and if you CANNOT trust one of them, you can't trust any of them.

We all select our friends and associates by their character. If we do not agree with their character and how they lead their lives, then we will NOT accept them as our friends. I, personally, would never associate with anyone that was involved in any kind of criminal activities or racial activities, or involved in any kind of demonstrations against the country which I love with all my heart. I have too much self respect and pride to associate with these types of lowlife trash.

But, for some reason, we CANNOT and will NOT hold our President to these same standards and good judgement. It seems that a president who has 'no sex' with a young intern in our Oval Ofiice is beyond scrutiny and is still considered to be a GREAT president. It doesn't matter that his actions destroyed the view of the office of the presidency in the eyes of our friends around the world and destroyed the morals of all of our young people. The character of a president is just not important to the American people any longer.

Promises of 'hope and change' and empty rhetoric has replaced the need of a presidential candidate to have good judgemnet and good character. As long as they are shrewd enough to 'look presidential' and said what the POOR STUPID Americans want to hear, that is all that is important. The American people no longer need evidence, REAL evidence, that a candidate is capable of fulfilling his promises and is capable of protecting and serving the people. Talk is cheap, but the right talk has proven to be all that is required by the American people. Judgement, character, and experience is no longer required.

I have always believed that birds of a feather will always flock together and if you CANNOT trust one of them, you can't trust any of them. The American voter is willing to accept Obama at face value, without thoroughly researching his background. I would like to know how many Americans are willing to send our young men and women into combat overseas to fight terrorists, and, at the same time, are willing to accept a president who has been friends with domestic terrorists for years, and a president who is supported by Hamas and many, many other radical groups and leaders from around the world.

Just keep in mind that Obama would never be accepted in the FBI or CIA, but the American voters would elect him as their president and Commander-in-chief of their brave military men and women!!!! May God bless and have mercy on the souls of all the misguided voters!!!!

Comment: Obama, the one you can trust! The American people are like leeches on the government. They can no longer think for themselves. They can no longer take care of themselves. They need to be bottle fed and have their diapers changed. Obama is their savior, their Messiah. They can no longer fight for their freedoms. They must succumb to the beautiful words of promise and hope from Obama. He will make their lives great and trouble free. He will make us one world with no bounderies. Everyone will be equal. There will never be rich people or poor people again. We will all be middle class. That is where the world is headed and we will be the first to get there. All medical help and medicine will be socialized. The government will lead the people down the rosey path to hell. The people will serve the mighty leader, Obama. He controls all human activities and tells us were and when to go. He will tell us what to drive and when to drive. He will tell us where to set our thermostats in our houses. He will tell us the kind of food we must eat. He will create the perfect society, the perfect human race. We will never want again. He will provide everything we need. If we are without, he will make the neighbors share with us. He will insure that everyone will have something to eat and something to wear. He will be the guiding light to our future. We will all be happy and full of joy because Obama says we are. He will control our attitudes and provide us with hope that he will always make things better for us. Life could not be easier or better. He will look out for us. Put your full trust in him and he will deliver. He is the almighty, the Messiah, and the keeper of the people. We will get on out knees and worship him and the ground he walks on. We will never want anything again because he will make everything readily available to us. He has the answer to all our problems and our shortcomings. He will forgive us for our misdeeds and make us whole again. May our new God have mercy on our souls and bless our new kingdom; Obamanation! Always remember that you will have the Quran to fall back on, to read, and to enjoy! Always keep it near you and always look into the eyes of Obama in the pictures that will be provided to you. The pictures will always remind you who your savior is and to whom you will owe your great life. Teach your children and grandchildren to worship the man in the picure and they will always remain wholesome and happy! He will always show them the path to follow to become a great person like him! They must idolize him if they expect to be blessed. And, be sure to pat yourself on the back for choosing the Messiah and giving your children and grandchildren the security and wellness the Messiah has to offer. Always keep your Quran and his picture next to your bed and close to your heart and you will be happy forever! Brothers and sisters, I love you, and we will be together as one forever and ever!

Comment: McCain is an idiot! If he is elected president, will just become another George Bush Jr. incompetent, deceitful, fraudulent and untrustworthy. Not only that but do we really want to elect another homophobic president? I mean, if we ever plan on making peace in any other country, don't we first have to make peace within our own country? One thing that i have learned in my life is that we should respect what we do not understand, not fear it. And as long as we keep putting homophobics and racists in control of our government how will we ever solve our own countries problem's?

Comment: I write to you today regarding a matter of grave concern and fear - and that is
the tenor and tone of the rallies and public speaking venues of McCain/Palin in
    recent weeks.

