i think they are just reporting what happened...did you watch last night? you think McCain did well? he seemed uncomfortable and out of touch with todays world. the bottom line is you can blame the media for making "their candidate number one" but in all honesty you sound like a sore loser. There is no question Obama was the stonger candidate of the two and whether you want to face reality or not, and point fingers like a true republican does, our world today needs a leader like Obama not a follower like McCain.

Regardless of what the polls or any of our liberal news channels may lead you to believe, this election still has to be decided by the American people, who must vote for the person whom they feel is most qualified to lead this country. If I could get anyone to believe that I was an "expert" on something to do with this election, I could certainly make alot of money on mid and late night tv specials. After all the smoke rises and people have time to clearly reflect on whom they feel is most qualified to lead, I feel that the decision to vote for John McCain will be a clear one.I still feel very strong about issues like gay rights and stem cell research, which have taken a back seat to the economy these days.I know that the economy is dominating the thoughts of all of us these days, but I still can't find favor with the likes of Obama who supports civil unions for gay and lesbian couples and who supports stem cell research which further leads to the destruction of human life. While these issues may not be in the forefront at this time, they are still very important to me.I am a conservative Christian from the state of Tennessee and I definitely feel that we must have a Christian leader in the White House. As a Christian, it is not my job to judge either of these men. I simply have to listen to what they say and make my own decision. But, after hearing Obama's remarks to the concerns I mentioned earlier, I can not see how he could profess to be a Christian. Finally, the biggest factor that I think will decide this election is that out of all my democratic friends whom I have talked with about this election, 80% of them say that they are not voting this year. While they would not think of "crossing over" to vote for a republican, they equally say that the democrats don't have a choice to vote for. These responses come from working class , as well as, retired democrats and have been consistent for months now. Many of them also say that this election will be won by McCain, but that it will not be so much as a vote for John McCain, but rather a vote against Barack Obama. This, combined with the fact that the race card will still be a factor, leads me to believe that McCain will be our next president. While I may not agree with him on every issue, I definitely feel that he will be be our best choice to lead this country forward. It is my hope that all Americans will consider each candidate ,earnestly pray about their decision and vote for whom they feel is most qualified to lead our country.MAY GOD BLESS THIS COUNTRY AND ALL ITS LEADERS AS WE FACE THE FINAL DAYS OF THIS ELECTION PROCESS.

I think we need to give a ???shout out??? to the town hall audience in showing good judgment last night by remaining deafeningly silent when McCain joked about his balding head. After all who wants to be called a trollop. etc.?

ACORN is under investigation in TEN states!! Do you know who was a trainer for ACORN a few years back????? Hmmmmmmm. Do we have a thug running for President? Yes and his name is spelled O B A M A. He must have learned these tactics from his family members that are in politics in Kenya.

Already the media has made their candidate number one. I am so very angry right now with the obvious slurs edge towards McCain no matter how well he does. In Pensacola, Fl where Sarah Palin just was yesterday, they had to move their orignal meeting place for her to the civic center. More people like her then you want to admit. I could not decide who to vote for up until last night. Now, with all the neg news coverage, I am going to vote for the underdog. The real dictators in the US is the news media.

McCain will say anything now and this latest buyback of mortgages to lower the principal is liberal and far left and a new add on without any depth behind it. McCain Palin are all show at this point.

All eyes on Obama since he is up in the polls! This is great for mccain with 3 weeks before the election! All eyes on Obama means that the skeptics will be picking apart obama's policies and his tax plan! All this focus will let the voters see that under an Obama administration. They will be subject to higher taxes albeit his plan says otherwise but with 3 weeks left the skeptics get to look at it real good and also look at independent reports that debunk the Obama tax plan! Mccain may have played this one just right with one debate left he should be able to pull ahead in the polls before November 4 leaving Obama no time to adjust! FYI; ON OCT 9TH 2004 AL GORE HAD A 12 PT LEAD IN ALL POLLS OVER G.W. BUSH! BUT LOST TO HIM.... ADD THE FACTS THAT ACORN OFFICE GOT RAIDED WE JUST MIGHT HAVE A GAME CHANGER AFTER ALL!

    • Posted By: prchic @ 10/08/2008 8:02:51 AM

FYI sir, Gore did not lose to Bush, Bush was given the office..Are the past 8 yrs. not proof enough Bush is a real loser

      • Posted By: AbbeytheLibrarian @ 10/08/2008 9:35:23 AM

Bush was also given the presidency in 2004 because Republican politicians within the state of Ohio forged something like 370,000 votes in favour of him. Look it up.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year-old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.'

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was. The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle.' The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain.

'You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put her up there to begin with.'

I almost feel sorry for McCalin. But I don't. His "gamble" of picking Palin did NOT pay off. He gambled, he lost. Better luck next time. Oh wait, you'll be dead in 2012.

McCAIN WAS BEING A SMART ASS BY PICKING PALIN. HE KNEW THAT HILIARY HAD ALOT OF THE WOMEN'S VOTES FOR HER. SO AFTER SHE DISMISSED HERSELF FROM THE RACE, HE JUST SO HAPPEN TO PICK A WOMAN. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT HE THOUGHT HTIS WAS A GREAT IDEA TO HAVE A WOMAN. THAT'S JUST WHAT SHE IS A WOMAN BECAUSE WE ARE ALL LIKE, " WHO THAE HELL IS SHE?" AND THEN ON TOP OF EVERYTHING SHE KNOWS NOTHING. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS, EVERYTIME SHE'S I SEE HER SHE LOOKS LIKE A DEER IN FRONT OF HEADLIGHTS.

