How can a man who had no children have 8,000 descendants living today? I am neither my uncle's desdendant nor my nephew's ancestor. Obviously a genealogist didn't write this piece.

Actually George Washington was not childless. One of his children was West Ford who founded the area called Gum Springs in Alexandria with land he inherited from his father through an uncle. Of course back then no upstanding gentelman would claim an out-of-wedlock child. George Washington was a rarity although he could not give West his name he obviously cared deeply for his son. http://www.ancestry.com/learn/library/article.aspx?article=4258

George Washington was childless --- please check your facts. He had no children with Martha Washington in all the years of their married lives. She never once became pregnant while married to him. She was a widow when they married with two children from her previous marriage, proving that she was not sterile. All reputable historians agree that Washington was more than likely sterile.

I agree. We all are human, who cares what color our skin is? Every race has done horrible things in it's past. And the other 11 months aren't "white history" months. They're just months. I find it rather racist to have an entire month devoted to a particular race. If we truly want to solve race problems, stop focusing on Black History as separate from the rest of human history, stop affirmative action, stop everything that sets a particular racial group out from another. And as for reparations, I want some, too. Chances are, members of my family were once debt slaves to another family, just as many people of European decent are. The African tribes that sold the slave traders their tribal enemies are the people you should really go after if you want reparations. But, if you really want the American government to give you something, how about forty acres and a mule- just as freed black slaves were promised by the Freedman's Bureau after the Civil War.

Is it possible Barak Obama might be elected this November and become the 1st Communist Party Chairman of the Washington DC Polituburo??

    • Posted By: soulchild74 @ 10/09/2008 12:09:06 AM

Do you even know what a communist is? Being on the liberal side of the aisle does not make someone a communist. Yes, liberalism, socialism, communism ARE left wing political philosophies. On the other hand Libertarianism, Conservativism & Fascism are right wing political philosophies. They are all very different. Political theorists just categorize them in this manner primarily out of parlimentary tradition of the status quo advocates represent the right while social change advocates represent the left.

You are all so funny---and retarded! Very entertaining--thanks!

Thank God that president George Washington was our president. Thank God that George Washington was not power hungry, but instead just wanted and believed in individualizism. Thank God that President George Washington was a Mason(Freemason) which has Very Much to do with why George Washington did not Believe or Choose Monarch. Thank God that if George Washington was alive and well today, that he was a fellow Mason, and he would not have minded me at all Thanking God that George Washington was not power hungry and did not choose Monarch. THANK GOD FOR THE USA AND FOR GEORGE WASHINGTON!
ATTN WASHINGTON FAMILY TREE*****have you found how George used to ride in his horse and buggy for over 40 miles every Thursday to attend his Mason meetings?

    • Posted By: Cooleman @ 10/09/2008 12:01:10 AM

That organization that Mr. Washington was a part of was spearheaded in England. He just brought the same traditions over here. We still have Monarchies in the US. Ever heard of the Bush Dynasty? Most of these people share the same bloodline.

  • Posted By: Cooleman @ 10/08/2008 11:53:55 PM

Well, well, well. Now we know where to start w/reparations. Mr. George made alot of money on the backs of Africans, as did alot of Caucasians in his day. As a matter of fact, the US made billions on the free slave labor trade, but won't entertain reparations. No, I am not looking for a handout. I am a blessed young man well able to take care of himself, thank God, and if I was hungry, I wouldn't have to tell any of youall. But at least flood some of that money into to inner city schools where alot of African American kids don't have adequate programs and falling buildings. At least make it an environment conducive to them becoming successful as well, would be the least they could do. I know, I know, sending billions of dollars to Iraq is more important. But for who is what would blow your socks off.

"Comment: my 7 year old asked me why there is a black history month and not a white history month. can anyone help me answer that for him?"

Because that would not be "politically correct" in the current Liberal, serve the welfare, to hell with the hard working people country we live in". God Help the USA as we continue to fall down a path of destruction via the Liberal system.

Because even I, as a white person with a history degree, understand that most history is white history just as most holidays with people associated with them are white (Presidents Day honoring Washington and Lincoln, and Columbus Day), so it would be rather redundant to have White History Month when every month is White History Month. So rather than just Black History Month, if we are going to be fair, especially to the race who will soon be the majority in this country, we need to add an official Spanish/Mexican History Month, and then just keep going and add an Asian History Month. The point is, what does it matter if there is a Black History Month, when White history is still being taught every day in school. Let all people be proud of who they are, but most importantly we should be proud to be human beings and citizens of this great country. With all of it faults and flaws, I would still rather live here than anywhere else on earth.

Agreed.. Black Americans are not able to trace their ethnic roots as well as the other races in this country.. if at all.. it is a positive way for Blacks to be able to connect with their ancestors like the rest of the people of this country

      • Posted By: soulchild74 @ 10/08/2008 11:50:18 PM

Well, because basically the other 11 months are white history month! I hope that helps you out!
        PEACE

I'm a little confuesd as to why female descendents are skipped over? At one point the article mentions that if a man only had a daughter, the crown would jump to another side of the family. I know in most countries women cannot inherit the crown but in England they can. It seems most likely that we (Americans) would be more inclined to follow the English rules of succession.

    Interesting article,well written.

Megan Smolenyak's research does not talk about a direct line of descent from George Washington, who had no children. Instead, her research focused on determining the closest auxiliary lines, such as the descendants of George Washington's brother. She found four close lines, and Paul Emery Washington, improbably, descends from two of them.

so why have dedicate a month to a certain race. we're all the same. that's what i'm trying to teach my kids and they get confused with the "black history month" black holidays, etc.?????????

    • Posted By: TheSavioursLove @ 10/08/2008 11:04:28 PM

I'm trying to figure out what black holidays you are referring to that's funny. Explain to your children Black History month is a month where we recognize the accomplishments of Black people in America where they once was not considered to be equal with whites. Also teach them about Hispanic history month and how we celebrate their culture and their contribution to America. No need for a "White History Month". Whites were never considered to be a minority though they actually are. True Americans are the Indians/Native Americans. Share to your children about many different cultures and they won't get confused. Tell them of America's past that's all, simply put.

First let me state that I am white. then let me say that Previously in our written history the there was not any acknowledgment of the accomplishments made by anyone who is not white. I have 2 children. I have no difficulty at all explaining that common sense would tell us that obviously white socially prominent people were not the only ones who did anything notable in the us. Every month has been white history month . But because now we are not cose minded fools we a can now embrace the acomplishments of others as well.

  • Posted By: american23 @ 10/08/2008 11:18:06 PM

This is to the patriotic american, please remember to tell your son about the genocide that had been committed in this country against people of a yellow or brown skin tone. You may even want to discuss lynchings and other autrocities that have been committed against your very own citizens, just a couple decades ago. Some of us need to wake up and realize that this is not ab out being conservative or liberal, brown, white, or olive, it is about being american. We are all in this together. No one is superior to anyone, read the declaration of independence or even your constitution.

So I'm confused. George Washington had no issue although his wife did. They were his step-children and wouldn't be eligible to inherit a monarchy. So this article is quite pointless...
