Comment: Lakota Woman, blacks aren't the only ones who have ever been mistreated. everyone has been mistreated at some point. let's get off the soapbox about mistreatment of blacks already. so bitter and resentful. makes you scared to elect obama because he may have this sense of entitlement like so many blacks. i'm sick of hearing about it. get over it already. if you want to be treated equally, start acting like it. stop using the past as an excuse to whine and sit back and expect special treatment!!!!!!!!!

I have never 'owned' anyone, neither have any of my ancestors. we came from France some generations ago. I am sick of the idea that black people think they are entitled to something because the white man dragged them here in chains. If you think you are entited to something, let me just buy you a own way ticket back to where ever you think you came from. I am an american, nothing more, nothing less. If Mr. Obama wins this election, I will support him as the President of this country, nothing more, nothing less.

Hi, I am also half black and half cherokee, very proud of both too. Malene, I do not feel that I deserve special treatment, just a little respect. I am a divorced mother of two with one job and holding my own.
I am also aware the mistreatment of Native Americans.

    • Posted By: Lakota Woman @ 10/09/2008 1:21:27 AM

Hear hear!! Yes, you are right! Native American peoples were the first to be mistreated in this country. I can get on my soapbox and have more right to talk about his issue since you have not "WALKED A MILE IN MY MOCCASINS"!!!

the truth is hard to swallow. it's always easier to blame others instead of being accountable

Comment: excuses excuses excuses. you all know it's true. please let me give you the addresses to these places and I'll give you pictures of the same places 15 years ago. PATHETIC. doesn't take money to get off your butt and pick up your yard, or park your car in your driveway instead of at your front door. or take refridgerator to the dump instead of leaving it in front yard with grass growing up around it. again, ACCOUNTABILITY. stop crying poor me and get off your butts and do something to make a difference instead of sitting back with your hands held out. if your habits are so bad and your so lazy that you can't keep up your house and yard, i'm sure that crosses into your work habits and it's probably impossible to keep a job because you are lazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

George Washington isn't even close to being the only man in history who turned down the title of monarch.
In England, in the relatively recent past, King Edward VIII turned down the role not just of monarch, but of emperor. In the seventeenth century Oliver Cromwell turned down requests from Parliament that he claim the English crown. There are many other examples. Before commenting on historical matters, I would suggest that you study them.

My God do you people still want to carry this hate on and on into this 21st centry when will you quit hiating and live. you speaking of carring about people yet you hate and make up your lies. How many of you have ever tried to get to know a Black person instead of crossing the streets and praying that you can make it home safe without them seeing you. It is so heart rending to know so many of you have so much hate in your heart for a people you don't even know anything about. I am just another woman in this land that just happen to be half Indian and half Black and I am very proud of both. Races. We even have some whites in our family. Is there any kindness in any of your hearts. Another woman

It's time to start looking past race because the US is considered the country that is a MELTING POT...not only of race & culture, but also of ideas...we, all being AMERICAN need to start standing together and not be divided just because of color of skin...the whole reason the Pilgrims came to America anyway was to escape what? Persecution. I understand where you are coming from...but you need to look at the world through the people's eyes who have dealt with harsh racisim...you don't know if you haven't been subjected to it...

    • Posted By: joe 6 pack @ 10/09/2008 1:35:35 AM

I have been subjected to it. I have been around the world and seen the hate of a white people. So get off your own color issues.

If George Washington would have accepted the offer, the future of his family would have been entirely different. Thus, Paul would not have been born. The whole changing of the space time thing. Question. Does Paul know how to make a Martha Washington Cake?

true story - so typical for the average american town. growing up, i lived in a very average all american small town. very low crime rate, you could leave your doors open at night and go to bed and feel safe. the houses in my neighborhood were just your average houses, not big, but everyone took pride in their house and their yard and their neighborhood. i married and left. i came home recently and drove through my old neighborhood. it absolutely broke my heart. all the houses were trashed, yards were grown up like jungles, flourescent shutters and paint on houses, cars parked all along the streets and in the yards!!!!! i even saw a few refridgerators in some front yards. absolutely pathetic. it was a heartbreaking transformation of such a beautiful place to live. sad to say, it is in every neighborhood where black have moved in. there is no excuse for it. and don't cry that they are broke and don't have money to fix up house. it doesn't take money to get off your butt and clean your house and yard and take some pride in something. this is typical in so many places. what's the excuse???????

    A) There is a Black History Month not because of slavery, but in spite of slavery and the adversity African American's have suffered through out our country's history . We celebrate/observed Black History Month to honor the long list of African American men and women who have made positive contributions to the 'American Way' whether it be scientific, artistic or political/civil progress.
    B) Bill Washington would not be King today for the simple idea of keeping Royal Blood pure! If Georgia Washington became king, his decisions and the decisions of this descendants would have kept the Bloodline in the aristocracy. It would also have to depend if there would be any royal upheaval, and new families taking the thrown. This story was silly... but good for Bill Washington.

I am a white man, married to an asian women. I fail to see where race (black and white) ever entered the picture of "if Washington was king" in this whole argument. Too many people are stuck on their race and not on humanity as a whole. It is time to get over it!