    Country first?............
I wish McCain realize how ridicule he looks when he says that. He has had a lot of occasions to show it and he has fallen very short. First one was in Vietnam when he was captured, he gave the enemy troop s logistic info and others in order to save his skin. Many brave soldier have died before talking. There is a code that established what a POW should limit to give and he did not follow that code, others have..... Where is the honor there, what is treason? I know his family was very influential..............

During his 26 years in Congress nothing to much done if you compare the time spent there....Even in his book, he looks the presidency as a prize.... On page 373 of John McCain's 2002 memoir Worth the Fighting For, you'll find the following quote:
"I didn't decide to run for President to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be President because it had become my ambition to be President. I was sixty-two years old when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize."
    Is this Country first?

Last but not least, his VP choice which is the most important decision a candidate make, he showed us he was far from putting Country first but his own political gain with the right wing. Even his stunt going to WA for the bailout negotiations, if it was politics aside for his country, how come is he milking that now and getting credit even when he ridiculed himself and was unable to get a bipartisan consensus, let alone pass the bill. It is all about himself, to gain votes, to get his PRIZE, not Country first..............

I guess I am not sure how our government works, maybe the Amercian people do not. Anyway, this is a very very important election year, not only for the Presidential office, but also for the Senate and House seats. We need to pray and pray that we vote for the best possible candidate. Personally, who can you trust - McCain - - Obama - - probably neither. The Senate and House are the ones attaching the pork to bills instead of passing clean bills. Just thinking

I am proud of my country. These are two remarkable candidates that show the best of America. While I support Obama's vison and plans I admire the "old McCain" that stood for integrity. I hope we get him back in the Senate next year once the ultra right that took over his campaign,, including Palin, are gone. For me it boils down to what these candidates represent. When in these difficult times Cindy wears outfits that cost a third of a million dollars and you have so many cars and homes at a time when homeowners are suffering, quite frankly I agree with the comedian, "lerts go with the guy with one house". He has more at stake in this. The very wealthy always protect their friends here and aboard. We saw it with Bush. We need the Obama-Biden ticket that represents the American dream of starting with little and making something of your self. I predict the entire world will cheer if we elect Obama and since McCain keeps emphasizing we need our allies why not go with the direction that can get them on our side rather than what Bush's approach has done to our moral standing in the world. After those pictures of US soldiers torturing prisoners, we need an abrupt change to give a message to the world that the good guy US "is back"

Did anyone else notice that McCain has some serious anger issues. I dont trust that man and I never will. To put him in the White House would be a horrible mistake for the American people. If you think we are in a mess now it will be worse if he won , and these two debates have shown that. Dont even get me started on Palin. To know she would be one step away from the White House scares me half to death. At least Hillery Clinton knew what she was talking about when she spoke. Barak Obama seams to have the plans , the brains and the compassion for the American people to do the right thing. Its Obama/ Biden all the way.

Would one of the conservatives who post here please explain to me why this is not socialism: " You know that home values of retirees continues to decline and people are no longer able to afford their mortgage payments. As president of the United States, Alan, I would order the secretary of the treasury to immediately buy up the bad home loan mortgages in America and renegotiate at the new value of those homes -- at the diminished value of those homes and let people be able to make those -- be able to make those payments and stay in their homes.

Is it expensive? Yes. But we all know, my friends, until we stabilize home values in America, we???re never going to start turning around and creating jobs and fixing our economy. And we???ve got to give some trust and confidence back to America." --- John McCain, 10/7/08 debate

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 10/08/2008 8:10:45 AM

I'm not a conservative, but the way I understand this idea of the government buying back bad mortgages is absolutely government interference in the markets, but it is not true socialism because the individual homeowners are still the intended eventual owner.

It is a sort of pseudo-socialism, since the point would be to use government assistance for both the homeowner and the bank, but eventually return the homes to the open market, not hold onto the homes forever as assets of the state.

It's also not a bad idea on paper, but once again we are back to the issue of what is fair market value, and perhaps more important, who decides? Inability to answer these questions in a practical matter is a large part of what got us into this mess in the first place.

But if the government can bailout AIG, Fannie/Freddie, etc. and put it on the back of the taxpayers, why can't the government help individual Americans stay in their homes and put a stop to the foreclosure problems?

It won't fix everything wrong with the economy or the housing markets, but it will keep people off the streets.

Of course, there is that law of unintentional consequences...

I dont know if anyone has noticed but McCain has some pent up anger issues. I dont thonk he is the right man for the job . I dont like his way of thinking or his plan for america. I dont care much for his running mate either. Obama /Biden all the way.

  • Posted By: prchic @ 10/08/2008 7:59:47 AM

I think Obama did a far better job than Mccain. He answered the questions Directly and he looked confident and powerful, which is what i want from a president.
Mccains Health Care reform plan Is truly the scariest environment imaginable. God help us if he wins and passes a bill to fund his ridiculous plan. His plan of a $5k tax credit would do nothing to change how health ins companies rape us and take our money.
Funny how Mccain left after the debate and Obama stayed to talk with the people.

    Independant NOW for Obama...

Did anyone else notice what happened when Sen. McCain was talking to the African-American gentleman, Oliver, about the bail-out? He wanted to refer to a generic home owner with a mortgage. So he mentioned Alan, a white gentleman across the room who had asked a previous question. In short, Sen. McCain assumed that the black guy couldn't possibly own his own home, but the white guy probably did.

I find it remarkable that the republican party candidates-McCain and Palin-treat the voters as long lost friends, my friends, guys and gals, etc. when the republican party has done so much damage to us. Give me a candidate with gravitas and dignity, intelligence and vision. Spare me the bromides and vague threats that I saw from McCain last night. Give me serious discussion and plans for consideration please.