In event after event, it appears as if they are actually encouraging hatred and
racism, encouraging a kind of "mob mentality" in the crowds, and it is
frightening. In video after video that I see, the crowds are becoming angry and
ugly, and Mccain/Palin seem to be encouraging this - they certainnly have not done
anything to discourage it - even after one person in a crowd shouts out "kill
    him" referring to Barak Obama.

Palin of course, fails to mention her and her husband's ties to the Alaskan
    Successionist movement.
The kind of projection going on here is worthy of any clinically diagnosed personality
    disorder description.

To myself and my family and friends, this behavior is vile, dangerous, and treasonous.
Their rallies have a "Nuremburg" feel to them - I am very very afraid
of where this will lead, if allowed to continue unchecked.

This is America - but it is rapidly feeling like Germany in the late 1930's.
    I urge
you in the strongest way possible - to please raise awareness about this hate mongering,
because inciting crowds to shout out racial slurs and death threats is vile, dangerous,
and treasonous, and not at all the kind of behavior becoming of candidates for the
    highest offices in the country.

    Comment: McCain-Palin Out of Control
Not only McCain-Palin campaign has become desperate saying anything, but also dangerously inciting anger, hate and divisions. I think the McCain-Palin rallies are getting out of control. ???The implication here is clear. It's foreign sounding. It's Muslim sounding. It's un-American sounding. It's dangerous-sounding. What it is, is race-baiting. And that is what is dangerous. Inciting crowds, encouraging their angry outbursts, McCain supporters shouting "treason" and "terrorist" about Obama at these rallies -- that's dangerous. Earlier in the campaign, McCain denounced this stuff. He strongly denounced it. And today it requires a stronger response, a much stronger denunciation than a campaign-generated paper statement.???

Comment: Enough, Enough,Enough Where are the intelligent people who check facts.
Mr. Obama has done more for the troop than McCain.
McCain voted against the same bill he is accusing Obama of voting against.

McCain voted against Body Armour for our troops.
IAVA is a group of veterans who want you to check your facts.
veterans report card website will show you that Cindy McCain should have had chills down her body over her husband.

Just because McCain was a POW (who spilled his guts against the USA.)
does not mean he has supported our troops as people seem to just assume.

Inciting crowds and HATE is exactly the kind of talk that lead to millions
of my people (Jewish) being lead to gas chambers.

If McCain cannot win by running a clean campaign that does not include HATE
and incite people to call for the assassination of Mr.Obama.

The media must impliment a McCain blackout. If someone would have stopped this type of HATE speech, making people believe that we Jewish people were something to be feared,
maybe my family would be larger.

Decent Americans who really love this country and all that it has stood for, must
be decent enough to say ENOUGH, McCain, ENOUGH HATE, stick to the real campaign issues.

Comment: The democratic party opposes voter id requirements while the GOP supports it. The phony sound bite you hear all the time is that it will disinfranchise voters particularly minority voters who may not be able to afford the id cards. In our state the proposal was to give the ids free of charge and the dems struck it down. This is just a bunch of BULL!!! The real reason they don't want voters to have to have valid id is that they know the illegal voters and the great majority of persons who vote more than one time (ALL FELONIES) vote for democrats. If they suspected or knew it was the the way around it would already be the law of the land period.

Comment: "Not all Democrats agree with Mr. Frank that such policies are off-limits to criticism. Last week Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama said in a statement: 'Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect, I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong.'

"Mr. Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus."

    'Rank snobbery'

Camille Paglia, who supports Sen. Barack Obama, has nothing but scorn for the way the media has treated Sarah Palin.

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses," Miss Paglia writes at www.salon.com.

"The bourgeois conventionalism and rank snobbery of these alleged humanitarians stank up the place. As for Palin's brutally edited interviews with Charlie Gibson and that viper, Katie Couric, don't we all know that the best bits ended up on the cutting-room floor? Something has gone seriously wrong with Democratic ideology, which seems to have become a candied set of holier-than-thou bromides attached like tutti-frutti to a quivering green Jell-O mold of adolescent sentimentality."

You think FDR stopped the depression with his make work government programs? You need a lesson in history and economics! Nearly 100% of economists today agree that his policies actually prolonged the depression and the belief is the recovery would have occurred within 2-3 years if government intervention hadn't occurred. In addition, his polices did not end the depression World War II did!!! We began producng goods and weapons for friendly nations then ourselves when yet another democrat got us into a major war !! Just for a pint of refernce more US soldiers died on Omaha and Utah beaches in several hours on D-Day then have died in Iraq in 5 years. One dead soldier is one to many but democrats have been in power for all major wars and have caused the deaths of nearly 600,000 American soldiers..

