Why should Barack Obama insist that the removing the offshore ban should be part of a comprehensive energy ban? Why should it be a bargaining chip.

Lifting the offshore oil drilling ban is the right and appropriate thing to do and should not have been used as a Democratic leadership fillibuster or extorsion tool to extract concessions on other issues. The current gas lines and closed gas stations with no gas in the Southeast including Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina are just a prelude of what we can expect under Barack Obama and Joe Biden energy policies of limited offshore exploration and no new refineries.

Although these gas lines are an immediate result of the recent hurricane Ike that hit Galveston and the Gulf coast, they are indicative of the tenuous nature of our refinery capacity and existing supplies of petroleum. Our refineries have been stretched to their limits for decades. Do you think, oil companies are going to invest in the future in new refineries in the United States given the tepid Democratic Party leadership support of the oil industry and their insistence on mandates for alternative energy sources. Oil companies would have to be crazy to invest even a nickel in new refineries or even do basic repairs to existing refineries. It is also a shame that the gas lines and empty gas stations are mainly in the Southeast which will become Redstates for McCain/Palin next month. It would be more poetic justice that the blue states of the northeast should suffer from the gas shortages caused by their Democratic leadership. The Northeast has been lockstep in their opposition to offshore oil drilling, nuclear power, clean coal, and even wind energy in the Massachusetts Bay area.

Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin realize that the Democrats under the leadership of Barack Obama want to effectively give away in trust our offshore exclusive economic zone by standing in the way of any current offshore development. Under the 1982 United Nations Law of the Seas Convention the US has an exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles and mineral seabed rights up to 350 nautical miles extending along the Continental shelf. A nautical mile is 6080 feet so our exclusive economic zone extends about 240 miles and mineral seabed rights extend 420 miles. The US has the world's largest offshore exclusive economic zone totaling 4.4 million square miles. In comparison, the total land area of the United States is only 3.4 million square miles. On the East coast alone, if you drive from Key West Florida to Bangor Maine it is 2000 miles. Multiply the 2000 miles by mineral seabed rights extending out 420 miles results in a total of 840,000 square miles of ocean acreage. Because we have the world's largest offshore coastline which is twenty-eight percent greater than our land area, it only makes common sense that we exploit our offshore resources to achieve our energy independence.

Senator John McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin because he intends to follow through and make his Project Lexington for United States energy independence the dominant issue in this campaign.

Governor Sarah Palin is a strong supporter of increased offshore drilling and she knows that Alaska has an offshore coastline greater than the rest of the country combined and is also comes in second among the states in oil production. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and John McCain understand that Obama and the Democrats would never consider government loan guarantees or tax breaks for a sure thing that will produce energy for the American gas tank. In fact Democrats are trying to put together a so-called windfall profits tax which will have the effect of discouraging future investment in the United States oil industry. John McCain also knows that Governor Sarah Palin family situation also illustrates that longterm Democratic leadership hostility and policies toward United States owned energy companies have caused our current energy crisis. Her husband works for British Petroleum but instead should be working for the former American owned Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company developed and explored the Alaska North Slope and formerly owned eighty percent of our proven Alaskan reserves. With its substantial oil reserves Arco Oil Company should have bought British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company during the second Bill Clinton administration. With the right business environment and support from both political parties in the United States, Arco Oil Company might have been more successful and been able to buy out British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company.

Look at Apple Computer and Microsoft. Their success in the computer world have made them bullet proof to corporate takeovers. Longterm Democratic hostility and opposition to offshore drilling and periodic talk of windfall profits taxes contributed to the takeover of Arco Oil Company.

Say what you will, at an Obama rally you will not hear John McCain the person being demonized. Sure, his stands on the issues will be booed, but he will not be subjected to the outrageous and divisive smears like those that McCain and Palin are spewing about Obama and you will never hear his patriotism being questioned. When McCain's name is mentioned in an Obama rally, you will NOT hear a mob crying 'terrorist', and worse, 'kill him!' as has been heard at McCain and Palin rallies.
'For each tree is known by its own fruit.' I respect those honest republicans who simply have a respectful difference of opinion with Obama. But those decent Americans aside, and in contrast to the hope filled positive Obama campaign, we now have a negative hate-mongering 'No Obama.' campaign on the right which draws in religious bigots.like Unholyroller, racists (you know who you are), and rabid McCarthyists left over from the 50's. On Nov.5 we will all still be Americans and will have a new president-elect based on the American institution of majority vote. We can have honest differences of opinion without causing a permanent rift between neighbors if we don't give in to hate.

