Today King George II sits upon the throne... The Congress and President have become nearly hereditary by default, as wealth and elitism become the essential crown of royalty today.

The Bush's, Roosevelt's, Clinton's...Gore's, Brown's(Ca.), etc all have passed on their heritage to their progeny. We now see an increasing centralization of wealth and power in the hands of a few families in America. The result is an ever increasing elitism in our social order, and a return to a form of fuedal state.

Fuedal lords appear on the horizon as royalty by another name... looms ever ready to take the reigns of governance over... America. Let us be vigilant and every ready too participate in our democracy. Party politic's feeds the flames of the elite, who control the political process... establishing the princes of the kingdom.

It would do us all good too remember the age old adage, 'for evil to prevail good men need only to do nothing'. It is past time that the average American reassert their enfluence in politics; afirming the heritage of our forefathers... liberty and justice for all... to our progeny. Be forewarned if one is unwilling to participate in nothing, he will certainly receive nothing or worse in return.

Register vote and more importantly participate in the political process... engage the party leadership, attend meetings of local and regional parties and government. Make your voice herd clearly and assert your God given voice for good in government. Do as George Washington did, pledge your life, liberty and fortune to good governance; for without personal sacrifice and participation one shall surely find their liberty taken from them... too, serve others. Government OF the People... for the people BY THE PEOPLE.

Well said, grannyyank. How all the comments here about all the Republicrats have their relevancy to the story is beyond me. And as you said, the article clearly says how it was funded, and YES PEOPLE they also know he had no blood children...can someone please say, "lighten up"?

Wow! People sure get upset over the little things. I think the research was neat- just something fun to do. As for the comment about the research; it says right in the article that the company Ancestry.com did it with one of their own employees; nothing was done by the government. It is true that Edward VIII turned down the throne for love, so yes George Washington was not the ONLY one to refuse to be monarch, but he is the ONLY leader to win a revolution and chose not to be king or dictator. Bottom line- relax people- it was just done for fun and interest. As a hobby genealogist, I found it quite interesting to see especially since he had no children. Paul isn't thinking "Oh, I wish things had been different so I could be king!" It was clear he knew it was just for fun. Always remember, the People of the USA are ultimately the government of the US and we wouldn't stand for it (normally). If you want to be upset; be really upset with all the citizens of our great country who are too apathetic to vote or work for the better of our country. We are quickly falling into the pattern of other countries that failed and were destroyed.

There is only one King of our great country - Jesus Christ. To accknowledge or even suggest that another should be or could be king is absurd and blasphamey. (Matthew chapter 5 verse 3 shows us the "Kingdom of Heaven" as well as chapter 6 verse 10 "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven") I encourage anyone wanting help making Jesus King over your life so you too may recieve his blessings to read his book The Bible. Only there can you discover the real truth that has existed for over 10 thousand years. Wisdom yearns for proof of its beliefs, while a fool is happier without truth. The truth is that no human could ever ge a good king. We are too easily corrupted by power and greed and fear to make truely great kings. Jesus was a man for sure but he was also God. He is my King over my life and He has always supported me and protected me. May God Bless you.

Just one problem. George Washington never had any children. Martha Washington had four children from a previous marriage and only one or two had their own children. There is no blood lineage from George Washington.

To Suuloukku: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT INFORMATION! I just happen to have an appointment scheduled with an endodonist next week. My grandmother suffered with Alzheimer's until her death.
Now, instead of berating myself for continuing to read all the hateful insults people were throwing, I feel that I have come away with some useful information. I've spent far too much time this morning feeling angry and ashamed of my SPECIES. The last snappy comeback I wanted to throw at them was...Where is Gort and Klaatu when I need them? Don't stress over it folks, it's probably just early onset Alzheimer's!

The only comment I have is: I hope our tax dollars did not pay for this research. We could save millions of dollars if just one of the brilliant persons we elect would just take the budget page of grants on research projects that are just so stupid. There are so many movements about so many things, why has no one said scratch off all the grants for research and lets start fresh. Who really wants to know how long a fly lives, has sex, etc. Or so many of the other listed research projects are given grants that people do a months work on and get $100,000 to turn in one white paper on it. Then the Ear Marks per State Officials. The Bridge to No where in Alaska, millions of dollars and no one except Sarah P. stopped it. Look into Ear Marks folks and we could have our nation back on track. And foolishly sprent research grants. Yes it is time to look over what we crab about folks. If you do not like the way our election officials can give themselves raises, can retire after 1 term and live on 100% or their salary for the rest of their lives -DO SOMETHING - DO SOMETHING NOW. Who could teach us how to do it - Ralph Nader. No I am not a Nader person but I can recognize a man who if we asked would do everything he could to show us how.

"the only man in history who turned down the position of monarch." I might not expect younger people nowadays to remember this, since history is so un-cool to learn...but I'dexpect the media to be better versed at what they put in their articles. Anybody remember Edward VIII, who later became the Duke of Windsor? He turned down the throne - for love...

And the chance of America having a king is really small...Americans believed in being equal and passionately refused the idea of having kings, queens, dukes, etc.

What is the source for Paul's wife's alzheimers? I wonder if she has or has had amalgam [mercury] fillings or amalgam-packed root canal(s). If the anwer is yes then maybe she could go to an IAOMT [International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology] certified dental professional that employs the proper safeguards and techniques to replace the offending fillings with biocompatible material and/or remove the affected tooth/teeth (in case of amalgam-packed root canal). My grandmother had healthy teeth but horrible dental care that included amalgam fillings and she ended up loosing all her teeth. She developed dementia and died a few years later. Her husband, who cared for her, is still alive and healthy and has never had an amalgam filling placed in his mouth. Andrew Hall Cutler has written books about amalgam illness, namely Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment and Hair Test Interpretation: Finding Hidden Toxicities, both of which have helped me immensely. I strongly urge anyone that has or has had amalgam fillings placed in her/his teeth to contact an IAOMT dental professional and get a hold of the aforementioned books by Andrew Hall Cutler. Be well!

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! I just happen to have an appointment with an endodonist next week. I will be taking your advice. My grandmother had Alzheimers, too. You know, until I read your post, I was berating myself because I was still reading these hateful things people felt and said to one another. Thank you for contributing something helpful.
As for those of you so filled with hate...Where is Gort and Klaatu when I need them?

Direct descent is direct lineage from an individual. Since George and Martha Washington had no children of their own, his direct line ceased with his death on Dec. 14, 1799. Mrs. Washington had children by her previous marriage and they were raised by the Washington's

    Dear Newsweek,

A direct descendant implies direct lineage from an individual. Since George and Martha Washingto had no children of their own, his direct line ceased with his death on Dec. 14, 1799. Mrs Washington had children by her previous marriage and her children were and grandchildren were raised by the Washingtons

George Washington had no biological children so Paul Emery Washington is not a direct descendant of George.

  • Posted By: Ohio08 @ 10/11/2008 8:34:06 AM

    Dear Newsweek,

I believe that you got the brother's of President Washington wrong--The eldest was Lawrence, then AugustineJr., then George the president, then Samuel. So, I think that Mr. Paul Emery Washington is descended from Lawrence??

    Once upon a time, King Paul travelled through the States, looking for a princess he could lead to the altar and throne. And he came far in the North-West, where he saw a beautiful lady, with dark brown hair, funny glasses, a sixpack under her arms and fell in love with her. He asked her, if she would marry him. - and listen, my fellow Americans, she did! - King Paul & Queen Sarah lived long and had much fun in "Aläska!" ;-) e;