Comment: I do not like either candidates health care plans period. Obama's plan keep you r employer coverage - cut costs and force insurance companies to take less money. Provide insurance for those with pre-existing conditions (I can agree with this to some degree) and expand government coverage for those with no insurance. This will drive costs up and if you force doctors and hospitqls to take less money it will mean employee cuts for them, reduced care and in some cases hospitals will close. If you do not have insurance then you need to help pay for it not get it free at other taxpayers expense. I have employer based health.nsurance but it is not free!! It ultimately costs me over $3000.00 out of pocket excluding drug costs and co-pays. .In addition I have to buy insurance for my son who just graduated from college because he is no longer covered under my plan. This costs me an addtional 114 per month plus a $500 deductable on health care, $500. on drugs and 10% of the first 5K. So despite the fact I have an employer provided health care plan I still pay 5K out of pocket for health care.. No one should get it free including tthose on welfaer they must be charged something to help defray costs. Universal government health care will cripple this country resulting in an overall federal, state, local property and sales taxes approaching 80% of income.

Comment: Barack Obama and the politics of envy. Over and over Barack during the Town Hall Meeting debate spouted his politics of envy. He pointed out that Iraq has a 78 billion dollar surplus at the same time that the United States is suffering financial problems. His conclusion or inference that Barack left hanging was that we should steal their money and take the 78 billion dollars or perhaps we should have never wage the war to begin because they are a bunch of ungrateful people who would hoard this money.
Would Barack Obama be more pleased if Iraq emulated their main supporter the United States and ran up huge deficits and became nearly bankrupt.

Would he think that is more representative of a struggling democracy. The fact that Iraq is financially solvent with our help is a testament of the hard work and sacrifice of our troops. Please do not comment and try to draw a negative inference from this success. Please Barack keep your politics of envy confined to local Illinois politics where it works.
Barack Obama???s tax plans similarly focus on the politics of envy. He is so focused and determined that the oil companies do not make one penny too much in profit that Barack Obama dces not care if all of the Southeast periodically experiences gas shortages with closed gas stations and empty gas pumps. The oil companies did not make any profits when there was no gas to sell so Barack Obama must have been jumping with joy. Refinery capacity in the United States has been stretched to its limits for decades. The oil companies would have to be crazy to invest another penny in new refineries or production capacity or even do basic repairs in the United States in light of Barck Obama???s policies to tax what he deems are excess profits and his proposed mandates on alternative energy. Barack Obama???s proposals to raise taxes only on the top five percent of Americans are ridiculous and only pander to the politics of envy. Our economy has been propped up for years by people from around the world investing in the United States. Foreign investors in United States companies also are subject to United States taxes. All of these investors are in the top five percent making more than two hundred and fifty thousand a year and they will be subject to higher taxes. Do you think that foreign investors will continue to make direct investments in the United States when they can go anywhere in the world? Barack Obama will do for the United States what North Korean President Kim has done for North Korea and that is drive all foreign investors out of the country. That is a great idea to help our economy and drive all foreign investors out. Americans can also chose where they invest and they do not have to invest in the United States if taxes become exorbitant.

The republicans freed the slaves, the republicalocksons passed the civil rights act in the 60's under heavy democratic opposition. Comment: Hate always consumes those that perpetrate it and live by it. Obama has been calling for one America while McCain and Palin continue to call for a divided America. I think I have come to realise one thing: the American people sincerely know who serves their interest best. Obama is a reality the likes of hate-mongering and desperate politicians cannot wish away. By Jan. 20, 2009, they will have to live with reality of Barack Obama as their president and commander-in chief. Good luck.