    Vote for John McCain!!!!!!!!

John McCain is the one who can come up with solutions to our economic problems. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are mathematically challenged. Send them back to school and this time have them study something that is useful.

Joe Biden with his history and political science double major in college and Barack Obama???s major in political science give them absoloutely no economic, scientific, quantitative or analytical background to handle the pressing economic and military problems facing our country.

These two mathematically challenged Democrats are supposed to be able to crunch numbers and understand how to cope with our economic and budget crisis. Two people who probably can???t add four numbers together are suppose help solve our economic crisis.

Do you know that they offer basic accounting continuing education classes to lawyers because most lawyers do not understand simple accounting. We have had enough mathematically challenged lawyers screw up our country.

You at least know that John McCain has the computational and analytic skills to compute fuel loads, cargo weights, wind speeds, and trip distances to keep from running out of gas on missions.

How would you like it, if Joe Biden or Barack Obama would take the controls and fly your Boeing 777 on your next commercial flight here in the US. Most independent and undecided voters would not rest easy knowing that Biden or Obama can rely on what they learned in their civil procedure class to help you land safely and not run out of jet fuel during the trip. Pilots have proven analytical skills.

There is a saying that there are old and bold pilots but no old bold pilots. John McCain has that good judgment and he has the proven analytical skills to be able to tackle our budget problems. Barack Obama and Joe Biden can spend the next four years and take some accounting and economics continuing legal education classes.

After four years of academic coursework, then they might be able to throw their hat in the ring. Given their academic training, a trillion dollars may look the same as a million dollars on a budget spreadsheet.

Vote for John McCain!! He is the one who can come up with solutions to our economic problems.

Vote John McCain!!!! Vote John McCain!!!!

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 10/09/2008 1:40:48 PM

You truly believe John McCain can come up with solutions? If so, why did he not talk about all of his solutions at the debate and town hall meeting? Perhaps he forgot or in reality he has no solutions to anything, not the economy, not health care, not Iraq, not for anything. This is why his poll numbers have tanked, and he is on a losing streak. Do you understand any of this?

Bill Ayers and a Barack Obama connection.

Chicago has a long tradition for bomb makers beginning with the Haymarket affair bomb that killed 7 police officers in 1886. The bomb was thrown during a May Day rally for striking workers. There is a statue in Haymarket Square marking the place of the bombings.

A Chicago native the Unabomber is now serving a life sentence at SuperMax Federal Penitentiary in Florence Colorado for killing three and injuring more than a dozen people with mail bombs. The Unabomber Ted Kaczynski grew up in the Chicago area, graduated from Harvard University before getting his PhD in mathematics from the University of Michigan, and then taught at U.C. at Berkley.

The Unabomber received his moniker by targeting universities and airlines. Ted Kaczynski targeted professors at Northwestern University in Chicago and a United Airlines President with his bomb packages.

As a radical left wing environmentalist, Kacyznski later used his mail bombs to murder a timber industry lobbyist and an ad executive that handled an account for Exxon.

William Ayers the founder of the Weathermen Underground who were notorious bomb makers is two years younger than Ted Kaczynski the Unabomber. Both Chicago natives both have deep Chicago connections and both received degrees from the University of Michigan about the same time. Bill Ayers went on to get his Masters in teaching at Columbia in 1987.

I see more obama ads targeting john mccain, so i'm not sure where this reporter got his information. Sad when the news becomes entertainment and non-objective, driven by emotion and ad dollars.

I despise both parties, but democrats will only harm things far worse. A ninth grad education in economics will tell you that. Have you been to Detroit? America will become Detroit if Obama is elected. I guess, pick any inner city, to see what is instore. Detroit, should be bulldozed and covered with sand, like the dump it is. Is that what you want for America?

