This is an absurd article, which has absolutely no relevance to any part of American history. The number of possibilities and probabilities that could and would have altered any such part of a monarchy in America makes this article moot. Please don't write about a bunch of what ifs and what could have been, it detracts from your credibility and is a waste of anybodies sensibilities.

Thank you, that was basically the point I was trying to make. The moron who wrote this should be fired and forced to writ a letter of apology to his parents or whomever paid his tuition to pursue writing in journalism.. Hopefully this moron doesn't have any decendants.

Remember that this land was STOLEN from the First Americans - indigenous people who lived throughout the continent. This is a ridiculous claim. American "history" is always told through the eyes of the white man who brought diseases that killed millions and millions of people. The only people who can say they have maintained a long lineage that surpasses all the white Americans living in this country today are the Indigenous people of this land.

I guess it just slipped your mind that the Honorable John Hanson. born on the 14th of April 1715 and died November 22nd 1783, was in fact our first President and left behind a great lineage. John Hanson delivered official thanks to George Washington for his victory at Yorktown, he commended General Lafayette and thanked the French. John Hanson passed legislation for the Bank of North America, he also established the United States Mint and if that was not enought he established the Presidential seal, still used today!

Funny thing about the American people is that they don't even realize they are actually living in a monarchy. Only naive people would believe that their "votes" really mean something when in fact the elections are but a stage for pre-selected puppets to "choose" from. Don't you people ever stop and wonder as to why these presidents, candidates and famous people are always related and have royal ancestry? WAKE UP.

Had George Washington accepted a monarchy there would have been another rebellion and we would surely have abandoned the unnecessary and unrighteous form of government. It is nothing short of arrogant and ignorant to think of Washington as anything other than what he was; he certainly did not.. We abandoned titles and nobility for a very good reason; there is only one nobility and one Lord.

The U.S. is a disguised monarchy anyways, with most of its past and present presidents, and candidates, politicians, media owners, and bankers being somehow related to each other and being a descendant of royal blood. Palin is related to Princess Di and Roosevelt, Bush, Kerry, and Hefner are related to Prince Charles and Tony Blair, Obama relatedto Brad Pitt who is related to Cheney who is a distant cousin of Bush...

The article repeatedly states that these folks are "descendants" or "direct descendants" of George Washington but also states that "Washington himself didn't have any children ... Washington was childless" That means he HAD NO DESCENDANTS!!
He may have had heirs, but definitely not descendants. So it's a good thing he did not claim kingship, or we might have been torn apart by a war of succession.

There are many who turned down the role of monarch. Sulla, Scipio and many others who sought to preserve the Roman Republic to name a few. Julius Cesar was slain because Marcus Brutus and others did not believe that his renunciation was genuine. Augustus, the first person now called "emperor" refused all titles except "Consul" a recognized office, "Pontifex Maximus" which went with the consular office and carried religious duties (it means head bridge builder and Rome was a city of hills and bridges) and Princeps which means "first citizen". He permitted no one to address him otherwise. Washington followed the example of the legendary Cincinnatus in laying aside military office to return to private life. Those men whose ancestors served in the Army of the Revolution are the Sons of Cincinnatus, a group formed by Washington who was conscious of the precedent.

Thank yor for fleshing out my response. I usually am too longwinded when I utilize hisory for modern comparisons. Your response, however, was both well-though out and succinct!

Actually Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus (519 BC ??? 430 BC?) was the first relinquish dictitorial power. And he was the inspiration for George Washington. He was given dictitorial powers to defeat the Aequi in 460BC. After defeating them he returned power to the Senate after only 16 days as dictator. Lord Byron in his Ode to Napoleon, who often complained that people expected him to be like Washington and step down as Emperor, wrote the following:
    Yes???One???the first???the last???the best???
    The Cincinnatus of the West,
    Whom Envy dared not hate,
    Bequeathed the name of Washington,
To make man blush there was but one!
George Washington was elected the first President General of the Society of the Cincinnati. He served from December 1783, until his death in 1799. The second President General was Alexander Hamilton. Its members included 23 signers of the Constitution. Their purpose was to ensure the preservation of Constitutional Freedom.

It is amazing that in 21st century America that there seems to be a romanticized fantasy of people who seem to want to be ruled by another human being. This explains alot during such an interesting political atmosphere of the last few decades. Alot of people on the political right seem to secrectly (or maybe not so secretly) want a return to the feudal system. The fact that someone would take the time & effort to devote intellectual resources on such a non-sensical finding is amazing.