I agree. Blame Saul Alinsky and his followers (educated, some by Obama, to follow his philosophy and tactics) to do whatever it takes to justify that what they do equates the ENDS JUSTIFYING THE MEANS. Google Saul Alinksy (Obama stuided under his methodology in regards to community organizing and the tactics that includes the use of pulling the race card, use of white guilt, fraud and intimidation, ridicule, etc. - Google ACORN and Obama and you will see how he not only learned Alinskys tactics, but taught them and got their support (ACORN) via his run over the years for Illinois senator and now up thru his race to the White House.

Malene...have you ever studied history? Just wondering because...there is a black history month BECAUSE of the maltreatment of black people in the US most recent history. As far as I'm concerned EVERY DAY is WHITE HISTORY month...why in the world would you want to proclaim a day set aside for white folk? That's simply ludicrous!

Everyday is white history month? Are you serious? Have you seen who the presidential candidates are? Wake up. The minority in this country is the christian white male.

      • Posted By: Lakota Woman @ 10/09/2008 1:14:33 AM

Give me a break...for crying out loud...the white male is not an minority...the caucasian race is still the majority in this country regardless of what country each person was originally from...just because a black man is the Democratic nominee for President of the US doesn't mean white people have all of a sudden become a minority! GEEZ....

This is what I call a SET UP article. Let me explain. This article is not a filler (given at first that might be what people might think until a more article of substance came along) . It is really a subtle (although . . . not really ) way for Newsweek to continue to STIR UP racial tensions via their articles . . . specially now that Obamas background of all of his radical, liberal, anti-american friends, felons, terrorists, etc. are being discussed to a fuller degree now as we near the GE. THAT is the purpose of this TRANSPARENT article for which they knew the African Americans would pounce on about slavery, etc. Look for more race-conscious articles moving forward as Obama gets vetted about his FRIENDS by some of the press and in GOP ads to show him as the democratic nominee (with lack of character and judgment and experience and accomplishments) for which he really represents. If the MainStreamMedia will not vet Obama to the degree that all candidates are in our history, I say all for one to allow others, including the opposing VP elect (Sarah Palin) to talk about his ongoing (chosen) associations to engage with over the past 20+ years to get him where he is today.

OK, mabye I am tired, or mabye I have had 1 to many beers, even though I have only had one, but where in the world did you come up with this? This is simply a historical ?what if? How does this enter into the race (black and white) issue? It does nothing to stir up racial tension, it simply is fodder for what if. You are very off the mark on your percieved intention of this article. Mabye you are tired or have had to much beer.

I guess I can turn it around to put it on you and others. . . . have you looked at the blog responses?

    • Posted By: rmworthem1 @ 10/09/2008 1:01:58 AM

Hey bud, what in the heck have you been smoking? Did you even read the article? It did not even say anything about race. So get off of the race ticket.

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 10/09/2008 1:04:45 AM

Doesnt have to. The proof is in the pudding based on the blogger responses in here.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 10/09/2008 1:07:06 AM

And yes. I DID read the article first. You do know about baiting . . . no?

  • Posted By: kmclerey @ 10/09/2008 1:04:49 AM

I think it is important to address how america is going to move forward, if a black man is elected president. What will become of minority issues and the identified divide and structure in place to promote non-whites.

  • Posted By: Rserp1 @ 10/09/2008 12:57:13 AM

If Washington had no kids and turned down the Monarcy then the next in line should have been given the oppertunity to be king. That would have been John Adams and his kids and so on. The whole thing is stupid to begin with. I have allready declared myself King of America. Just because people are so stupid.

    • Posted By: rmworthem1 @ 10/09/2008 1:00:19 AM

He said no to monarchy BEFORE he became president. But if he had said yes then we would have a king and queen and since no children his brother would have been a king after the death of George.

If Obama is elected, will America do away with afirmative action? Will businesses still get a tax credit for hiring blacks? Will Obama sweep black america into shape, or will black america rise up and become lazier than ever? God save america - help GOP?? Pleeze help!

  • Posted By: kmclerey @ 10/09/2008 12:57:04 AM

If Obama gets elected, will America abolish the whole afirmative action skit? Will companies no longer get tax breaks since we have a black president, therefore showing that anyone can be president? Is Obama going to show young blacks what they can become, or is black America going to go on holiday and become rebellious in their day? God save America Pleeze - GOP!

Special treatment to blacks? That has to be the most silly argument I've ever heard. Stop it! First of all, how do you have a 'white' heritage month...come on...germans, irish, french, spanish,...italian? Stop! If it does anything at all, it educates a nation run by and whos history is written by white men. I am a native american woman and we were recognized in our nations as equals and the history of white people is all over me, all over everyone who isn't white on a daily basis. When we start respecting all people and don't feel threatened by our differences, the world will be a better place.

  • Posted By: malene @ 10/09/2008 12:51:58 AM

Comment: are you denying that fact that there is special treatment that is extended to blacks that aren't extended to whites? that there is not a black history month or a black heritage celebration in december? just ask yourself, would there be any fallout or riots if starting in 2009, there was a white history month, or there was a special time allocated during the month of november for white heritage????

There is one significant problem with this article. First, a person who is sterile, as George Washington was, has no direct descendants. No children, no descendants. It is a simple rule. What George does have are collateral descendants, that is, folks alive today who are descended from close relatives. I would have expected a little tighter and more accurate article from a source generally consider reputable. Don't your editors edit?

Dear Malene i know you have access to a computer. so before you make an uneducated comment could please do a search of what you are commenting about so you don't sound so ignorant. At least make comments after you have read something about things. Because you have removed all doubt . you should reamin quite until you research things