You place too much emphasis on the president too. Last i checked, congress is the start of most things. Either way, no president is going to have an effect in my outstanding prosperous happy life. People, generally citizens who never put in a real effort in school, life, etc. are the parasites relying on the govt. Is that how you want to be, a relying on the govt leach? How does one make that decision.

Hang your ladder in the right place. Better jobs all over. My favs.. CareerSitesCompany.com, Backpage, Oodle, and others.

Please, don't let the US become Detroit or other inner city nightmares.

I read that Sen. McCain was Chairman of Commerce when President Clinton was in office; he is the president famed for balancing the budget. I think Sen. McCain has the experience; Sen. Biden voted for on the same deregulation issue, so did Sen. Kerry and Sen. Edwards, and Sen. Obama continues to make that an issue, after selecting Sen. Biden as his running mate. As for age, Sen. Biben will be as old as Sen. McCain in four years. Beyond a contending African American candidate, to me, the Democrat's camp does not add up.

Obama's followers are doing what they do best... creating voters where there aren't any. Take a look into the front page of MSNBC... ten states are looking into a scandal of voter registration. This is the exact kind of tactics that ACORN and Ayers use in order to get what they want. Obama is the voice they are using in order to gain the power that they want.

Obama can't even prove that he was born in the United States. There is a lawsuit going now to force him to prove it by providing his birth certificate... like John McCain had to do. But for some reason it doesn't seem that Obama is being held to the same measure that McCain is. Wasn't he a constitution lawyer? Shouldn't he know that being born outside of the United States makes it illegal for him to be President of the United States.

Why aren't these questions being asked by the media? Why isn't the media putting Obama under any sort of scrutiny? Seems that they are doing everything that they possibly can to get this man elected. Just look at this Romano kids articles. He has never once done any research into Obama... but he talks about him as if he is the next coming of the Messiah.

Why is the American public voting for a Senator who doesn't even vote on bills. He just gives a "present" vote. How can you support someone who doesn't stand for anything?

McCain changed. I remember that I wanted him as the nominee in 2000, but when I saw him speak at OSU in 2006, he just sounded like another Bush lackey. Now he's just afraid of dying without one-upping his papa and grandpapa; die with regret, you old fool.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 10/09/2008 1:01:22 PM

I used to say the same thing, sieg, but I was wrong. McCain didn't changed after 2000, he's always been the same, it's just that since 2000 it has become more obvious. I remember how he opposed South Carolina's use of the confederate flag and then flip-flopped on the issue at the last minute when Bush was gaining. From then on, all he has done is go back on his word on everything from taxes, deficits and even torture. At the beginning of this race he said he'd fight fair and look at what he is doing now! If he is losing, then all bets are off, so where exactly is his integrity? How is he any different than Bush? Even Karl Rove (KARL ROVE!) has said his attacks go too far.

I have all the respect in the world for his service, that cannot be taken away from him. However, even war heroes can sell their souls and they often do (like Duke Cunningham) and as a politician he's precisely what he says he is not; he says he is a maverick but at the end of the day he'd play dirtier than the worst of them, as in fact he has. At the end of the day it's not Country First - it's McCain First.

People do NOT know the real John McCain, but they are beginning to.

This is NOT the McCain of 2000. This is a totally different McCain who is pandering to his base and whoever he has to for votes.

I am a resident from Arizona. This man has done nothing I can recall as helpful to anyone here including veterans. McCain is NOT SO PRO VETERAN as people assume. He has hid this very well. Check the record of his votes. The latest was the bill sponsored by Senator Webb and others for educational benefits for returning veterans. He voted AGAINST IT. People ASSUME because he was a POW he is for veterans. The record proves different. And now he is LYING AND DISTORTING ON JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING TO ATTACK OBAMA.

McCain used to be an honorable man. But now, in his current desperation, he is willing to lie, cheat, steal or promise anything just to gain the White House. He is willing to sell out the American People, the country and his own soul just for the power he is unable to aptly wield.

McCain WAS A POW and that deserves respect but IT DOES NOT MAKE HIM AND EXPERT. He held no field commands. He was a glamour boy that flew airplanes. DO NOT ASSUME that makes him an expert on the strategy of war. Field commands do that.