    • Posted By: John Dough @ 10/08/2008 8:29:56 PM

Comment: You claim Mc Cain and Palin want a divided America please cite an example. The Dems constantly use class warfare against the republicans saying the GOP and Bush are for the rich and the oil companies. They constantly claim the tax cuts only helped the rich. Bull____!!! My fedral taxes went down over 5% and my tax return up 1000.00 under Bush's tax cuts for the rich. Well I can tell you I'm not rich but here are some facts from the IRS:
The top 1% wage earners pay 55% of the federal tax burden. In case your wondering that amounts to 1.7 trillion dollars. The top 10% pay 90% of the federal tax burden that is 2.75 trillion dollars. The next 50% pay the remaining 310 billion dollars or 10%. The bottom 40% pay no taxes at all and they get a tax return. These are the REAL FACTS. As for the oil companies, they make 4 1/2 cents out of every dollar worth of oil. This is well below what the average business makes in profit percentage wise. The federal tax per dollar of oil is 15% or 15 cents out of every dollar. The govt. benefits more than the oil companies with none of the risk. Obama is pushing a windfall profit tax on oil companies. This will result in higher prices to make up for the tax. His plan to tax corporations who move jobs overseas at a higher level willl likely result in the corporations moving too!! Both parties need to reduce the size of the governnent tremendously. They then need to reduce the fedral tax to about 10%. Jobs will swarm back here and our economy will soar. The problem is that it would mean an end to all enttitlements except social security and medicaid and medicare. Social Security roles need to be slashed. I know several families that have mutliple ADHD children and hey are getting over $550.00 per child . Drug addicts and alcoholics stay on the roles forever. One year for treatment and they should be off forever until they retire. Social Security was designed to help the disabled and for retirement/supplement. When the program began there was 37 workers for every retiree/reciepient. Toady it is 2 workers to every receipient. It is time to move those who ccan work back into the workforce and help the truly needy elderly and the truly disabled.

Comment: Say what you will, at an Obama rally you will not hear John McCain the person being demonized. Sure, his stands on the issues will be booed, but he will not be subjected to the outrageous and divisive smears like those that McCain and Palin are spewing about Obama and you will never hear his patriotism being questioned. When McCain's name is mentioned in an Obama rally, you will NOT hear a mob crying 'terrorist', and worse, 'kill him!' as has been heard at McCain and Palin rallies.
'For each tree is known by its own fruit.' I respect those honest republicans who simply have a respectful difference of opinion with Obama. Many of them are my neighbors and we get along just fine. But those decent Americans aside, and in contrast to the hope filled positive Obama campaign, we now have a negative hate-mongering 'No Obama.' campaign on the right which draws in religious bigots.like Unholyroller and crew, racists (you know who you are), and rabid McCarthyists left over from the 50's. On Nov.5 we will all still be Americans and will have a new president-elect based on the American institution of majority vote. We can have honest differences of opinion without causing a permanent rift between neighbors if we don't give in to hate.

Many, many people are quick to judge Obama because he is black, which does not affect his mental capacities, however, we are walking on eggshells regarding McCain's age which does affect his mental capacity. Two big example of lack of judgement just within a few weeks (1) Sarah "who is she" Palin aka "Chatty Kathy"; (2) Letting his campaign resort to continual mudslinging on non-related issues. McCain is too old to be President and it is starting to show.

No one denies that the Republican party of old is the party that brought about the emancipation proclamation, but you seem to be devoid of the fact that Blacks (as a whole) have not voted Republican for at least 40 years. The modern day Republican party is nothing like the Republican party that freed the slaves. No one is disputing the history of how slavery came to an end, but to suggest that the same party is active today is, well, stupid.

This "fact" check is dispicable. How did the AP verify that the civilians killed were actually civilians and not Taliban? Also, such reckless mouthing off by Obama reveals what he thinks about the job our military is doing.

I suppose he believes that he could lead them a lot better than McCain can.

    NOT!

Comment: Mike--I could not agree more. At the ripe old age of forty-six, I realized this year why my heart has always said I am a Democrat, even though my head wasn't completely sure of the facts. The Republican foundation seems to be based on an unspoken sense of entitlement--white entitlement, that is. They hide behind their holier than thou values, all the while clinging to their main concerns: their own pocketbooks, and the desperate need for their continued silent battle for white supremacy. As a white, born-again Christian from the Old South, it completely crushed me to have the curtain drawn back to reveal such blatant disingenuity, but I know now that is what it is. They talk the talk, but when it comes to the question of "What would Jesus do?" Their actions speak louder than their words by far. Jesus would care for those who are less fortunate; this is abundantly clear. His concepts are so much simpler than what we've turned them into. It's how the country and the world would best work. Matthew 19:23, Matthew 19:24, Mark 10:25, Luke 16:14, 1 Timothy 6:10 all address the idea of the pursuit of money over everything else and the harm it can bring. It works both ways, not only for the person, but for the nation as well. I am so tired of the dangerous republican rhetoric. It has become comical at this point. Make your conscience clear. DO the right thing. All races matter--we all came from the same place, ultimately.

Comment: Audacity of Hope!! Obama can lead America back n the right track. Obama can do for America what John.F. Kennedy did for America. Look beyond the colour and look at the man. He is an honourable man who does not need to tell lies about his opponent! He will do what he has said he will do and that is to bring peace and stability to America and give back to the middle class what the rich have been taking formany years now under Bush!

