ReligionIsForNoobs, you talk wayyyyy too much and I think it's just to see your name over and over rather than to make any sensible, well-thoughout comments. You are just spewing stupid propoganda that apparently only makes sense to yourself. And by the way, here's your name again so you can get a kick.... ReligionIsForNoobs, and you ought to know, because you are a Noob.

continuing: Many take advantage of our freedoms but too many take it for grated and forget the sacrifices that the founders of our country made and the sacrifices being made now by so many. The best line in the article was from Paul himself: "We've done so well as a country without a king, so I think George made the best decision.". May God bless our nation and may God bless and protect our nation one under GOD!!!

What's with this BS you noobs call "founders"? Who founded this "country"? Who WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS the SELF-INVITED Europeans who came ashore with religious emblems and royal flags with an immediate agenda to setup churches, religious conversions, etc? Who were there BEFORE the Europeans? Or are you so ignorant to only consider a nation a nation when Europeans "discover" it.

One-sidded history is so convenient. Of course the "white man" always were the first to kill first.? Right?

It's always the easist excuse to make for the shortcomings of an inferior race to blame the race on top. It's just human nature I guess.

Interesting article, EXCEPT for the fact that Ancestary.com provided the 'fact'. Ancestary.com informed me that my family lineage dates back to english immigrants coming over from England during the American civil war, YET (this is fact), both of my parents immigrated to the US in 1956 from Hungary.

Guess why the exterior likeness painted on the original sarcophagus of ancient Egyptians is invariably pale skinned and blue eyed?

  • Posted By: kilpot @ 10/08/2008 10:13:03 PM

One cannot be descended from someone who did not have children ... since George Washington didn't have any children of his own, not a single one of these folks is directly descended from him. Descended from his father, yes, but not from him.

Interesting article, except for the fact Ancestry.com dated my ancestary lineage as english ancestors coming over during the American civil war, when in fact both of my parents came over in 1956 from Hungary. Good luck in believing what Ancestary.com said they have found in the person's ancestary lineage.

Lighten up peeps, it was a cool article and if you had direct lineage to George Washington, you'd think it was cool too. Not that I do, but I do know this: The country is about to elect the MOST underqualified, ill-equipped person to ever run for president. 80% of the people reading this would be better prepared than this con man that is about to pull off the biggest con in history. I can't believe this is actually happening. You have got to be kidding. WAKE UP AMERICA, he is the most liberal presidential candidate of all time, hands down. That is not America, thats Hollywood. Please, please, please spread the word before its too late. I'm not a huge McCain fan, but come on, we HAVE TO keep the socialist out of office. He's done nothing, he's one successful novel away from running pyramid schemes through "the community".

Fredsr22 do you know what a slippery slope or a false dichotomy is? You may want to find out.

Thnx man, I'm glad that you know what we would all think!!

      • Posted By: Fredsr22 @ 10/08/2008 10:08:54 PM

I'm sorry, some people might think it would be cool to have direct lineage to George Washington Carver. I would too, heck anybody famous would be cool. That was my point, simpleton.

Really Kurt Soller should get an award for writing pointless articles. Click his name and you'll see about 20 articles that attempt to answer questions that no one could possibly ever give a crap about. Kurt you do for writing what Taco Bell does for Mexican food or Vanilla Ice does for Hip-Hop, get my point? Editor do your payroll Dept. a favor & send this loser to the unempoyment line!

BTW, thankfully this Ernest Borgnine lookalike isn't our king!

  • Posted By: adelrune @ 10/08/2008 10:00:06 PM

Firt let me remind you there is a word for relinquishing the throne, it's abdicate. It's also happened in almost every monarchy.. Next I would like to point out how riduclous this article is. Not only does it insult every reader and even half educated person that might even hear about this article it was a complete waste of time and resources to even consider doing such a nonsense piece. I find it amazing that there was enough people in positions of responsibility within your staff that are totally without a clue as to the needs and desires of your readers to actually, not just give the go ahead but to print this foolish garbage.