Do NOT assume just because he has been in the Senate forever that makes him so knowledgeable. Ask why he could NOT achieve more than he has before the age of 72 with a POW background. Its because, with a class standing of 894 out of 899, he just does not have what it takes..

Listen to him carefully. Any rational, open minded, unbiased person would have to agree he is really lacking in so many ways.

It is unfortunate that John McCain, a man who deserves a nation's respect as a POW is now a man who resorts almost routinely to outright lies and distortions. A man without vision and is oriented only toward violence in solving our future problems.

JOHN MCCAIN IS MORE WAR WAITING TO HAPPEN.

Comment: Larry Sinclair accuses Barack Obama of homosexual acts and drug use in video posted on YouTube

WASHINGTON ??? The electrifying presidential campaign of Barack Obama faces a new challenge ??? a Minnesota man who claims he took cocaine in 1999 with the then-Illinois legislator and participated in homosexual acts with him.

When his story was ignored by the news media, Larry Sinclair made his case last month in a YouTube video, which has now been viewed more than a quarter-million times. And when it was still ignored by the media, Sinclair filed a suit in Minnesota District Court, alleging threats and intimidation by Obama's staff.

Sinclair, who says he is willing to submit to a polygraph test to validate his claims, will now get his chance ??? thanks to a website offering $10,000 for the right to record it and $100,000 to Sinclair if he passes.

"My motivation for making this public is my desire for a presidential candidate to be honest," Sinclair told WND by telephone. "I didn't want the sex thing to come out. But I think it is important for the candidate to be honest about his drug use as late as 1999."

    (Story continues below)

Sinclair, who lives in Duluth and describes himself as "gay," claims he "personally engaged in sexual activity and personally used illegal drugs in November 1999" with the man who is now the leading Democratic presidential candidate. He claims the activity took place in the back of Sinclair's limousine and occurred again, later, in his hotel. Sinclair also says he personally no longer uses drugs.

In his lawsuit, filed last week, he charges his civil rights have been violated by Obama and the Democratic Party. Named as defendants in the case are the presidential candidate, David Axelrod of AKP Message and Media in Chicago and the Democratic National Committee.

Sinclair charges Obama smoked crack cocaine in the limo while Sinclair snorted powdered cocaine provided by the legislator. He says the two met in an upscale Chicago lounge before leaving in Sinclair's limousine where the drug use and sex took place for the first time.

Sinclair says he is a registered Democrat but has never voted for any candidate. He is 46 and claims to be physically disabled.

He says he was not physically impaired in 1999 when the alleged incidents with Obama took place.

Calls placed to the Obama campaign were not returned.

    See Larry Sinclair's allegations:

Yes, well, in 2000 a black lady accused John McCain of being her "baby daddy" too. This is not the Salem witch-trials, much as you wish it was. One persons delusional statements does not a case make. So Larry is in love with Obama...sounds like a personal problem.

Obama will calmy and smoothly weather John McCain's hissy tantrums and Palin's ugly racist hate slurs right into the presidency. I prefer a calm hand and a cool head over an angry hunchbacked bitter little old man and his snarking, snorting ranting, empty headed she-beast.

And, guess what? You're getting it too, like it or not.

There are two choices in this presidential race.

One of these candidates is a radical, attended a church where he was taught radical beliefs, he is friends with an older radical who went as far to as to aid in the bombing of US Government targets. Anyone heard of the Uni-bomber? Same idea. This candidate is also the 3rd highest paid politician on the books for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and he only served 3 out of the 10 years that the study was done on. He has never authored a meaningful piece of legislation, he doesn't have a single solid stance, instead opting to go with whatever crowds opinion that he might be talking to. This candidate also has no intention to work with members of the other party to make America a better place for all of us. He has his own socialist agenda. An agenda that will take money out of the pockets of hard working Americans and give it to the lazy, good for nothing members of our society. This candidates name is Barack Obama.