Comment: You need a lesson in who pays what percentage of federal income taxes. The richest 1% of the population pay 55% of the federal tax bill.. The top 5% pay over 70%. The top 10% pay 90 % of the bill. The remaining 90% pay 10% of the federal tax bill. If you break that down down 50% pay the last 10% and the lowest 40% of wage earners pay no federal income tax at all but they all receive a tax return.

Comment: Nice article full of fluff and no real substance reaffirming Newsweek???s ga-ga love affair with Barack Obama.

First, I gave up my subscription to Newsweek because of its left wing slant.

Second, most white people are not racist but the fact that 98% of blacks vote Obama tells me that this is about race but only in the black community. I used to think that 90% or more of the black community voted democrat was because they are democrats but the overwhelming vote of 95% blacks for Obama over Clinton proved differently.

Third, and most importantly, Obama has a resume that at best would get him an entry level mid-management job. As a past CEO of 4 smaller companies (no golden parachutes or obscene bonuses), I would look at his resume and not see any concrete evidence that he has ever held a position that demonstrated leadership and sound decision making abilities.

Lastly, it disturbs me that such a large number of people are willing to put a person in the most powerful CEO position in the world with the only proven asset being a golden tongue.

Sorry if this offends you liberal idealists with the rose colored glasses that are waiting for an Elmer Gantry to blindly follow to the promised land.

Comment: I am black and I have always viewed each candidate with respect and have been open-minded about their views and how they'll put America back on the right track. I read your comments and feel you need to open your eyes and see the facts before you.
McCain will only bring doom and more turmoi for the country. He is every bit like Bush!!! America needs peace and stability right now and that is why Obama is my candidate. Not because he's black, but because he doesn't have to sttch the truth to win, he doesn't have to take words out of context to win, he certainly doesn't have to act like a slave owner and throw insults around to win.
I have come to respect Obama and hope he'll be given a chanc e to lead America in the right direction.
Stop being racist and look beyond his colour. See the man for his values and take him for his words because he is a man of honour!
Vote Barack Obama as the next President of the United States of Amerca! God Bless America!!!

Comment: Thank You, the hysterical left is willing to give Obama the Keys to the nucular button with out knowing any thing about Obama's missing years, I do not hane a problem that he is black, I have a problem with is BIO and the fact he is a security risk, his dealing of the past have nothing to do with his color, his past is clouded and murkey, guilt by association is still reason enough to question his character and giving him the keys to all our nations secrets boggels the same mind.

Comment: What are you talking about? you come off sounding like a ranting whatever! Guilty by association? McCain sold weapons to Iran in the 80s!!!! Is he guilty by association too????
Vote for the candidate that will bring peace, stability and prosperity to America and that is Obama! McCain has proved from his words that he will wreck the economy further and many more troops will lose their lives for a war that has no end. There should be a time frame for pull out so our boys can come home to a stronger, well-respected country!
It is time for the Iraqi government to spend their $10,000,000,000 billion that they have in excess and give the American economy a chance to get back on the right track.
McCain cannot and will not deliver. I have seen him talk and believe me r not, he will worsen the trend that Bush has started!!!
Vote Barack Obama so America can get back on the right track. Stop the racism and let him get to the business of building the American back!

Comment: Seems to me McCain is leveraging his days in the H Hilton by running a propoganda campaign of hate only equal to the Vietnamese. I think it reveals a lot about both their souls. He is a puppet of his lobbyists, and she just does what she is told. And this campaign style is similar to the bully at school when finally questioned on his motives he tries to redirect attention elsewhere. McCain/Palin, if you feel you're the right choice, show is with wisdom, not 'betchas', winks, and pitbull strategies. Very childish at best. But again, coming from the party of Red level warnings, phone taps, and WMD. . . what can you expect. Expect more of the same. . .

Comment: The Republicans are desparate and it will get worse. For those who are uncomfortable with a biracial President, one who is both white and black, consider this -- this is not England in the 1800s. We are not voting in a king. We are electing an entire party that represents a way of life. As for me, I will be voting for the party that represents working men and women. I am voting for a party that stands between us and greedy corporate executives. I am voting for a party that will lead us to peace and prosperity. I am voting Democrat.

Comment: In the final analysis, Americans will want a party in office that will lead the United States .to peace and prosperity -- not just for 5% of the population, but for all of us. I believe that the Democratic Party will help strengthen the lower and middle class. And for those white Americans who find a biracial President distasteful -- remember this -- this is not England in the 1800s. We are not electing a king with no checks and balances. This is the United States of America and we are voting for a party and its ideals. As for me -- I am comfortable with the ideals of the party that reprsent working men and women, not greedy corporate America.