As for every person who wrote in and found something racist with this foolish fantasy. You are the problem in genuinly getting past racial differences, simply by trying to find something racist in common stupidity.

This is a great historical article and very enjoyable information about our great country for which I gave 28 years of my life preserving those liberties that our great founder was so wise to want to preserve. I am very impressed by the attitude expressed by most members of the family and showing that they take pride in the heritage that their ancestor gave us - the freedom to choose and liberty that we enjoy but very few appreciate.

And thankfully stormtroopers are not kicking in your door slaughtering your family, kidnapping you to torture you probably just for funand more than likely kill you for just speaking ill of the government. Isn't it nice to live in the beacon of freedom?

Sorry this comment was for Noobs

"perhaps the only man in history who turned down the position of monarch"
What do you mean "pehaps"? A simple google-search will yield plenty of people who have given up positions as monarchs. Bad research, Newsweek! What about Edward VIII who abdicated from the British throne to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson?

      Another revisionist stab at History?

      • Posted By: jdubyabates @ 10/08/2008 3:18:59 PM

This is certainly a dumb article and a dumb series of responses overall. It does point up a couple of things about "descent", however. America's myth of constant upward mobility is just that, a myth. The descendants of the founders are not invariably among the movers and shakers of today, nor should they be. We fought against an aristocratic government in our revolution, and those among us whose ancestors were of the ruling class in that period (and there are thousands of us, some perhaps not even aware of it) have quietly sunk into often happy obscurity. True, Washington did have some royal blood, but so do many people today descended from colonial governors, grant-holders, etc. We just don't go around letting Newsweek interview us about it.

        • Posted By: moondoggy @ 10/08/2008 4:28:44 PM

"Happy obscurity"? Would you honestly want to live in "happy obscurity" if you had the option of being a royal or an aristocrat? Would you not want to have power, wealth, financial security, and importance? To be a mover or shaker? You would rather live a humdrum, boring nine-to-five existence? Or worse, sleep uneasy everynight because you might get laid off or lose your house? If you would say yes to any of the above questions, you must be a real rube.

          • Posted By: soulchild74 @ 10/08/2008 9:56:23 PM

You fail to mention Moondoggy that historically most of these bourgeois socialite types often lose everything, often in the most violent of ways!

Isn't it sad that the United States claims to be the "beacon of freedom" and "land of the free" and most people have bought into it....when in fact it has been founded on genocide, rape, enslavement, colonialism, imperialism, and conquest of the Native Americans...the people who were one of the first victims of this egotistical European idea of "Manifest Destiny" and "God's Chosen". Founding Fathers? How bout Thieves?

  • Posted By: SemperRick @ 10/08/2008 9:43:40 PM

Geez some of you are way too critical

  • Posted By: la femme wonkita @ 10/08/2008 9:07:38 PM

The article repeatedly states that these folks are "descendants" or "direct descendants" of George Washington but also states that "Washington himself didn't have any children ... Washington was childless" That means he HAD NO DESCENDANTS!! He may have had heirs, but definitely not descendants.

    • Posted By: CraigBaby @ 10/08/2008 9:42:33 PM

People, please re-read the article and pay attention to the clues within. The researcher was using two monitors, or in other words, seeing double. In addition, she was singing the words to a song by Queen. Haven't you sung a song of Queen's while seeing double. Hmm, this mystery about this story is solved. Drink up.

  • Posted By: SemperRick @ 10/08/2008 9:42:23 PM

His Descendants were his brothers and sisters that George had or his father.

  • Posted By: mmagnusson @ 10/08/2008 9:40:18 PM

No one should attempt to surmise who would be king today following the Washington bloodline. Had George Washington ascended to the throne, he would have caused a chain of events that might have led to Paul not even being born; or Geroge not leaving an heir at all. We do not have the capability of tracking every what if that would lead us to where we might be today because none of those what ifs ever happened. I do not understand why people waste their efforts in bringing this type rubbish to the main pages of the likes of MSN. You can't base an end result on a single difference in historic events when the rest of history remains unchanged in this hypothetical world trying to be answered. Ridiculous.