The second choice of candidates is a war hero. He was held as a POW for almost 6 years. He has been a member of our government for 26 years now. Three years ago he warned congress that the economy would take a serious hit if Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac weren't taken care of. Democrats in congress made sure that his bill didn't go anywhere. This same candidate has also be praised for his ability to work across the aisle with members of the other party to ensure that decisions are made in the best interest of our country as a whole and not just for his party. He has the experience and leadership that will be needed over the next four years while this country and the world deals with the greastest economic crisis its ever seen. In the latest debate he laid out resolving the root of the economic crisis, by using the $700B to buy up $300B worth of bad loans and renegotiate them. This candidate is John McCain.

Who, may I ask, gave you the "keys" to patriotism? How DARE you question someone's patriotism, simply because they don't agree with YOUR stance.

I say, given the country current trajectory, that it would be more patriotic to realize a change of course is needed, as opposed to doing the same thing, which has resulted in the slow ruining of America.

But, unlike you, I will not be so bold as to question YOUR patriotism. I'm SURE you love this country. Your passionate stance is evidence enough. I DO STRONGLY beleive that you are WRONG, unfair, and sniping.

Oh yeah, Uncle Sam wants the keys you borrowed back!

          • Posted By: blackcourt @ 10/08/2008 11:49:45 AM

Calling for socialism and radicalism is about as unpatriotic as you can get. It goes against every single thing this country stands for. Try reading the constitution sometime and you might realize just how unpatriotic Obama and his followers are. Life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness... not just waiting for a handout like these socialist want to give everyone.

I find it hilarious, especially at this time, when CONservatives rail on and on about socialism, after the standard bearer of the conservative party, GWB, just SOCIALIZED 800,000,000,000.00 worth of debt. Way to go freemarketers!

Actually if you will check the vote count... it was the Democrats who just passed that bill. The President signed it like many, many other conservatives in the hopes that it will do something to help bolster the economy.

Who, may I ask, brought offered this solution, holding a prime time national telivision address to the nation, stating "We must act on this legislation quickly"

Answer: GWB. He introduced the legislation, cheerleaded it, and worked the congress.

The dems played ball, I'll give you that. But this was, again, championed by the Bush administration, and created by his appointees.

In an effort to fix a problem that McCain and other Republicans brought to congress three years ago. Democrats at that time said that there was nothing wrong with Fannie and Freddie and that Republicans expressing concern about how they are giving out loans would do nothing but scare people out of pursuing home ownership.

                    • Posted By: tmitch10 @ 10/08/2008 1:10:59 PM

While you seem very good at pointing fingers, you are missing the point.

#1 while I beleive you are correct in the fact that a few GOPers did indicate a problem with the "Macs", you fail to mention that Obama has CONSISTENTLY spoken out about the increasing troubles of the sub-prime markets. He brought this up at every opportunity over the last 2 years. during debates, stump-speeches, rallies, interviews, his campaign site, and to anyone else that would listen. So the "who raised their hands first" game is a wash to me.

#2) No matter how you spin it, GWB and his republican administration, called for, championed, and developed this SOCIALIZATION of 800,000,000,000.00 of debt. Yet you still rail on and on about socialism.

#3) As you continue to try to paint Obama as a socialist, for daring to say "the trickle -down econ is not working, we need to make it more fair for everyone", did you catch McCain last night speaking of buying up all the bad mortgages (read:SOCIALIZING the bad mortgages?) If so, how do you reconcile this with your "Obama's a flaming socialist" rhetoric? What about John?

                      • Posted By: blackcourt @ 10/08/2008 3:28:12 PM

You can keep trying to spin this all you want to. There is one party out for less government involvement. There is another party out there for more government involvement. You know who they are. Attempting to push this bail out bill onto the Republicans when more of them voted against it than they did for it is just plain silly. But then I've come to expect that out of the Democrats and their supporters. They like to do alot of finger pointing rather than solving. So please... keep trying to sell everyone on the Socialist idea of yours. Its amusing if nothing else to see how confused you are.

No response to McCain's SOCIALIZATION of bad mortgages huh?
No response to Bush's bailout huh?

and by your measure, the Dems took action, while the GOPers sat on thier hands. You can not have it both ways.

By the way, do you have any of your own positions? Any reasons your voting FOR McCain. Or are you just AGAINST Obama?

The bailout bill was a Bush government initiative.

Do you think he's the idiot that yelled terrorist in Palin crowd? Were there real pitchforks there?

I suppose the voters who have Obama ahead in the polls and electoral college all feel the way you do. You're nuts.

"In the latest debate he laid out resolving the root of the economic crisis, by using the $700B to buy up $300B worth of bad loans and renegotiate them. This candidate is John McCain."

Let me get this straight - we are gonna spend $700B to buy $300B of bad debt.
UMMMM...which math classes did Johnny boy take? Cause I think most repubs must have been attending them too - oh I see now - it was called the Lehman Brother's math class - at the back of van down by the river!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not the sharpest tool in the shed are you? Even my cousin in 3rd grade could figure out what this meant. I won't even bother explaining, might go over your head.

        • Posted By: b dune @ 10/09/2008 8:44:18 AM

it's good your 3rd grade cousin could figure it out because "no one in the repub party can"! Once again - I will remind you he does not plan to take the 300 Billion out of the 750 Billion - he wants another 300 BIllion! And by the way - if he "has/had" this great idea why didn't he bring it up when he "was in Washington putting the whole plan together"? As for his working across the aisle - maybe he had too - doesn't seem he has been able to persuade the repubs to do much over the years!

Please, humor me..explain it to me..I missed that part.

POW does not equal Leader. 26 years in Government we get McCain-Feingold and the Keating 5, I'd say it was a wash. Warns Congress yet does nothing else, if he believed it so strongly and was a leader as you say, he come he did nothing else except warn Congress? Palling around with Joe Lieberman isn't exactly "working across the aisle", is it?

        • Posted By: blackcourt @ 10/08/2008 3:10:15 PM

The Keating 5 was made up on McCain and 4 democrats... are you sure you really want to go there with this? When an investigation looked into the group they found that the only thing McCain was guilty of was attending meetings. Armstrong, a democrat, was also found guilty of this. The other three... ALL DEMOCRATS... were the ones who were getting away with all the underhanded activity.

          • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 10/08/2008 9:58:20 PM

Are any of the three running for president?

        • Posted By: blackcourt @ 10/08/2008 3:22:44 PM

McCain did try to do something about it... perhaps you should look into before making false assumptions. Here ya go... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2083758/posts

In the mean time Obama has received $144,000 from Fannie and Freddie. The third most over the last ten years and he's only been in office for three of those.

          • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 10/08/2008 9:57:42 PM

Meanwhile, McCain's chief financial campaign advisor, Davis received $15,000 a month from Fannie right up to the month of August 2008.

        • Posted By: edjones65 @ 10/08/2008 2:55:05 PM

McCain has been at it for over 26 years and all you can come up with are some dead issues. Keating 5, C'mon what do you want do , reopen the case and try to prosecute McCain again, just to find out that the Dems behind it are still guilty and he is not. The whole thing about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are still news today and it is only a matter of time before someone ends up taking the hit on that one. Surprise I doubt if either McCain or Obama's name will come up at anytime. All this drama is getting old, I would almost rather watch one life to live, at least the drama will seem real.

Speaking of churches -- Sarah Palin attended a church where they spoke in tongues and thought they could pray for legislation to be enacted (it's on FILM), and then attended a church where a preacher prayer over her to protect her from witchcraft! AND her husband is an active member of a group that wants to seceed from the U.S. because they hate America.

SO -- be careful of throwing stones, blackcourt. Or else answer why you're comfortable with Palin's church choices.

      • Posted By: blackcourt @ 10/08/2008 12:15:00 PM

There are a number of churches in our country that believe people speak in tongues. There are numerous churches in our country that pray for things to make this world better. There are numerous churches in this country that pray for its congregation to be protected from the works of the devil, including witchcraft.

There aren't that many churches in this country that preach about how the United States is the root of all evil and believe that "killing whitey" is the answer to the worlds problems. Obama's church does.

So lets not get confused by the facts here.

        • Posted By: Iconoblaster @ 10/08/2008 5:55:27 PM

There may be any number of churches that (like Palin's) teach that the End of the World would be a "Good Thing". Fine. Let them pray to their God for the destruction of the world all they want. If their God doesn't mind, neither do I. But it would be lunacy for the REST of us to give ANY of their believers control of a nuclear arsenal that could make it happen.
